I don't know why your tech pack series does not have many likes! Your videos are pure GOLD! Love your videos Zoe! They are so informative and love how you explain every detail.
I'm so glad you made this video! You are a super cool person for doing this kind of stuff. You were like born to be a teacher, I've learned so much from just skimming through all your videos
Overall, great video. I work in fashion and I am always shocked how students entering the field don't know the basics of tech packs. It's not the "fun" part of fashion, but I 100% believe that all designers should have at least 1 year of tech experience to be truly strong designers! One small note: For the Excel formula you mention at 30:00 I think it should actually be = SUM(F10-.05) Otherwise, great job!
Hey. Do you have anything like 21-century fashion like an encyclopedia of fashion? I want to see the different trends of fashions just for fun. and great stuff. I'm learning a lot for a beginner your stuff is fire.
Super informative video, Zoe! Really appreciate it! Quick question: When you set the formulas in excel for all the sizes except your sample size, you would only have to enter the measurements of the sample size, and the other sizes will get their values automatically, right? Like, it saves you the effort of going in and entering the values individually.....?
One more question, when is this tech pack(not grading) process at? And done by who?and also when designer finish design, should he /she give details of measurements to tech staff. Sorry if the question is very stupid.
Once the designer puts together the design with the fabric swatch and flat, the tech designer takes the info from the designer and puts together the tech pack so the pattern maker can get started. Measurements are up to the tech designer, to be tweaked in the fitting process, but the designer's flat should show if it's supposed to be tight fit, boxy fit, etc. If a designer is doing stuff for the very first time, that's a more involved process.
There is no average. Your time and costs will vary wildly depending on the complexity of your garment. A tshirt vs an embellished cocktail dress vs a high performance hiking parka vs jeans vs I could go on and on.
In my experience plus sizes tend to not fit as well because the body doesn’t grow out proportionately. When grading up to an xl or higher would you change some of the grade rules as you get larger?
You're absolutely right, you need to consider how your customer gains weight and grade accordingly. Many companies try to design plus size by just grading up their existing patterns but that doesn't work. You can grade a small range of sizes the regular way, and then you have to start examining the pattern when you go past that range. XS-XL is usually ok, if you go XXS-XXL, that's when you start getting sloppy.
Zoe . I got a question about knits. I found there's knit fabric for sale on the market.but it seems like factory only like to make knit from yarns. So how knit are produced? Can you answer me pls? Or maybe make a Video about it.
When you're entering the grading formulas into excel, where E10 = F10 - 0.5. For the size XS, would the formula be D10 = F10 - 1? Because 1/2 + 1/2 = 1. Do you know what I mean?
Still have one question, when I was searching inspiration. I collect just too many images. I like this I also like that? So what should I do?seems very hard for me to narrow down. And to choose fabric and to make a design that I'm satisfied. Am I just lacking experience?Pls help me.
Quick question- if we were filling out the grade rule by hand (for w.e reason), are we supposed to put the actual measurement number ? Or is it okay to write/send off with “-1/2” in columns ? - just asking for clarification on what’s expected to be in those columns when we send it out. 😊🤍
I think it's ok to write -1/2" because they grade off the sample size pattern, instead of creating a new pattern from scratch each time. Each factory will be different though.

thank you so much for your answer.
Thank you so much for everything you do!!
How long do you think the tech pack process should take? And what's the average price for this service?

Not like jersey knits. But knits like sweater.
I'm planning a knits video but basically you should go look up the difference between cut and sew knits and fashioned knits.

Ah, yes. Good on you for catching that.

Slow down and examine your examples carefully. Do you like it or do you love it? Does it fit your initial concept?
Zoe Hong thank you,Zoe. Great advice.I'll do that .
If you have NO IDEA what I am talking about then you need to go learn excel!
I know someone who can use this information!
