If I said Harry Potter really flew on a broomstick please pay attention to the sorcerers stone page 67. Would that provide any validity to my statement? Wes says the infancy narratives are unreliable because they are written after Jesus is dead and had cultish followings in its aftermath. What an ironic thing to say. 1 minute later he quotes Matthew and holds him to none of the scrutiny of the infancy narratives. Wes just automatically assumes he is reliable. He mentions none of the scholars who debate the authorship of Matthew or the fact his gospel was also written after Jesus was gone or the fact there were many more cultish denominations that arose in the wake of various changing texts even stemming from “reliable” gospels. The gentleman above used critical thinking to show where aspects of Christianity showed up previously before. He is way closer to the truth than you. Wes’ little side eye glances when referencing Jesus to anything from eastern culture says everything. Jesus didn’t go to India because you don’t want it in your narrative. Period. There are contradictive records of Jesus, because some people had problems with the true Jesus and therefor fabricated their own Jesus. It helps todays sceptics to deny Jesus as well. They call us Indian Christian’s converts for money and rice bags and sell off.. The racism in India towards Christianity is all time high at the current year and age, especially with the political back up and power of organisations like BJP, VHP, RSS, Christians and faith if Christian’s are all time high risky.. they simple want Christian’s to be terminated and outcasted..
Meanwhile all the west Christian countries are welcoming Hindus and Indian natives to their country and allowing to open temples on large scale and let grow their Hindu religion easily without restrictions, In India on the other hand 300+ churches are destroyed every single year..
This doesn’t surface in any Indian media but you all can search and see the reporting done by some brave people in India to do not support this, just try searching ATROCITIES ON CHRISTIANS INDIA, the results will shock you

About 8:02, you say that Buddhism didn't reach Nepal until the 7th century, so Jesus couldn't have studied Buddhist philosophy there. This is untrue. Siddartha was born in what is now southern Nepal and Buddhism was introduced to Nepal during the Buddha's lifetime, which was several hundred years before Jesus's life. Also, to refute an earlier point made that Jesus would've been the ancient's world's most accomplished traveller... The people that spread out and crossed Asia and then the frozen land bridge to America made their crossing an estimated 23,000-30,000 years ago. Of course there is also the theory. That all humans came from Africa. True or not. But humans traveled thousands of miles probably. Already 50.000 - 100.000 years ago.
It's not that difficult. Just start walking one day, and keep on walking for months. Later with a small boat or canoe it became much easier to travel long distances.

Wes you made many good points, but there are a few errors. I want to point out 2 big ones. They don't change you argument but they don't support it either.
First: As you correctly state, it seems unlikely he would have traveled the many miles between Palestine, which was under Roman occupation, and India. However, there was a massive trade between India and the ancient Roman world going back centuries BCE. India was the source of luxury goods (at and around the time of Jesus), leading Pliny to complain about all Rome's gold going there. The comparison with Alexander the Great isn't a great one(lol) because he went to conquer rather than to trade.
Second, you state the spread of Buddhism to Nepal was centuries AFTER the life of Jesus. In fact, it was centuries before. Buddism is much older than Christianity and had spread across India and far across Asia by the first century BCE.
Given that Buddhism was a major religion (along with many others at that time) and the trade with India, it is not unlikely that Jesus and others in ancient Roman Palestine would come across teachers of Buddhist philosophy.

There’s plenty of evidence Jesus Christ made the journey at 12 years young to India to visit the 3 wise men from the East who were at His birth in Bethlehem. I don’t know why Christians find this so hard to comprehend. Even the word “Amen” comes from the Sanskrit “Aum.” Christianity is more similar to Hinduism than it is different. Unfortunately, Christians are too arrogant to even research into this topic. The evidence is there for those who want to know the Truth.

Hinduism isn't polytheistic. They believe that gods are only forms and appearances of the one, all-pervasive Brahma. The real distinction isn't about how many gods there are. It's duality (us and God separate) vs non-duality (all pervasive God that includes us). Elohim is a plural word btw, so you get polytheism in the creation myth in the bible too. Good luck on your journey of self-discovery.

