My fiancee needed a new Windows machine for getting online classwork done. She also adds in a mix of lesson planning as a teacher currently; her favorite part about this identical reviewed model with 8840HS is the standby power efficiency. It's vastly improved over previous generation of machines she had been using (all been Intel based on mobile). I got a chance to tinker around with it myself and found it quite enjoyable even with a slightly less-sharp display resolution. 1920x1200 is still more than adequate on the OLED. Favorite part of all, it was absolutely mint and we picked it up for $400 on our local FB Marketplace.

The AMD varient in Nepal has 3k res and 120hz display, 512gb SSD, 16gb ram and costs about USD 1150, while the Intel varient has FHD and 60hz display, 1tb SSD and 16gb ram and costs about USD 1330. Among these which should I buy as computer programming student? Plz reply.❤
The 14X was a great configuration . Now almost everyone has switched from 15.6” 16:9 screens to 14” and 16:10, their 14.5” 3.5K really stood out as a premium alternative with the best of both worlds in terms of portability and screen real estate. Pity they’ve mothballed it.
I'm desperately waiting for somw coverage on them from him, the s14 model seems to be the perfect 14" laptop possible. High wattage ryzen 7 chip, a 3k display and phenomenal battery life but unfortunately they're probably not available in the us market yet(I've seen them released on the chinese market) also the price seems to be around 1000 usd so it seems like a reasonable upgrade to the amd variant of the zenbook 14.
Thanks, Josh. As someone who owns an outdated Lenovo Ideapad, this looks really intriguing. I'm always scared to change brands because I have no clue how to transfer everything and if it's even an easy process. I know this channel isn't really for beginners, but if you ever consider it, I would love to see a video describing what to do when you switch laptop brands and how the process can be. Just a thought. Thanks again.
Lenovo Slim 7 with 7840s does exactly what the ZenBook 14 should've accomplished:It comes with 1800p oled screen.I know the CPU is last gen but there werent a lot of differences between the current and last generation, being pretty comparable, being faster than the new spectre 14, accordingly to notebookcheck.A shame that its Asia and EU exclusive.
I would love to get the Zenbook pro, since I’m going to need a dedicated gpu for my engineering classes, but with it being around $2000 I couldn’t justify the price. The Vivobook pro for $1400 with both a Ryzen 9 and 4060 is honestly an incredible deal and I had to get it over a comparable zenbook
It's very confusing. Everyone else is showing that AMD 8840hs on Zenbook 14 is with lower battery life than 155h on 3k display. I have no idea what's going on but all of these tests are all over the place (I'm not talking about your review but in general for these machines)
Do not regret that i bought the intel version, 32 Gb. Very good performance, decent battery life and that screen... Tried the Gram, didn't like the keyboard and the touchpad. Tried the Spectre from a friend, didn't like the feel of the computer at all, beside i've been burned twice before with HP, highly performant on the first months then it starts to fall apart. At work it happened with all HP laptops.
Lower price is surely appreciated. But 1920x1200 screen resolution is a big no-go to me. I do a lot of reading and coding on my laptop and 2.8K resolution is the sweet spot of a 14 inch screen.
What level of scaling do you use in Windows, just out of curiosity? I personally find text rendering using 1200p @ 100% scaling in Windows produces the best balance of readability and information density.
XDNA chip in AMD is Xilinx based FPGA, somebody might be able to bypass reflash and reuse the FPGA ignoring the AI shenanigans, having onboard flashable FPGA chip would definitely overkill feature for SE
I think you should add some sort of evaluation of OLED fringing issues for laptops that use OLED displays, different sub-pixel arrangements have different results so I think it would be good representation of a display's screen and resolution.
I was going to buy a laptop soon, but with AMDs Zen 5 APUs coming out in the next few months, I will wait. It will apparently be significantly more powerful than current APUs. Both in CPU and GPU power.
Love your reviews! You touch on all the important points that matter for target users/consumers. Comparison with other laptops is so helpful when we have a sea of seemingly similar choices. Your intro / conclusion are very straightforward and ultra clear as well compared to other laptop reviewers.
Thanks for this review! For a student who doesnt plan on gaming much, would you recommend this laptop over the pavilion plus 14 or the amd ideapad 5 pro 16?
I know you know this because you guys are such perfectionists, but somehow the resolution on the a-roll shots dropped sometime within the first four minutes of the video. It did not detract at all from the message or entertainment value. Just thought I'd give it a gentle mention. Have a great weekend Josh and team.
