Yea another fun fact I grew up in Baltimore - and of course love the wire and the corner (mini series) as well as the book homicide: a year on the killing streets - and most of mr simons lectures and other works, being he is a Baltimore native (not born like myself and most of my family) but nonetheless , anyway yea this was based on Donnie Andrews a stickup man who was basically part of the game in the late 70s, through the 80s - did a major stretch of time in prison - he had an aortic dissertion (butchered spelling) back about a year ago he was 62-63 years old give or take at the time of his death, and the thing is - he was married to Francyne Boyd (the lady that is played by Khandi Alexander) on the HBO miniseries The Corner (which IMO as great as the wire is, the corner while lower budget and not as "grand and sprawling" was just as gritty and realistic in many aspects) but denise francyne boyd is her full name she resides in Baltimore county (same as I do) I know the neighborhood (in Timonium, off York road) nice lady met her once, she works for an outreach program (for methadone users, in a clinic up in Baltimore county called TranZpire) I' was on methadone for a few years, I abused heroin for along time (prior to that in high school in the 90s prescription pain killers) so I know the streets of Baltimore, I never "lived" on the streets, or did what these guys did so I wont even pretend but I know that world, moreless the drug culture and what goes into it...from the fiend side of things, as well as the dealer (and if you've ever watched NAT Geos Drug, Inc - they had a recent episode about Baltimore that was ironically nicknamed The High Wire (or the Baltimore heroin hustle) since theres over 60,000 addicts in the city of bmore - and many more in the county...anyway I am a recovering addict (now off methadone and on suboxone in an outpatient program where I live on the Harford county/Baltimore county line) about 30 mins from the city...had a lot of Baltimore city cops in the family too (which as you could imagine was a real conflict during my using years) most of them are retired...but they knew who Oscar Rouquer is (he was a balt city district 7 cop in west Baltimore for 28 years) and he was the inspiration for "the bunk" moreland - just a different name...but yea Donnie Andrews was the "main" inspiration for Omar Little and hes also in the scene (given to omar by his bank butchie) to do cleanup at monks apartment - when they have that little shootout and Andrews character dies in the shootout from a dome shot but in the real life situation where omar leaps from the what 5th level balcony was it ? I heard in real life, Andrews heroic feat (lol) was the 7th level that he leaped from back in 1989 (but it was a 1-on-1 shootout and nobody was killed, except Andrews spent time in prison AFTER being hospitalized is all I do know) and that came DIRECTLY from the source mrs. boyd (her character is the main inspiration for "The Corner" and her son De'Andre Mcullough (who not only PLAYED a small role on The Corner, - but also played on the wire (david simon felt bad for him for years, and kept a repoire with the entire boyd/mcullough family in Baltimore - they lived right in the heart of the drug trade in park heights area (which I am MORE then intimately familiar with not just driving through either) and the thing is, De'Andre played roles on the corner, the wire (and treme despite that being filmed on location in new Orleans) mr simon had a soft spot for de'andre first met him on Pennsylvania avenue/Lexington market sq. (a hot spot for open air drug trafficking in bmore's east/west district its a divided line straight through both of those streets) anyway de'andre was the shoufer or butler (or whatever you would wanna call it - bodyguard for Brother Mouzone) "Lamar" although I was never used to seeing De'Andre as a big overweight man...he was always thin growing up but people do change, in the corner, he was just a fry-cook when his OWN character was coming in to apply for a job and get off the streets and stop slanging dope...so its all funny how it ties in, a lot of david simons characters become inspirations played by actors, and the real life inspirations are ALSO in the shows doing small cameo appearances and then off-screen he keeps in touch with him, but sad news de'andre died about a year ago (or 2) in Baltimore county from a heroin overdose ,only 5 minutes from where I live/have lived for many years - his mother obviously memorializes him every year on his bday not his death - and david simon keeps up w/ the family whenever hes at his home (of which he has one currently in Baltimore county as well) its so close to the city line, but some decent areas around...de'andre McCullough was the SON of denise francyne boyd who was MARRIED for several years to Donnie Andrews who was the inspiration of Omar Little, who also Donnie played a small role in the wire with, as well as his step-son de'andre did as Lamar in the wire, and a fry-cook at a fast food joint in the corner, as well as his mother denise boyd also did an intake rehab program in the corner (a receptionist of some sort) and in real life that's what she really does (only in Baltimore county) so its really neat how it all ties in, theres just been a lot of tragedy though. sad but that's the incontrieveable fact of this life...and what it leads to I should know..and I'm one of the lucky ones, I wasn't born in an area like where they grew up just frequented there (for both good and bad reasons) these shows do really who a certain level of realism and ultra-precise social commentary on the day...but one of my fav characters is Cutty - no only because the actor plays in the walking dead, but because I met Chad Coleman before - great guy
I think the best part about this scene was Omar was more concerned about whether they had Honey Nut Cheerios than all the other drug dealers that were keen on killing him in the joint!
and that Big dude saying, "anybody seen shit" is the Real omar, yo man got a dramatic life story , another man wrote that and Bam! the Wire, Drama of centuries
+James Andrew the funny thing is is that (you know who) people will condemn us and life in the ghetto but that REAL shit captivates them more than all the bullshit in hollywood. Think about it. The Wire, Sopranos and Breaking Bad are probably the top 3 series of all time. Even Sons of Anarchy. They love this gangsta crime shit...with a passion.
I don't even wanna think about it. Anytime I see this scene, it takes me a good 5 minutes before I realize I've been cringing the entire time. Like...how do they even pull that out of someone's butt? I highly doubt painkillers will do a damn thing.
This comment section is gold. Cheers gentlemen. Also, I think Omar would fly solo in Oswald. Dude isn't scared to run solo, isn't a junkie, wouldn't take shit from Adebisi or Burr, and literally marches to the beat of his own drum. I see Omar always staying one up on O'Reilly, maybe playing some cards with the "others", and turning down Said's attempts to turn him to Allah. It would be one of the few times someone doesn't stick to their race.
Omar Little was based Donnie Edwards who passed away in December 2012 ,he had bit part in the series the wire ,you can see bravado in the role .Omar Little's character will be a iconic role for Michael K.Willliams, his depiction was one the most grittier elements of the wire a series filled with the best cast and storylines that would guarantee to keep you a steadfast fan like myself. Now ,Mr. Simon it's time to do a prequel to show how characters involved .The fans are waiting.
+Chris Sams I guess it really depends on what kind of person you are. if you are soft then you're probably rather go to black dolphin because you're not going to be mingling with other inmates but if you know how to handle yourself then of course you would choose the jails here.
"with that kind of money I shoulda done you my own self." - double entendre. These writers are so good in such subtle ways. That's Donnie Andrews, the real life guy who Omar is based on, joking he should have killed him for the price that's on his head but also literally saying, with the money Michael K Williams is getting to portray me, I shoulda just portrayed myself. Hence 'done you my own self'." Genius.
IKR!!! do 'ctrl f' on the comment section of any Wire video and type in "brilliant" or "genius" and u get at least 5 people over analyzing like an AP English class
Strapping thick paper book's must work really well for attempted stabbing's. Damon from "Friday After Next" was even wearing them outside of prison; and in parties. lol
Omar was tha truth......the Wire need a follow up series....10 years later...Michael the new Omar....Kenard moving weight and the new Marlo.......Marlo gone stringer Bell.......Webay and Chris STILL locked up, it would still be dope.
people like you have no imagination, always need to see something on screen. Just drop it. Kenard was arrested for killing Omar at the end of the series, no way he'd be released. Scariest moment of the entire series for Omar is when those two huge dudes show up in his cell. You can see his fear... and relief when they are friends.
Butchie supplied Donnie with the books , tape and cell phone probably via corrupt guards. It's only county holding and none of the two men will be charged with anything beyond a fine and time served in holding.
it's not a supermax prison, people are in there for all sorts of things from talking back to a cop to pissing on a federal building. When Avon was in there there was a riot that killed 5 people, but in general the place is pretty chill.
Only 1 annoying thing about this scene. The guy attacking Omar lost the fight so damn easy, in 2sec Omar had him standing against the wall. They should have done it better.

