I was in my 20’s when he hit the scene and I never laughed more at any comedian than him. His grasp of the English language and his looking at life’s things from a different angle set him apart . Too bad there aren’t comedians like him today.
Saw Gallagher at The Sands hotel in Vegas on May 31, 1991. My wife and I were getting married the next day, and he called us out from the audience about 3 times. He was very funny!
OMG I remember the big couch! The original big comfy couch! I so forgot about it! I was young but loved watching him and my mom would laugh so hard she would cry! Nobody can ever replace him and he will be forever missed. RIP thank you for the memories and laughs. 💜
Kids don't realize that 30 years ago no one had a personal giant trampoline. This was actually a novel idea at one time. They also don't realize that this particular part of his set was already a full hour after he did normal standup without any props. And when the couch came out the background people went nuts because they new something weird had to be coming eventually. It is Gallagher after all.
Pretty cool, I didn't know that about this particular show. He was truly unique. I'm glad I got to watch him on HBO growing up in n the 1980s. I wish could have seen a live show just once but never got the chance. 13 Nov.2022
I'm 35 I remember ppl had personal trampolines.this one is regular size it's just made to look like giant couch.i remember big trampolines in ppls yards not round but big rectangular trampolines
@@paulcollins7030 Ya know that the comment you are replying to, was sent like 11 years ago? So 40 years ago, there were no personal trampolines laying around ppl backyards as ther are now :D Show is from 1983
man got a great hit on that second melon, it exploded outward almost evenly. that was Single Coat, Full Coverage, the whole front row got a complementary fruit cup, sans the cup.
😂🎉❤THIS IS THE SET UP I REMEMBER AS A KID. BIG COUCH SET YESSSSSSSSS!!!! I would record on VHS and later cassette tape. Have his jokes memorize!! (Mini stereo had a built in stereo. Hi tech for a10 yr old in the 80's)😂
"we have a baby now at the house..... alll day long" lmao. This guy was one of the FIRST comedians I ever, EVER saw preform on Comedy Central. Awesome. Haha. My mom would love this guy. Good CLEAN fun for the 50-60+ crowd! :)
An AMERICAN ORIGINAL. He also had 14 Showtime comedy specials, 14 !! Today's comics brag when they get paid to do 3 or 4 over their entire career. Wild
That guy at 1:45 who literally took like 2 seconds before he understood the "joke" and started laughing is the perfect example to describe Gallagher fans
I wonder what he was like in school as a child. "What do you want to do when you grow up?" " I want to crush watermelons with a big hammer and get paid for it."
This was back in the 80's when what he was saying was logical for the times. Anyone who grew up during the time frame, watching him will understand him.
I remember watching this on cable at around 2 in the morning when I was 9 years old and found myself wondering what the hell I was doing with my life..
Ha! I'm 22 years old and a girl thank you. It's my parents, they were from the previous generation then yours I'm sure. It's just that age were you'll always be a kid and watching someone as pure as gallagher be a kid will always tickle the funny bone. You just have to learn to appreciate all styles of comedy and all styles of people. Woody Allen is classic too :3
In 2004, Comedy Central rated Gallagher the 100th best stand-up comedian of all time.[10] Gallagher was displeased with being ranked so low, and he told The Oregonian, "I looked at the other people and I was trying to find anyone I ever heard of. How could I be behind people I never heard of? ... I made 13 one-hour shows for Showtime, which are available on videotape. I invented the one-man show on cable. What a prick.
My GOD!!! Its been nearly 18 years seince I seen this Guy he is one of the Best Comedians in the WORLD!. First time i seen this man I was only 7 years Old!. I would sit with my dad and watch him on HBO waaaaaayyy late at night before I went back to bed dad and I would try not to laugh too damn hard from his best standup commadies and wake up my mom and she would scold both of us LOL!.
@geezusispan and your does you need to understand young man this was back in the 80's it was a different time. There was no PC culture and there weren't pussies who got offended over everything.
Sigh I remember watchin this when I was a kid... Wow I am typing this when I first clicked it I had no idea this was the trampoline couch!!!! I loved watching this when I was younger HAHAHAH I always wanted that couch!!!
I found out that this was made in 1983 (I thought it was made in 1978), so I was like 2, 3 years old when this was made, so yeah, this is of my time. I grew up watching this guy!
I remember this man as a kid watching on comedy central before they were awful and all I remember before I knew Gallagher name was "comedian big couch Zen" and here we are....memories
OK Gallagher did it first with the big couch 🛋️ but years later, this cartoon woman had a TV show and it was called the big comfy couch 🛋️ I’m not sure if that’s based off Gallagher’s big couch 🛋️ but if it is now, you know where it came from
The show that had this big couch was one of the best, but the beginning was better than the couch sequence. I bought 2 of his tapes and was disappointed. The ones I taped myself are the best shows. One tape worked ok and the other one had bad audio and couldn't hear him. I hear he's still performing - hope so. I'm still a fan and looking for DVD's of the good shows.
Saw Gallagher twice and loved it! If you have ever dealt with performers, you will find out they require recharge time to try to get back to some sort of balance. Interuptions to their routine (and sometimes their ritualistic process of getting back in balance) can sometimes prompt an unpleasant outburst. Don't you want to unwind and chill after a tough day at work? Let them do it their way. You got your performance and that is what you paid for when you bought you ticket. Now go home!
One of the greatest stand up comics! What a talent. He will be missed!
I was in my 20’s when he hit the scene and I never laughed more at any comedian than him. His grasp of the English language and his looking at life’s things from a different angle set him apart . Too bad there aren’t comedians like him today.
Were you retarded back then?
Saw Gallagher at The Sands hotel in Vegas on May 31, 1991. My wife and I were getting married the next day, and he called us out from the audience about 3 times. He was very funny!
This is the classic Gallagher bit I was looking for. Thank you for uploading.
He was absolutely brilliant!!
Saw this video over 30 years ago. What a fantastic mind that still makes me laugh!!
OMG I remember the big couch! The original big comfy couch! I so forgot about it! I was young but loved watching him and my mom would laugh so hard she would cry! Nobody can ever replace him and he will be forever missed. RIP thank you for the memories and laughs. 💜
Truly the greatest comedian of all times. You will be sadly missed. RIP Gallager
Love him!! When I was younger I didn't appreciate all of his comedy; but now I do!! Lmao

