Stuff exists so that _in case_ it ever did come up, if your kid ever did see something they didn't understand and asked questions or expressed interest, it'd be there to help you explain it. Maher's argument is a sneaky way of saying such stuff shouldn't exist because it being visible means children run the risk of being sexualized. It plays right into the bad-faith right-wing philosophy that nothing to do with sex, gender or identity they hate should exist, publicly or privately. Drag queen story hour is not the same as sex education and sex education is not the same as pedophilia. I remember seeing my first out gay person when I was five and I asked my parents who and what they were. They and I wish we had the resources and societal acceptance to view them as normal back then, that answering such a question would've been easy. When we stop being threatened by the sheer existence of some people, we can have legitimate normal conversations about who and what they are, SEPARATE to the very real issues of sexual predation and pedophilia. Until then, stop both-sides-ing the argument.

I think what the teacher in the video forgot is it's not about her. It's about the students.
This reminded me of a recent post I read, kid was upset that his teacher has all kinds of Pro-Palestinian stuff pasted all over her walls, as well as BLM and a shrine to Greta Thunberg. The kid is jewish and the Pro-Pal stuff made him understandably comfortable. I don't think it's appropriate for a teacher to use her classroom as a soapbox for her causes, whatever they are, but apparently she thinks she's being super-woke and inclusive. And yet, her student feels uncomfortable and the teacher, like the one in the video, seems more concerned with herself and expressing her views.

As a guide to his parish in Berlin, I can affirm that Bonhoeffer supported trans people and gay and lesbian people against the Nazis, his parish did the same after the war against the East and West German governments. His church would later become a centre of the environmental movement in East Germany under pastor Hans Simon (who the East German govt freed nazis from prison to harass) a movement that lead to the fall of the Berlin Wall by church-goers who advocated real socialism, not russian-style theatre-government, following Bonhoeffer. I agree. Almost every country in Europe has children's rights. In the U.S., you're treated as more human when you're in the womb. After you're born, it's all "thoughts and prayers." Honestly, it's disgusting.
What exactly is being "done" to children these days? Are the teachers in your schools grooming your kids? Have you actually seen this happen, or just saw it online somewhere?
The sexual abuse of children is NOT new! Been gong on for centuries. It's just that in the last 30 years, we;ve finally begun to talk about it. MOST kids are abused by someone they know----and while it can be a coach or leader in their "church context"----fact is, it's usually someone IN THEIR FAMILY: father/stepfather, uncle, mom's boy friend--a relative. And the pressure is high to keep "the family secret" OR be kicked out of your own family.
I saw something the other day where someone was claiming that their 4 year old was trans. My gut reaction was to get that child away from them. Little kids know only what they are told, and most will want to do what ever they can to please their caregiver.
FYI: I am a successful, healthy loving gay man. I knew I was different at 5. Didn’t have the language for what I felt but knowing with time that I am gay. This is a common story among gay men. Cheers for the space being created today for not learning hate who we are.
Every day church leaders are arrested for actually sexually abusing children and people like you don't think anything of it. I don't see anyone up in arms about Christian schools where the church protects and transfers around repeat offenders. But those .000000000001% of trans people in the US population, who btw AREN'T being arrested for abuse, are all the right can talk about. Are people like you being paid by the church to distract and deflect? If you really cared about grooming you wouldn't be helping the groomers to distract and deflect.
children do in fact consistently present gender between the ages of 2 and 4, it's easier to identify with cis kids as queer kids often try to mask, probably the reason that more neurodiverse kids are trans is simply that they resist or are not capable of learning to mask. Masking is currently universally identified as a harmful behavioural coping mechanism, though it was once taught to neurodiverse kids (rather unsuccessfully) for social-acceptance reasons based on societally trained incompetence around teaching kids what kinds of people exist (neurodiverse, otherly-abled, gender variant, etc). A parent who doesn't know their childs gender at 4 years old is likely to not have spent a lot of quality time seeing that child as a human being.
Kids are highly susceptible. And they have no common sense. They have no point of reference. Its so terribly sad that adults who know better take advantage of them🤯
I agree, we had a generation of sexual abuse by BBC's biggest kid's show celebrity Jimmy Saville and everyone in authority chose to ignore the accusations...shame on them.
@@germantoenglish898 It’s the republican war on sex that is causing this. If we legalized prostitution and destigmatized mastur******, then this wouldn’t happen as often.
Its not only sad, its disturbing. Children are intentionally being indoctrinated. When I was growing up (Millennial) we were taught to "Treat others as you would want others to treat you." Simple, to the point, and it worked! Everyone was included in that simple, beautiful lesson regardless of race, age, sexuality, religion, income... etc. What is happening now is twisted.
It’s not the worse plan. I’ve got spina bifida and my friends’ children love it when I read them stories. Might be tricky to get kids to feel comfortable around the reader-I’ve had kids literally run and clutch their mother’s skirt when they see me. 😅 It’d also be good to de-emphasize the disability aspect. I’ve found that standing people are more willing to connect when they see how similar you are, rather than focusing on your differences.
The worst thing about all of this is that we're not allowed to criticize it on social media. I once became a witness of how two gay men wearing only leather jockstraps were touching their nether regions in the Rome subway, which then was full of kids going to school. I simply pointed out that I was disgusted by such behaviour displayed in the public, and for this Facebook disabled my comments and postings for a week, stating it was hate speech against the LGBTQIA+.
I mean, Pride month is supposed to be a celebration of gay people fighting against government oppression and homophobia, but instead some activists use it as an excuse to do anything they want, and we're not even allowed to point their actions to be inappropriate, even when they blatantly are.
I said non-binary was nonsense on LinkedIn, and they tried to say it was “hate speech”. My comment got to stay, but then HR wrote me up because I said the same thing about drag queen story hour. Excuse me for not wanting anything to do with Pride month!

