@@roar5853 China is still "allied" to NK, which is a long historical issue, I suppose you already knew. Thus, have to send back the defectors. I, personally as a Chinese, consider this not right. If they hate NK so much and risk their lives to fled to China, China should accept them, or at least let them go where they want, but sadly that won't be the case in the near future, as long as the alliance of NK and China still stands, and NK is still the NK as it is now. And btw, even though he used Chinese, he said his nationality is Japan, he's not a Chinese citizen.
Im glad he looks well. But he also looks in low spirit. I know it's hard to blend in south korea life as north korean. Some people are racist and being bullies. I hope he is blessed and loved.
North Koreans can’t experience racism in South Korea, because North Koreans are Korean. North Koreans and South Koreans are both Korean and speak the same language, share the same culture, and always have for over 1,000 years. 80 years of division doesn’t make North Koreans no-longer Korean. Yes, they can experience xenophobia, but not racism.
Pro-China factions often argue that many defectors want to return to North Korea. Not long ago, there was controversy over China sending defectors back to North Korea. In fact, from South Korea’s perspective, it would be difficult to handle many defectors in China coming to South Korea. And from the defectors’ perspective, staying in China and then returning to North Korea would be another option. It is time to change the defector policy of the past when South Korea was competing with North Korea for superiority. The world already knows too well about North Korean society. There are too many defectors who do not want to work hard with South Koreans, but instead hang around various propaganda media outlets looking for easy money and fail to adapt to society. Of course, there are many defectors who work and enjoy life just like South Koreans, to the point that it is hard to tell whether they are defectors or not.

South Korea has a lot of issues. Some North Koreans have issues of their own, I am sure. Both sides gotta work on the issues of their own to understand, adjust to and eventually embrace each other. When they point the finger at each other and say "you are the problem," they usually can't find a real solution and only impose on each other. I hope this is not the case for South Korea and some of the North Korean defectors.
North korean who live in korea is part of korea. They have right to be citizen of thier country. And also has responsible for its country... I hope they have every system they needed to live peacefuly.
As a U.S. American, it's both jarring and refreshing to hear someone forthrightly and accurately using the word "capitalism" in discussion. The greatest success of American capitalist hegemony is the complete amnesia of its citizens. The propaganda is so strong that those living inside the core of the metropole can't even name the system that defines their lives.
@ailediablo79 They kill their own and threaten other nations. To me it doesn't matter who they kill, the victims are all people. NK is a cruel dictatorship...
My stepmom carries only one recessive gene of Von Willebrons hemophilia trait and she still bleeds alot. Her mom had lung cancer and died from internal bleeding not because the cancer had advanced incredibly fast. I hope his infusions are helpful
If it had not been for the word "competition", South Korea couldn't have become a member of developed countries. It doesn't have a huge ground and fertile natural resources like the US and Russia, thus, the Korean government had to teach its students as if younger experts in various fields. Because it hasn't any valuable material resources to develop its economy except for human resources. Therefore, lots of technical business assets developed by Korean companies could've become the future of this small state as it is today. This ex-North Korean student might not have understood how to raise himself in South Korea. No pain, no gain in South Korea's social lives.
If South Korea is importing caregivers from Philippines how North Korean defectors don’t see this as an opportunity to make an impact, stand out and have a great life in South Korea? Money moves the world. They could even get their relatives out of North Korea. Thank you so much for this interview. Great job!
I think it's also a sign of things improving in North Korea. In the 90's life in the DPRK must have been aweful. Kim Jong-Un has proven to be a more competent leader than his father was in my eyes.
@@angryyordle4640 I can't say that is the sign of improving anything in North Korean's wellfare. Recently, there are many escapes in NK's elite class, and a massive flood caused minimum a thousand of people's death. There are a lot of Taiwanese hwagyos and joseonjoks after all especially on the internet. Just remember that just cuz somebody speaks Korean and has a Korean surname does not mean he's Korean. Foreigners often have no idea.
Competition is what drives the free world. There’s a reason why North Korea is 60 years behind the rest of the free world. If you don’t mind that, then you have no worries.
What I've seen is that people who are past the age of 30 can't join and compete in South Korea, therefore they had a better life in the north, maybe joining the army or taking a factory job. There's also the loneliness, all their loved ones are in the north, so they suffer from depression many times.
@@꿈빛나래 I suggest you search on UA-cam the video titled "Why many north koreans want to go back to North Korea" Many even say they are ready to face the punishment of working on a labor camp. That shows just how depressed they are and how difficult their lives are in South Korea.

