slash actually had 3 techs they are this guy Doug "Red" Redler - longtime tech with Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes and Adam Day - tech for Neal Schon of Journey
Hadsatriani wow.. nice gear. Pure analog power. I wonder if by 5 years from now- some real good HD digital invention can take over these analog? What do you think?
I'm a Marine and a guitar tech. Ace is a Marine and guitar tech. The difference is this man techs for Slash. By the way, Ace, my recruiter served with you. Semper Fidelis brother!
Love these videos but wish they would cover some of the peripheral stuff like strings, plecs, cables etc. Always interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes. Will be watching this tomorrow in Manchester in front of Mr Slash!
I love how in EVERY one of these rig rundowns they ignore Slash's compressor settings, tone may be in the hands, but a compressor is what captures that before the amp!. The compressor is the secret weapon in Slash's tone, its a complete lie that he only used it on the clean amps in the Use Your Illusions Era, he uses it all the time and never stopped.
Angus Young uses no pedals and some say his tone is pure rock... Gary Rossington if Lynyrd Skynyrd also uses no pedals, his sound is pretty good also...
That's the wonderful thing about playing on the big stages...you CAN turn up a 100 watt Marshall to achieve those amazing tones. Most guitar players will never play on a stage big enough to turn up a 100 watter to make it useful.
To the people who said slash was "lazy" about not operating his own gear. Pedal's are a huge pain in the ass if like most musicians use them for 5 seconds of the song. Instead of thinking "ok in 30 seconds I gotta switch on and switch back" you can just lose yourself in playing. My lead guitarist brought his pedals to sound check and the sound guy was getting pissed off, Had to tell him just to keep it simple. Unless you have a tech, other then WAH I don't bother.
I worked a Pink Foyd show some years back. Got to work with the monitor engineer most of the day because of my audio knowledge wiring the stage and microphones. Gilmore's guitar tech had around 100 pedals all st up on something similar to a train table. lol..lots of the same pedals but just in different loops. Gilmore's [pedal board had about 18 stomo switches on it that were simply labeled with the songs name.
Think I would bring my pedals on the stage.. in case I'd feel like improvising more or change the sound suddenly. That situation makes Slash slave a bit IMO 😎
The prototype les paul he was talking about, unless u havent been paying attention, is the corsa rostra/vermillion. The vermillion is his, in aces words, slide guitar. The very sexy red les paul
Actually I think the prototype he mentions is a new red Les Paul that's supposedly is coming out in 2013 and he's been road testing it. Premier guitar did an article on Slash's 2012 touring gear and they show that guitar along with his other guitars and equipment

Ive been trying to get SRV's tone and have givin up and by givinbg up, Ive grown extremely fond of Slash's tone, especially the lead sound in November Rain era stuff . .... Ive gotten close with a Les Paul w/ Dimarzio super distortion in the neck & a Jcm800 ... His tone & style of playing really lets the notes speak. ........ Its someone talking hyper & fast vs someone talking calmly .
His tech is so cool damn... prolly the second best job in the world after being Slash and the guy just pushes the buttons on the pedals man Slash obvi would have told him when and where... that good relationship allows Slash to be as creatively free as possible.
Strings - Ernie Ball Custom Gauge, don't remember exactly, but certainly not to thin. Check it out, I have seen this info somewhere on the internet. Picks - Dunlop Tortex, "the hardest ones that they make", as Slash himself says. But that's not the point. The point is in his hands and in what the hell is going on under that top hat in his head ))
it is all slash's stuff but he is slash's tech. he's the guy setting up, using, and working on his equipment all day everyday. if you think about it slash is just playing the guitar and the guitars signal is just going through it. his tech is the guy actually using and working on anything. if you ask me i think it probably is more his then slash's at this point. whenever there is a professional rig it is owned and used by two people, the musician and the tech.
Ace specifically said it's one of the older signature guitars, meaning it is a replica. So he knows it's not the original one Slash had; that means that break one the guitar he showed is legit.
speaking of setups what do you think of my setup? Amp: Fender Frontman 212R Guitar: Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar - Arctic White Distortion: MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion
Interesting that he runs the delay in front instead of an FX's loop. I know the 800's didn't have one and I'm not sure on his sig heads having a loop, but it's still interesting...
Cool :D I use two delay boxes, a Boss DD-2 and a Behringer Echo Machine. I never would've guessed that i use a piece of equipment that is more vintage than Slash', he uses a DD-3.
well, i'm from germany and we have a verry big store for guitars n other stuff in frankfurt am main. and they have great connections to gibson usa and some times they order some special guitars, produced up to about 25 or so and one of their own customs is a '58/'59 les paul that has almost the same specs.so be sure to check teh channal of sessionmusictv and search for the ultimate stinger guitar. p.s. sorry for some grammar or spalling failes, if there are some ;)
Slash had a Les Paul that he snapped the neck off in the late 80s doing one of those neck dives on. It's either that original one or it's a replica of that same guitar.
When he first started touring with Myles someone ran on stage and hit Slash from behind during Sweet Child O Mine. The neck on that guitar (a signature copy of his 1988 Les Paul Standard) was broken. He had to swap guitars mid song. That is the guitar with the neck repair they are talking about.