Absolutely brilliant character. I love the dichotomy of being homosexual in a community that has visceral disdain for gays and anyone effeminate. (I was 18 when I first went to jail and was taught NEVERsay “suck my dick” as the implication is taboo). Omar doesn’t give a fuck. Hell kiss his man in public, calling him a cocksucker doesn’t phase him. Omar is one of the most badass characters IMO because he respects the difference between civilian and game member. (Yes GAME member not gang member- modern gangs have no respect. If you chose to get involved you chose... mob knew this old time thugs knew this but now you see Newark, Trenton, Compton, Chicago dealers robbing and assaulting fiends, hurting folks who have no part... world would be a better place if violence stayed where it belongs; with people who knew what they were getting into. Never Robb the fiends, don’t HURT civilians. At best you can short change an addict as they partially know the game but unless they bring violence or Robb a dealer no addict should be hurt...: they are the customer
that particular scene is funny once you get process you get the jailhouse jump-suit, why you don't were regular cloth there many reason: hiding contraband, drugs or even object to harm yourself also if your waiting for chow you have already been process.
+David White (Troll Destroyer) Makes sense. I just thought he heard the cell door creaking when it was opened so that is why he looked up all guarded. To be fair, both of those dudes are jumbo sized so he probably saw their shadow coming up and darkening his book pages lol.
Omar getting that prison armor put on him LMAO
Good against a shiv.
“Guess you’ve never been locked up huh?!” “Ain’t nothin’ funny Dawgs about shank protocol when your name gets wings on a cell block.... “Trust.
Careful hes been to jail
Is this to make sure that any stabs he gets only make it to the R's?
Ion know why but i always think of iron mans suit coming to him when i see this scrne
Fun fact: the guy who brought in the books was the inspiration for the omar character in real life
could you tell me his name. i wanna see if i can find out something about him because a real life Omar sounds crazy:D
Billal Naseem Donnie Andrews