I'm wondering if we could get a review of Huawei D-series laptops? I've had an i5-xxxu D14 for 4 years and it is still running like brand new with no issues. Huaweis ofc do not have dedicated graphics, but from my experience they offer a pretty good quality-cost ratio? Minus the likely spyware lmao
I’m thinking on either this or the hp pavilion plus 14. I just graduated high school and will major in computer science. I also do a little gaming on the side.(not too much) which one would u recommend?
why dont they sell with 32GB here, Im gonna jump off a bridge soon with all these janky options lol ( i returned the intel one a while ago with CU9 and 32GB), also the touch numberpad was still available here, strange things per region
Hi Josh, i am a subscriber of your channel now for more than a year, i like your videos but was just wondering if you have reviewed any chromebooks? I have heard of chromebook plus but still they dont seem to be very powerful, was looking for some good one for my children who are studying in school but unfortunately the reviews on Chromebooks i have watched on youtube dont do the kind of checks and performance tests like you do. The reason i wanted some review on Chromebooks was because they have some with arm cpus and long battery life. But i dont know what the real world battery life is like. Would it be possible to review some chromebooks? thanks
Normally, we test the Netflix test on power saver. But the Cinebench test on max settings. We try to match how a user would run the laptop in those scenarios. Thanks btw
Appreciate the review. Might be interesting to see a review of two other computers in this class: the Acer Swift Go 14" OLED and the newest 2024 Lenovo Slim 7i. Would really appreciate seeing them.
I am excited about the AMD model. Though, the model of $799 with 512GB storage is sold out. Now ASUS sells the model of $999.99 with 1 TB storage. $200 more for 512GB more storage. I prefer the model of $799 with 512GB. Yep, I wish ASUS gives us option to upgrade display to higher resolution. Maybe later in 2024? Keeping my fingers crossed.
Josh Sir so does these Windows Laptops powered by new Ultra Series of Processors from AMD and Intel make them competitive enough and comparable to Macs with their ARM based M series of processors? What about performance on battery, performance per watt and battery life? Does Windows still need ARM processors Like Snapdragon X? Also, I have read both x86 and ARM are evolving and borrowing from each other and x86 is a tried and tested platform for processors.
@@JustJoshTech Sir I think they will not be competitive enough unless x86 like ARM becomes an SOC with integrated RAM which will lead to greater efficiency and low latency due to tightly knit components and also reduce its instructions per set for further gains in efficiency, but the former makes it more complex and consequently more difficult to repair and upgrade and also expensive with cost being passed down to consumers, while the latter might not happen anytime soon because x86 was not designed keeping power efficiency for mobile computing in mind. Intel refused to work on ARM when Apple was working for their iPhones citing it being not useful and Apple decided to make their own ARM Chips and today we see Apple having an upper hand and Intel struggling to keep up with Apple in thin and light Laptop space. I personally just like many others don't mind x86 because my portable computer is my Android smartphone, and my Gaming Laptop my desk PC for productivity. No issues with fan noise which is not much audible in balanced mode. And the traditional advantages of tried and tested x86 platform and the devices using it including modularity are more useful than being further tied down and restricted while the gains in battery life not a feature everybody wants or needs, as the needs of both regular users and enterprises does not necessarily align to and focused on this factor alone or at all.
The newer Zenbook 14s have been a letdown. The Zenbook 14 released in 2021 (UX425) with 11th-gen Tiger Lake was probably the peak of the lineup for those who just wanted a no-nonsense ultrabook. 1080p IPS screen, 1.1kg, and super-long battery life. OLED screens have made the Zenbooks heavier, and the keyboards are mushier.
11:07 '...consider last year's Zenbook with the older AMD processor and the *better display* ... I don't see why you should pay more for the latest Intel variant' Reason to pay more: all of the pre-2024 Zenbooks' touch OLED screens were marred with a harsher 'X' pattern due to the implementation of the digitizer, especially visible on light backgrounds, making the pre-2024 screens objectively worse! That's a pretty important detail since many buyers don't have the luxury of seeing these ones in store before they step on those landmines due to online sales. Even the 2024 Zenbook Intel touch OLED models have a hint of the x-digitizer compared to competitors, but I consider it subtle enough to be just passable.
What do you think about the Asus Zenbook Pro 15 flip (UP6502)? I am considering buying it because it's currently on sale for -$500 coming in at $1300 CAD.
That flickering-at-low-hertz, headache-inducing, ultra -eye-strainer OLED display on computer that is used 8+ hrs a day is such a major deal-breaker on otherwise excellent machine.