God bless this man for bringing this to light - it needs to be.
My girlfriend was raped by a trusted family friend from ages 4 to 9. Then she was raped when she was 18. My heart breaks for anyone that's been through that.
As a fellow thrice rape victim starting at 15 that messed my life up I concor, but I was always thankful I didn't get abused as a child. I have many friends that were. I'm very sorry that happened to you. I stayed vigilant in my nieces and nephews lives so that wouldn't happen to them. It really fucks with kids lives, for the rest of their lives,
Yeah. They drown out all the rational moderate voices, so the public don't hear anything else and they think they have no option but to pick crazy on one side or the other.
I don't teach kids, but holy shit, if I did, I would be as nondescript as possible and try to teach them whatever subject I was supposed to teach them. They don't need to know anything about my sexuality. It's called being a "professional".
Everything is so PC now. I'm 61 and a teacher and I told a kindergartner that she looked beautiful. (She had on a beautiful dress, her mother had spent a lot of time doing her hair.) @@rabbit251 She doesn't need to be hearing from old men how she looks? That sounds sexist and ageist it me. Is the other teacher suggesting that it would OK if you were a young woman commenting on how the kid looks?
I'm a lifelong liberal, heterosexual. I don't know how "drag queen reading hour" became "a thing." IS it a thing? On this particular issue, I think Maher hits it on the head when he says that it "seems like it's more for the queens than for the kids." "Identity politics." Nothin against drag queens, but I think Maher's right on that one. Seems like it's more for the adult drag queens than for the kids. I think he's also right about kids going through phases. Gender reassignment seems to be a fad. In a different video, Maher says that he wanted to be a pirate when he was a kid, but that he's glad that his parents didn't go ahead and have one of his legs amputated so he could have a wooden peg leg. Why? Because six months after the pirate thing, he changes his mind and wants to be Spiderman, instead. Obviously, there ARE people/kids who in "the wrong body;" there ARE people who do benefit from gender reassignment surgery. And even more obviously, men and women should be able to do with their own bodies WHATEVER THE HELL THEY WANT TO. But kids are very impressionable, and they change their minds a lot. Give 'em a little more time to deliberate before you're like (as Maher says) "Hand me the dick saw!" It's a big decision, is all I'm saying.

Yeah, sure. But if Bill actually had any balls, he would have done so when the rest of us saw it, not 2-3 years later when the topic is "safe" to talk about.
He is politicizing protecting kids, what should be an apolitical story about child abuse in the industry is now another story about how drag queens and queer teachers are corrupting society. Also can we stop attacking underpaid teachers, literally doing gods work, for expressing their gender identity?
I suppose everything is inherently political So really what we need to do is get broad consensus on what "protecting kids" means, and what is more important than protecting kids Meaning - let's not see physical harm brought to any child, as much as possible, regardless of what else is going on
@@kendomyers Not everything is political, at least to me stuff become political when politicians run them as issues they plan to "solve" (usually just dance around the issue) As for protecting kids it's a really tough issue, especially when America (n politicians) would have to start with saying if they only care about American children or children worldwide, if worldwide then that opens up a big can of worms where they have to become the world police to even think of tackling the issue. But as a general goal it would be nice to properly define "protect the children" as a cause because it's been used many times to purity test the media and culture without much substance. Like with the Satanic panic era of wanting to remove/restrict (access to) violent music/movies/video games with "think of the children" coming up by the early Mom's against groups (currently Moms for Liberty is prob the most popular one, though "violent" has been replaced by some form of argument against degeneracy/indecency)

