I owned one of these for around 4 months a few years back. I had it for only 4 months because it was ridiculous at rd speeds, trying to keep it within the 50km typical road limit in most cases was painfully difficult and i clocked up 3 tickets in the first month. On the High ways doing 100 110, it settled down a bit and was noticeably happier. On the 1 track day i did with it , its came alive while admittedly scaring the hell outta me too when i did wind it open. It didn't take long to realize it was every liability i could think of on 2 wheels so she had to go. Ive since ended up on V2 Street Fighter which is considerably more practical and arguably fun for my riding ability .. and no speeding tickets.. yet!
1299 will likely be the replacement for my 899. I have ridden many s1000rr's and honestly they're probably the best all round sports bike package you can buy. But at no point did I want to buy one. It's great but just didn't fall in love with it and they're so capable but I find them pretty detached and not raw like the panigale's. Each to their own ofcourse
+Finding Neutral Yeah, I know what you mean though I'm yet to ride a BMW sports bike - they may be technically sound but what is that squinty look all about eh??
Thanks for a great vid TMF. Just to say that you don't need to worry about mentioning that the bike is uncomfortable. I think we all need to accept that any sports bike requires a certain level of fittness to ride, if not, then there are plenty of retro, street fighters and adventure bikes to choose from... Its also good practice to do a few warm up exercises befor each ride. Keep up the good work!
Totally agree. If money were no object I would LOVE to have a panigale S. I'm with you. I think they are a very nice looking bike. One of the best looking sport bikes to me.
Love the panigale 1299s, track day on that will give you a grin. Took out the tuono factory and panigale, preferred the Ducati for all types of riding on the UK roads, even behaved itself in town unlike the Tuono which was choppy. You’re right it is semi comfortable for a super sports

I’ve found a 1299 for sale with 1500km on it for the same price as a new 959. I agree the 959 is probably the better road bike.. but for almost the same price, may as well get the 1299?
I used to have the 2013 BMW S1000RR which was a great street bike, rides great, smooth, and fast as politician is corrupt. I was curious how they stacked. I think I would choose the S1000RR as it has way better day-to-day and will stay with the Ducati on the track.
+TheMissendenFlyer Now that is very true. The Ducati looks like a 24 year old Sofia Loren with wheels. The S1000RR has a face only a mother could love, or as they say a face for radio, but boy was it an awesome bike.
+David Homoney I would wager that the pani is also an awesome bike, and it has the gorgeous looks....unfortunately a price tag to go with it too, the BMW is definitely better value.....
touristguy87 comfort. Incredibly comfortable seat, grip warmers, and cruise control. Not saying the pani isn't a great bike, just not as good day-to-day.
I took the 1299s out and I loved it and it's lighter than the 959 and I found that it was a better bike, but not sure if I would pay out the money for it
Great review, I've had 7 years away from bikes and I've been toying with and 1199s but seeing this on real roads I think the 1299s would be more suitable. Cheers.
TMF - I actually bought probably the last new 899 in the country on a 16 plate! Of note is my chain has rusted too at only 600 dry miles :( Also you can have an auto blipper that's identical to the one on the 1299s fitted to the 899 - I did and it's flawless :)
+TheMissendenFlyer I thoroughly recommend getting one - and I'm sure a video of you fitting it would go down a treat! The guys who made it at Bike Sports Development fitted mine for me.
thanks for the reply. I've read the 959 is a more comfortable bike and a lot better for commuting is that true. I'd be just as happy with a 959 as 1299 and being 6 foot comfort is a serious issue for me as the bike will be main mode of transport. i don't have any experience with sport bikes do you know any that are considered comfortable? again thanx again and ride safe. also most of my journeys will be in London where it's not that bike friendly, not compared to say the north (England).
Well the Panigale is considered comfortable for a sports bike but I would think for a 6 footer it may be an issue - best to go and sit on one and see what you think....and yes definitely the 959 would be better for commuting than the 1299 but that's like saying a Lamborghini is better than an Ariel Atom for the school run...true but you still wouldn't use it for that primary purpose!
Great video. How did you find the heat off the exhaust? I was out on one during a very hot day and the heat through the seat from the exhaust was unbelievable. Put me right off it much to the salesman's disgust. Other than that it was some piece of kit.
