You should actually put catch on for every Halo 3 flood level because the flood don't throw grenades. Catch basically has no effect except giving you more points.
I go for high scores on the leaderboards, I've learned how the scoring works inside and out. I know the extra % of points each medal gives too. It's all about NOT DYING. The higher your spree the more base points you get per kill (Plus medals like headshots or double kills give slightly more points because of this.) As long as you don't die you can do many levels in MCC on normal with no skulls just by generally killing everything.Cut scenes in the middle of levels sadly ends your spree. However in CE at least, if you don't skip the cut scene then your spree doesn't end. Bring on 100 kills in a row gives you 60% more points a kill.
So you would say normal, with a focus on not dying and being relatively fast and eliminating all opponents in good fashion like sticks and melees and things with just a handful of skulls on?

Pretty sure you can complete them in normal with no skulls and get the high score achievement. I also do not know if they fixed the cut scene ending spree thing, though I doubt it.
Im doing all the par scores for Combat Evolved on Heroic with the No radar skull on and the skull that makes the weapons you pick up have half the ammo. Also The Boom ( 1x non scoring) skull on. I find that the 2x explosion radius helps get fast group kills. Able to complete the missions decently casually with a few deaths while stomping the par score.

After the recent par score patch all halo 4 levels, most halo 3 levels can be done on normal with 5 easy skulls on, including thunderstorm if you make sure you kill all enemies.
Par scores on some levels were lowered to make it easier! I think halo 2 especially all the levels have been basically halved. Heroic at x3 which was 6 skulls on (they were easy skulls) and I got all the halo 2 achieves. As for halo 3 being quick and again Heroic x3 will get them, just play safe and minimise deaths. Halo 4 I got them without even trying, scores for killing enemies seem to be high in that game. I only have ce left!!
can confirm. I have played the Reach campaign on all 4 difficulties and have never gotten a par score achievement on anything other than legendary... and I hit click heads pretty well nowadays
Hey just wondering, it's the first time I've tried your tips, and I'm trying to tackle Halo 4. Did I miss something? My points started to actually count down at a certain point. Does this happen when I die too much or take too long? I was trying Legendary with a few skulls on.
It happens when you take longer than the par time for the level. This does not mean that you'll not get the par score, but just keep your eye on the clock. For example, say sierra 117 is a 15 min par time and you get 80% though the level and you pass 15 min. Your time multiplier starts to drop so that means your overall score will drop. If your still above par score at that point just make sure you finish the level soon if you want to keep that multiplier somewhat high.
I think when this was originally posted, par scores were much harder to achieve. For Halo CE, 2, 3, and 4, the par score was 25,000 for each and every mission, but at some point in mid-late December of 2014, they ended up lowering the par scores for many missions as well as extending some of the par times. So while his advice is still helpful in better guaranteeing you hit the par scores, you can get away with a lot more missions nowadays by not going to such an extreme
Hey man nice video. Here are my thoughts (I've played halo for years): 1.) Play on Legendary difficulty and have competitive scoring on. - Competitive scoring yes, legendary... no. Heroic is a better choice. Sorry. 2.) Put on about 4 easy to play with Skulls. Yes, true but not always necessary. 3.) Play with a Co-op partner - Wouldn't recommend it. Your scores don't add together. It's easier alone where there isn't someone stealing your kills. 4.) Try to limit your dying and team killing. - Yes, but not the end of the world. This is why heroic is probably a better choice. Going through a level on heroic is rather easy. 5.) The time multiplier really helps your score. - True... another reason to use heroic. 6.) Killing big enemies and blowing up covenant vehicles/turrets give you a lot of points. This is true, good tip in general. My tips: Turn Fog on and Heroic. Run through the level. If you are lucky you get par score on the first run through. (Truth and Reconciliation and Silent Cartographer are examples of Halo 1 levels where this is all you need with decent times). If you don't believe me look up "Adverse" on youtube. e.g., ua-cam.com/video/2WNJ7KxNBdQ/v-deo.html. If that doesn't work, then you've now run through the level quickly and you know what to expect. Turn on a couple more skulls and try again. Use common sense. Many levels are great for the boom skull, but others in close quarters, don't use boom. There are an absolute ton of tips for each game (Because they are drastically different when approaching par scores), but each one could have their own video. ;) Just a thought.
MLGLegendary I do agree with some of your counter points. What I don't agree with is your thoughts on playing with a co-op partner. At 0:30 I stick the brute (with the arbiter) and it adds to the score, while at 0:45 David kills a grunt (with master chief) also adding to the overall score. So, I don't see why you think that having two people playing hurts the scoring. Adding to this, we both received the achievements for beating par score per level (thus, scoring it not tied to only one of the players). Secondly I made this video as a general guide to beating par score across all games. While I agree that each game has different mechanics, I believe these tips can help for all of the games regardless. Last, Heroic is an odd choice. I do think that on SOME levels heroic difficulty can work (for easier speed run levels and tank levels), but through my solo experience trying to play some Halo 2 levels, that I didn't even come close to par score (I was getting around 15K while par was 25K). So in your defense I think heroic could work, but for only some levels.