@petervermeer.4904 Luke 2:39. When they had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of "Nazareth."( Not India)
      40. And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.
(He was already filled with wisdom not by visiting India or doing any Indian ritual. And this is happening in "Nazerath".
      51. And he went down with them and came to "Nazareth"(Not India), and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.
      52. And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and man.(He was increasing in wisdom and favor of God and man, didn't needed the travel to India for enlightenment)
Aftter his Baptism when he started his ministry:
Luke 4:16 He went to Nazareth(not India), where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him.(It was regular custom for him to stand up read in synagogue, nobody can just stand in synagogue and he was known as wise and worthy of reading a scroll. Even today you can't just enter a synagogue and start reading or preach. The custom was not of india but a Jewish custom.)
Matthew 2:19 After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel(Not Egypt, not India), for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”
21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel(Not India)
23 and he went and lived in a town called "Nazareth."(Nazerath is called his own town since his birth time till he began his ministry. If there were any records of him travelling outside Israel they would have been written in atleast one gospel or say any New testament book. But you see there is not even a single verse about it, its always been "Nazerath."
Mark 1:9 At that time Jesus came from Nazareth(not India) in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.(He did not take a trip to yoga land for enlightenment but was in Nazerath before beginning his ministry)
If he went to India and learnt their teachings he would have mentioned Karma and reincarnation. His teachings contradict all those eastern traditions. Pretty clear verse as follows:
John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.(Salvation is only through Jesus not karma not, good deed but who believes in son)
John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.(There is no cycle of reincarnation but its directly an eternal life)
Luke 11:24 Empty heart and mind is a place for demonic possession.( The indian traditions, yoga/meditations, Buddhism all those teachings tell you to empty your heart and mind. But Jesus here says it brings more demons. Another classic contradiction).
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:( Jesus talks about one God not many gods and goddesses but one true God.)
John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.( New age, eastern teachings preach there are many ways to attain salvation but here Jesus clearly contradicts them all and yes I am the only way.)
Every Travel that Jesus did had a purpose whether its Egypt, capernahum, Galilee, Nazerath, Jericho, etc. And they have been mentioned in all four gospels. I'm sure if he ever travelled to India atleast one of them would have written about it or say any historian like Josephus would have accounted it. Travelling to India would never help in fulfilling his purpose to take world's sins, die on cross and ressurect to give eternal life.

@@thomashoppes8594 I live in India and have seen and even part of their festivals like Diwali and holi, offcourse not the worshipping the idols. Why did their God needed so many different avatars and still couldn't fulfill a particular purpose. Jesus came down once and he fulfilled every single purpose of salvation till eternal life. The Gods that they have are just fallen angels and that is why they have "Sura" and "Asura". The practices that Hinduism include around me is worshipping a demon spirit which they call Maa refering mother. These spirits help them gain financial and other needs. So if their needs are not fulfilled they would even kill one of their family members which is the work of demon. On the contrary, Jesus's teachings where about grace, love and salvation. Elohim has been clear through out the bible, the spirit moved on the waters, the father was there in old testament and whenever God appeared to humans say Daniel's fire or Moses etc. it was always Yahshua(Jesus). During Jesus's Baptism, the Elohim was seen together father said, spirit came and Jesus was baptized. We need not to do self discovery, Jesus said he came to find the lost , he found us when we were still sinners. I'm happy that I'm found by him.

There’s so many things wrong with the idea it’s mind-boggling, but one I find especially amusing is that Britain was outside of the Roman Empire at the time. It would have been ridiculously hard just to get there, never mind issues with logic, logistics, theology, and Jesus’ entire way of operating. The story I heard of Joseph of Arimathea going there later on is also insanely unlikely, but by the mid 40’s AD it would have at least been part of the Roman Empire instead of a completely foreign land.

There was no mistery of the lost years of Jesus life from 12 years old to 30 years old . The Bible clearly says where Jesus was during that period . Luke 2 verse 39 : When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. Jesus was in Nazareth . Verse 40 : And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him. Jesus did not go anywhere but stay in Nazareth . As He is the Son of God , grace of God was on Him and due to the grace He grew healthy and God gave Him wisdom and knowledge . Luke 4:16 : He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read. Jesus grew in Nazareth , not grew in other places , let along going abroad either to India or England or somewhere else . Mark 6 : 1- 3 : Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Jesus was well known to his neighbours and the people of Nazareth as a carpenter , just like his human father Joseph who was also a carpenter . If Jesus was away for years and not seen in his hometown , it would have been mentioned by the people in his hometown . From these verses it was clear that Jesus did not go anywhere but stay with Joseph and Mary in Nazareth , grew there , become a carpenter and well known by the people there before starting His mission of salvation ...