+dave80h Well I'm used to it from my 899 and so far (in the cold British weather) I've found it positively beneficial! I didn't notice it was any hotter on the 1299.....of course it remains to be seen what it is like on a really hot day! I love the looks of the Panigale so much I can cut its foibles quite a lot of slack :0) Thanks for stopping by - TMF
I'm a complete beginner and the Ducati is my dream bike. after 12 months of riding would one be able to transtion from 500cc to that safely. also what is it like as a commuter bike? great vid love the way you review the bike and keep things simple anyways be cool and ride safe.
Hi Mark, the Panigale is my dream bike too and it took me 5 years to transition to it - I'm sure I could have switched earlier but it is a completely different kettle of fish to a 500cc road back (depending on what it is of course). Take one for a test ride and see what you think, if you are very confident and have the will power to not push it then you'll be fine with it..... Wouldn't make a great commuter though, could be done but let's face it sports bike's aren't comfortable and the Panigale runs hot under your backside at the best of times, sat in commuter traffic would be pretty unpleasant. I don't want to put you off, just go in with your eyes open and think carefully (which you obviously are!). Thanks for the kind words, all the best - TMF
As usual great video I must say I have to agree with most things mentioned in this video sounds absolutely gorgeous in the flesh so to speak, I have the 959 and as you say with your 899 that’s plenty for the road ,pure track weapon me thinks with the 1299, love the vids keep it up all the best and keep safe jon
+Rob 79 I think the Panigale 1299s I rode is closer to £23K - and I agree, the BMW is at least as good technically - but doesn't look as nice does it :0) My 899 + Termi's was more than the s1000rr but I still went with the Duke...
@@TheMissendenFlyer 1299 should Sound deeper? I have 899 but its different when you ride it you can’t really know how it sounds when you pass by someone. I live in Cairns,Australia, not many Panigales here so dont have much opportunity to hear them passing by and compare. Saw one 1199 passed through my street, i shit my pants, sounds sick, if 899 sounds like that I would be more than happy
+Andrew Tofts Thanks Andy, think I might join you on that one....it's the only way I could bring myself to spend that sort of money on one of these puppies.....
I've ridden the 899, the 1199 (and the V4S just a few months ago) but not the 1299, to be honest I found the 1199 slightly intimidating as the power came in with a bang a bit like a race tuned two stroke but of course with a lot more power, I believe Ducati ironed out these "eccentricities" on the 1299 which appears to be much more user friendly, Ducati themselves described the 899 as a better road bike and from my short spell on the 899 it's something I couldn't argue with, in fact of all the Ducatis I've been lucky enough to ride the only one that betters the 899 is the V4 , I've talked to a couple of people who've changed from the 899 to the 959 and both agreed the 899 was the better bike of the two ,with a much better "soundtrack" and no power advantage from the 959 despite its extra 57cc, no doubt lost to the more severe Euro4 emission regulations. btw can we expect your review of the V4S anytime soon.
Phwoar! Just listen to that V-twin. Isn't it a shame the camera never quite does a V-twin justice.. So much nicer in person. Those 144Nm of torque though must be something to experience.. My 1190 has roughly 125Nm and boy does she rocket towards silly speeds! I can only imagine what less weight and even more power would feel like, although its the riding position that gets me, where as the 1190 is upright and much like your GS in terms of comfort. Do you really not find yourself stretching your back out a lot and wishing for the beemer on rides of 1 hour+?
Hi Oliver - Yes the mighty V-Twin does sound the biz doesn't it - you can't really get the full effect on-road, but on the track these "Superquadro's" sound amazing to my ears....comfort was a big concern when I bought my 899 but it has surprised me how quickly I got used to this alien position - rides of an hour plus really aren't an issue once your bones become accustomed to it. I'm not saying it's GS comfy obviously, but it's not anywhere near as bad as I expected (and yet still bought one!). Gorgeous bike....
+Paul Davies I'm with you - my GS has a similar system but I don't really notice that either - perhaps I have a very insensitive bum! ...tho' having said that both my GS and this Pani do ride very well....perhaps that's the point (unnoticeable)
+TheMissendenFlyer "Unnoticeable", interesting point. I'm the same with all these effects with my guitar tho, can't tell the difference between a £30 box and one costing £130 :(
That's a gorgeous bike there but I struggle to see the point of it on a regular road. If I won the lottery though I'd buy one in a heartbeat, if only for it to sit in the living room where I can drool over it. That was a shocking looking road btw. I think the Moon's smoother.
