I still have my PS3 Slim from 2010 and God of War 3 was the #1 game i had to play! Love it! It's crazy that the PS3 & 360 are modern retro game systems! The PS3 games still look amazing to this day in 2023! 😀

Still play on my PS3 even to this day. I bought the 500GB Super Slim model when PS4 first launched and since then I haven't regreted that decision. PS3 is a great console for single player games and my PS3 collection is very massive. Especially on physical media.

I still use my ps3 despite having a ps4 and 5, I actually use my ps3 mode than any other console. The servers for the cod games are still active and a lot of people still play it, and sony just gave us firmware 4.90
Bought a ps3 slim back in 2011. Still have it with my other ps3 slim and ps3 super slim. I loved the ps3 library of games. especially all the multi pack games like jak and dextar collction, killzone collection, sly cooper etc. Also just the main console exclusives. God of war, uncharted, the last of us.
The 1 issue with the PS1 & 2 is the graphics, so that's the only reason why some people find it going back to. PS3 doesn't have that problem, I still maintain that resolution quality didn't need to exceed 1080p, obviously yeah if you can do it but 1080p was all we needed. In 10 years, this will be the GOAT console because of how well it held up plus the quality of games
If you want to reduce the fan noise it generates as well as prevent it from dying a heat death before it has to, you might want to consider opening it up and replacing your thermal pastes on the heat syncs.
yeah this is the one console that is best bought from your local game store. The less scratches the better usually. If you can check the disc drive see how well the motor is. I want a slim one but these just look so damn cool
My favourite PlayStation ever personally is the PS3, I had this same version and I hammered it for about 8 years, unfortunately It did die and my last couple of years with PS3 was with a slim model which was still fine of course before I eventually fully transferred to the PS4. The PS3 is still my favourite PlayStation to this day, even though I do finally have a PS5 now.
Yeah I basically have the same history. Had the PS3 for many years back in the days, overheated eventually and got replaced by a PS4. I still have the PS4 and my brother got a PS5. Nowadays I use a PC for the most part so a PS4 is still fine for me :)
As I've gotten older. I kinda look for more simplicity. I still wish Sony would update the ps5 to run ps3 games with improved resolution. Would save having to have a ps3 too
PS3 games were made with different architecture so it wouldn't be possible to run PS3 games natively on the PS5. PS4 and PS5 use the same architecture which is why the PS5 is backwards compatible. Your best bet is emulation or buying a used PS3 to play PS3 games natively. I bought a 80GB CECHC03 backwards compatible PS3 last year to use alongside my PS3, giving me games playable from the PS1 through to the PS5. Edit: It's also why you can only stream PS3 games from real PS3s with Sony via PS+.
@Ishmael Simpson yes, but ps1 and ps2 were also built on different architecture and were able to be emulated. Ps3 is perfectly capable of emulating ps3 but it would require quite a bit of resources. They're going to have to do it inevitably at some point rather than relying on old ps3s for emulation
@@DalazG True, however the CELL processor with the RSX chip was insanely difficult to develop for, and even more so to emulate. The PS1 and PS2 did have different architecture but it was fairly simple. Such is not the case with the PS3 unfortunately. This is why Sony won't bother despite many people wanting it, and the fact that many people still want to play PS3 games. Myself included.
@Ishmael Simpson i think Sony will try but it'll be as low effort as possible to keep resource use low. I don't imagine them attempting full blown emulation until the ps3 server blades are starting to cost more to replace. The RPCS3 team themselves said that emulation of PS3 on PS5 would definitely be possible, and much easier than it was for them. The biggest hurdle is financial justification
I've just set up my old PS3. I haven't used it since I got my PS4 back in the day. When I played it it was on a 22" TV with no HD in those days. Now I have it hooked up to my big TV and my Pioneer Home Theatre system. I'm truly amazed at the picture and sound quality. The sound seems to have more volume than the PS4. You have so many more option for both sound and graphics than you do on the PS4. I played the Blu-ray "Alien: Prometheus". I chose DTS and the bass was so great that The windows were rattling. My only regret is that my PS3 does not have 'backwards compatibility'.