Sure, or he could have walked to Spain. You’re sort of missing the larger points here, which are 1. The whole story of him going to India was made up by one person with zero basis in reality, evidence, or history, 2. Jesus showed zero evidence of having learned from any Hindus or Buddhists, and his only reference to anything resembling either was to teach his disciples not to pray using chants like the heathens do, and 3. Jesus’ teaching refutes and opposes anything like a caste system, monasticism, reincarnation, the use of idols…I could go on…4. There’s no reason either Jesus or anyone in his family would go there. You can pretend anything you like, but you can’t present your imagination as evidence.

      @HistoryNerd808 Місяць тому +5

There's no indication that He did anything like that early on though. For instance, in John 6:41-42, the Jewish leaders reject Christ because they knew Mary and Joseph. If they were that close with His parents, wouldn't they've surely known if He had performed miracles as a young boy or traveled a great distance? That ling of a trip was a months if not years-long endeavor in those days, not a plane trip like today. It's most likely that He was still in Nazareth, not sinning obviously, but not doing anything notable either. The only thing mentioned of His childhood is that He went to Jerusalem every year and stayed in the temple on Passover talking with and answering the questions of the Jewish leaders, as Luke mentions in Luke 2:41-52. Can't make a trip from India to Jerusalem every year. Not much is mentioned of His childhood because it's not relevant. Aside from the virgin birth and not sinning, Jesus was just being a normal early 1st century Jewish kid.

History nerd that is incorrect actually a trip from the part of the world that Jesus was in as a child he left that area at age 14 by boat it was very common to be able to travel to India on the spice roots of the sea and then of course there's the silk Road which is the way that Jesus travel back in a much longer journey from ages 14 through 29 Jesus was in India Northern India parts of Tibet parts of the Kush which is now Pakistan learning all sorts of spiritual traditions , techniques of achieving god consciousness.he studied vedanta. After his crucifixion he returned to India where he lived to an older age and Thomas followed him there Jesus was an enlightened being a son of God not the son of God

    • @HistoryNerd808
      @HistoryNerd808 Місяць тому +7

@GerardMcwilliams-k4l First, you might be able to be understood better, if you actually used punctuation. As for your argument, you really don't know what you're talking about. The Silk Road did exist but it was to China, not India. It was not 1 cohesive thing(which is why some still prefer to call it the Silk Routes rather than Road) and does not go through India or Pakistan. They were connected to it by several feeder roads but the main Silk Road is much further north, going through what now is Iraq, Northern Iran, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and countries like that. In other words, Central Asia. Secondly, nobody traveled the entire overland route, that would've been a long, long journey in those days when the fastest mode of travel was a guy on a horse. It was a series of exchanges and middlemen. It was not a road like how we think of the term today or some Am-Trak rail line but a trade route. It's 2000 miles to from Israel to Pakistan and 3500 to India. That'd be a long journey even today.
As for the Maritime Silk Road, it was not an extension of the overland road. You're also contradicting yourself by claiming he took the maritime route and then studied in Pakistan which is nowhere close to the maritime road. You're right in the sense that people did often travel the whole maritime route, but the traders were the only people who did. Just like the overland route, it was not a travel enterprise but a trade one. Also, both routes, while safer than the other paths, were still incredibly dangerous due to bandits/pirates, bad weather, political instability, etc. Regular people simply would not make that trip, especially not the poor and middle classes(such that it existed) doing it for fun, much less for years in an unknown potentially harmful environment. Average people just simply couldn't afford that.