"Sheeeiiiit..."
Is that street for yes or no? :x

Clay Davis clearly running the cheerio racket in Baltimore
I thought he would like fruity nut cheerios
I think the best part about this scene was Omar was more concerned about whether they had Honey Nut Cheerios than all the other drug dealers that were keen on killing him in the joint!
***** All Omar ever wanted was his Honey Nut Cheerios :(
BJMcB92 One has to wonder how the world of the Wire would have been different had General Mills opened up a Baltimore plant making Honey Nut Cheerios.

The guy that walks in Omar's cell first is the real Omar.
Boshawn Bryant For real?
Donnie Andrews. One of the guys Omar was based on.
Wow,., thanks for letting me know... That's cool🔫🔪
Mind Blown!!!
Real avon is in the show too..
What if bunk couldn't get Omar out and they sent him to Oz
And Rawls/the Colonel. Daniels/Mobay. Herc/Ralph Galino. Cheese/Tug Daniels. Norman Wilson/Querns. Busmalis/Agent Koutris. Burrell/Keane's dad. lol
Saw the SORT team storming in to break up that cafeteria fight

Yh i think the kiss hurt more bro... Damn
For real. At least when they kill you it's a quick shot to the back of the head. That stabbing seemed brutal.
Omar need his Honey Nut Cheerios...

They were like Coppola and the boys in the Godfather movies with the oranges, The Wire/Simon and the writers/director, with these Honey Nut Cherrios.
Lmao bruh
shiiiii

When Omar Said "We could've had a couple of babies" THAT SHIT WAS "CHILLING"
Get Stomped Out *been not had
Then stabbed him in the ass.. they had an unspeakable baby
I like the pissed off look on everyones face when those 2 guys fail to take out Omar lmao
"Who you calling?"
"The police."
"The police!!!!"
"Man owe me a favor."
Man, I don't EVER want to go to jail/prison....fuck that. Don't need any booty warriors coming after me or people stabbing me and shit.

Donnie didn't even say that.. Big man did.....
As a librarian I'm conflicted about the abuse of books in this scene. But Omar was reading, so we cool.
ain't nobody seen shit
This dude wasn't at the screen for long but he has the best sentence of all the TV show history !
Sounds like snnops dad
Thanks for including the opening man.
One of the best intros of the show
Creepy guy from Requiem for a Dream voice "Shiv to Ass, Shiv to asssss!"
LOL
i laughed so hard when asked they got any honey nut cheerios up in here(shiiiiiiiit)
Strapping thick paper book's must work really well for attempted stabbing's. Damon from "Friday After Next" was even wearing them outside of prison; and in parties. lol

Yes and another Snupe it'll be legendary
Dont forget slim charles he gotta be the supplier in there somewhere.
What about Michael ripping like Omar?!
people like you have no imagination, always need to see something on screen. Just drop it.