But I'm buying ZenBook 14x oled... It has better display and i need laptop for coding and my budget is max 1000$... But i really like new ZenBook 14 which is at 1299$... Is there chance of it going on a sale?
Can you review one with a dedicated graphics card and do a premiere pro puget bench test? I heard intel have way better encoders and decoders but would like to see some scores
I am looking to buy a laptop for its portability, battery life, and fan noise. I will be doing no gaming on this and it will strictly be for work and productivity (mainly a lot of emails, google sheets, excel, and browsing). There will be times that I have many tabs opened as well. The macbook air 13 satisfies all of that, except that I would much prefer a windows computer if possible. Currently the m2 chip macbooks are on sale for $750, but if you would recommend the $800 asus zenbook as a close "equivalent" then I would much rather buy it just because of windows. I want to get your expert opinion before I make a purchase. (I also hate fan noise and love a sleek computer, which is why I am even drawn to Mac in the first place. Its not like I hate mac and would not not buy one if recommended, but its just a small preference). Please let me know what you think! Thank you
Finally. Found the perfect video. But I don't get why different ports for different processors. And what is the difference between thunderbolt 4 and normal usb typec 4?
What BIOS did you have installed on the Intel model? They released a new BIOS last week (305) and I feel they have tweaked the fan curve to make them quieter.
Thanks now I need to save up 200$ more but I was about to buy a Dell Inspiron 15 or 16 and figured out they were horrible 😅 so this will be a huge upgrade and I’m considering both AMD options probably last years due to the better screen and it’s cheaper thanks for the recommendations ❤
Josh. I have a super important question. Does the 1200p oled exhibit text fringing (characteristic of a lot of oled displays) or is it just as sharp and clear as other 1200p IPSes?
I've question. In my country, there is AMD version with 16 GB and Intel ultra9 with 32 GB - my needs is more RAM = better , but AMD version price less than Ultra9 about 400$. Which one I suppose to pick ? both OLED 3k.
what is battery life like? This my main concern when getting it because I see a lot of reviewers (specifically ones that I trust like josh) saying it has really good battery like 12-14 hours on lighter tasks but a lot of customer reviews claiming 3-6 hours on light task and am confused where the disconnect is here.
@@TheArcadeCrow I usually have around 30 tabs open plus several Word docs and it can certainly last more than 3 hours. With all these tasks, I use less than 10% per hour. When I play games, after 3 to 4 hours, I still have more than 20% left. One thing I wanna point out is that sometimes it feels a bit laggy to type.
Some said its screen are downgrade. But for me, who mostly put laptop into external monitor setup, its a perfect option, no need to pay extra feature that I dont need :D
Hello and thanks for the review ! Got a quick question: what's the most reliable brand between Asus and HP ? You do really like the HP Specter 360 but I don't trust the brand at all, it has an history of the least reliable laptop brand.
Hey Josh I was thinking about getting the spectre x360 after watching your review (as I mainly need a laptop for programming and maybe light gaming like 2d indie games) but I have seen a lot of people who say that hp is really bad and their spectre x360 battery bricked within a few weeks also a lot of people said the battery life was closer to 6 hours on office tasks. What would be your response to this and do you think it would be good for my use case?
I have a 27" 1440p monitor. If I connected Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (UM3406) via HDMI, would the monitor appear in 144p resolution?

Asus was just 10cm short to make the perfect ultrabook. 16gb of ram is enough for everyone but we need to start seeing 32gb variants. This laptop will be a true power machine with 32gb of ram for software development... Nice review as usual Mr. Josh
Now I regret buying my 2023 ZenBook OLED 15(3k 120hz) with a 7735u It's crazy to get so much performance for 800$! While also getting a good build and display. Good job AMD and ASUS
I know you already said your intel zenbook is performing like others. If i have to choose so i will choose intel varient. I saw other reviews of intel zenbook, it got much better battery life and much better performance/perf.per watt.
@@JustJoshTech ok Sir. Matthew Moniz, Dave 2d and Andrew Marc David got much better performance at same power. Andrew Marc David Intel Zenbook got better BATTERY than AMD version with 1080p 60hz in other tasks like PC mark modern office.
@@HDRPC The new Intel chip benchmark battery tests cannot be trusted, especially those performing video playback, as they utilise the low-power efficiency cores. These cores are used at 1080p, but not at 4K so that can mislead. Also brightness when tested can vary which may alter results. Finally, real-life tests never reflect the benchmarks, they are generally 33% lower.