The Buddhist Equivalent to “Love Your Neighbor as Yourself”
    1. Metta (Loving-Kindness)
Metta is often translated as unconditional loving-kindness or benevolence.
It is the sincere wish for all beings to be happy and free from suffering, without any expectation of reward.
The Metta Sutta (Discourse on Loving-Kindness) states:
“Just as a mother would protect her only child with her life, even so let one cultivate a boundless love towards all beings.”
This teaching encourages practitioners to extend loving-kindness equally to themselves, their loved ones, strangers, and even their enemies.
In essence: Love others as deeply and unconditionally as a mother loves her child.
    2. Karuna (Compassion)
Karuna refers to the ability to feel deep empathy and compassion for others’ suffering and to act to alleviate it.
The Bodhisattva Ideal in Mahayana Buddhism is built on the principle of boundless compassion, where one delays their own enlightenment to help others achieve liberation.
    Key Quote:
"May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering."
Just as one wishes to be free from suffering, one should wish the same for others.
In essence: Feel and act upon compassion for others' suffering as if it were your own.
    3. The Golden Rule in Buddhism
While not phrased as a commandment, the essence of “Love your neighbor as yourself” aligns with the Buddhist principle of reciprocity:
"Treat not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful."
    - (The Buddha, Udana-Varga 5:18)
This is often referred to as the Buddhist Golden Rule, emphasizing mutual respect, non-harming, and kindness.
I guess its not completely impossible that a certain someone received inspiration from these

When Did Buddhism Reach Nepal, and Was Jesus Alive at the Time?
    1. When Did Buddhism Reach Nepal?
Buddhism is believed to have reached Nepal around the 4th century BCE, during or shortly after the lifetime of the Buddha (circa 563-483 BCE).
The Buddha's Life and Teachings: Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, was born in Lumbini, which is now in modern-day Nepal. After attaining enlightenment, he spread his teachings primarily across northern India.
Initial Spread to Nepal: Buddhism spread to the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding regions through disciples of the Buddha and trade routes connecting northern India with the Himalayan region.
Key Figures: Emperor Ashoka of the Mauryan Empire (304-232 BCE) played a significant role in spreading Buddhism. Ashoka visited Lumbini and erected a pillar to commemorate the Buddha's birthplace.
So, by the 3rd century BCE, Buddhism was already well-established in Nepal.
    2. Was Jesus Alive at That Time?
Jesus' Lifetime: Historical consensus places the life of Jesus of Nazareth between approximately 4 BCE and 30/33 CE.
Timeline Comparison: Buddhism had already been established in Nepal for several centuries before Jesus was born.
    Therefore:
Buddhism predates Jesus by about 500 years.
By the time of Jesus’ birth, Buddhism was already a significant spiritual and cultural force in Nepal and neighboring regions.

The evidence of Jain influence on Jesus Christ is found both in the New Testament and in the Gospel of Thomas. Early Christianity was an ascetic and vegetarian religion that followed the example of the Gymnosophists, as in Paul of Thebes, Anthony of Egypt, the Desert Fathers, and John Climacus. The Christian monastaries and convents of the Middle East and Europe codified many aspects of Jain monsticism but modified them. Neither of these comments prove or disprove anything. More than one thing can be true at a time. After Jesus' resurrection is most likely when he would have visited India. If that is true, he would be mentioned from that point and on, but not before that. And if Jesus' teachings share universal truths or agreed upon morals, that would also make sense if he is truly a good God. @@OmniGeorge

@ Jesus' teachings as I listed them, such as his teachings on forgiveness, giving up all possessions, celibacy, fasting for spiritual purity (as opposed to pleasing God), and nonviolence are absolutely NOT found in Judaism at the time and are not in the Old Testament. @ The Desert Christian ascetics, such as Anthony of Egypt, Paul of Thebes, John Climacus, and many others were very close to being Jain ascetics right down to their vegetarianism, fasting, and sometimes going completely without clothes, and as I said Jainism was right there near Nazareth in the form of the Greek Cynics and in northern Egypt in the form of the Gymnosophists who heavily influenced Pythagoras and other major Greek thinkers including the Cynics and Skeptics. I don't think Jesus went to India to learn Jainism. Jainism was just next door to where he lived.

