❤❤❤❤❤ great great GREAT conversation. Very intuitive. Very heartfelt. Made me think about my parents. Rick is so good with words. Thank yall for this episode. ❤❤❤❤ so much growth.
This is such a great episode. You guys are amazing in these kind of topics, very relatable and very heart-felt. Keep it up!
Thank you for the honest conversation amongst yourself, it made me think and reflect on how I am as a kid (to my parents) and how I potentially had 'misunderstood' them and wrongly 'resented' them at many many points in my life (pre-parenthood). As what Rick said, once I become a parent myself now (a mum to my children), I grow to emphasize and understand what/ why my parents did what they did. From childhood trauma/resentment to cultural resilience .....all topics covered. This episode speaks my mind/inner thoughts. Thank you for acknowledging our elderly and thank you for acknowledging how you feel. I appreciate it.
Not sure if the closing out take was intentional, but love that it was put in lol.
I don't usually watch people eat online, thank you for no weird close up sounds of you guys chewing I loved hearing the conversation between you guys. I also wanna say as a longtime DFD fan he deserves some lead roles!
Dumb, you seem very grounded and comfortable in channeling the masculine energy. I can tell you’ve done a lot of personal development. You’re a role model sir.
I'm a Korean dad who finally immigrated to the U.S. in 2017. Listening to your stories made me think of my own parents and my kids, and I really enjoyed it. Best part was 눈치. Love the insight of Hulk.
My parents immigrated separately to America. My mom to Indiana to Oregon and my dad to Koreatown LA. They met somehow and moved to Texas. Also, my grandma is 94 and went through the occupation era and because of it, she speaks fluent Japanese. So watching Pachinko hits me a certain way.
My spouse and I are immigrants. We have two kids (4 and 2). So it's kinda surreal for me to be living your parents' perspectives, but be your age. My spouse and I talk about this all the time. How do we preserve our heritage and culture, while not making our kids feel out of place? How do we help them understand our struggles and sacrifices as immigrants for social security, while not imparting the "guilt" and "feeling like they owe us"? I don't have the answers, but I guess we just gotta take one day at a time.
Awesome podcast! big Kamsam for that , for sharing exactly similar experiences, feelings and so much more :) pachinko is a masterpiece ! Story of my grands and parents, and mlns of other Korean families who had sacrificed their hardest lives to make a better life’s for us…. ❤❤❤
Rick went in the first 10 mins. Said about 10 words. Lmao.
Dumb looks he just woke up and eating breakfast 😂
I started watching pachinko because of this episode, only 3 episodes in but I am really enjoying it so far!
My brother & I were born in Bangladesh & our 2 sisters were born in the states. I completely understand where you all are coming from the stress & expectations with being the 1st generation. My dad had o position in academics & would get upset with us if we didn’t do well in school. At some point he told my mother & grandmother not to speak anything except English. I knew my original language when I was little but no longer know it now. I’ve been told we would have been bilingual if they would have been more patient. My dad was demanding with having perfection.
He thought the younger siblings were better because they became what he wanted. I am a nurse now, my sisters are a doctor & a lawyer. My brother quit going to the university & was a food server/bartender. I felt like he gave up. He died 2 years ago. I could not believe the status of his home. He was obviously not coping well. Makes me sad about his mental health.
My sisters became what my dad told them to be. I asked one of them if that’s what they wanted to be & she got upset. I wonder if she doesn’t know because that’s what she was always told.
The conversations were fire this episode. These Mukbang episodes could be the move.
Edit: I think it’s how close you guys are sitting together. It’s changing the vibe positively in some sort of way 🤔
Did he just dabbed his mouth with the seaweed lol 😂😂😂
Great episode guys ❤❤
Love this episode!!
Good to hear you guys perspectives on identities. You guys are more interesting when stuffing your faces ;)

Great episode as always and the really hitting with diving into the parents sacrifice topic. Anna Sawai who’s kawaii is wild though lol
I’m Korean-American, grew up in SoCal, and have lived in various states, including Canada. I enjoy watching your channel, but I'd like to offer some feedback. When I watch Asian-American UA-camrs like you, I appreciate hearing about your experiences growing up as an Asian-American and the discrimination you’ve faced. However, I think it’s important to recognize that similar challenges might be experienced by other non-Koreans living in Korea, who may also face issues like feeling uncomfortable bringing their traditional foods to school for fear of mockery.
I’d suggest broadening the focus a bit. While it's valuable to discuss personal experiences and cultural background, it can become repetitive if it’s the sole focus. It would be refreshing to hear a wider range of topics and general content. Additionally, it’s worth noting that growing up as a Korean-American in SoCal comes with its own set of privileges that might not be the same in places like Canada or other states.
💎 💎 💎 all throughout the episode