Plz reply.❤
No intel version also have same specs but i think amd is more value for money
Thank you for the review, when will you be covering Zenbook duo UX8406?
It's sold out everywhere q q
The 14X was a great configuration . Now almost everyone has switched from 15.6” 16:9 screens to 14” and 16:10, their 14.5” 3.5K really stood out as a premium alternative with the best of both worlds in terms of portability and screen real estate. Pity they’ve mothballed it.
I agree and I told them this
we deffo want bigger screens but still want the resolution
I'm really curious to hear what you think about the Vivobook S series that they just released since they seem similar to each other minus a few things
I find 1920x1200 resolution acceptable but not the 60 Hz refresh rate.
90hz as minimum would be great
It's not a gaming laptop and it's cheap considering the monster of a CPU it's packing inside. 60Hz is very much acceptable
Josh, inclusing some shots of the insides (the hinge and upgradability situation) would be great. Stay awesome daen unda 💪
Excellent and meticulous review, as usual. Well done.
Thanks mate, we are trying to get in as much info as possible in a fun and entertaining way
The AMD is sold out everywhere here in Canada with a price around CAD1500-1800. I just got the Intel ultra 7 with 1TB for CAD1550
I think you should add some sort of evaluation of
OLED fringing issues for laptops that use OLED displays, different sub-pixel arrangements have different results so I think it would be good representation of a display's screen and resolution.
I was going to buy a laptop soon, but with AMDs Zen 5 APUs coming out in the next few months, I will wait. It will apparently be significantly more powerful than current APUs. Both in CPU and GPU power.
thanks for sharing im gonna wait too. Do you know how long?
@@mo7074 they are supposed to announce it at Computex in June to launch in the summer.
Love your reviews! You touch on all the important points that matter for target users/consumers. Comparison with other laptops is so helpful when we have a sea of seemingly similar choices. Your intro / conclusion are very straightforward and ultra clear as well compared to other laptop reviewers.
Thank you. Always trying to improve here
Thanks for this review! For a student who doesnt plan on gaming much, would you recommend this laptop over the pavilion plus 14 or the amd ideapad 5 pro 16?
please review the thinkbook 14 gen 6 amd version with 85wh battery ...
3:59 just want to say it’s a bit misleading putting 0 dB for the fanless laptops, it should have the ambient dB of the room.
Hi Josh, still wondering which to get for beginner to intermidiate video editing tasks. Lenovo slim 7i or the mac pro 14 with M2. WDYT?
MacBook Pro 14 for sure out of those 2
@@JustJoshTech Thank you!
I know you know this because you guys are such perfectionists, but somehow the resolution on the a-roll shots dropped sometime within the first four minutes of the video. It did not detract at all from the message or entertainment value. Just thought I'd give it a gentle mention. Have a great weekend Josh and team.
I am realy looking forward to the zenbook duo review
The issue now is, when will it come in stock.
I'm wondering if we could get a review of Huawei D-series laptops? I've had an i5-xxxu D14 for 4 years and it is still running like brand new with no issues. Huaweis ofc do not have dedicated graphics, but from my experience they offer a pretty good quality-cost ratio?
Minus the likely spyware lmao
if there is a $50 difference between the AMD and Intel 7 which one would you recommend?
I’m thinking on either this or the hp pavilion plus 14. I just graduated high school and will major in computer science. I also do a little gaming on the side.(not too much) which one would u recommend?
This zenbook will be way better as the cpu is better than the one in the pavilion. Plus you won't be gaming at 2k resolution with these specs.
why dont they sell with 32GB here, Im gonna jump off a bridge soon with all these janky options lol ( i returned the intel one a while ago with CU9 and 32GB), also the touch numberpad was still available here, strange things per region
I'm holding out for the arm stuff. Great review as usual.
Thanks mate! We will get some in for sure
Would it be possible to review some chromebooks? thanks
Yes, we have some here. I'd love to do a video on them this year. I will try my best
@@JustJoshTech Great!! thanks for the response, didn't expect a reply...will be looking forward to that video.
is the battery life tested with the power saver on or off? and as always, amazing review josh!
We have them. :)
The best buy version goes for $250 sale and the walmart version seems to never go on sale. Or does walmart do deals eventually?
You have the best reviews hands down, thank you so much as you’re helping me in my journey in choosing my next laptop!
Can you actually measure the noise level in dba (both under IDLE and LOAD) so people can make a comparison?
I am excited about the AMD model. Though, the model of $799 with 512GB storage is sold out. Now ASUS sells the model of $999.99 with 1 TB storage. $200 more for 512GB more storage.