Great job and much respect for addressing such a controversial topic. I've tried to have this discussion with many Christians and have been met with much discomfort and negativity. Having read all of the literature on the topic, I also agree this is most likely not what happened. Being a student of Sanskrit and many Hindu traditions of India and Nepal, I do have to add that the idea of devotionally based worship of a singular god, loosely described as Bhakti (devotion) traditions, is certainly very prevalent. The most prevalent one being that of the devotees of Krishna, or Rama, but in dozens of other traditions as well. Buddhists are kind of the atheist outsiders so it's not a great comparison with a spiritual tradition focused on the devotional worship of god in the form of a man, which there are many Hindu traditions that are very similar. These are dualistic traditions, man has a soul in the image of a singular god, god is transcendent to creation, and through worship, grace and blessings are gained through direct relationship. Comparing these traditions with that of the message of Christ would be more honest...but much more controversial...and I don't blame you for avoiding it. I don't want to go there either!
In order to address this theory head on as honestly as possible, you must also mention not only the 1887 Notovitch text, but the much harder to brush off account of Swami Abhedananda's trip to that very monastery visited by Notovitch, in his trip documented in the book Swami Abhedananda's journey into Kashmir and Tibet (1922). As a disciple of the well known Ramakrishna, and in high standing himself, took the journey to find out the truth and discovered that the monks corroborated the account of Notovitch, and he translate the texts, which also were in line with the translations published in 1887. Now, I don't think Jesus did or didn't go there, it makes no difference to me...which makes it easy to stick to the literal texts, and analyze the facts however they may fall. I love ideas, philosophy, and god...all things outside of time, travel, and what may have happened. Of course there are other versions of stores, one saying he died somewhere else in South Asia, and even the story of him making it to Japan where they worship him, and have a grave site they say he was buried at. There's even a lineage of people that supposedly come from Jesus in Japan! What a wonderful world we live in!
I think it's most likely he didn't take the monumental trip. But, are there philosophies that are very similar to his own teachings found in India? Yes of course, many Vedic monks in orange are going to teach you devotion, and many of the same principals, and methods for elevating ourselves beyond our broken and sinful nature. The variations on the theme are in the hundreds, as I'm sure you know. Could he have made the trip? With the trade route, sure. Could a single man traveling light travel further than a king and an army? Of course. Plus...it's Jesus! He walked on water, what needs to be said about sand. These are the details we must address head on, for our young generation has information at the tips of their fingers, and will not wait for us to look for themselves. If we don't address these aspects, it will look like avoidance, indicating dishonesty to an already suspecting youth. I'm quite impressed at your approach and honesty in talking about this. It's only Jesus's life, nothing bad is ever going to be shown no matter where he went or didn't go. God can go to hell and back and it wouldn't tarnish or make a difference in his teachings! May you be blessed in all of your endeavors.

If he walked on water/was already enlightened, why would he need to go to India and learn from Buddhists? I think the idea was that he did not walk on water at those early years and the trip to India equipped him with the said miraculous capabilities.
I also don’t understand the motivation to trust and learn from polytheistic or nontheistic traditions only to apply them and make others believe they come from one God. Sounds like a fraud.
The mental gymnastics you have to go through to make this speculation plausible is just not worth the time and effort.

I experienced a near death awakening in 2019. Afterwards, I researched different religions to see if any were close, and Hinduism / buddhism jumped out. At first, I didn't even research Christianity, because I was raised Catholic and didn't think it fit, but eventually I reread the new testament and was blown away. Everything Jesus was saying and teaching could be interpreted through the lens of oneness and non duality, even repentance. It brought me back to the fold. Of course, if you seek you shall find, so I know you can find any worldview in any text if you look hard enough. But it would not surprise me if Jesus adopted aspects of Eastern Philosophy, although, I think it's more likely that he experienced the same sort of enlightenment they did, and expressed it through the only culture he knew, Judaism.

The argument for miraculous travel is sound since we have examples of this with Elijah and Philip doing it in scripture.
HOWEVER, simply because something is possible doesn't mean that it occured.
(-I could say Jesus miraculously travelled to the moon and spent his teenage years there-)
We need evidence to support every claim but Notrovich's claims are demonstrably false because 1) no one else saw this "gospel of Isa" and 2) the temple that he claimed had the document said they did not and that they never had a Russian visitor.