Never owned PS3 but over the last few years I bought only mint condition 2nd hand PS3 games from charity shops, I also have a factory sealed Tomb Raider Anniversary 👍Now I have about 40 games to explore. My PS3 plays PS1 and PS2 games, although my PS3 version is software emulated and not hardware inside.😒 Only played a few games so far (PS2 WRC games) but love it. I am amazed how great this machine is and still stands out today, Sony, well done.
Gran Turismo 5 is absolutely my most favorite racing game ever. I never really grew up with the Playstation 3. I wanted one before, but got a 360 instead when I was 12. In 2020 I found a ps3 for 20 bucks. Later on in the same thrift shop I stumbled upon Gran Turismo and played it a year later. Great video
I just dusted off my old ps3 from 2008. I hadn't touched it since about 2013. After cleaning the inside and reapplying thermal paste it's running perfect. So many awesome games were never ported to other consoles or PC. I'm having a lot of run revisiting this era of gaming.

I have a ps3 slim which i got in 2018 and i love it very much. I buy ps3 games whenever i can find them in good condition. I also have a ps4 pro which i got last year and i play on both systems.
PS3 Will always be the best system! I own my super slim and still works till this day. I had a slim but I gave it to my bestfeiend who didn’t own a ps3. I’m glad to a own a big collection of the games I enjoy and love I will forever play on ps3. I’m glad this system still alive 2023.
just to let everyone know if you don’t know. you can use a ps5 and ps4 controller on the ps3. which makes gaming on the ps3 a whole lot better. keep in mind that not all games on ps3 support the controllers
Welcome. Lots of us still play the PS3. I usually use it for Movian media player now but there are still PSN games that I love going back to. I've custom firmwared my system so I can play PS2 games and have had pretty good success. Just enjoy the games and have a great time. 👍

Had about 3 Fat PS3s and all ended up having YLOD after a while. I bought the ugly Super Slim which seems to be stable. GT5 signature edition looks sick! Have fun bro, great video.
I got my PS3 Slim for free because I found it at my uncle’s house and he didn’t even know he had it. I put CFW on it and it fits well with my Wii and WiiU that I have setup with my TV.

My family couldn’t really afford getting me a PS3 in its heyday when I was in high school, so I was the guy with a Wii while all my friends were playing crazy next gen games. It’s cool being able to play a lot of modern classics for the first time, and it’s probably the cheapest console you can collect for. There are some expensive rare ones, but a lot of the more highly sought out games like the MGS Legacy Collection are still only like 50-80 bucks. After spending thousands of dollars collecting for the Saturn and Sega-CD, this is a nice change of pace.
Now it's really a good time to start collecting PS3 games due to the price. Oh and I also usually find games for the Xbox 360 for super cheap, leading to an amazing opportunity to relive some classics :) I've made 2 other videos of these consoles, and in the one where I'm talking about the 360 I show that I bought Forza Motorsport 3 for only $0.30! Crazy cheap!
I still have mine all connected, right next to my PS5. Still have games I play on it, Granted most of them are on PS+ for streaming, but their streaming is laggy, no where near as fun as just playing them on an actual PS3. BTW mine is a 40 GB version too, and both my controllers are Sixaxis. I upgraded the hard disk to 750 GB awhile back, and currently have every game I bought digitally installed, and have a shelf of physical discs I bought over the years, including a game I bought just a few months ago.
Was lucky and got my backwards compatible ps3 for £100. Then spent an additional £100 for cleaning, delidding, thermal paste, scratch removal, cosmetic repairs and nec token capcitors (I fell into that hold i know) 1 year later is still running strong.

