When compared to a modern police report Luke's preamble is amateurish. Who did he interview? When did he start his investigation? What documents did he study? Did he investigate the crucifixion location? Did he investigate the resurrection location? Did he look for additional witnesses? We don't know because Luke did not document any of these basic questions.
Greetings to you. I have a general question about the name of Jesus. I believe he existed however I struggle with one thing. Why was his name translated to become Jesus instead of his given birth? Especially if The letter J didn’t exist when he was born.? I may not be the only one who thinks about this fact.
The answer to your question is actually quite interesting. You are correct that there is no J in Hebrew, nor is there a, b, c, or d. Hebrew uses an entirely different type of script/lettering system. How we ended up with the name Jesus is through a process call transliteration, which is taking one alphabet and representing it with another alphabet. The gospels actually do this already, they take Jesus name from Hebrew (yeshu) and transliterated it into Greek (Iesous). So when we take the Greek form and transliterate it to English, we get Jesus.
What would be your explanation about the passion? If all the disciples were sleeping in the garden who heard Jesus talking to God? Authors like Tacitus wrote at length how Roman law was a very very strict and tedious process. How could Pilot simply washing his hands allow a crucifixion to take place in a mere couple of days? This was a death for the most heinous. I know about the orphic faith and possibly this is where the story of the passion came from. What is the true apologist answer to these questions? If I am off base so be it. There is so much confusing material out there. I would like to hear your side.
If you warched the video, you would know that during ancient times, they don't emphasize writing that much except maybe when you're royalty and did somerhing great or outrageous to stand out. @@ernesthader1109 Thanks , but antiquity is the most documented period in history . Roman and hebrew history . Plus Mark 1: 28 tells us " news about him spread quickly througout the whole region and also galilee ". So Jesus was well known , I just suprised we have no contemporary eyewitness .

We have no idea how much of the gospels were compiled from eyewitness testimony. Just because the books are named after Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John doesn't mean they were the source of 100% of the material therein.

There is actually only 4 potentially credible historical sources in reference to Jesus (not the 4 biblical biographers) one being more reliable but All of them are questionable! The difference between Jesus & Tiberius is that Jesus doesn’t outside of the Biblical texts. We know the Bible(The book of Eli) [my God] n scripture in it isn’t of one religion/belief system. It is a collection of different books, It’s also a gradual regional creation & collective of evolving, adjusting, assimilating acculturations of differing, competing & precursive interrelated societies & 0:30 interwoven and overlapping cultural practices, ways of life, beliefs, experiences, traditions, customs, social & spiritual development that happens as populations grow and tribal communities, city-states & nation states go to war ethnically cleansing, displacing & forced migration, ,raping ,enslaving, subjugation, then over time assimilation, cultural integration, interracial marriage & absorbing each others culture and beliefs. Every time a nation state and or empire invades and conquers another people those people adhere to the aggressors cultural norms and religious practices . Bart Ehrman may not be a good source to qoute . Yes in his book " did jesus exist " he did state that point ; speaking of the historical jesus . But when you read his other books like " misqouting jesus " how jesus became god " and others ; he makes it clear the theological jesus " the one who rose from the dead " that did not happen . Albert Schweitzer came to the same conculsion .
I think he's reason for referencing them is to highlight that secular scholars, even those somewhat antagonistic to Christianity like Ehrman, can't deny him as a historical figure. Also, Ehrman's "public," work, like Misquoting Jesus, has long been slanted as anti-Christian to the point that his scholarly work sometimes comes into conflict.
@@EIA-Observer True , Ehrman's book " Did Jesus exist " was to make a point to the mythic community , who state " the historical Jesus did not existed . No. But the evidence that he could give out powers like applying a TM is kinda lacking. Iirc he simply told the drowning guy to believe in god and then that dude could walk on water. Not really much before or after that being explained about the matter.