I prefer the model of $799 with 512GB. Yep, I wish ASUS gives us option to upgrade display to higher resolution. Maybe later in 2024? Keeping my fingers crossed.
Can't find 32gb RAM variant anywhere on the internet. It is however advertised on the Asus Page configuration.
Macs are much better re the processor. No they are not competitive. In this video the Air has no fan. So zero fan noise ever
I don't see why you should pay more for the latest Intel variant'
Reason to pay more: all of the pre-2024 Zenbooks' touch OLED screens were marred with a harsher 'X' pattern due to the implementation of the digitizer, especially visible on light backgrounds, making the pre-2024 screens objectively worse!
How about the speaker quality compare with Macbook?
What do you think about the Asus Zenbook Pro 15 flip (UP6502)? I am considering buying it because it's currently on sale for -$500 coming in at $1300 CAD.
That flickering-at-low-hertz, headache-inducing, ultra -eye-strainer OLED display on computer that is used 8+ hrs a day is such a major deal-breaker on otherwise excellent machine.
Thanks for pointing out the screen door effect and the color tinge in white of the OLED! Super duper helpful
But I'm buying ZenBook 14x oled... It has better display and i need laptop for coding and my budget is max 1000$... But i really like new ZenBook 14 which is at 1299$... Is there chance of it going on a sale?
As Josh said, they often go on sale for around 200 or 300 less, so yeah its possible
check the lenovo 14" OLED? sometimes u can get it for 1000 USD.
Thank you
Does the Zen 14 or 14x come in a silver/grey and why do both seem out of stock everywhere? thanks!
We have the latest
Thanks now I need to save up 200$ more but I was about to buy a Dell Inspiron 15 or 16 and figured out they were horrible 😅 so this will be a huge upgrade and I’m considering both AMD options probably last years due to the better screen and it’s cheaper thanks for the recommendations ❤
Josh. I have a super important question. Does the 1200p oled exhibit text fringing (characteristic of a lot of oled displays) or is it just as sharp and clear as other 1200p IPSes?
Brother please answer me ,is it undoubtedly best laptop for all type of software development work with premium look and feel
Edit: It says it is sold out, how long will it be for the new AMD version to be back in stock? When do prices usually drop?
Sadly in Germany the AMD variang 10 1000€ and not on sale ever :(
I'd really like to see an update to the Pro variant. Hopefully that changes.
id say it is a great laptop for engineers. Some code and maybe cad work can be done
I wish there was an amd version with the 3k display and either 512gb storage w/ 32gb ram or 1tb storage w/16gb ram for like $1k, that would rule
Could you review the vivobook with the core ultra 9 and 4060? I want to know how good the battery life is..
Yes
With all of the issues we have had with ASUS with their laptops failing as the warranty ends? Do you really think this is a good idea?
I've question. In my country, there is AMD version with 16 GB and Intel ultra9 with 32 GB - my needs is more RAM = better , but AMD version price less than Ultra9 about 400$. Which one I suppose to pick ? both OLED 3k.
Please review the Thinkpad T14 gen 5 AMD version
I got the spectre x360 like a week ago and I agree that this laptop is awesome
what is battery life like?
Hey Josh, I want to buy a laptop in America and take it to South Africa. Will it work there ?
Some said its screen are downgrade. But for me, who mostly put laptop into external monitor setup, its a perfect option, no need to pay extra feature that I dont need :D
When bench are provided, are they plugged or on battery ?
It's absolutely bizarre that the AMD variants of the 2024 Zenbook 14 comes only with 16 GB soldered RAM. Why ASUS, why!
The 3k pixels 90 hz one with amd ryzen 7, 16GB and 1 TB is available here for 1000$. A decent buy?
I'm wondering about this too? Where do you see it?
Josh
dam i kept thinking he would tell us to buy the zenbook 14 2024 intel variant... but he kept skipping it to HP or zenbook from last year lol
I'd love to see Josh review some tablets.
Now I regret buying my 2023 ZenBook OLED 15(3k 120hz) with a 7735u
It's crazy to get so much performance for 800$! While also getting a good build and display. Good job AMD and ASUS
Can u do casual gaming on this?
its weird to compare 8840hs with 7730u. we need to know difference from 7840u and 7840hs.
I know you already said your intel zenbook is performing like others.
If i have to choose so i will choose intel varient. I saw other reviews of intel zenbook, it got much better battery life and much better performance/perf.per watt.
We had 2 Intel models btw to double check our scores
Is it a Touchscreen?
