Ac4 had some of the best characters, starting with Edward Kenway who in my opinion, had the best character development. Hard to look away from such an awesome game.
The ghosts at the table gets me. As I've gotten older and life and circumstance whittled away the people I have, I can look back at those days and just feel melancholic. Those are the people that had a hand in shaping you, good or bad. Your pals. Loved ones. That one bastard you didn't care for but didn't hate that made you laugh so it's cool. Gone and not all that gone alike. I appreciate the time we had, even if it don't seem like it. Guess I'll have a drink to em. And this game. Really knows how to get ya in the feels.
It was a nice touch, including that little detail at 4:40 of the guy's wine bottle falling over and him taking a swig from it. They didn't have to include that little detail, but they did anyway to make the scene more organic.
At 27:13 I'll fully admit, I still she'd a tear. I tried so hard to save him, I wanted him, needed him to make it. Although I believe that is how a pirate like him would have preferred to fall. "If I cant make my fifth quiet and cozy I'd sink to the devil's doorstep than call myself captain another year". Blackbeard got his wish. I love this game, the story, the characters, Thatch, Kenway, Kidd, Adawalé. Next chance I get I'm buying this game again just to experience the world at this time period.
@Alex Morgan The first time I played this game, I literally did everything I could possibly do before I went to Okracoke. I kept putting it off because I knew what was going to happen there.
Lads that's how Edward thatch died in real life too, if you read history books the date n year of death n the location are exact from the game. I knew it since the beginning that they'd cover this event but damn they way they did.. brilliant writing n cinematography..
27:49 fucking hell... that will always be an instant tear jerker. It was already extremely sad when just playing the game, but I also played that my 16yr old cat was put down. I miss you little guy
This is perhaps the best AC game for characters. Characters you like, ones you are sad to see go. Blackbeard is one of the best characters I’ve come across, and based on the reports this is an fairly accurate portrayal. His voice work is spectacular, his dialogue is enthralling to listen to and his manner is very likeable.
@Rustymcnut I've studied the Golden Age of Piracy for years and I think so, too. I was very impressed with the portrayal of the historical figures, especially Blackbeard.
Sevvina I just noticed in the scene Edward was aiming his pistol at the guy that beheaded Thatch right before he could stop him from killing Thatch. An instant too slow to save his best friend, and now the tragedy of the scene has just intensified tenfold.
In the afterlife Edward and Blackbeard. Blackbeard: you see that Kenway, your grandson has restored your family honor! Kenway: true, I'm so proud of the young lad! Blackbeard: definitely got pirate inheritance from ya and I'll drink to that.😂😂
He knew how to be a showman in a way. And his last show was as a head on the front of the ship that bested him. He came with a bang and went out with a boom. Best part 16:19 and 16:50
@@pastorofmuppets4552 Yeah but you actually get a blueprint for the figurehead while you just get the wheel for completing missions so i in my headcanno edward stole the wheel
I think this is still the best portrayal of Edward Teach/Thatch that I’ve seen, Ray Stevenson was good in Black Sails but nowhere near as complex as this one.
You should watch the new pirates documentary on Netflix black beard looked and sounded fucking crazy but thatch was alot calmer and talked normal really good documentary and very informative
“ These were my only terms, and yet, 6 days of pure f***ing silence, so I must conclude that you men are the Pariahs of Charles- Towne, and I would profit better by using your organs for chum and your bones for char”- Blackbeard.
Holy shit, I played this game at launch, and another time not too long ago, plus watched clips of that scene a lot of times on YT, and never noticed that! Truly a good eye!
I like the tiny detail when Blackbeard talks about fools and the devil. He looks over at Bonnet, who he essentially sees as said fool, because he's seen how Bonnet captains his ship. As Blackbeard takes charge, Bonnet gradually gets phased out and is disliked by his men because of the choices he makes. Thus his speech about fools and the devil holds up: "If a man plays the fool, it's only fools he'll persuade". Bonnet played a fool when he should've been more commanding, and he lost his crew because of it.
Adde - "Diving them recks would be a nice change of pace for us, no need to violent actions against merchants and such." Thatch - "Well, that's some soft talk coming from a pirate. As it happens, I mostly agree." Even when agreeing with you, he picks the scary path.
2:16 When I saw Mary Read with a hidden blade when I first played this game, I was curious if she was an Assassin or just picked it up from a dead Assassin like Haytham and Edward did.