I never got the phat one, but the slim and the super slim (still sealed in case I need it). I just setup my ps3 that had been sitting in a closet for 10 years, booted right up. Can’t find the game disks, but I downloaded Crazy Taxi from the PlayStation store and have been playing the heck out of it.
It’s most likely noisey because it needs the thermal paste redone. The PS3 and PS4 both suffer from having bad thermal paste and that’s what causes most of the fan issues. It should be fine
That is a very good deal for PS 3 for just $60 bucks and it got 2 controllers & 11 free games for 2 persons to play together. For PS 4 now the price for second hand is at least 120 bucks. I still got my PS 2 fat console working till today and many years before i swap my games with another friend but the resolution cannot be compare with a PS 3 & it can play blu ray.
Nice ps3 had the best games overall so many good titles dead space god of war 3 castlevania lords of shadow prince of persia forgotten sanda. Killzone was so dope. Battlefield 3, mafia 3 skyrim it goes one ps3 was the best console i had mine for 11 years before the disc laser died but it still worked i got a used one as well. And heavy rain uncharted red dead. This console is untamed lol! And dantes inferno and dragons dogma both were incredible
Currently playing Assassins creed ezio games for the first time on a ps3 super slim 500gb. Some say it’s the worst model but for me it’s great because the retro modern look is very appealing and it has zero overheating issues.

Welcome to 2006. It was awesome for the past 17 years, at full price. Glad you love it. No shortage of great games. Grab _Infamous_ and _II_ at a local games store/eBay. Also, get _blur,_ the _GT_ of Kart games. I bought a copy of _Infamous_ and _II_ for $5 CIB at a local store, earlier this year - but already have the _Infamous Collection,_ on which I’d somehow slept. If _Infamous: Festival of Blood_ is a worthwhile pickup, if you can still get it, too. You can beat it in a few hours, but it’s still better than PS4’s _First Light._ In fact, with Cole, it’s better than _Second Son,_ although that’s great, too.🍻 PS - I’d throw in a 1TB or 2TB drive and buy whatever games can fill it-which are pro’lly on sale, now-before they close the store, this month, if they haven’t, yet...
Yup, the RSX sure was a complex GPU potentially leading to hardware problems. I tried a 3 hour long session on Gran Turismo 5 and it handled it like a champ :)
Best and most magical console ever. Shame you did not get one of the early BC versions (both HW or SW) as those still are unmatched in terms of features and prestige
I'd rather buy a separate PS2 for my collection and they're cheap as well. Also, the backwards compatible version is known for having reliability issues.
Yeah, I really didn’t bother of getting a backwards compatible PS3 since I simply want to play PS3 games. Will probably get a PS2 in the near future due to nostalgia!
It's noisy as heck because the thermal paste inside is rock hard and isn't pulling heat away from the processor very well - so it's running at a top fan speed. Lots of vids on youtube show you how to put new paste on.
the reason why i bought a PS3 in 2023: for someone, who is working during the week and also has a private reallife, its not the case, that I'am gaming daily. I really don't feel comfortable anymore, to buy PS Plus (for PS4 -.-) it is just annoying and useless for me. So I only buy the Games with Disc and enjoy when I decide to play, what I want to ❤

ps3!! i bought my ps3 off of my older cousin in middle school and had been used since 2008. I had to purchase a slim model to play my old games sadly because the disc reader gave out from 15 years of use.
We also had a PS3 back then and eventually ours got overheated unfortunately. But now getting this console again really let’s me relive all amazing games made for the PS3! Truly a beautiful console :)
Depends on the PS3 model. If it's the 20GB/60GB fat models, then it's PS3 all the way. You can literally play over 10,000 games with it ranging from all PS1, PS2, PS3 and then some PSP games. And it reads all kinds of media discs too from music CDs to movie DVDs/Blurays! But if it's the Slim/Super Slim, then I have to give to the 360. Early enhanced ports of PS2 games like NFS Most Wanted, Burnout Revenge and Just Cause, higher resolution games with better framerate, better Wifi speeds and decent OG Xbox backwards compatibility.
Nice! I've had mine up and running since I bought it in 2007. Technically it's my second one, since the first one got the YLOD (maybe it was all those hundreds and hundreds of hours playing Oblivion that killed it), but a PS3 has always been ready and waiting next to my tv for the last 16 years. Really scary to think it's been THAT long... 😄 Still have quite a few unplayed PS3 games on the shelf, just as with X360, but hopefully I'll get to them... eventually. The funny thing is that lately I've felt a rising interest in games for these old machines, but I'm trying not to go on a buying spree, since I already have so many games left to play. By the way, was GT5 already installed on your machine? From what I understand (don't own it myself) the install process is absolutely INSANE, at least when including all the updates. Ha're bra!

