For me, it’s buying too many sneakers. When I first started getting into sneakers, I’d try to buy as many pairs that caught my eyes. Sometimes I would just buy sneakers because they were on sale even though I had no emotional connection to it. It would get so bad that whenever I got a new pair, I’d get stressed out on where I can store them. Now I’m trying to downsize on my collection because I’m focusing more on essential sneakers that’ll fit my capsule wardrobe. Sometimes too much of things can become toxic for your mental health.

100% agreed. I feel I am more excited unboxing my sneakers then actually wearing them, as most of them ends up back in their box and in piles. Now my rules are:
      1) 1 pair in, at least 1 pair out. I am constantly thinning out my collection.
      2) Be honest with myself whether I will actually wear it with my outfits. I don't care how beautiful I think a pair of purple suede sneakers are, I know I ain't wearing them.
      3) If they don't have long-term hold values, and I haven't worn them in a year, they are out.

Same man, At my peak I had over 100 pairs. I used to work for Nike EHQ and several sneaker stores and was copping multiple pairs every month. It took me now almost 3 years to downsize it to around 15 to 20 pairs of sneakers that I actually all wear. It put a lot of pressure mentally on me as well to always think about my outfit and colour coordination or oh yeah haven't worn this pair a lot etc.

I collect G Shock watches and the same rule applies… only buy watches you’ll actually wear. A collection of 5-8 ish sounds about right

    • @PinkAgaricus
      @PinkAgaricus 10 місяців тому

@@marceloflores3953 Yep I agree with the 5-7 pairs of anything (especially shoes and watches) since if you get either of those at retail they cost quite a bit (at standard shoe stores, but at those off stock shoe places [that sell retail shoes, just out of season] they actually are 50%-60% off). That number of pairs gives each pair of shoes time to air out between wears, especially if one's feet has a propensity to sweat lots and feed the bacteria that are the source of smelly feet/shoes (I think that would be the biofilm from the soles of feet).
That "off stock" means the shoes I don't see on shoe stores like Foot Locker's shelves/shoe holders.
I buy to use them, not for the sake of just leaving them lying around on a shelf.

How would you recommend adding more color in one's wardrobe?
The most color I've worn are blue suede or dark burgundy shoes, while the rest of my closet is black or very dark green, navy, and grey. I guess I've never felt confident enough to wear something brighter. 😓
      Perhaps colored accessories to start?

    • @Indigololz
      @Indigololz 10 місяців тому +10

@@It_swill I’d start simple. Get a white sneaker with some color like the Adidas Gazelle or Samba. Wear that with your existing clothes. Throw in a white t-shirt or light-wash jean and you have a good base to incorporate whatever color you like. Don’t overthink it - just look for clothes and colors that you like. As long as you feel good wearing something it will look good too.

It’s funny you mention feeling uncomfortable wearing camions with jeans, i have a pair in black and I’ve been rocking them with denim nonstop for the past 8 months. I think the pairing really nails the “dressy cowboy” style that our legacy kinda excels at, but if that’s not your thing, I can totally see the camions being a letdown. I’m planning on picking up a pair in the olive brown color way soon, so i’m obviously a big fan haha

ugh, I regret everything Aritzia. I got sucked into the hype during the pandemic, but their quality, return policy, customer service, pricing, sales is all shit. Also, I can relate to the exploratory regrets. I try to mitigate it by returning nearly 80% of the clothes that I buy, but sometimes, things don't work out like the shoes that never broke in (ferragamo loafers for me). I think this is why I got into color theory and learning about body proportionality. The more you know, the less you miss.

The headphones trend reminds me a lot of beats. In the same way people went from Af1s to 550s, it's like going from Beats by Dre to Airpod maxes. I wear headphones/in ear monitors a lot when I'm out, i NEED music in my life, but it felt like the trend was less about wearing and using headphones, and more about wearing specifically Airpod Maxes. sure, there were a few other brands and models that people put on, but it seemed like everyone's outfits and all the hype revolved around having that apple brand on your head, trying to signal to others "I own these" rather than "I use these" if that makes sense. Suddenly this tool to listen to sound wasn't about enjoying music, it was how they made you look. They became a tool that you could use as an accessory, and were now an accessory that also had a use.