A bit nostalgic, isn't it? Blackbeard was the first character cut I watched of yours, and was why I subscribed. And you have been more than kind. Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Man. To think there was a time where Ubisoft actually tried and succeeded in making a masterpiece of a game. Well, almost. Scratch the tailing missions and ship stealth and boom, there, masterpiece No but honestly, AC 4 still sticks with me even after all these years, sad to see how things have turned out the way they did. I do have to say tho, check out Blackbeards German voice, ngl, he sounds even more badass in German if you ask me, the voice actors really nailed this one to the teeth
Without a doubt, out of all of them, Blackbeard was probably the most dedicated pirate of the Brethren, rough around the edges and a bit scary at times, he seemed to know what being a true sailor/buccaneer was all about, I really don't think any of the others ever reached his level of seafaring acumen.
Fact: Edward Teach or “Blackbeard” never killed anyone until the very end where he had an incredible showdown with the authorities and took an incredible amount of damage before death. After being beheaded and tossed overboard, his headless body was said to swim-circle the ship a few times before sinking to the depths. The authorities stuck Blackbeard’s head on a skewer at the front of their ship as a message of triumph over piracy. Fact: Sometimes entire towns surrendered their loot to him before he even set foot on the shore. He was arguably the best fear tactic mind-warfare utiliser of his time. Fact: Edward Teach or “Blackbeard” was 6’5”. The average height for contemporary men at this age was around 5’5.
i always loved how ac used its setting for the story and changed some things and showed the true character of some old officials, like washington not being a good guy and black beard being a likable fun guy
Rogue's story was as strong as Black flag. There are two differences with Rogue. One is that shay was pretty much like Connor: idealistic, determined, courageous, and open-hearted. The second is about shay being turned into a Templar after his conviction in the Assassins is shaken. Connor was shocked by Achilles' constant apathy and Haytham's strong views yet he never strayed off the path-he kept being an Assassin. Shay and Connor are literally two sides of the same coin called conviction. Connor wanted freedom for the colonies and had to settle for security. Shay wanted to save the colonies and had to settle for taking control of ALL of it. Connor's brotherhood is better than Achilles because of what Shay did. Connor is a better man because he understands the world now. Shay is an older man because he accepts that he's just a cog in the machine now.
At the ending Thatch nodded his head, could have just been a reaction to something one of the others said but to me it seemed like Thatch was telling Edward "this is the right choice".
the end when Anne is singing always makes me cry. If I would name the game that is my fav of all time, its probably this. The story, the characters, all of it. I love pirates and golden age and it makes me kinda sad how it all ended. The dream of freedom just ended back then. The only AC I would love to see today with updated visuals - although it is still great.
It does, even the first version of the animus has that feature, Subject 1 tells that to Vidic in a enterview about the memories of Aveline. After all, smells are very related to memories.
I agree with u! Like the newer ones are out of touch. Like they are more like something else than it originally used to be. The older ones are way better and are not something else other than what they’re supposed to be
Are there ever times where you literally don’t care about the gameplay and just watch the cutscenes of games? Because that’s literally all I do. Man, I could see a movie portraying Edward Teach like this. I think we all need a REAL Blackbeard movie in our life.
This depiction of him is the best in media imo. Most movies and stuff portray him as a terrifying pirate that took no prisoners. But historians have found he was quite honorable when not pirating. He often played games and got drunk with his shipmates for fun, and was said to have been very vocal and fun to be around. He was terrifying when you were his enemy, but as a friend he'd be the guy you could grab a beer with and get into all sorts of shenanigans
Such a badass and hillarious introduction! "Go on, tell me im under arrest... TELL ME!!!" You can almost hear "captain queernabs'(?)" shit hit the sand
Its perhaps one of the more accurate portrayal of him as well. Many portrayals of Blackbird is that of a blood thirsty pirate but historically he was very intelligent, tended to avoid bloodshed if its was possible as crews on those ships he raided not only was a source of potential new crew members but also a source of propaganda. Creating the image of himself being a scary as hell pirate did wonders in encouraging your prey to give up without a fight and create a crap ton of stories.. He was also very human . There is a throwaway line in Pirates of the Caribbean that many people miss when Jack Sparrow is in the jail cell with other pirates and one of them speaks of the legend of the Black Pearl about it never leaving survivors. Jack says no survivors so where to the stories comes from I wonder making the pirates give pause and think on the realization that there would be survivors for the stories to spread. Blackbird loved survivors. They made good stories. .

