Thank you SO much, Billy Carson!!! What a treasure you have revealed to me and my friends. We can’t get enough of Wes Huff!
Your comment about the Bible not being written TO us but absolutely FOR us is spot on ! Studying God’s Word with context and original audience firmly in our understanding is VITAL !!! Thank you brother…keep advancing the Kingdom !!
Right. There are messages we need to interpret based on what the original audience would understand, but God in His wisdom also made sure that no matter when you lived, you could gain wisdom from the entire Bible.
Yes. And it’s something the late Michael Heiser used to say as well as the comments about original audience
@@mattm7798Very true too many ppl think the bible is ABT them instead of learning from what is taking place. They think scenarios apply to them and ignore the actual ones that is applicable to anybody

Get yourself a good Hebrew Greek Lexicon take some Hebrew and Greek classes and get yourself a good Messianic Bible teacher that can explain language culture history and context to you. Plus we must never forget how good God truly is. Once you start diving into the stuff and learning some other things become blatantly apparent and start jumping off the page at you❤🎉
@sheriedwards362 we're all theologians to some extent, or at least we're called to be. King David wasn't a scholar, He was a man w a heart after God and a man made to be a King. Not everyone has the time to devote their hours to scholarship like Wes, and not everyone is called to. God uses everyone differently, some being pastors, scholars, evangelist etc.. I never used to feel peace with contents like this there just used to be something off about it. But I have felt peace listening to you. I can't wait to dig deep into all your videos. Thanks for allowing God use you ❤️❤️❤️
Several questions: Isn't the Serpent introduced as the shrewdest beast of the field? And if he was a beast of the field, wouldn't Adam have given him his name earlier and knew him? And is this why Paul says Adam was not deceived by him in 1 Tim 2?
Yes, it seems like it was the most intelligent animal that God created next to Man? God did tell them to stay away from it so I believe he knew the trouble it could cause? Take care
One other thought. To me it seemed like Adam didn't want to be alone so he cursed himself for Eve. But in Jesus' case, he had a better plan to die for us so we could live.? Take care
@@muppetonmeds My thought goes another way, nothing dogmatic. Since Adam was "with her" when she reached out to take the fruit why didn't he stop her since it was forbidden and eating it brings death? That was negligent beyond an oops. Maybe he wanted her to go first and listen and watch what happened before he tried. Since he wasn't deceived, he was deliberate in taking it.
@@muppetonmeds I have a different thought, but am not dogmatic. Adam was "with her" when she reached out and took the fruit. Why didn't he stop her if he loved her? I think he let her go first to see and hear what would happen since it had the threat of death. He certainly was smart enough not to go first and risk dropping dead on the spot. He was not deceived into eating it like Eve was, he was deliberate in taking it. I think he was curious about why it was called the knowledge of good and evil. When Eve encouraged him to try it he realized she was fine, and he was in on the theft.
Well done. Ancient manuscripts in our language, Thankyou as us mere ones who can’t understand the ins and outs of those ancient writings.
Very interesting and Thankyou to Doreen Virtue for leading me to your site!!

The idea to search how the earlier readers or listeners understood those passages is very interesting. It can sometimes turn your own approach and understanding of a Bible passage upside down. "These were not writen to us but well for us." That makes it even more important nowadays to read and study the Word of God. I have been convinced of it for this last 35 years and the accuracy of it is more and more obvious.

Gross.
Heiser said nonsense like Paul thought semen was contained in hair and so women had to have long hair in order to suck it up into their bodies. He didn't believe in inerrancy. He was wrong about basically everything. The fact that the nephilim and giants are overlooked or denied by others doesn't mean Heiser is right about anything else.
@makobean practically everything you said has either been flat out wrong or an intentionally misconstruing of the academic positions he held.
@@joelmcleay Absolutely not. You're just unfamiliar with his work, then. You really want to challenge me? You need proof that he thought hair contained semen? Judges 1:7 CSB
[7] Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table. God has repaid me for what I have done.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