A story of someone's life from 1000yrs ago told by the people that were there they told another and so on. The story will never be the same word for word of the events that happened long ago. People put they're own words and beliefs into it making it unoriginal. Not saying it's all a lie or truth, king Henry burned all the original Bibles of his time and replaced them with Bibles he wrote. I have an example of how words get twisted throughout the years. 30yrs ago on my bday my bro and I got shot my bro died. This year in September they had a art show of his art and the reporter for a newspaper was asking questions about that night we got shot. When it first happened I talked to a lot of reporters, why did the TV news and the 3 newspapers get the whole story wrong and they recorded what we said they all had different stories. It was all mixed up. Also the newspaper reporter that was at the art show in September 2024 recorded the interview and she still put her own words in it and it was nothing that I said. So I think we should take in the info from past humans seriously because we weren't there all we have is other people's words to go off of. I just proved we can believe it if we didn't see it or hear it for ourselves. In my opinion anyways
King Henry did not burn all the original bibles. We have copies of all the entire New Testament dating to within 100 years of Jesus, with smaller portions even earlier. The oldest complete bibles, as in it contains all 66 books in one volume dates to between 325 and 350. That is within 300 years of Jesus. And that is just a complete copy. We have copies of individual books form even earlier. The books of the Bible we have now are the same as when they were written in the first century (when all the biblical books were written, and when the events they depict took place. Even atheist scholars like Bart erhman state this to be true.
@darklorddork8520 cool 😎 thanks for the update I appreciate it I haven't gotten that far. Other than a few documentaries and ebooks I haven't looked any further I'm still learning the Bible and it's history. I didn't think he got every book I did type I didn't think he got them all, but I deleted that part. Do you think that the books we have today is word for word? Like I said I'm still learning and I ask that question to everyone when the conversation comes up. The reason why I believe it is not is because some people talk different and when they feel it's not said right they replace it with what they think sounds right. Like when I got shot it was a big story in my community the reports recorded what I said happened and they totally changed my story. I mean like switched almost everything I said. My one friend died but they said it was me and my other friend got shot in the leg that was me. That's just one example I could make a 10hr video of real stuff that happened and how the word get twisted as the stories are being told by different people down the line. Again thanks for that info now I have something else to look into👍
There is much more proof for the existence of the Buddha who lived about 500 years earlier. From what I've seen all extrabiblical sources referring to Jesus are sketchy 3rd hand accounts or forgeries made during the Renaissance. I'm sorry but people dont come back from the dead. Does not the book of Mark exclude the resurrection entirely? Edit: No one wants to reply? Come on...
The book of mark most certainly includes the crucifixion and resurrection. The sources we reference in regards to Jesus are hardly sketchy as you put it and all date to the first and second centuries. The 4 gospels for example are all within the first century with the first among them (Mark) being dated to at the latest, less than 40 years after Jesus. The others include Luke, and as well as Matthew and John who were friends and followers of Jesus. Again all of them are in the first century. No Christian scholar cites any sources as late as the renaissance. Then there are books written by people who knew the apostles and were apostles like Peter, Paul, Jude, and James, as well as numerous second century Christian writings written by people close to the apostles. We also have numerous second and third century sources written by non Christians attesting to Jesus as well. Given that you thought Mark didn’t have the crucifixion in it and that Christians cite sources from the renaissance, It doesn’t seem you know much in this area. I did some research on the evidence for Buddha. There are some mentions of him dating back to within 60 years of him (at the earliest which is already later than Jesus) but the first biographical work dates to nearly 3-4 hundred years after budddha is though to have existed. So while we can reasonably conclude that he was a real guy, you would have to conclude that Jesus also was real as the evidence for him is far more abundant and detailed closer to his life time than buddha’s. As far as your claim that people don’t come back from the dead, you are generally correct. It isn’t a naturally occurring event, that is why the fact that Jesus did rise from the dead is so important. We Christians don’t believe that people just spontaneously come back from the dead, but rather that it requires a direct act of God. Which we have sufficient evidence for, which also includes a great deal of evidence and argumentation for the existence of God. If in fact Jesus did rise from the dead as we Christians claim, then how would we know? Through documentation from the time of its occurrence. Simply stating that people don’t rise from the dead isn’t sufficient to dismiss evidence of people rising from the dead. That is imposing a philosophical criteria on historical study, it’s circular. “The gospels are false because people don’t rise from the dead.” How do you know? “There’s no evidence” what about this evidence? “That evidence doesn’t count because people don’t rise from the dead”
Jesus' existence isn't sketchy but his miracles are - walking on water, raising people from the dead, multiplying fish and bread and resurrecting from the dead.
Wow, Christian apologists trying so hard to justify the gospels writers. The lies in what you said are apparent. The writer of Matthew and John, have not identified themselves as the disciples of Jesus. Infact in Mathew you can tell that the writer speaks of Matthew of he or him. There is absolutely no data that supports the notion that Mathew and John were disciples of Jesus. This is a view only held by Christian fundamentalists like yourself. Jesus disciples spoke Aramaic and even though they might have spoken so Greek, they could have not written books in Greek, most of them were actually illiterate.