And not to get you to spend more money or anything but as of today it’s almost never been a better time to acquire some precious PS3 & Xbox 360 games due they being crazy cheap. Especially when we have Tradera (assuming you’re in Sweden :) Personally I have quite a bit of studying and videos I have to catch up on, but when i ain’t feeling super busy I’d actually rather hop on some PS3 or Xbox 360 games rather than all of the modern games, not only for the nostalgia but I find a lot of the older games very enjoyable! Even though the Wii was the best selling console of the 7th gen, the PS3 was easily the best of the three. It was the first console to have HD capabilities through an HDMI port and the use of Blu Ray's for its games. It had the best line up of exclusive games, including Uncharted, Resistance, The Last of Us, Demon's Souls, and Infamous to name a few. Casual gamers also got use out of the PS3 as a blu ray film player. Truely, this console was a blueprint for what would made the PS4 and PS5 great consoles
Might want to crack the thing open, clean it for dust, apply some thermal paste to the CPU (as it's likely dried and cracked now) and replace the CMOS battery. Oh, and jamming an SSD in there will do wonders for it. Older models are notorious for power consumption and the thermals are nuts.

Had my ps3 slim 200gb for 6 years now. Never opened it and it still runs just fine. I played cod ghost extinction on it definitely good experience.

I got gran turismo from a pawn shop for ps3 but it was a demo didn’t even say on it
I basically kept my PS3 for Gran Turismo 6, Killzone 2-3, it will always be my most favourite console

I just dusted off my old ps3 from 2008. I hadn't touched it since about 2013. After cleaning the inside and reapplying thermal paste it's running perfect. So many awesome games were never ported to other consoles or PC. I'm having a lot of run revisiting this era of gaming.
I just bought a 320 gb slim because my old slim 120 gb crapped out on me a little pricey for 150 but cant complain wish i found a steal like you! Ps3 is the best
i have over 300 physical ps3 games and will always collect , i have the 400 gigs ps3 the matt black , just love playing my games on it , ps3 is my fav play station is the series

I have a ps3 slim which i got in 2018 and i love it very much. I buy ps3 games whenever i can find them in good condition. I also have a ps4 pro which i got last year and i play on both systems.
PS3 Will always be the best system! I own my super slim and still works till this day. I had a slim but I gave it to my bestfeiend who didn’t own a ps3. I’m glad to a own a big collection of the games I enjoy and love I will forever play on ps3. I’m glad this system still alive 2023.
just to let everyone know if you don’t know. you can use a ps5 and ps4 controller on the ps3. which makes gaming on the ps3 a whole lot better. keep in mind that not all games on ps3 support the controllers

Welcome. Lots of us still play the PS3. I usually use it for Movian media player now but there are still PSN games that I love going back to. I've custom firmwared my system so I can play PS2 games and have had pretty good success. Just enjoy the games and have a great time. 👍

Had about 3 Fat PS3s and all ended up having YLOD after a while. I bought the ugly Super Slim which seems to be stable. GT5 signature edition looks sick! Have fun bro, great video.