Not sure how you can say the 899/959 is better. Maybe if you got the revs above 4k you might have realised how good the engine is. The 1299 is easily the best bike on the planet for handling and nailing the corners. Each to their own as they say!
...I didn't say it was better per se, just better as a road bike as the power is more usable, the 1299 is very expensive for very little gain if you're just riding on the road is my view....
The electronic suspension alone separates this from every other bike I have ever ridden S1K etc. I don't think I have ever felt safer going fast especially in corners.
Great review mate , I have the 821 monster , I only passed my test last week ! Is it normal that the bike feels wobbly at very low corner speeds , I think I’m too chicken to go fast round corners 🤣👍🏽what’s your opinion ?
TheMissendenFlyer cheers dude , so when you corner do you keep the speed up and just lean over ? I can’t help pulling the clutch in and then I’m at idle speed 😩 la k of confidence I think 👍🏽
@@Cartsp70 Sounds like it - I brake before I reach the corner if necessary and then counter steer through it - no need to dip the clutch - maybe get an hour or two with an instructor just on cornering? (I'm no expert)....
This one had a relatively heavy clutch - but not so heavy that it made me thing "wow, heavy clutch" - it's just that these days new bikes tend to have very light ones....thanks for watching - TMF
+Captain Rambunctious ...well I shall get some, alas PC hard disk failure is getting in the way of me editing at the moment, so will be a while coming :0(
Thinking the Panigale would be horrible on dirt roads vs. the Multistrada....my ST plows and crashes on dirt roads LOL!!! (sarcasm). The Panigale is truly a work of art - read where Ducati is about to be sold again.... :-(
The Panigale does not like to be under 5-6k RPMs. Even my 959 grumbles under 4-5k. It is just how the bike is. The 1299 is a race bike, sold to humans.
soooo, ive had my 899 for 2 years, ive always said id get a 1299 at some stage, local dealer got one in.. took her for a test ride. dear god. i had no words. unreal.
@@jaronefarrell3047 yeah i got it, i dont notice the heat tbh, im used to it i think, id say its smoother than the 899 pal, trust me its worth it, take it a test ride 1st if you can,
Thank you Udarni - always great to hear from down under! Would love to do a review of the Hypermotard, just need to find someone willing to let me borrow one! All the best and enjoy the summer...
Hi Bro! Looks like a nice bike, allways love the Red as my Street Triple R 2011 ive has from last Month.i think you said! 205 bhp for the Ducati! If im right in Earing! Thats a 100 bhp more then my bike.very interesting Video as allways.thanks Bro.
+Paul Gregroy Yes, 100hp more sounds like a lot doesn't it (especially when you consider my little honda has less than 30hp!) - I have to say the 1299 doesn't feel twice as powerful as the Street Triple, maybe a third as much more - I guess this power thing has a law of diminishing returns.....
+TheMissendenFlyer Im looking closely at the XDiavel S, holding back on a test ride as I am quite sure I would want one! It would be great to hear a review from you on one as I like your perspective on bikes. Any chance of you hooking up a XDiavel for a ride?
TheMissendenFlyer pick it up next week buddy. Bit nervous as the 8 is such a well balanced road bike. When I tested the 12 I felt a bit like a Christmas from when I was young, parents got me a BMX and then I realised I couldn't do any of the tricks! Ha ha. What I mean ofcourse is it's so powerful and so capable you can't scratch the surface. But I do use my bikes on track, so that was the idea.... fingers crossed I've not made a mistake
Good luck! Out of interest do you take out track insurance? I found that very expensive on the 899 (£200/day) and it's prevented me doing more track days to be honest....
TheMissendenFlyer never have to be honest. I'd imagine there's not many that do.. I never push that hard, like to have a bit in reserve just in case! I guess if I did have a big off, it'd probably be a case of wheeling it out on to the road and phone the insurance company like I've seen people do in the past - oops
Yeah all understood....it's not so much what you do on track yourself, it's if someone else over-does it and takes you out with him/her....I'd hate to walk away with a written off Panigale as a result of someone else's error and not have insurance. Not sure what I will do this year, I love the odd track day, just don't want it to be a trash day!