I recently got Dr. Heisler book, and only about 1/3 of the way through. Its incredible and its making rethink some stuff
Glad Ruslan highlighted you. Interesting answer.
Great video. Was thinking through some of these same questions while working on a translation project of the Biblical story in order to reach unreached people groups ! Thanks for the clarity
That Serpent of old was originally called The Morning Star in scripture says he masquerades as an angel of Light. All of what you said makes perfect sense to me❤
Morningstar is a Babylonian king. Nothing to do with a serpent nor Lucifer.
Interesting that he never appears as an angel of light in the Bible... But he does many times in the Apocrypha.
What scripture specifically? ISA 14:12 is referring to the king of Babylon (ISA 14:3). And 2 COR 11:14 has zero connection to a serpent but to false prophets.
In Isaiah 14 The KJV say "son of the morning" not morning star as these modern New Age bibles does. Because in Revelation 22:16 The Lord Jesus Christ call himself the Morning Star.
@@Rebound703sounds like “morning star” is a title? Bringer of knowledge, Christ being the true light bearer? I dunno, just taking a shot before I do some thorough research

Don't forget the talking donkey
Have you actually that particular text? It's God who sends an angel down to block their path, and then enables the donkey to speak at that particular moment.
That’s not symbolism. But even with the genesis passage , I’m standing down when it comes to this new interpretation
It's still a talking donkey
Figuring out the idioms used really does open up clearer meaning of the Scriptures
I think Adam and Eve could talk with the animals. People have been able to work out that certain sounds of cats have meaning and are able to use the sounds correctly. Also cats and dogs can use buttons to communicate with their owners.
Hi Wes.. could the interpretation be for both a literal snake and also a descriptive narrative of what would happen to the evil one? The reason why i ask is that the scripture described the serpent as being craftier than all the other animals. Angels are created beings and were never described as animals, so im curious. Also, i love your content. i pray you continue to do the work of the Lord. I am learning so much and have invited others to subscribe to your page to deepen their knowledge of the Lord
This comment is spot on. You bring up a very interesting point.
I believe it is a danger to not take the Bible literally and try to interpret it from our vision of the world. The world and our understanding should conform to the Bible and not the other way around.
Sorry, Did I missed the answer?
Yes, at 5:18
This guy never gets to the point. Lol
So pretty much it’s symbolic but take it literally lol what a crack up
@Meta_Uce yes. The reason being is that the images being described have no words to describe them. If you saw something that a word doesn't exist for you use others words that closely resemble what it is that you are trying to describe. Heck, ppl on hallucinogenics have the same trouble describing what they "see".
@@cplbird8179 you also don’t make any sense. You are telling me the word of God has been lost in translation because people cannot describe what they saw?
I love your statement that you take early chapters of Genesis literally and seriously. My default is to read a passage literally unless there is very good and compelling reasons to read it figuratively.
For example, IIRC God is called a mighty tower. Is God literally a stone structure? No.
Whatever the form Satan took in the garden isn't really important to the story nor the message we are to glean from it. We are also told in the NT that Satan can appear as an angel of light, which suggests that he isn't ugly at all, but still retains at least some of his beauty. That said, I love these word studies to help understand God's word better!

Maby is out of topic, but I wander: If God is all powerful and all knowing, consequently he knew what was going to happen! Actually, he created it to be that way!?
He created us with Free Will, which involves a risk that the creation is going to choose to go the opposite way intended. Of course, God knew humans would fall into sin. And He had the plan of a way back to Him even before He created the world. It's all in the Hebrew language, the pure language. Pastor Mark Biltz explains.