I got my PS3 Slim for free because I found it at my uncle’s house and he didn’t even know he had it. I put CFW on it and it fits well with my Wii and WiiU that I have setup with my TV.
He held some secret treasure :)
@@Odeboo yeah. I didn’t take the games but it came with two dual-shock 3 controllers. I think he may have some other stuff somewhere but I’ve gotta ask him when I see him again.
My family couldn’t really afford getting me a PS3 in its heyday when I was in high school, so I was the guy with a Wii while all my friends were playing crazy next gen games.
It’s cool being able to play a lot of modern classics for the first time, and it’s probably the cheapest console you can collect for. There are some expensive rare ones, but a lot of the more highly sought out games like the MGS Legacy Collection are still only like 50-80 bucks. After spending thousands of dollars collecting for the Saturn and Sega-CD, this is a nice change of pace.
Now it's really a good time to start collecting PS3 games due to the price. Oh and I also usually find games for the Xbox 360 for super cheap, leading to an amazing opportunity to relive some classics :)
I've made 2 other videos of these consoles, and in the one where I'm talking about the 360 I show that I bought Forza Motorsport 3 for only $0.30! Crazy cheap!

I still have mine all connected, right next to my PS5. Still have games I play on it, Granted most of them are on PS+ for streaming, but their streaming is laggy, no where near as fun as just playing them on an actual PS3. BTW mine is a 40 GB version too, and both my controllers are Sixaxis. I upgraded the hard disk to 750 GB awhile back, and currently have every game I bought digitally installed, and have a shelf of physical discs I bought over the years, including a game I bought just a few months ago.

Bought my PS3 Slim in 2011! Still have it and it still works great! Upgraded the hard drive to 1TB!
Was lucky and got my backwards compatible ps3 for £100. Then spent an additional £100 for cleaning, delidding, thermal paste, scratch removal, cosmetic repairs and nec token capcitors (I fell into that hold i know) 1 year later is still running strong.
At least your console probably is in pristine condition, and still running strong after 1 year sounds great :)

I just setup my ps3 that had been sitting in a closet for 10 years, booted right up. Can’t find the game disks, but I downloaded Crazy Taxi from the PlayStation store and have been playing the heck out of it.

It’s most likely noisey because it needs the thermal paste redone. The PS3 and PS4 both suffer from having bad thermal paste and that’s what causes most of the fan issues.

That is a very good deal for PS 3 for just $60 bucks and it got 2 controllers & 11 free games for 2 persons to play together. For PS 4 now the price for second hand is at least 120 bucks. I still got my PS 2 fat console working till today and many years before i swap my games with another friend but the resolution cannot be compare with a PS 3 & it can play blu ray.

Nice ps3 had the best games overall so many good titles dead space god of war 3 castlevania lords of shadow prince of persia forgotten sanda. Killzone was so dope. Battlefield 3, mafia 3 skyrim it goes one ps3 was the best console i had mine for 11 years before the disc laser died but it still worked i got a used one as well. And heavy rain uncharted red dead. This console is untamed lol! And dantes inferno and dragons dogma both were incredible

Currently playing Assassins creed ezio games for the first time on a ps3 super slim 500gb. Some say it’s the worst model but for me it’s great because the retro modern look is very appealing and it has zero overheating issues.

Welcome to 2006. It was awesome for the past 17 years, at full price. Glad you love it. No shortage of great games. Grab _Infamous_ and _II_ at a local games store/eBay. Also, get _blur,_ the _GT_ of Kart games.
I bought a copy of _Infamous_ and _II_ for $5 CIB at a local store, earlier this year - but already have the _Infamous Collection,_ on which I’d somehow slept. If _Infamous: Festival of Blood_ is a worthwhile pickup, if you can still get it, too. You can beat it in a few hours, but it’s still better than PS4’s _First Light._ In fact, with Cole, it’s better than _Second Son,_ although that’s great, too.🍻
PS - I’d throw in a 1TB or 2TB drive and buy whatever games can fill it-which are pro’lly on sale, now-before they close the store, this month, if they haven’t, yet...

