Thank you, Kathleen. This video was life changing! I outsource my patterns to be graded and digitised and this is infinitely helpful to understand her process and how to make everything go smoothly.
Thank you so much, Kathleen! And thank you, Zoe, for bringing this to us. I found it fascinating and really learned so much, especially regarding the auditing. Thanks again to both of you.
Zoe what sign are you I think Sagittarius has to be in your stars but then you have the skills of a virgo , your work with the pen tool is outstanding. You said you had a teacher that just had you follow crazy lines. Your obviously a natural but that really paid off ... your details dont look like anything I've seen done without a Cintiq... maybe Gemini great hand Eye coordination
Hi Zoe! First off, thanks for the great informative videos you upload to your channel on the regular. They are so full of insight. Do you mind clarifying for me Kathleen's response in regards to your question if she started every pattern from scratch for every single one of her clients? Her response was something around the lines "that making patterns from scratch was a waste of time, that she didn't use patterns in her library that were already created, and that she would just digitize the garment they bring to her" My question is, did she not say she can work from a sketch? What if the client doesn't have the actual garment and the only thing they have is a sketch and no measurements? Does she not have to start from scratch and or at least create a new pattern from one of her existing patterns and create a size chart for their particular brand? Thanks in advance!
No, I can't speak for Kathleen. Your questions are valid, but you should address them to the pattern maker you are specifically looking to hire, since everyone works differently.
I thought this was an incredibly useful gem of a video on your channel. I know there's some audio issues, but it gave me a lot of insight into grading and was wondering if there are other sources of knowledge I can learn about about this topic.
There are a lot of books about grading patterns by hand out there. I like Jack Handford's. I don't know of any good books that go over grading on software. A tech designer friend hired a private tutor to teach her how to grade on Gerber.
hi how can set up for printing please? my print lay out is too small for pattern label means cannot able to see .can you please help me to put the tutorial if you can
Awesome information! I went to fashion design school and learned how to draw my cads over a dress form, which really does help the pattern maker! when you're recording videos, the sound quality isn't great, and when you laugh, or speak loudly, it hurts the ears... Kathleen has a soft voice, so I crank up the volume and then you're really close to the mic, so it is hard to listen to.
Hey Zoe, Thanks for the video. I have a question, just to be sure I understand. Can the sketches I send to a pattern maker be something I drew up freehanded in Adobe Illustrator or some program? Or do they need logical coordinates and proportions in order for the pattern maker to make use of them in StyleCAD?
They're pretty much the same, with the sole difference Gerber uses a different file format and has an entire family of programs taking care of every step of the design and production cycle. Gerber software is notably more expensive so it's used by huge factories which can afford the investment and need complete automation from drafting to cutting, while StyleCAD is more suitable for small to medium factories. Hope this clears it out for ya! ;)
Oh great. Thanks for your videos teachings , if y’all have time, can you make more videos teaching about how to create patterns, marker , grading , write sewing instructions …with the software Styles Cad .. again, thank you soooooo much. God bless you. A little bit more things on this video. It’s just a little blur , can you make it clearer in future. Thanks.

I'm so early for this one, glad I turned on my notifications. I've been waiting for this video since you mentioned it on part 2 of the interview.

You're welcome!
Zoe not only knowledgeable and talented, but I love how down to earth you are. So cute....
Thanks!

Amazing video thanks so much!!
You're welcome!
Great video.
Many thanks! Professa Hong, what software would you recommend today (I note this video is 6 years old, so I'm wondering if this program is dated)?

for the arm hole notch. why did she put 3inches for the front piece then 3.5 for the back piece?

Did you ever find out? I’m really curious too
again great video! I do have a question. What is the different between StyleCAD and Gerber?
I don't know. I have no experience with either. That's why I asked Kathleen to do this video.

Cost for one. 😂
shouldn't be the sleeve bigger than the armhole?
No. Kathleen and I both think sleeve cap ease is bullshit.
I use sleeve cap ease
@@zoehongteaches this made me lol. I was taught sleeve ease. Sounds like a rule to be broken? May I ask why you both think it unnecessary?

She didn't seem to grade the neckline?
This video is so informative. Btw I wanted to ask you who would you contact to have custom print fabric made?
You'll have to research that yourself to find someone that suits your needs. fashiondex.com can be a good place to start.