Right on man, heroic was the go to option when I best par scores in halo 3. Fewer deaths and faster runs for the time multiplier. Also the thunderstorm skull or w/e it's called that boosts enemy ranks is great, as it not only adds to your skull multiplier but gives you enemies that give bigger point returns
For halo ce par scores just use the boom skull the explosion radius is insane yll clear enemies a lot more faster some times a reaction chain will even catch u even if yr around the corner combine it with the grunts funeral and yr unstoppable
I just cant beat Cortana its so annoying. I cant find any videos on people par scoring that run except for that legendary "no shooting" thing which dont help at all. Was Cortana on Halo 3 easy for every one else? I'm starting to hate picking up my controller to play because how annoyed i get when i think about it.

As the multiplier goes down, does it eventually go down to x0? I was playing CE second level solo legendary and I was getting 0 points for each kill once I rounded that first Citadel. I never died and I felt that I didn't take long at all. Is it a bug?
Joshua Lewis I haven't played in a while but I believe when we were going for par score that some levels took so long that we would not be scoring any more points. This was happening for us a long time ago so I don't think it is a bug, just taking to long to complete a level.
Joshua Lewis The time it takes for the scoring to change to 0:00x varies on the levels par time. the 0x multiplier is always the levels par time x2 +10 minutes. As an example, the level regret has a par time of 15 minutes, so the multiplier becomes 0x at 40 minutes. The level 'Midnight' has a par time of 25 minutes, so the multipier becomes 0x at 60 minutes.
H3/H4 are a piece of cake with 3-4 people on Legendary Co-Op with 6+ skulls on... I was getting MASSIVE scores like 200k for levels, and did not have to worry about how many times I died at all. I'm still working on H1/H2, but H2 I've had some luck on Heroic + 3-4 skulls.
You can also get it by doing letal speedruns in Heroic, kill everyone you can and beat the level in the least amount of time, the time multiplayer will get you the score you need to get the achievement
okay so I’m kinda lost, back on 360 I would play halo 3 and complete a mission with a pretty good score, now when I’m halfway through a mission on MCC, out of nowhere my points start to go down. Is there a feature where I can prevent that from happening or did 343 ruin the good ol system? The scoring system is a joke it feels more like a race rather than rewarding points for getting killing sprees, headshots, etc.
why would you suggest setting it to competitive scoring? your score starts to go down pretty quickly after you pass the par time on competitive, and you don't even get the time multiplier. just set it to regular scoring so your score doesn't drop at all and you can get the time multiplier.
My younger brother and I casually played Halo 3 on Heroic Co-op. No skulls or nothing, died plenty of times, never really rushed...and we got par score on every level but 2...not even going for par score.
I hate compat scoring. I dont like it shows me a fake score number. I dont want to know what i could have, i want to see what i currently have. I want time and score and since they dont have time and score, i just stay on score and take my sweet time until the 0 shows on the screen. Then i figure out ways to speed up my kills. This is where plasma rifle comes into play. I usually find heric with skulls on at a 4.98 multipler. As far as kills, i usually dont die in the same spot twice, usually it is in a different spot and not all in the same section also. I play with grenades skull on because i see no difference with or without it on.

If you're still wondering, when you save and quit from a mission, it does indeed remember your score, but with a bit of a catch: every time you save and quit, the game deducts some points from your score as a penalty, the same way it would deduct if you paused and reverted to the last checkpoint. In fact, at least from what I noticed, the amount it deducts is actually the exact same as the amount it would deduct if you were to revert to the last checkpoint