@@funk31624 Apparently you are unaware of the actual current academic position on the subject. Most scholars believe that christ was probably a historical person but no credible historian can say that he certainly was and the reason for that is that there is very little extra biblical evidence for him. I'm sure that you think there is but there's not. Historians can only assign degrees of likelihood, not certainty so your claim is laughable. Fifty years ago, it would be professional suicide for a historian to argue that christ was not historical but now there are many prominent historians who either don't believe that it's the case or that the argument against historicity is strong enough to warrant further investigation. Richard Carrier has a list of forty historians, all PhD's, who fall into this category. Your claim that it's a settled issue is wildly false. I know that because of your world view you will be unable to accept the reality but reality is not contingent upon your personal beliefs.

I notice the number of Wes's youtube subscribers skyrocketed thanks to Billy Carson lol
hey wes what’s your opinion on marcus aurelius and his meditations book?
I would love to see you go through PHD Richard Carrier's claims that Jesus did not exist.
Looking for the rogan huf podcast and can't find it.
Hasnt released yet, probably tomorrow or thursday. Rogan doesnt usually sit on episodes for too long
So apparently because she left a cult that means that she's now a historian :/
Ya man... Jesus walked the earth as a dude for sure! Many of the best historical proofs aren't even in the bible! I wonder if these Rogan people ever heard of the Alexamenos Graphito... just one of many examples.
God bless you Wes
It’s crazy how people can just lie about history when it comes to Christianity
When compared to a modern police report Luke's preamble is amateurish. Who did he interview? When did he start his investigation? What documents did he study? Did he investigate the crucifixion location? Did he investigate the resurrection location? Did he look for additional witnesses? We don't know because Luke did not document any of these basic questions.
Who else is back watching anticipating the JRE episode 😂

THANK YOUUUU
Greetings to you. I have a general question about the name of Jesus. I believe he existed however I struggle with one thing.
Why was his name translated to become Jesus instead of his given birth? Especially if The letter J didn’t exist when he was born.?
I may not be the only one who thinks about this fact.
Another question. Did Adam and Eve have bellybuttons?
Can't be sketchier than the Emerald Tablets of thout. 😂😂
I think the biggest problem we have : is the lack of contemporay eyewitness outside the bible . Does anyone have good sources . Thanks
If you warched the video, you would know that during ancient times, they don't emphasize writing that much except maybe when you're royalty and did somerhing great or outrageous to stand out. And even then he might not even be mentioned. How mich more with Jesus who may be perceived as a carpenter's son coming from a small town that proposed a new religion.
@@charlesboles9307Who would you expect to be contemporary eyewitnesses? The elites who sought to have him executed under the false accusation of insurrection? Or the common people of the time, the vast majority of whom were illiterate? The gospel authors are held to a much higher and impossible standard (as illustrated in this video) than other historical figures.
We have no idea how much of the gospels were compiled from eyewitness testimony. Just because the books are named after Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John doesn't mean they were the source of 100% of the material therein.
Some are just faithless. Just because it's daytime I have Faith that the stars are still out, even though I can't see them. Duh.
Wes , if we were to cast doubt on Jesus, can you repeat that sentence and tell me what’s wrong with it ?
Not a Carson fan, but this guy is Billy Carson in Reverse…. You can have him.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 gladly! I'll pray for you
30year is the minimum…
I would rather believe someone that lived a hundred years after Jesus than someone doing a documentary that lived 2000 years after Jesus.
Why believe any of them?
Why believe a religion that was created by stealing stories from other religions…
Plagiarism much? 😅
Poor Wes has to jump through hoops to convince people to believe…
That’s the grift 🤷🏻♂️
You either buy it or you don’t…
Why believe a a random UA-cam comment making fallacious claims about a topic that has been thoroughly debunked by the majority of scholars?
There will be books in the future about the “current jesus” in russia who’s currently in prison.
Joe isn’t an apologist or atheist. He doesn’t know the meanings of historicity. You are taking advantage of this fact. I agree that isn’t fair.
Anyone listening to a 5’ podcaster deserves it.
Great. Mark may have been an eyewitness though and included himself in the narrative in Mark 14 😊
True but the question is do you know the earth is flat?
Why do people have to go to the extent to prove Jesus lived? and not with god.
Did he just say that Luke and the other was Reporters asking queation about Jesus. Yeah its sound like that
Interesting!