If this is an account as old as Adam, the Serpent is not necessarily figuratively named after snakes but snakes later may very well have been figuratively named after the nature and account of mankind’s oldest and most famous enemy.
Adam named the animals before Eve even existed.
@@CharlesJones-wi7tz all 1.5 million of them? That’s naming about 400 a day for 10 years
@whygodisscience No, the basic kinds. There's not 1.5 million kinds and it didn't include marine animals since the purpose was showing Adam he had no mate.
@ my main point was that the Adam story isn’t true. You know holding on to these myths keeps millions of people away from god. Because they think you’re all mad and will believe anything. God really and provable but the myths are obviously myths
God brought them to him to name. God can do anything inlcluding bend time to His own will
I read a book once by Kurt Wise (the paleontologist and Harvard professor / Christian and study of literature). Who stated that the word used in the Bible with a belly, dragging stride. That we don’t know if we’re even talking about a snake, but could almost be any other reptile
Thank you so much, Wes!! Btw, on a very superficial level, I like the red lights! Many UA-camrs have blue, but the red is great!
who or what made that serpent appear to talk? The people of ancient Israel knew of other factors that shed much light on the role of that snake. For example, they knew that although animals do not talk, a spirit person can make an animal appear to speak. Moses also wrote the account about Balaam; God sent an angel to make Balaam’s donkey talk like a man.-Numbers 22:26-31; 2 Peter 2:15, 16. Can other spirits, including those who are God’s enemies, perform miracles? Moses had seen the magic-practicing priests of Egypt duplicate some of God’s miracles, such as making a staff appear to turn into a snake. The power to perform feats like that could come only from God’s enemies in the spirit realm.-Exodus 7:8-12. Evidently Moses was also the inspired writer of the book of Job. That book taught much about God’s chief enemy, Satan, who lyingly challenged the integrity of all of Jehovah’s servants. (Job 1:6-11; 2:4, 5) Did the Israelites of old thus reason that Satan had manipulated the serpent in Eden, making it appear to talk and deceive Eve into breaking her integrity to God? It seems likely. Was Satan the force behind the serpent? Jesus later referred to Satan as “a liar and the father of the lie.” (John 8:44) “The father of the lie” would be the author of the first lie ever told, would he not? The first lie is found in the serpent’s words to Eve. Contradicting God’s warning that eating the forbidden fruit would end in death, the serpent said: “You positively will not die.” (Genesis 3:4) Clearly, Jesus knew that Satan had manipulated the serpent. The Revelation that Jesus gave to the apostle John settles the matter, calling Satan “the original serpent.”-Revelation 1:1; 12:9. Is it really far-fetched to believe that a powerful spirit person could manipulate a serpent, making it appear to talk? Even humans, though far less powerful than spirits, can perform baffling tricks of ventriloquism and create convincing special effects.
I'm not sure why you're so adamant about this but check Genesis 3:1
All the beasts could speak back then. The “serpent” was more like an Asian dragons. Floating tiny legs, same thing America is named after. Land of the feathered of plumber serpent is what America means. They used to call it quizictol or however you spell it. Same serpent that washed up on shores of India and has been worshipped ever since as Kundalini.
Earth was very different back then, many creatures we call myths today.
@@codymadison9993 Sounds plausible . The Serpent was more like a Dragon , which Satan is referred to as both .? I think I read somewhere in a extra Biblical book that the animals could talk before the Fall or the Flood . Might have been Jasher , maybe Jubilees or the book of Noah ?
The snake is the character of this spiritual creature it can also be in us, most of the Word is trying to teach us our mindset and behavior and Praise God !!🙌🏾Jesus taught us how to live it❤🙏🏾💪🏾
You say the serpent was "The author of the first lie ever told"..... reading the Bible again, it appears that the Serpent did not lie. Adam and Eve did not die on the day they ate the fruit.
Ancient forbidden wisdom and craftiness. Great description.
Thank you and God bless you
Snake- forked tongue: Speak on both sides- double speak/conflicting/deceptive. Venom;slow death: lies/manipulation/gaslighting
That point about taking the Bible seriously as opposed to simply literally describes so much where my theology tends to be these days.
Love your videos my brother in CHRIST
God and Satan are like weird pals they make bets, troll people, and talk shit about each other but deep down love each other.
You need help
It has been my understanding that, in Isaiah 14, the prophet was speaking to the ruler of Babylon-not Lucifer, the devil, or Satan. Rather, the passage refers to a flesh-and-blood ruler: the king of Babylon, and possibly even the ruler of Babel and the Tower of Babel. The latter point, however, is purely my own speculation.
I was studying the Bible and i realized satan walks around like a roaring lion seeing who he can devour and Adam was made from dust. The snake in the garden was told to eat the dust of the ground. The Old serpent eats mankind from what I see.
Literally and figuratively, I like it! Thanks for taking the time to unpack this.
Because language wasn't used the same back then. Ancient language words had different meanings behind them than today. Before written language there was only oral language. Which makes a difference in how we communicate and how we define what words mean or describe. We make the false assumption that words should be read and applied the way we do today.
My understanding(Mostly from reading Heiser) is that “The satan” in Job is not the same as the serpent in genesis or the devil. That “the satan” is a role, similar to how an angel is a role and not ontological, and that role is to be the prosecutor, or challenger. This role is being fulfilled by a member of God’s council. It seems like Wes has a different opinion from a few of the things he said here. Obviously Wes is much more knowledgeable than me. I would love to hear his or any of your thoughts on that passage in Job talking about “The Satan”.
It stands to reason that the serpent wasn't a snake in the sense that we know snakes. I don't think God cursed a snake to crawl on its belly if it already crawled on its belly. Therefore, the serpent must have been in a different form. Nor is it figurative language since the events of the Fall are literal. Satan could also have been possessing or influencing the serpent since we see Satan elsewhere in scripture, not in the form of a snake.
the thing is that scientists have found that there are little stubs on the snake that could've once been legs which checks out
There is a belief that snakes had wings and could fly. In one ancient text it refers to flying fiery serpents. It sounds as if God punished the serpent for allowing itself to be used for evil and was cursed to crawl instead of fly.
It was a reptilian, that's why. Anunaki reptilian.