Who cares he was great!!
Actually I had one.

Funny, thought provoking and clean! I understand he was a good guy too.
Gallagher was and still is a class act.
He's so right! Babies do have you!😂
I remember watching him when I was kid and now as father, my kids and I watch these. Still as funny as it always was.
Went to two of his shows in Salinas, years ago. The last one was the elephant on the high diving board. Great comedian.
Half of my laughter just comes because he is having so much fun just doing sh he has fun doing.
This was maybe his greatest special. It’s awesome. So funny.
Think this was the first comedian/special I ever watched. Guessing I was 8. This takes me way back.
I saw this guy perform he was awesome. There were hecklers and he totally chewed them out.
why in god's name would anyone heckle a man who travels with a 4 foot, 16 pound hammer?! god, people are stupid.
its funny because he come up with the craziest props. i liked what he made.
An AMERICAN ORIGINAL. He also had 14 Showtime comedy specials, 14 !! Today's comics brag when they get paid to do 3 or 4 over their entire career. Wild
This was GREAT!!! Brings back memories, and still makes me laugh to this day!!!

I don't think he ever understood the joke. he just realized he was on camera so he figured he should laugh.
Reminds me of the "my balls" jokes from Idiocracy. But he also had a witty side.
@@stevetyrell8721don't worry, he got it.
Watched dozens of times on HBO in the early 80's.
Loved it.
fuckin boomer
He was on Showtime. HBO had Carlin, Showtime had Gallagher.
you dont know what quality is
I wonder what he was like in school as a child. "What do you want to do when you grow up?" " I want to crush watermelons with a big hammer and get paid for it."
Fuck yea--me too!!
I saw this live. Man, we all would have loved to try the giant couch ourselves! RIP!
The only other comic that made me really laugh since Gallagher was Robin Williams. They were both comedic gold!
That was fun back in the day
R.I.P. Gallagher...one of my favorites.....
GET READY...GET READY...GET READY TO CLOWN AROUND...
The big comfy couch!
I don't understand the insane amount of dislikes, I mean, all he is doing is trying to entertain, no need to hate.
This was back in the 80's when what he was saying was logical for the times. Anyone who grew up during the time frame, watching him will understand him.
@The Wraith To be faaaaaaiiiir, most of the show is missing from this clip.
Boomer humor
Everyone needs to take a moment and laugh 😂.
A brilliant prop comedian!
There's NO ONE like him EVER.
He could not do most of his acts today someone would go nuts
I remember watching this on cable at around 2 in the morning when I was 9 years old and found myself wondering what the hell I was doing with my life..
Enjoying yourself!
Previati haha yeah me too on vh1 back in the day
You had that thought when you were nine years old??
You grew up *way* too fast! 😂
You were living!!!
And here you are watching it again….while wondering what the hell you are doing with your life…
Ha! I'm 22 years old and a girl thank you. It's my parents, they were from the previous generation then yours I'm sure. Gallagher big couch routine was Cirque Du Soleil before its time
In 2004, Comedy Central rated Gallagher the 100th best stand-up comedian of all time.[10] Gallagher was displeased with being ranked so low, and he told The Oregonian, "I looked at the other people and I was trying to find anyone I ever heard of. What a prick.
Yes you are.
My mom used to watch Gallagher when I was little. This transports me right back to childhood.
I saw this special as a kid and this couch blew my fucking mind.
My GOD!!!
Its been nearly 18 years seince I seen this Guy he is one of the Best Comedians in the WORLD!.