Dude, I regret so many purchases this past year. I’m 31, I’m pretty set in how I like to dress; the mix of maneuverability/comfort and stylishness was dialed in. A bit of a personal uniform thing you know? I didn’t have to worry about what I was going to wear and I knew I would enjoy wearing it and that I would look good. But this past year I basically said fuck it, everything I have an interest in whether or not it is something that fits my aesthetic currently I’m just gonna buy it and try it. I can honestly say that I spent thousands to end up more or less where I began. I did gain some insight into some things, my buying habits in particular, but lots of money wasted. especially on sneakers because I don’t wear sneakers except for when I’m training. But anyway, yeah. Glad I can share that somewhat embarrassing fact to a community that understands where I’m coming from.

Honestly the reason why I started watching this channel was because I felt like I didn't have any direction for my style and I wanted to learn from you. I reset my wardrobe after college and I never cared about fashion until a year ago. I went through a lot of ups and downs too and I justified it in my head at first cuz I mostly bought second hand. However, after awhile I thought it was wasting money but I really resonated with you when you said that there's a difference between spending money as a waste and spending money to experiment with your style. I think overall, I've kept a consistent style and spent money to experiment every once in awhile so it wasn't a waste of money after all. Thanks, Drew!

This often comes with the problem that my wardrobe is limited since not everything looks good with everything. Your bonus regret about getting caught up in all different types of fashion is real bro! I have been going through the same thing. The more I tried fashion, the more complicated it got and I am someone who maybe 5 years could not imagine putting more than 30 sec of thought into an outfit. The worst part I noticed is you end up going to the same things every time unless you make a conscious decision to wear something. Imma be honest, my way of getting out of this has been to view my clothes based on my environment and activity. It doesn't fix the issue, but if you are sometimes overwhelmed with different choices, it's worth trying that thought process. It simply makes the choices a little easier to organize.

Weird point on the Adrian loafers, I've worn a lot of docs, as in from 2012 to 2020 I think I literally only owned Docs, probably 10 - 15 pairs and have had a number of really tough to break in pairs . The Adrian loafers were probably the easiest pair / least break in period I've experienced.
I don't think this is to do with the style of shoe at all, I just think Docs quality is questionable these days and unreliable as to whether a pair will break in beautifully or it will be torture.

I love this, but where I'm at in my fashion journey I try really hard not to have purchases be regrets. So so many pieces I bought and weren't crazy about when I got them became hidden treasures later when I revisted them. I try to look at them as part of the evolution of my style.
I def feel all over the place with my style too, but I also don't feel like I have to have one cohesive vision. My main interests in clothing are so far apart from each other that it just makes sense to match styles by the day instead of trying to have a completely theme cohesive wardrobe. I really enjoy stone island and CP company and some more avant garde Japanese and dutch fashion, but I also really enjoy work wear and the general vibe of a lot of the stuff you wear. Some days I look like a slavic football hooligan and some days I take a bunch of inspiration from people like you or Matty Matheson, I'm cool with that dichotomy :]
That being said, I have 2 very expensive pairs of Maharishi pants that I desperately want to get rid off. Someone please buy them lmao

I also have that issue with saying “I only like this one style”. When I’ve realised that fashion (for me at least) can’t be like that.
I just now use trends as a way to see if it fits my current interests, and if it doesn’t then that’s fine! It’s boiling it down to basics.
For example, I really only dress in two “categories” for lack of better term:
    -preppy gym wear
    -workwear + boots
I got into them during the trends but now it’s all I wear and I just narrow down into either one of these each day I put together and outfit. And if I can’t decide which one, then I wear my well invested comfy tracksuits that look great by themselves. Keeps things fresh whilst keeping true to me and my lifestyle.