So disappointed when test rode this. Sounded awful, heat from cans terrible, mirrors rubbish, and only felt better when riding pretty fast. Big expensive toy.

Rode one of these last year and it scared me and delighted me in equal measure. The cylinders thumping at low revs feel like a tractor
+Steve I know exactly what you mean!
Revisiting your video after nine years and I now own a v4 pani. Have to admit I think the 1299 looks better and hasn’t aged a day!
Yes the original Panigale defo looked better than the current ones - weren’t as easy to ride though….
Excellent (and very honest) review. Another great vid, keep up the good work!
Thanks for a great vid TMF. Just to say that you don't need to worry about mentioning that the bike is uncomfortable. That's a gorgeous bike there but I struggle to see the point of it on a regular road. If I won the lottery though I'd buy one in a heartbeat, if only for it to sit in the living room where I can drool over it. That was a shocking looking road btw. I think the Moon's smoother.
I agree on all points Gordon!
Is it normal that the bike feels wobbly at very low corner speeds , I think I’m too chicken to go fast round corners 🤣👍🏽what’s your opinion ?
....it's not normal so possibly down to your newbie technique - keep at it, you'll get there! ...and congratulations on passing the test!
Is the 1299 still has the heavy clutch pull?
This one had a relatively heavy clutch - but not so heavy that it made me thing "wow, heavy clutch" - it's just that these days new bikes tend to have very light ones....thanks for watching - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer do you think should i change the slave clutch on the 1299? And if so what brand do you recommended? Thanks
No idea Evan, I think that's a question for your dealer/local bike mechanic (sorry!)....
TheMissendenFlyer thanks man hahaa
21,000 pounds? That's the heaviest bike ever!! How does it even go fast? That's heavier than the truck that delivered it.
Wow Looks Fast And Awsome You Should Get One
+bowlerwildcat2016 I think not - for the reasons I stated in the video, I'll be sticking with my 899.....
Oh ok
It's tricky when you haven't got a track nearby... Oh hang on, Silverstone?! 😉
Nicely reviewed...
+Captain Rambunctious Cheers Captain! ....and yes I shall be visiting Silverstone in June ......but Donnington awaits for me and my 899 tomorrow :0)
+TheMissendenFlyer awesome! Have lots of fun! Lots of video too please!
+Captain Rambunctious ...well I shall get some, alas PC hard disk failure is getting in the way of me editing at the moment, so will be a while coming :0(
TheMissendenFlyer Ouch! THat's rubbish! Time to go Apple... ;-) Probably a swear word in your house?
I'm assuming your speedo was in km and not miles :)
+Mister borntodrill Correct, Italian bikes are often set to km by default....
I'm torn - Multistrada or Panigale....
Well you know my answer already! :0)
Thinking the Panigale would be horrible on dirt roads vs. the Multistrada....my ST plows and crashes on dirt roads LOL!!! (sarcasm). The Panigale is truly a work of art - read where Ducati is about to be sold again.... :-(
More bikes need a clear speedo on their screens, too many have tiny readouts or dials
+S Miller Agreed!
The Panigale does not like to be under 5-6k RPMs.
Even my 959 grumbles under 4-5k. It is just how the bike is.
The 1299 is a race bike, sold to humans.
+msdss Yes it's a lovely bit of kit (as are all the Panigalis but then I'm biased :0) - cheers - TMF
to powerfully for road use feels lumpy because it's basically ticking over at 60mph the 899 is a much better road bike all round
Can't help but agree with that! :0) Thanks for watching and for stopping by John - TMF
The blurry speedometer is broken
+Paul Harrison I thought that, very unreliable at best...
Good Reviews ! Thank you 😊 I hope you review 2017 Aprilia RSV4RF
+Sean C Thank you - you are very welcome!
Lovely looking bike 👍🏻🏍
+DervMan Sure is....
soooo, ive had my 899 for 2 years, ive always said id get a 1299 at some stage, local dealer got one in.. took her for a test ride. dear god. i had no words. unreal.