Still funnier than Amy Schumer and Colbert
geezusispan if you think Amy Schumer and Colbert are funny you have no brain
@geezusispan and your does you need to understand young man this was back in the 80's it was a different time. There was no PC culture and there weren't pussies who got offended over everything.
This guy is absolutely hilarious how can you not love him
No, it really isn't.
Who actually thinks Amy schumer is really funny?? 😒
Socks removal champion right here
Gallagher was the king of props for comedians
Gotta love Gallagher! This brings back some memories of laughing 'til I passed out! *Don't remember much after, though...*
Just imagine him being your dad. Wonderful,I would think.
i was on the verge of suicide, and then i saw this video and decided i had something to live for. long live gallagher
I hate to admit it...but I thoroughly enjoyed this! Apparently I'm the only one on youtube...! lol, thanks for putting this clip up
Sigh I remember watchin this when I was a kid... Wow I am typing this when I first clicked it I had no idea this was the trampoline couch!!!! I loved watching this when I was younger HAHAHAH I always wanted that couch!!!
ONLY GOD COULD MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH HARDER AND LONGER
That means two minutes and twenty-one seconds of it is how the show would have been if I was the only audience.
It is unfortunate that that damn Sledgeomatic is all he will be remembered for. He was hilarious 😊
My left ear enjoyed this 👍🏼
I found out that this was made in 1983 (I thought it was made in 1978), so I was like 2, 3 years old when this was made, so yeah, this is of my time. I grew up watching this guy!

Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
This guy taught Carrot Top everything he knows about prop comedy.
That’s what’s missing from trampolines.

I saw him live in 1992. His show was two hours and forty five minutes long! And funny all the way through.
Now, there's some value for money!!
that shit came right out of the computer and got me in the eye-----------
this guy came to my grade school back in the 90s best guest at any school event till this day great performer still remeber after all these years
He is hilarious screw all y'all negative comments
Amanda Carter Ikr they are just bandwagoning on the gallagher hate train
Funny, when I saw this on TV i don't remember it being so blurry! Nice going!
Rip Gallager
This is literally a visual representation of how I feel coming home crossfaded af at like 7 am
The big comfy couch with the clown and molly, her dolly
This belongs on adult swim....
I freaked out when I saw Gallgher run on screen on TOSH 4.0 from out of nowhere. Funny stuff!
That looks fun as hell.
Rip Gallagher 🙏
I was like 8 or so when I saw this. I used to laugh my ass off when Gallagher was
Great comic-- and the only one you had to take plastic to go see!
ThE BEST ON THIS PLANET !!! I LAUGH EVERY TIME !!!
I was laughing so hard when he did the backflips on the giant couch trampoline. That was such a funny joke!
Still Love Gallagher! Brilliant writer, and comedian!
RIP, Gallagher 🙏
Gallagher has always been one of my all-time favorite comedians, and I wasn't even born during his time! Less talk, more sledge! LOLz!
What I want is just a normal size couch with that awesome monster puppet so I could have it just randomly pop out at people who sat down.
Live!!
Lucky enough to have been there..
Yep, I sure was 🤣
I just went to one of his shows and had front row seats. Shit definitely went flyin(:
WOW!
Get well soon Gallagher.
I love Gallagher.
..One day...I will get a couch just like that one, but in a different color and fabric. It is gonna be sweet.
The show that had this big couch was one of the best, but the beginning was better than the couch sequence. I bought 2 of his tapes and was disappointed. The ones I taped myself are the best shows. If there has ever been a genius comedian its him
i love his routines god i hope he still does this I want a front row seat
Wisdom from the late Gallagher - potato chips are much larger than blow dryers. RIP, funnyman!
So far ahead of his time!!
Kinda reminds me of this kid's show called "The Big Comfy Couch" where this little girl kept her toys in the crack of the couch.
Must feel like a little kid around that couch
I love Gallagher... love LoVe LOVE GALLAGHER!!!
THANK you for this! ONE HUNDRED STARS! :))
He reminds me of a child so much xD this guy's seriously awesome!