All my regrets are based on choosing something that was the wrong size. Almost every shoe I bought in the past 2 years was, like, half a size to a size too big, which sucks because I like the style of shoes I bought (Merrell Moab 3 mids) but they're not comfortable to wear, so I almost never wear them. I also bought some Thursday boots because everyone said they'd break in eventually and they just never got comfy. I should probably sell this stuff but I'm lazy ...

Oh dude I've got a ton of regrettable clothing buys, mainly because I thrift all my stuff, and I'll get some crazy looking pieces just because they're so cheap. I think the worst was this really thin longline beach cardigan thingy from Billabong that I feel like would be really cool if I was at a psychedelic music festival on the beach somewhere, but really has no place in my (nor any human's really) wardrobe. Also fellow Coloradoan represent! 👊

The oxblood boots…a crucial style lesson I’ve learned: just because it looks good doesn’t mean it looks good worn. Some goods are like statues. A lot of sneakers fall into that category.

i’ve had my adrian loafers for well over 3.5 years now and i’ve hardly faced any discomfort. they’ve been my go-to for what feels like forever. i have a wider foot, specifically in the heel, which i believe is the key to my complete lack of discomfort throughout my entire wearing experience. if you got particularly long or slim feet, i have a feeling these just simply won’t work for you.

I definitely feel you on the Adrian Tassel loafers. The pair I own is a half size bigger than my actual size so I always thought that was the main reason why they were uncomfortable and hurt. I don't know if I regret purchasing them because I still think it's a really stunning shoe, but I definitely don't wear them as much as I would if they fit me properly.

You helped me pull the trigger on some adrian loafers and it ended up being an instant regret lmaoo, I couldn't wear them more than ~5x because they hurt so bad but also the style didn't fit with my wardrobe. It did help me eventually find the Oree NYC derbys and those most definitely filled that spot in my wardrobe. I've had tons of regrets in the past year but lately i've just bought EVERYTHING being added into my wardrobe in black and found myself way more open to experimenting w diff styles and implementing what I really like into my day-to-day dress. I know the concept is almost played out at this point but the most important thing that improved my style was implementing a uniform that I can wear every day which can be slightly modified to fit damn near any occasion and i've loved it. Practical, comfortable, looks good but most importantly im not overspending on things I dont need now... lmao

My main regrets are trying to get incorrect sized shoes to fit. Even if it's just one width or a half size too small/large, it's not worth the effort and pain. I buy a lot of vintage and secondhand footwear, but those $20-$100 mistakes add up!
In regards to the Docs loafer, I think that rigid sole, corrected grain leather, and the last it's built upon is not right for your feet, or it's just not well designed in the first place. For something like loafers, the secondhand/thrift market is full of options, and Allen Edmonds is a great start.
I'm a self-professed "shoe enthusiast" so I have and have tried many welted shoe brands, and imho a *supportive* leather shoe is more forgiving than a foamy canvas one, which only feels good short term, but doesn't support your foot long term.
It's best to get measured correctly and often, try on many different lasts, and don't get married to a style of shoe too fast or one shoe size for everything, bc if it don't fit, it don't fit. Not worth the aching and suffering. I digress.
This video makes me feel a bit less regretful knowing we all make monetary fashion mistakes...❤

I kind of have the same issue with that i love many different fahion styles. I LOVE suits and classic menswear, but i dont get to wear a suit that often, but it is so nice when i do get to wear it, and even implement some of the classic style to my everyday wear.
And also like old school, skatervibe and minimalistic scandinavian. And i cant have all of these, and neither do all of these fit that great when combined (most of the time). But i do like mixing the ideas and "rules" these have with sizing, fits, proportions and comfort. Its just such a fun way to experiment!

They got a lot more comfortable and do not hurt unless im out and walking in them for 5-7 hrs. Its been 1 year now and I can finally say that i've broken in the docs

When I bought my Adrian loafers, they were indeed very uncomfortable and I had to wear plasters on my feet to prevent blisters. However I did eventually manage to break them in pretty well and now they fit me like a glove. I also bought the Jadon platform doc’s and while they fit more comfortably they are pretty heavy but overall a solid boot. But I feel you Drew, the Adrian loafers are quite painful when you first buy them. 😅
