I love you Zoe. I love fashion and I'm primarily self-taught: therefore, I rely heavily on your wisdom and knowledge. I appreciate you for your honesty and commitment to fashion education. For those of us who are not formally trained, it is crucial to fill gaps in knowledge with constant reading and practice. A lot of times, I don't know what I don't know. Thank you.
Color and light for the realist painter is the best book on color imo. It goes into the science of how color works, how light works, color theory, how to apply color theory, understanding color in real life situations, mixing colors from paints, and more 10/10, would recommend
I wish you had spent a little more time on the collage book but I still really enjoyed the video. I'm not really into fashion but loved watching you flip through all the books. It would be great to see more videos like this :)
I just bought the Madeleine Vionnet book a week ago and it's amazing! At the moment I am trying to recreate a dress from the section quadrants. You really have to focus while doing the construction because there are no given measurements or angles, but if you have a basic understanding of pattern making it is possible to recreate the pattern. (I did have the impression though that they just copied the pattern from the garment and did not take into consideration that it maybe did go out of shape a little in the meanwhile) I will sew the first prototype within the next two weeks. If you are interested I can keep you updated.
The Vionnet book. Literally fell in love with this when I first read it. x x I love your channel, well done on reaching 74k on youtube. Lots of love from Manchester, England. x
Thanks for this. I got so excited when I saw the. thierry mugler book only to discover how scarce it is and those copies that are available or $300 Canadian! Oh well back to the drawing pad
Fantastic critique on The Sourcebook of Fashion Design .. lol - I bought Knitwear Design by Carol Brown for my sister because of your critique, as well so thanks, too!
No it is a source book for art directors or companies looking for artists and designers. They can look through that book and if they like the work they can get their website below to find more of that person's work to decide if they want to hire them for anything.
I have 9 Heads and i totally agree with your review. The flats are the best part of the book. The illustrations are lacking she it comes to instructions and everything is in pencil. It gives no instruction on color medium. I also have the now out of print marker rendering book that cane with 9 heads. But again very little instruction, just a bunch of illustrations of other designers work.
Hello @hypegreene05. I am in need of this book for the flat sketches. Could you please write down the complete name of the book with the edition? It would be a great help. Thank you :)
Great reviews, I have missed your videos! ❤️❤️👍I’ve always wondered if that 9heads book was worth it as it’s always sealed up in the bookstores. Loooove that Vionnet book, I have taken that out from the library a ton of times (but never used the patterns)
Hi zoe , You have a student from #India .Started watching one video and that continued of me being your student.I am a Fashion designing student and I love your videos so much❤️
Hi, thanks for the great review. Have you come across ‘Fashion Drawing: Illustration techniques for fashion designers’ second edition. Would love to hear your review. All the best.
Lol 9heads (and Riegelman's other books) is the fashion illustration bible at my school and I'm not totally a fan. I like learning it for proportions but a lot of the suggested poses feel unnatural. And in my flats class, my teacher literally said don't emulate her flats.
So I have 9Heads and was a bit startled by your review since it was the book my fashion drawing teacher at college used to teach us the class back in 2003. Years later I saw it at the bookstore and bought it so I can refer back to it. The main bit she used to teach was probably more at the front to create our own croquis. Since you're not a fan, is there another book that covers this type of info that you do recommend? Drawing Fashion Accessories, Thierry Mugler and Madeleine Vionnet would go on my wishlist. I first discovered her when I was assigned Vionnet in a design class to research and share with the class. Love her bias draping.
@@zoehongteaches Gotcha. You do have a few. Some I've watched and they're taking me back. I have to watch the 11 head one. I started wondering, how do you do cute petite women who aren't teenage junior and don't have big boobs as the defining features for different ages. I'm definitely going to watch the male ones as well since I never did that. Your channel has so much good stuff. Thanks for sharing and helping us!
Thk u zoe for this video. I also need to know if it is a gud idea if professional portfolio is done either by hand or by computer or by using both skill set....?

Unnatural--yeah, that's the word I was looking for.

No, which is why I have so many figure drawing videos.