I felt really bad when I saw this interview. I've seen several videos that the government is providing a lot of support. It's all paid with our taxes. I was also thinking positively about North Korean defectors, but watching this video makes me feel very bad. Did he just think of freedom and not competition as he moved from a communist country to a capitalist country? If you gain something, you lose something, but you want to enjoy freedom and live in a rich country, and you don't want to compete, and you want to leave South Korea LOL The taxes paid to North Korean defectors are also money earned by Koreans through competition. Did you think South Korea was a fantasy country without any competition? I really don't want to help them.
That's harsh. How could they know, while living there, how capitalism would be? It's impossible to imagine it from the limited information that trickled in their homeland. And, as Joan rightly says below, competition in S. Korea is much more than in most Western countries.
@@irmar North Korean students also learn about capitalism. It is to criticize the South Korean system. It is natural that Korea is more competitive than Western countries. Most Western countries were able to accumulate wealth through wars and colonies, but South Korea was under Japanese colonial rule from 1910 to 1945, and from 1950 to 1953 fought wars with North Korea on the Korean Peninsula. Through this process, Korea became extremely poor and the land was devastated. In this situation, in order for Korea to become a rich country, humans had no choice but to become a resource and survive through intense competition. In fact, Korea's gdp, which was in the top 100 after the war, is now in the top 10. Honestly, it's funny that Western countries that have never experienced this kind of situation criticize Korea's competition.
Does his condition mean that he has to be extra wary of cuts and bruises? Wouldn't he basically have to live a bubble-wrap lifestyle out of an abundance of caution? If NK parents want their kids to escape, why wouldn't they also risk following them given the corresponding punishment they'll face when the regime finds out? And isn't the punishment intergenerational? "I have to accept punishment first." His warm welcome would end in him losing his pulse if he were to step foot in NK again. It wouldn't just be momentary torture and returning to civilian life.
only the people who don't have basis property to live there will choose either starving to death or life-risking escape. so called elites in north korea are not really interested in escaping the regime leaving their wealth and status. systematically the gap between 2 koreas are huge that nk parents who can take care of themselves are hesistant to start the business from the bottom in sk. from the one show, i heard that the punishment towards the defectors' remaining family got soften than before since there are so many of them now. it's assumed that 1 percent of the population has escaped nk which is quite a huge number and that means their family including all the blood relatives that they have never known or heard of would be the majority. that's why the regime cannot harshly punish all of them anymore; still rarely the regime publically execute them to threaten people and keep the regime. now the parents and kids decide to be separated knowing that at least theire parents are alive and having hope one day they can reunite.
So Hemophilia typically affects males, they can live a relatively normal life with medication and there are more advanced treatments for it now then there used to be. The best thing they can do is avoid any kind of contact sport and avoid certain pain meds like aspirin or ibuprofen because they thin the blood so we want to avoid that. They can take tylenol for pain. Cuts and bruises are superficial so no not an issue but its internal bleeding or severe deep wounds that would be a major concern.
I heard that in the Kim ill Sung days the 3 generations law was enforced first starting with other Korean communists the disagreed with him down to the common people who dared said anything or dowm something that the government didnt like. In the early 2000s, Kim Jung ill made it to apply only on situational bases. Let's say a woman selling food in the market decides to defect in the early 2000s. Kim Jung ill is like whatever we have bigger problems, but her family will be looked down upon by the government and maybe closely monitored. In some cases like Kim Jung Un's uncle all of the people who closely worked under him were all purged and some got the 3 generations law applyed to them.

South Korea is a mix of high competition with a communist establishment (chaebols). A deadly mix that is going to bring South Korea to its knees is nothing changes. There is something in Korean culture that produces the same highly hierarchical society no matter if the economic model is capitalist or communist. I'd say confucian culture as well as the fact Koreans are very homogenous culturally (neighboring Japan has more local diversity for instance), it doesn't allow heterodox thought and action because all Koreans are the same culturally and value uniformity and hierarchy. That being said, South Korea has managed to produce a myriad of different cults (christian or not) so maybe the solution isn't that out of reach.

Of course this is like country living vs city living. In North koreans case.. country living without food.

Competition is what drives the free world. There’s a reason why North Korea is 60 years behind the rest of the free world. If you don’t mind that, then you have no worries.
What I've seen is that people who are past the age of 30 can't join and compete in South Korea, therefore they had a better life in the north, maybe joining the army or taking a factory job. meh id see a few things where trying to sneak in to NK would be a good idea but they are pretty situational, like if you posted something that makes the C.i.A lose face and all of a sudden you think they might get back at you or something only place you got actual odds of escaping would be NK but you pretty much have the mentality that you are going to be trading your modern life for bottom of society status in that place it's most likely survival farming but might be better then waiting around to get hauled to jail on trumped up charge and be put in a cell with a new boyfriend.

Damn, the economy is so bad that the millenials and gen z North Korean defectors want to go back 💀
I felt really bad when I saw this interview.
I don't think most of the US would do well with the type of competition in South Korea. From what I've heard it's pretty over the top.

Well, he could always go back to North if he think South is too competitive.