That silence is probably due to an equal mixture of fear of being turned upon by the woke mob and a slow cultural normalisation of what would have been considered child abuse 10 years ago. Meanwhile the parents sit back and bask in the applause of the left at how stunning and brave they are by proxy.
Most of the time the dads tried to prevent it, the moms forced them out, and nobody protected the child because the mom was too busy exploiting them for their own gain.
The creepiest thing about the documentary was that there was a case where the dad did literally everything he could think of to keep the kid safe on the set and it didn’t work, because the mom basically worked with the creeps to undermine him.
Speaking of DeSantis, remember when the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill (HB 1557) of two years ago whose stated goal was to prevent age-inappropriate discussions of sexual orientation was smeared as the "Don't Say Gay" bill? I repeat: _age-inappropriate_
I tend to disagree with Ron DeSantis on a lot of things as I find him to be extremely petty, spiteful and vindictive; but the only thing I agree with him on is Capital Punishment. Nikolas Cruz (the perpetrator of the tragedy at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida back in 2018) was facing the Death Penalty during his sentencing hearing (Cruz pleaded Guilty to all the charges filed against him) and at the time it was required by law in Florida for a jury to be unanimous in order for a criminal defendant to be sentenced to Death Row upon either being convicted after a trial or if the defendant has pleaded Guilty to the charges filed against them. While nine of the jurors voted to sentence him to be executed; three of the jurors voted to spare Nikolas' life due to falling for the sob story put forth by his lead defense attorney Melissa McNeil. Due to the jury not being unanimous in their decision; Broward County Circuit Court Judge Elizabeth Scherer had no choice but to impose thirty-four consecutive life sentences. At a press conference following the sentencing; Governor DeSantis berated the jurors who voted against sentencing Cruz to Death Row and ultimately reversed a decision by the Florida Supreme Court that required a unanimous jury in Death Penalty cases and passed legislation that allows for majority rule in Death Penalty cases in addition to other provisions. This was done to prevent "activist jurors" from being able to allow criminals such as Nikolas to get away with their actions as the general consensus (in both pro and anti Capital Punishment states) is that Cruz got away with his actions.

Cheers for the space being created today for not learning hate who we are.
what is the connection between Quiet on Set and trans kids????? can you please explain this???
Every day church leaders are arrested for actually sexually abusing children and people like you don't think anything of it. I don't see anyone up in arms about Christian schools where the church protects and transfers around repeat offenders. But those .000000000001% of trans people in the US population, who btw AREN'T being arrested for abuse, are all the right can talk about. Are people like you being paid by the church to distract and deflect? If you really cared about grooming you wouldn't be helping the groomers to distract and deflect.
@meanjustine8266 Apparently you didn't listen to what Bill said about heterosexuals.
children do in fact consistently present gender between the ages of 2 and 4, it's easier to identify with cis kids as queer kids often try to mask, probably the reason that more neurodiverse kids are trans is simply that they resist or are not capable of learning to mask.

The worst thing about all of this is that we're not allowed to criticize it on social media.

Nothin against drag queens, but I think Maher's right on that one. Seems like it's more for the adult drag queens than for the kids.

He is politicizing protecting kids, what should be an apolitical story about child abuse in the industry is now another story about how drag queens and queer teachers are corrupting society. Also can we stop attacking underpaid teachers, literally doing gods work, for expressing their gender identity?
Bill's side is the issue.
It's already been politicized so there is no real going back from that
I suppose everything is inherently political
So really what we need to do is get broad consensus on what "protecting kids" means, and what is more important than protecting kids
Meaning - let's not see physical harm brought to any child, as much as possible, regardless of what else is going on
@@kendomyers Not everything is political, at least to me stuff become political when politicians run them as issues they plan to "solve" (usually just dance around the issue)
As for protecting kids it's a really tough issue, especially when America (n politicians) would have to start with saying if they only care about American children or children worldwide, if worldwide then that opens up a big can of worms where they have to become the world police to even think of tackling the issue.

He's not liberal.
I agree, but I really wish he used the word grooming instead of entrapment to describe how children are being force fed gender ideology in schools. Although that could have been deliberate, I have read liberal media corporate owners have forbidden its staff and journalists from using the term "grooming" in relation to children and the LGBT movement.
@@connievino4226 Yes, this is problem as definitions get twisted. Republicans like to lump socialism in with communism but few people really understand the meanings from a political science perspective because it has all simply become political. People used to know these things, but we have dumbed down America so much. Trump really isn't a what we consider conservative Republican as he is a Populist, he just says what he thinks people what to hear and mostly about culture like this because this is an easy win against liberals.
But remember how bad racism used to be? At 61 I remember. My brother's wife is black and I have to remember from time to time because I never think of it. Now my wife is Chinese, my daughter speaks 3 languages and never has a problem. My son, however, is often confused with being a Latino and gets spit on and called or told terrible things. Where does that come from I wonder. Two steps forward, one step back.