Do you know why sometimes it seems that you stop accumulating points through kills? Also it seems that the Arbiter levels can be harder to beat par score on as then destroying ghosts driven by flood seemed to lose points. Sigh.
+12hampf Turn on competitive scoring instead of scoring (visible at 0:20). This will give you the readout on the bottom right of your HUD, which has the time under your score.
Just saying, Im 8 years too short but your time starts going down after you pass the par time, not a certain point through the level. So if you go really quickly, your points wil never go down.
Just beat a mission on Halo 2 with a score requirement of 15,000 with 41,000 achievement didnt unlock, saying I only got 8,000 (the score without the time multiplyer) [even though the time multiplyer applied for the previous missions] Its been two fucking years and this game is still buggy AF in some places....
Only on Competitive scoring that happens. I only use "Score". And an easy way to get the Par Scores is play on Normal difficulty with a few scoring skulls on. Like i use Thunder Storm, FOG, Eye Patch, Masterblaster, That's Just Wrong, and Streaking (Even though your shield doesn't auto recharge, if you keep getting kills without being hit/shot, you can end up getting overshield.) With all those skulls on on normal, if you complete Cairio station in say 18 minutes with a score of 7,785, you'll get a mission time multiplier which will double that score or more. Saves you all that struggle trying play on legendary. If you can't kill the White Elites, the easy way is to Shoot em with a charged plasma pistol (which takes down their shields), and quickly shoot em in the head with a battle rifle. With all those skulls that'll give you 122 for headshoting the elites. You can use the Jacked skull (1.20 multiplier) for The Arbiter as well because the banshees aren't ground vehicles.

Catch actually makes Halo 4 campaign insanely easy. You can assassinate basically every Knight due to the catch skull.

i play on normal with about 9 skulls on. it works and is less of a headache than dying on heroic or legendary at certain parts. also speedrun strats.
Did it with no skulls on Heroic, not sure how, but I got a majority of Halo 2 par scores just by playing through on Heroic.

Heroic is the perfect setting for me. Even on CE you can get the par score on most levels on normal difficulty.

I somehow randomly got the par score achievement for Metropolis, whilst playing on normal with no skulls. So it's definitively possible

If you enable a skull that give you some sort of buff like bandana it will remove any possibility of getting a score.

guasypoly28 Yeah. It gives mad score when in 4 player. In single though I cant seem to do 4's scores. The Forerunner are damn bullet sponges.

Yes there's an achievement for Par Score and Par Time on every level in the games

Thanks for making this video, I thought the whole par score thing was a bit imtimidating, but its much more clear now, Do you think that beating par score would be achievable with just myself?, cause its kind of a nuiscance to have to get someone to play with me to do it

Do you know why sometimes it seems that you stop accumulating points through kills? Also it seems that the Arbiter levels can be harder to beat par score on as then destroying ghosts driven by flood seemed to lose points. Sigh.
How do i turn on both scoring and time? I only have the option for one or the other
+12hampf Turn on competitive scoring instead of scoring (visible at 0:20). This will give you the readout on the bottom right of your HUD, which has the time under your score.
If your internet is bad wait till your household goes to bed
Just saying, Im 8 years too short but your time starts going down after you pass the par time, not a certain point through the level. So if you go really quickly, your points wil never go down.

Just beat a mission on Halo 2 with a score requirement of 15,000 with 41,000 achievement didnt unlock, saying I only got 8,000 (the score without the time multiplyer) [even though the time multiplyer applied for the previous missions]
Its been two fucking years and this game is still buggy AF in some places....
Were you using a buff skull with a 0.00 multiplier? ie. scarab skull

Only on Competitive scoring that happens. I only use "Score". And an easy way to get the Par Scores is play on Normal difficulty with a few scoring skulls on. Like i use Thunder Storm, FOG, Eye Patch, Masterblaster, That's Just Wrong, and Streaking (Even though your shield doesn't auto recharge, if you keep getting kills without being hit/shot, you can end up getting overshield.) With all those skulls on on normal, if you complete Cairio station in say 18 minutes with a score of 7,785, you'll get a mission time multiplier which will double that score or more. Saves you all that struggle trying play on legendary. If you can't kill the White Elites, the easy way is to Shoot em with a charged plasma pistol (which takes down their shields), and quickly shoot em in the head with a battle rifle. With all those skulls that'll give you 122 for headshoting the elites.
You can use the Jacked skull (1.20 multiplier) for The Arbiter as well because the banshees aren't ground vehicles.
DO NOT PUT ON COMPETITIVE SCORING! PUT ON SCORING THIS GUY IS INSANE IF YOU'RE DOING IT TOO SLOWLY THEN IT WILL TAKE AWAY POINTS!
The Misfit It will start taking away points either way. If you put on competitive scoring, it just shows them being taken away.
Destroying a shade turret or ghost etc after the driver was killed didn't give me extra points? Am I missing something?