I love how he says Slash is the beginning of the signal chain. It's not about having expensive gear, it's all in the fingers.
Pretty much every guitar tech says that.
@@ciri151 every tech says that just before they cover Slash's compressor & EQ settings up lol
ya look like a cross between vin diesel and tom morello
So basically just a bald guy...
Lol
JimmY Q i mean like duh yeah i mean
look at him
I thought the same 😂 Tom Morello tech for Slash
Max Juarez 😂
I love how the sign says "If your fucking hand goes in this fucking vault I will smash every fucking bone in your fucking body" -Slash (0:18)
except that it says “love Ace”
Lucky bastard! He gets to be the guitar tech for Slash!
slash actually had 3 techs
they are this guy
Doug "Red" Redler - longtime tech with Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes

Sweet walk through!!
Slash is fucking awesome!
+Hadsatriani Yes... yes he is. Thanks for watching
Hadsatriani wow.. nice gear. Pure analog power. I wonder if by 5 years from now- some real good HD digital invention can take over these analog? What do you think?
Yes, yes he is

these guitars are Gibson built copies of a Gibson copy hahaha!!

Misiek ya
if your fucking hand goes in this fucking vault, i will smash every fucking bone in your fucking body
Misiek yeah in “Slash real to reel “ is another one
I think it’s something like,, If you want a pick, just ask otherwise I will cut your hand off 💗 Your Ace” or something like that
Misiek did slash right that? Or the tech
1:42, Did anyone notice the security guy watering the man? Lolllllllllllll
lol let me guess - never been front row before...
I DID LEL

1:50 reminds me of those stage Les Pauls used on the "Use Your Illusions" tour. That is one beat up guitar.
Love these videos but wish they would cover some of the peripheral stuff like strings, plecs, cables etc. Always interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes. Will be watching this tomorrow in Manchester in front of Mr Slash!

The compressor is the secret weapon in Slash's tone, its a complete lie that he only used it on the clean amps in the Use Your Illusions Era, he uses it all the time and never stopped.
And most amatuer guitarists think you need 50 different pedals to get great rock tones... Lmao!!!
Tramp but need an amp at the same price of 50 pedals
Angus Young uses no pedals and some say his tone is pure rock... Gary Rossington if Lynyrd Skynyrd also uses no pedals, his sound is pretty good also...
That's the wonderful thing about playing on the big stages...you CAN turn up a 100 watt Marshall to achieve those amazing tones. Most guitar players will never play on a stage big enough to turn up a 100 watter to make it useful.
Tramp dude slash used more than that during one of his big tours I think it was a festival or something but slash uses a ton of pedals

wow tom morello is slash's guitar tech now?
Zack Brannon vin diesel
No, it's Ace Frehley.
No, it’s Ace Vinello
It's a replica of the '87 standard he broke in rehearsal, I was just surprised that his tech didn't seem to know it was a Murphy aged pretend break.
4:00 Look at all the sweat over the guitar. Amazing.
He can barely refrain from grinning when he mentions that the amps are unmodified ahaha
The only thing better than this guys job is Slashes job.
Thanks for sharing this Ace.
He’s great! Being a tech knowing about sound design and equipments is not easy
What shampoo does Slash use?
+FrostByte Rumour has it that Slash doesn't use shampoo at all ;-) #ElNaturale
FrostByte 😂😂😂
Moshcam slash had a paper said if your hand went into a vault said I'll smash your bone.

Didn't know Vin Diesel's working as Slash's guitar tech!
Thats a dream gig man. Good on you bro.
The sign in the guitar case. HAHAHA
It's the red one he's playing slide on, I seen him play it live, and he's playin the USA model, you can see his signature on the headstock.
"If your fucking hand goes in this fucking vault, I will smash every fucking bone in your fucking body".

even his guitar tech has an awesome name
the truth is.. the true tone that is coming out is not from our gears.. but from our fingers.. agree with this guy
The note on the cabinet says "If your fucking hand goes in this fucking vault I will smash every fucking bone in your fucking body -
От 2:02 is must be also a VOS replica...Slash answered on Twitter that original `88 Guns Standart is also kept in storage..

Dimarzio Super Distortion is too hot.. you need a lower output pickup to get that sweet creamy tone.

I saw him in Houston with g'Nr and he used like 10 Guitars , it was fucking epic

Slash doesn't use any distortion he just uses the overdrive channel on his Marshall and turns the gain up .

I have modified many standard wahs to sound like signature so slash one has range between two H: Hendrix and hammet