THANK YOU BILL!! 👏🏻 This was exceptionally articulated! And SO important! While keeping it light enough to digest. Thank you thank you!! 🙏🏻
Maher has been on fire the last three weeks! A much needed voice!
He is trying to win over centrists to the Left. What better way to do it that use Right leaning ideas?
@@dougbrowne9890 You make a valid point! But I think the choice is clear for 2024…
just wait 10 years, he'll be saying the opposite thing again. the guy believes in his wallet.
I will never understand why these children's parents aren't blamed.
That silence is probably due to an equal mixture of fear of being turned upon by the woke mob and a slow cultural normalisation of what would have been considered child abuse 10 years ago. Meanwhile the parents sit back and bask in the applause of the left at how stunning and brave they are by proxy.
Because the current government is pushing the same agenda and it's too risky to openly accuse them if you disagree because of cancelation! I feel you!
bc the Left won't allow it
Most of the time the dads tried to prevent it, the moms forced them out, and nobody protected the child because the mom was too busy exploiting them for their own gain.
The creepiest thing about the documentary was that there was a case where the dad did literally everything he could think of to keep the kid safe on the set and it didn’t work, because the mom basically worked with the creeps to undermine him.
I'm agreeing with you more every day Bill. This was as spot on as it gets.
Yeah, as a gay man and a Southerner, I could see through that like a thong on a Kardashian.
That bill was still dangerous despite how it was talked about in media.
Yeah , too bad Desantis had alot of other agenda going on
I can't believe Maher is calling it out!
He’s literally been doing this for 3 years…go back and watch the videos…
lazarheaD - you do know bill's been calling out people out for decades weather you're on the left or right. It's one or the reasons his show (politically incorrect) was cancelled on ABC back in the days. He's always been calling anyone out on the left or right
He always calls out hypocrisy and terrible behaviour, no matter who's doing it.

As a speech therapist I believe you are there for kids as a trusted adult. You are not there to influence them for any sort of agenda. If those teachers can do what they say they are doing then any other teacher can interject overly conservative and/or religious beliefs and that is wrong too. Thanks Bill for highlighting this!
Thank you, Bill.
Bill, Thank you, billiantly stated, all of it. You find a way to say what no one else can or dares too and people actually listen! You have a gift. ❤
Today, after many, many years, I, and Bill Maher are together on a topic. I sit here, shaking, and in tears, thinking about what I experienced. I'm not an actor, just an adult victim of child perverts. Those people in Hollywood are evil and deserve consequences. Thank you, Bill Maher.

Wiser words have not been spoken...Thank you.
The left and the right have swung so far to their extremes, that Bill is the voice of reason and practicality. Very good content Mr. Maher.
Incorrect, on this issue and many more. Only one side is chasing extremism right now. It's so bad that classic liberals like Bill Maher don't fit in.
So the extreme left is pro pedophile, pro transitioning children, antisemitic, pro crime, and pro illegal immigration. The extreme right wants to stop illegal immigration and abortion. Do you think those two sides are really equally extreme?
The right hasn't moved. They only APPEAR to have moved because the gap between left and right has grown as a result of the left moving further left. It's an illusion. Take position after position (taxes, abortion, guns, whatever), and conservatives aren't much different than they were back in the 80's.
which is SHOCKING that the Limo Liberal that he is, has some how become "middle" even though he is still far left. 3 years ago, i couldnt even listen to him. and he has finally become WOKE to the BS of the extreme liberal leftist.... and yes the extreme fringe right are just as dumb.
Not the left and the right. Just the left. This is self criticism from Maher.
The right has mostly stood in the same place.
Absolutely brilliant, M. Maher.
This from a conservative!
You're doing more to wake people up than even the GOP...
Happy to see Bill Maher opening his eyes to this, ridiculously late, but still...
20-30 years late
It's become so bad that even he can see it now.
Seriously, the Hollywood stuff has been going on for half a century. The stuff in schools and libraries has been in overdrive for the better part of a decade now.
Agree. This whole sad issue of preying on kids for adult agendas seems new to him... but to me it's like "duh."
He started out this way, he'll flip again, as long as the controversy makes him money.
I have to totally agree with Bill on this one leave the kids be kids
I have many, many disagreements will Bill Maher, but I'm glad that he's telling his own side that it's okay to have opinions beyond "republicans bad."
Too many people on all sides don't have their own opinions, they just pick the opposite of whatever their enemies appear to believe. Which leads them to choose the dumbest possible hills to die on, and ironically give their enemies huge wins.
On this I agree. Maher does have the right to his opinions. And I can disagree with some of what he says, but also find some truth. Nuanced approach. Thank you

Maybe parents should pay attention because without their approval and push, these kids would NOT be used like this.
The parents want to vicariously live through their kids' fame. And also the paycheck.
So with your logic any kid without protection is fair game? Way to go giving a pass to child predators