I've been looking into the 1299 I had the 899 to tell me more about ur experience with it
@@jaronefarrell3047 whole differnet ball game, i loved my 899, but the 1299 is a monster. Fantastic bike!
@@McKillop1993 did u end up buying it. Does it get just as hot as the 899 and does it ride the same at low speed
@@jaronefarrell3047 yeah i got it, i dont notice the heat tbh, im used to it i think, id say its smoother than the 899 pal, trust me its worth it, take it a test ride 1st if you can,
nước nào mà đi làn bên trái thế nhỉ??
Err, dunno....
In your country of circulation in the left lane?
Yes, correct....
oh, you're welcome
another great video TMF, it is a lovely looking bike . "but worth the extra money" compared to yours? not so sure.
+Peter Gunton I'm sure it's not - not to me anyway, may be different if you are a track day enthusiast of course....
Thanks for another through review, beautiful bike but I think I prefer your bike especially for the money
Yes, as a road rider the 899 is more than enough for me (and more than enough money to spend on a bike!)....thanks for watching - TMF
Surely the 1299 is tractable enough to ride in 4th 5th and 6th mate. Nice vid though. Just an observation. Probably a very good reason.
Cheers Mike - thanks for watching and for stopping by...
Noce vid as always mate. Greetings from Aus. Do a Hypermotard review :)))
Thank you Udarni - always great to hear from down under! Would love to do a review of the Hypermotard, just need to find someone willing to let me borrow one! All the best and enjoy the summer...
BTW, your roads are like the ones here in the Republic of Oklahoma!
+David Homoney ....but without the tornadoes!
+TheMissendenFlyer - I know, and where is the fun in that?
way too sedate......ride it man!
Very pretty bike and more nippy that necessary. I bet that thing could even overtake a Harley-Davidson. :)
+Hepcat Harley Well I've never ridden a Harley, so I'll have to take your word for it HH ;0)
Yes I don't think any bike looks as good as the Ducati its a bike that stands out
+Rob 79 ...except maybe the XDiavel S....oh hang on, another Ducati!
+TheMissendenFlyer Im looking closely at the XDiavel S, holding back on a test ride as I am quite sure I would want one! It would be great to hear a review from you on one as I like your perspective on bikes. Any chance of you hooking up a XDiavel for a ride?
+Shaun Knight ....it's defo on my wish list!
i was there when u done that video
+SPEEDY BIKER UK You should have come and said hello!
lol i no i was working out witch r1 to get
Beautiful bike but it makes the 959 look a bargain.
+Martin Agreed - the 1299 is a beaut, but it's not a whole lot better than the "baby" Panigale - certainly not worth the price IMO.....
Just traded my 899 for one of these :)
...and how are you finding it?
Beautiful bike but not for the road, I can imagine it would cook your bollocks whilst stationary in mid summer! Great review
+Virtu FA Thanks, and yes, you're probably right (even my 899 does that quite nicely)......
So that's why you was on the 1299 😉
+REVBOMBTOM 17 Indeed :0)
Hand it over !!!
148 bhp the 899 has
+utterlycutterly1 yup
Man, it sure is pretty. :-]
Agreed - I'm happy just to look at it!
Full colour display in black and white
:0) Who needs colour on such an amazing bike eh?
205/147=1.3946 so 2/5 more powerful not 1/4 , back to school Mr Missenden ;)
+miteor ....cut me some slack, I was trying too hard not to trash a £20K bike to do proper maths! :0)
lucky sod
+JackSwatman In what way? Just for riding it??
+TheMissendenFlyer yes, I'm 19 so can't test ride anything :(
+JackSwatman Aha! I see......your time will come!
+TheMissendenFlyer yes, is a year and 4months exactly haha
So disappointed when test rode this. Sounded awful, heat from cans terrible, mirrors rubbish, and only felt better when riding pretty fast. Big expensive toy.
If you think the heat that the panigale produces comes from the cans, I doubt very much you even rode one🤔
Looks great sounds awful
Sounds gorgeous to my ears - a matter of personal taste I guess! Thanks for watching - TMF
Ducs always sound shit on camera...don't know why
probably the lack of bass response
UA-cam audio LOL!!!
Frequency response of the action camera’s microphone isn’t the greatest. My 1299S sounds stunning & is amazing to ride.