Yup, the RSX sure was a complex GPU potentially leading to hardware problems. I tried a 3 hour long session on Gran Turismo 5 and it handled it like a champ :)
Best and most magical console ever. Shame you did not get one of the early BC versions (both HW or SW) as those still are unmatched in terms of features and prestige
I'd rather buy a separate PS2 for my collection and they're cheap as well. Also, the backwards compatible version is known for having reliability issues.
The disappointing part is you didn't get the backwards compatible model those are so awesome but oh well enjoy your ps3

It's noisy as heck because the thermal paste inside is rock hard and isn't pulling heat away from the processor very well - so it's running at a top fan speed. Lots of vids on youtube show you how to put new paste on.

the reason why i bought a PS3 in 2023: for someone, who is working during the week and also has a private reallife, its not the case, that I'am gaming daily. I really don't feel comfortable anymore, to buy PS Plus (for PS4 -.-) it is just annoying and useless for me. So I only buy the Games with Disc and enjoy when I decide to play, what I want to ❤

Bro the ps3 still goes hard I've been trying to get a ps2 backwards compatible one for like ever because the library would be so immense. Ps3, ps2 and ps1 games all in one. I have an xbox but modern gaming just doesn't hit like this era did. It's too bad I missed out but I hope I can find one soon.

ps3!! i bought my ps3 off of my older cousin in middle school and had been used since 2008. I had to purchase a slim model to play my old games sadly because the disc reader gave out from 15 years of use.
We also had a PS3 back then and eventually ours got overheated unfortunately. But now getting this console again really let’s me relive all amazing games made for the PS3! Truly a beautiful console :)

Depends on the PS3 model. If it's the 20GB/60GB fat models, then it's PS3 all the way. You can literally play over 10,000 games with it ranging from all PS1, PS2, PS3 and then some PSP games. And it reads all kinds of media discs too from music CDs to movie DVDs/Blurays!
But if it's the Slim/Super Slim, then I have to give to the 360. Early enhanced ports of PS2 games like NFS Most Wanted, Burnout Revenge and Just Cause, higher resolution games with better framerate, better Wifi speeds and decent OG Xbox backwards compatibility.
Nice! I've had mine up and running since I bought it in 2007. Technically it's my second one, since the first one got the YLOD (maybe it was all those hundreds and hundreds of hours playing Oblivion that killed it), but a PS3 has always been ready and waiting next to my tv for the last 16 years. Really scary to think it's been THAT long... 😄
Still have quite a few unplayed PS3 games on the shelf, just as with X360, but hopefully I'll get to them... eventually. The funny thing is that lately I've felt a rising interest in games for these old machines, but I'm trying not to go on a buying spree, since I already have so many games left to play. By the way, was GT5 already installed on your machine? From what I understand (don't own it myself) the install process is absolutely INSANE, at least when including all the updates. Ha're bra!

And not to get you to spend more money or anything but as of today it’s almost never been a better time to acquire some precious PS3 & Xbox 360 games due they being crazy cheap. Especially when we have Tradera (assuming you’re in Sweden :) Personally I have quite a bit of studying and videos I have to catch up on, but when i ain’t feeling super busy I’d actually rather hop on some PS3 or Xbox 360 games rather than all of the modern games, not only for the nostalgia but I find a lot of the older games very enjoyable!

I used to visit Tradera a lot in the past, buying video games, guitars and guitar effects, but I've managed to minimize my spendings in the last couple of years. I just have too much stuff... But you're right, it is definitely a good time to buy games for these machines - especially when you, like me, almost never have any interest in the rare and expensive ones. I'll see how long I can convince myself to stay away.

Even though the Wii was the best selling console of the 7th gen, the PS3 was easily the best of the three. It was the first console to have HD capabilities through an HDMI port and the use of Blu Ray's for its games. It had the best line up of exclusive games, including Uncharted, Resistance, The Last of Us, Demon's Souls, and Infamous to name a few. Casual gamers also got use out of the PS3 as a blu ray film player. Truely, this console was a blueprint for what would made the PS4 and PS5 great consoles

$60 for all of this is quite a steal. Wow.
Might want to crack the thing open, clean it for dust, apply some thermal paste to the CPU (as it's likely dried and cracked now) and replace the CMOS battery. Oh, and jamming an SSD in there will do wonders for it. Older models are notorious for power consumption and the thermals are nuts.
