The History of Aimé Leon Dore

- Aimé Leon Dore is one of the hottest rising brands. Here in New York it seems like everyone is wearing their pieces - so in this video we'll be looking at how Teddy Santis made it happen. This will include his upbringing in the New York, befriending Ronnie Fieg (the founder of Kith), collaborations with New Balance, and much more. This is the history of Aimé Leon Dore.

I like how AIMÉ LEON DORE has 3 words of 4 letters each, so visually aesthetic on top of everything else the brand has to offer
It's kind of insane how much of the 90's New York streetwear aesthetic they're are able to communicate with such a minimal design approach. The aged colors used on the 550's are a perfect example of this in my opinion.
It's interesting because streetwear evolved from the 90's in brands such as Off-White & Supreme which like to make use of heavy branding and recognizable prints. Whereas ALD takes more of a timeless approach to the ever changing aesthetic of streetwear. This is really powerful in my opinion because you have a brand that you can rely on for years to come. I think teddy referenced Ralph Lauren in one of his (few) interviews as an inspiration in world building around the brand and constancy in brand essence & output. Really excited to see where they are going from here, especially with that creative director position at NB.
They are most likely opening a London based store too btw, if you look on the UK careers page on the ALD website. They're looking for a London based store manager.
Great video as always!
great points, yes teddy is very tasteful in his design decisions for sure.
awesome to see a london store opening - definitely need to drop by when that opens!
Love the brand, but they essentially took their entire theme, base and style from what hip hop fashion dudes did with the polo bear collection. Then added the essential American sartorial aesthetic of Ralph Lauren Purple Label. I would love to say it's unique, but it's really just an outrageously expensive copy cat. Still, I love what they're promoting, hate how they're not accessible. Polo will always be more for the streets, this brand, not so much, unfortunately. More for the individuals making a sizeable income who want to look like they're from Queen's, but spend like they're from the Hamptons.
@@Najobajo It's all about inspiration from the theme, not stealing. Polo by Ralph Lauren is shit, I'mma stick with the real Ralph Lauren/Purple Label. His garments are expensive because of the craftmanship and quality fabrics.
been to that store on mulberry. the energy there was undefeated. everyone was dripped tf out. shit was a different world.
on god.
I recently hit their store up in SoHo and thoroughly enjoyed our shopping experience. My wife and I ended up shopping there twice. Workers asked us if we wanted coffee while we shopped, the folks were genuinely helpful, and was among many other experiences that made visiting my wife’s hometown, Brooklyn, very very memorable. I personally like Aimé Leon Dore because their pieces are something I can grow old wearing the pieces I bought and he established distinction to ALD by helping New Balance’s further resurgence. I’m excited to see where ALD goes in the near future.
I really like that he opened Café Leon Dore, I think another big inspiration for that was Maison Kitsune. They're very similar to ALD and have Café Kitsuné shops around the world, including New York. I've never gotten into NB's shoes outside of 997s and 550s but I really think Teddy as their new Creative Director is going to change that for me and also give New Balance a much stronger presence in the sneaker and fashion markets.
This is why I love your channel! I knew about the hype of the brand, but never knew the whole context, message and aesthetic of the brand which draws me the most to a brand. Your channel is the perfect gap filler and educates me a lot.
that's the goal! thanks for watching
U goated
Wow I never realized just how instrumental Teddy's relationship with Ronnie was to getting ALD off the ground. I haven't researched the history much and figured they became friends after ALD already had a NY presence. Amazing short documentary sir, thank you!
Ps that postcard of the upcoming Teddy 990s looks 👌 😍 🔥
Didn’t know how much I loved fashion until I found your channel 💙
awesome to hear that!
Babe wake up new threaducation dropped
😂
Thanks for this vid! Was a big Ronnie Fieg fan back in 2015, I had no idea him and Teddy were such close friends. Used to love the Ronnie Fieg ASICS and now I love the teddy santis new balance. Both revitalized respective sneaker brands, kinda cool
Loved this vid. Another NB collaboration you didn’t mention was the New Balance x ALD 1300. This shoe is often forgotten due to it’s extremely late release from it’s pre-order time. The shoe is absolutely fire with great suede and colors. Happy to be a owner of both colors!
Always providing the best info!
Thank you for this video.. Nailed it. Always great content as usual!!!
WE WANTED THIS ONE! LOVE
This was very informative! Great job!
Always love the quality of the videos
Amazing video, thank you Threaducation! ALD is absolutely smashing it. Totally cherry picking their collabs, when it comes to lifestyle brands or even tailored specialists, in reference to their collaboration with Drake's, which was brilliant. Have a great day!
Amazing vid, I love these mini docs!
Dope video. I’ve seen a lot of hype around the brand too, so I was curious as to the brands story. This video was perfect.
It’s kinda crazy I remember in 2018/ 2019 their stuff would go on sale all the time and never sell out. Literally would be at the ssense 80% off, now they pulled their stuff back from most retailers and sell out instantly while raising their prices and moving manufacturing to china
have learned so much from your videos.. inspirational
Theodore is also his grandfather’s name. So sure, broken down it sounds weird. But Aime’s brand is built on heritage - including his family’s Greek heritage. So it makes sense that his brand is a dedication to his family heritage and the things that inspired him coming up in 90s NY.
Love this channel
Love and guidance to my guy thread! Another legendary video! 100k subs by January, thanks for this one b
Dope work mane
Hi! I just found your channel and im obsessed!
Great video, thank you
Years from now, people are gonna look back at the Mulberry location in a similar way to the way people view shops like Supreme, DQM, Kith and others. One of the best brands simply because of how timeless their stuff is. Was lucky to get a few shoes from them and some sweaters and the quality and attention to detail is unmatched.
They solidify my love for the brand when they allow loyal customers early access to everything which is the cherry on top for me
Fire as always
this is a certified hood classic
Certified
Love this video life changing thank you God bless
love this channel
Needed this one, been meaning to do some research on this brand.
thank you for this
It's wild how UA-cam put this in my feed, because I never heard of this brand before, but I've definitely seen the New balance 550's; I love that silhouette. Nice to see how they've come about.
ALD just discovered it today… hungry to see their designs… your video is excellent
Dope, I love their stuff
Ended up here because now there is a store in London on Broadwick Street. Dope concept, haven’t been yet but from what I’ve seen definitely worth a visit 👌
I’m obsessed with this channel
Thank you ❤
Rhude by Rhuigi I’m waiting on that vid. More power!