Ironic that the real life Omar was a pretty big dude
The intro song of this season was the best.
Holy shit imagine being trapped in that cage with all those fucking animals.
It pays to be a reader, kiddies.
I miss this damn show
lol that Kick at the end always make me laugh
That's what he gets for coming at the king.

Jonathan Lee what fear? Gtfoh
There was no fear on his face. He knew who they were.
Fart Yes there was. You didn’t see that scene apparently...
Fart he didn't know who they were he thought they was about to take him out then they told him Butchie sent them
Crazy how Marlo was able to get a hit sent and Avon seemingly controlled prison, but nobody was able to get cops on the payroll.
Fucking Kenard.
Killed the best character on the show. RIP Omar
All the omars where I'm from dead
cant eyeball a jack artist walkin through the hallway
when he put the phone to his ear my phone started ringing, started praying.
Lesson here guy who got shanked in the @zz, you come at Omar, you gonna get kissed
It's a cold world nigga gotta make his own heat.
I don't even really want to know what the lone white guy with the Andy Milonakis physique was in for.
John A S why
Yeah, we pretty much have same tastes. Guessing you’re not
attending this channel anymore but, Thanks!!
Omar was my favorite character
What jail let's booked inmates wear their street clothes.
Eric peppy it’s not federal it’s county it’s different
I Effing MISS THE WIRE !!!!!!!!!!
Omar: “Get me a phone call?”
Guy: “I can do ya one betta den dat”
**hands him a cellphone to make a phone call**....

Lol for real
Maybe he meant a cell phone as opposed to the jail phone?
Tom S good point
Butchie supplied Donnie with the books , tape and cell phone probably via corrupt guards. It's only county holding and none of the two men will be charged with anything beyond a fine and time served in holding.
What kind of jail lets them roam around like that
You wear plain clothes in Baltimore jails.
it's not a supermax prison, people are in there for all sorts of things from talking back to a cop to pissing on a federal building. When Avon was in there there was a riot that killed 5 people, but in general the place is pretty chill.

Talk about sending a message!
that particular scene is funny once you get process you get the jailhouse jump-suit, why you don't were regular cloth there many reason: hiding contraband, drugs or even object to harm yourself also if your waiting for chow you have already been process.
Tony Cooper Oh yeah, I just said the same thing on your other comment, before reading this one haha...
Great scene, I have one issue. You will NEVER find an atlas in jail or prison. Did my years. COs think you'll use it to plan an escape route.
if Donnie has a phone and walks through doors like he owns the place , he damn well has an atlas.
the 'sheeeitt' was in the negative right
@ 2:11 both those dudes do the same gesture with their arms
they don't have phonebooks in jails
Donnie and his dude seem set up easily with a phone, so phone books are easy to get.
The Boondocks - Brooklyn, New York 1999 - Young Holla (Wallace) goes to prison
The good ol' Wooden armor huh?
"Man owes me a favor!"
This must be season 3 cause I don't remember this scene
BRO... BRUTE...
The good ole county jail
why my pick not showing on my profile
I know the guy with the droopy eye was a real life Omar, but I think in this scene he is supposed to be Omar's older brother No Heart Anthony.
+johnjuanmoon Nah, Omar was ready to fight them at first. He didn't know who they were.
+David White (Troll Destroyer) Makes sense. I just thought he heard the cell door creaking when it was opened so that is why he looked up all guarded. To be fair, both of those dudes are jumbo sized so he probably saw their shadow coming up and darkening his book pages lol.
"We could of been us a couple babies" 🤨
2:19 that guy from the Oz,gained a lot of weight.
The wire meets Oz
Why the scene plus the opening credits? Why though.
Omar coming yo!
Am I the only one that winced in pain when Omar stabbed ole buddy?
I didn't hear what he whispered. Could someone tell me please?
shame we couldnt spend more time together, coulda made us a couple of babies
couple words i couldnt get but thats the gist of it i think
Immorality777
That was exactly what he said. I think the rest was him breathing heavy.
Thank you very much :)
It look like he kiss his ear too lol
Immorality777 the craziest thing is that he stabbed him in the ass. He should stab him somewhere else other than his butt hole. Poor guy.