@WesHuff . First of all thank you for your video. I believe there should be glossary or list characters describing who is who and their roles past , present and future. Or else it's hard to follow.
3 John 2 KJV
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
You can go the route of “shinning one” if u want, but then you have to use that consistently when God calls him a dragon, sea serpent, viper, flying serpent, along with all of his followers being vipers.
Satan is likely “the snake” the same way Jesus is “the Lamb” seen in revelation.
Wes can you tell us about the additional books the Catholic Bible uses?
Not additional books. The protestants even included them originally until much later to match the Canon that the jews decided after Christianity started growing. The modern protestant Canon shifted away from traditional church canon and led to the Roman Catholic Church to hold a council to finally decide to formally say what are the books in canon.
So they didn't add any books, it's more accurate to say the protestants stopped including some books.
Thank you for that lair who introduced me to such an amazing brother.

1. I read some (most) of the book of Adam and Eve. Could you talk about this book like you have talked about with the others? Origins, author(s), parallels, etc. Thanks!
2) Also, the story of Sampson and the other Judges. Sampson always read to my heart as I struggled with similarities and it always fascinated me that these Judges seemed more than just a normal humans. If you can just expand on it the story and the origins and maybe any hidden parallels that I may have missed in my Bible studies would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, @Wes Huff!
I think it was even triple entendre as not only it means shining or brightness and serpent but also wise.
I saw a vision of Satan in the Garden of Eden and Satin was an actual snake but with a very attractive head and face. So attractive that anyone would be drawn to it. Was the vision real, or was I dreaming? It was as real as real can be. I also had a vision where I met God. I can tell you that God is love. I could go into great detail, but it would be a book. These visions took place when God was working heavily in my life in 2009 and 2010. God gave me miracles, visions, and warnings. I could go on but rest assured Satan can appear to be anything at any time so be careful out there. God Bless You and Keep You!
Hiya Wes! You're the one who took down the old mocker. I learned of Billy Carson back in summer of '17. He spoke about aliens and crazy scientific finds. I'm a fan of the supernatural you know.
When he kept talking about Jesus like a no good joker. I was offended. Nothing he said waiverd my faith in Christ, it's apart of me now and before I remembered.
Can you explain why the “snake” was referred to as a beast then?
Was it?.. 🤔
“Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?”
Genesis 3:1 KJV
The Serpent (Seraphim aka angelic being) was more wiser, cunning, crafty, than any beast of the field…..
So he wasn’t referred to as being a beast; but basically the statement is Satan’s or craftiness or wisdom was being compared to the beast of the field and how they function… does that explain your question?
Or it could be said like this Satan was more crafty than any wild beast of the field…. Hope that helped I know it can be confusing and frustrating
What about the Gen. 3:1, where it says, "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field the Lord God has made"?
Would this not indicate that the serpent was a literal serpent? If not, why compare it to the other beast of the field?
Then Eve in Gen 3:13 blew the serpent for being deceived.
In Gen 3:14, God curses the serpent more than any cattle or beast.
I think people get too caught up in the fact the serpent spoke. We don't know how the serpent spoke or maybe, it was just that Adam and Eve, in their created and not yet sinned state, could actually understand the beast of the field, not that the animals spoke whatever language Adam and Eve spoke.
The snake has always been a symbol of human wisdom (as opposed, I presume, to wisdom that is divine). Also don't know if it was meant to convey anything but always thought it was curious that Eve was said to be composed from a rib of Adam, while a snake is almost exclusively rib.
As the Bible says in James 3:13-17: Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
I always thought Adam’s mind was the serpent. It’s giving a description of Adam’s character at that time after he fell.
Not anything like what it says...
I would mostly agree but there is one particular verse in Is. 65:25 I think you would find to be on interest. In the new earth it describes the serpents eating dust along with the lions eating straw.
I'm sure he knows full well about that verse. He intentionally didn't mention it. People just soak up everything he says. My red flags went up after he took a dump on the KJV in one of his videos.
@ I’d be hesitant to affirm that he knows of this verse, just because someone is well studied doesn’t mean they know everything.
I have a KJV as my personal study Bible, but I don’t believe it to be the only Bible people can use. I think it’s a good idea to compare multiple literal translations to get the best understanding during study. But if you need to give a short Bible study or preach to the general public, it is better to use a version that is simple for people to understand. This way people don’t think you are just speaking gibberish when you are using proper English haha.
Edit: to clarify, people do not use proper English anymore, so if you want to reach them sometimes you need something easier to understand. Sometimes it’s even a good idea to use a kid’s Bible, so the concepts are super dumbed down. Then once they have the milk hopefully you can get into the meat of the Word.
Satan was in the garden of eden “You were in Eden, the garden of God” (Ezek. 28:13)
God used Billy to bring us to this wonderful channel to gain more knowledge
That's a pretty cool way to look at it I suppose.
Yo Wes, a debate with you and Bart Ehrman would be fire. James White was not really able to refute him and became angry at him hh. But maby you could continue to talk about the points they disagreed on. ;)
Good stuff Wes. Keep it up.
My thoughts about satan eating dust throughout his time, is metaphorically referring to dead flesh, as in those not spiritually alive, for from the dust man came and to the dust man shall return. By order of God’s law, mankind has authority over all the earth. Mankind also has creative power through voice, being created in the image of God, and God having spoke creation into existence. So in order for Satan and the beings that follow him in rebellion to exercise power upon the earth, he must coerce mankind to speak his will. Which is why we shouldn’t judge, slander, gossip, stir strife, and so on, but rather speak life. This is also why James was so specific about taming the tongue, not giving place for evil to come forth from the mouth of creative force. Likewise, Jesus stated by our words we will be justified, and by our words we shall be condemned. I’m not as learned as you, but from my studies, it makes sense to me. Blessings
I'm 3 years late... but just wondering what the Greek word ὄφις adds to this conversation when referring to Satan as that ancient serpent in Rev. 20:2. Does that change the perspective at all?
Hey wait a minute. Why is Jesus also referred to as the Morning Star in Revelation 22:16? Are Jesus and Lucifer the same person? Hmmm.......
Because the NIV is a terrible translation from ancient Aramiac and Hebrew to modern English.
If it's literally a snake, then how is it later cursed to walk on its belly? How did it move before the curse?
Billy, poor Carson.