I grew up in the 90’s, so I really love what he’s doing. I love low profile wears.
We gotta keep this brand around! I wanna see ALD cemented in the industry for years to come no wave shit this brands got potential to be something crazy! Love what they’re doing over there damn good video my guy 👌🔥
This and the Balenciaga video were absolutley amazing, if possible try to do one on Jean Paul Gaultier or Steve Lacy

One of my favorites ❤
Their older releases were fire . Pastel coloured golfer and rugby shirts on point , nowadays I don’t even check for it …
I almost missed this cause it was not in the playlist @threaducation
✨ another one 🤞🏽
This brand has so much potential to be massive in the next 20 years. Its a huge, timeless, classic brand that I want to say it can be like, but I don’t want to disrespect the brands by the comparison. But if they keep it up, they can do it.
ALD Made in Queens NY
Would love to see a history of Stampd - feels like an LA parallel to Aime. Same friend group and era.
DO ONE ON NOAH!!! Been wanting more info on Brandon B and the brand. Also feel like ALD and NOAH got a small beef
Who took all the cool videos for ALD like the Porsche car and Woolrich collab? Thanks
Hello, I would like to buy a couple of NB550 on the website si ALD. I live in Italy, is there anyone who knows if, in addition to the retail price of the shoe and shipping (15€) I also have to pay customs taxes?
Nom De Guerre was by far the coolest shop back then as far as location and aesthetic.
The Jordan 1 collaboration today showed the attention to detail is important to the brand.
may i know where i can watch the full video/documentary of Teddy sourcing for pieces? where did those excerpts come from? thanks!!
search for "Aimé Leon Dore x Woolrich FW18 Collection"
No collaborations needed 🌟 STARS is the greatest 🎨
Too cool
Not bad ( Hi from Paris )
Haha 0:54!! No way you got Stretch and Bob!!! Respect
Could you do The History of Karl Lagerfeld, would be very interesting to see!
Sa collaboration avec longchamps est incroyable
A lot of their pieces particularly the hoodies, sweatpants etc are actually made in Toronto Canada.
Beloved father, beloved leon dore
A very good, but much higher end analogue to ALD is Drake’s whom ALD has collaborated with and introduced me to the brand
you should do a meet up
Please do the history of denma
Gotta do a video on Margiela, that dude is a ghost who created one of the biggest fashion houses ever.
Do AMI next
Production in NY ever since??
You better check again.
All the knit wear and fleece wear is manufactured in China.
Only the sweats and tshirts are made in Canada.
And when you mention collabs, how can you not mention Woolrich?? Especially since you are showing clips of him in Italy in a Woolrich warehouse?
There have not been any collab items with Kith either.
can you do a video on comme des garcons
ballin
8:43
Only 2 additional color ways were released after the initial 4.
Dope brand, just too expensive.
You should do a video on Phil post and dertbag
ALD has really great stuff but the online ordering experience really sucks if you're international and have issues. Shipping is super expensive and if you receive the order and have any issues, there is no refund process. You can only get store credit and they'll deduct return shipping costs from your store credit. It's 2 day DHL so it's like $54 USD. Just a warning to people. You're better off keeping the item and trying to resell. It's shady.
Do a video with On HERON PRESTON
What I got from this video is the importance of connections and money. How would his story have turned out if he didn’t have a relationship with feig, funding to open a brick and Morse in nyc and the funds to launch a line in kith. Not downplaying the style, but also saying nothing is spectacular about it either.