Don't mess with the Wes!
In ancient days Roman’s and Greek had no literature or mathematics. They learned from the people in Egypt when they invaded them so my question is why is “” Jesus “”is not depicted inside the pyramids. Historically dating the pyramids are subjectively is the oldest building structure on the planet why didn’t these people recognize him the creator Son. It can be argued that “”Jesus”” is Horus the son of Osiris
Yes
What’s your thoughts on the book of Enoch?
If you can make a video to help some of us understand about the book of Genesis. I was reading about the epic of Gilgamesh and how it relates to a lot of the Old Testament stories of Adam and Eve and Noah. I feel like out of the entire Bible, the only thing we should believe is Jesus is real and he came to save the world. But on the other half, some stories were taken and changed from other ancient texts. Can you help? Thank you!
I have a video on the Noah/Gilgamesh connections here ua-cam.com/video/FIfZWvQzeII/v-deo.htmlsi=e45UO5sS-u7RZM7S
I agree... but even Jesus was changednin the Bible.
There is veryl little independant sources that can canfirm Jesus was a real person. There is not any good evidence for Jesus , its mostly all heresay.
is it Yeshua ben Yoseph
Or his birth August 21st is not in any books but one but if scholars don't no this
Socrates was right
It's really hard for me to see this guy as anything more than an AI actor. He spends way too much time on body building or is AI. They always wear those kinds of t shirts and act like they know what they are talking about but never really say anything. That's all there is on YT anymore. You can't have a body like that without deception or drugs.
For the algorithm

And the empire absorbs new cultural And the next empire to rise wil do same and vice bersa
Dude.
Wes has an agenda to sell, he's not gonna cover those facts
I think he's reason for referencing them is to highlight that secular scholars, even those somewhat antagonistic to Christianity like Ehrman, can't deny him as a historical figure. Also, Ehrman's "public," work, like Misquoting Jesus, has long been slanted as anti-Christian to the point that his scholarly work sometimes comes into conflict.
@@EIA-Observer True , Ehrman's book " Did Jesus exist " was to make a point to the mythic community , who state " the historical Jesus did not existed . Bart Ehrman is a former christian theologian , Albert Schweitzer was a christian theologian and missionary . They both believe in the historical Jesus but not the theological Jesus .
Wow
Nazereth wasn't a place when the jesus character was said to be alive. Or so I've heard??
It’s all hear say.. no matter what document you think you read..we wasn’t there when the people write. Literally going off topic f what an old text said from thousands of years ago. It’s ignorant and arrogant to make a bold claim saying “this is all true”
Rogan has the IQ of pair of flip flops.
Keep up the good work brother Wes, God bless.
please lady dont talk about Jesus unless you know, YOU MAKE US ALL LOOK BAD EVEN IF YOUR INTENTIONS ARE GOOD
Jesus was just an ordinary man
Come on...
Did you watch the video completely? Or U just read the thumbnail?haha
@@mchappy7185 yep. Certainly did. HA. HA.
Why?
@WesHuff go debate with Ammon Hillman please, but I guess you’ll never do this lol
It's like you are having a bible scholars shopping!!! You just choose which one or two to belief in!!! Hahahahah
Cant a historical scholar seriously who thinks the disciples actually wrote the Bible.
How i wish wes could go on rogan
Sketchy would be optimistic. There's next to no evidence for Jesus.
😂😂😂😂😂 wow we found someone who's smarter than every other scholar and historian! 😂 I'll pray for you.
@ So you’re under the impression that it’s the consensus view among scholars and historians that Jesus was definitely a historical person?
@torreyintahoe it absolutely is
@@funk31624 Apparently you are unaware of the actual current academic position on the subject.
There is no evidence from a people who kept meticulous records.
Which people?
For reference, the vast majority of ancient texts are lost forever.
😂😂😂 Wes please do a video on the whitewashing of the image of christ. Specifically his european lineage. Maybe a good Segway onto Lachish Relief. I've never see any so call white scholar even mention it. The Relief clearly depicts the israelites or (Judeans). A scholar such as yourself should have no problem explaining why they look nothing like the individuals claiming to be their descendants today.
Joe Rogan is dumb

@@WesHuff That is important to people who think they are flesh and blood because that is how they think they know the truth.
But Jesus said, '“Judge not by appearance, but judge with right judgment” John 7:24
I'm not going to argue the point. The process of being born again to know and act from the truth is one that everyone will enter into when they want to be happier and more effective.