Most people need real bible studies to unlearn a lot of bible false narratives, humble yourself and be teachable, like the bible says study to show yourself approved onto God. There’s a saying let the bible interpret the bible. 🙏🏾 Wes keep teaching the truth bless you.
It was a method to talk about the yetzer hara. Adam is called “dust” and the serpent is made to eat the dust. The yetzer hara causes one to act like an animal in its instinct of survival and even lower than all animals in some cases. All sin can trace its roots to giving one’s self to this serpent also called “the flesh aka the sinful nature aka the devil.
A serpent may have been crawling on the tree and cause Chava to question what she was told: “not to touch it” and thought it would lead to death. But if a snake can do these things, why not her? She desired to be an Elohim and know all things.
The battle between seed could be understood as the inner turmoil battling the yetzer hara and the yetzer hatov.
A lot of unknowns about this section of scripture.
From the book of jubilees
And on that day was closed the mouth of all beasts, and of cattle, and of birds, and of whatsoever walks, and of whatsoever moves, so that they could no longer speak: for they had all spoken one with another with one lip and with one tongue. And he sent out of the Garden of Eden all flesh that was in the Garden of Eden, and all flesh was scattered according to its kinds, and according to its types unto the places which had been created for them. YOVHELIYM (JUBILEES) 3:29-30 את CEPHER
What bible verses uses dust as a metaphor for hell?
Some of us been here before the Billy debate God had my boy in the back of the desert like David training
What happened to the Genesis 1:27 humans? How were they affected by the fall of man, or were they just practice for God before he made A&E?

Great stuff. So many well meaning believers fail to properly exegete passages like this. That often leads to lots of wacky views that really dull the theology the bible is trying to present. A friend at our little bible study asked "why did God say have no other gods before me if there aren't any?" I responded "that would make as much sense to curse a snake to the ground where it already lived."
The serpent in the garden said to Eve if you eat it you would not surely die. But the Lord God said to Adam if you eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you will die. So who lied the serpent or Lord God? And what kind of God curses?
New subscriber, Praise Jesus! and a special thanks to billy carson for confirming a lot.