thatch knows his time in the world is up during the assault; him shouting for kenway right at the end is not to ask for his help, but to deliver his final message... or his final lament, if you will;
"in a world without gold, we might have been heroes!"
The best AC ever... no discussion
Paule Uh yes discussion. It was more of a pirate game than an AC game. I mean I liked it too but I hated the fact that Edward became an Assassin at the end of the game.
Pranav Nair mmh okay You Are right... But it was the best Pirate game
Paule agreed
This is the only AC that I've ever played so far, and it's a great game to me. I really can't argue with you for that.
Paule I completely agree
Ac4 had some of the best characters, starting with Edward Kenway who in my opinion, had the best character development. Hard to look away from such an awesome game.
Blackbeard is one of the three Kenway friends who never betrayed Edward Kenway.
Vane did not steer Edward I had just mad
Aye, he does a good loyalty to Edward.

Just his presence diffused that tense situation. Love it.
"Legends ain't born from mildness."
Remember these words. There's more wisdom than most can swallow in them.
It was a nice touch, including that little detail at 4:40 of the guy's wine bottle falling over and him taking a swig from it. They didn't have to include that little detail, but they did anyway to make the scene more organic.

16:49 One of the best comedic breaks from a tense moment in the game.
@Alex Morgan
The first time I played this game, I literally did everything I could possibly do before I went to Okracoke. I kept putting it off because I knew what was going to happen there.
Lads that's how Edward thatch died in real life too, if you read history books the date n year of death n the location are exact from the game. I knew it since the beginning that they'd cover this event but damn they way they did.. brilliant writing n cinematography..
🙂@@Sevvina
27:49 fucking hell... that will always be an instant tear jerker. It was already extremely sad when just playing the game, but I also played that my 16yr old cat was put down. I miss you little guy

This is perhaps the best AC game for characters.
Characters you like, ones you are sad to see go.
Blackbeard is one of the best characters I’ve come across, and based on the reports this is an fairly accurate portrayal.
His voice work is spectacular, his dialogue is enthralling to listen to and his manner is very likeable.
@Rustymcnut
I've studied the Golden Age of Piracy for years and I think so, too. I was very impressed with the portrayal of the historical figures, especially Blackbeard.
Sevvina
I just noticed in the scene Edward was aiming his pistol at the guy that beheaded Thatch right before he could stop him from killing Thatch.
An instant too slow to save his best friend, and now the tragedy of the scene has just intensified tenfold.

All the sads. T_T

I think this is still the best portrayal of Edward Teach/Thatch that I’ve seen, Ray Stevenson was good in Black Sails but nowhere near as complex as this one.
+MoonBoone
I agree.
You should watch the new pirates documentary on Netflix black beard looked and sounded fucking crazy but thatch was alot calmer and talked normal really good documentary and very informative
I miss this game, hope it gets remastered soon
I think it still holds up really well.

Thatch is a great actor, he plays the part of something straight out of hell so well especially when scaring Bonnet.
Adde - "Diving them recks would be a nice change of pace for us, no need to violent actions against merchants and such."
Thatch - "Well, that's some soft talk coming from a pirate. As it happens, I mostly agree."
Even when agreeing with you, he picks the scary path.
2:16
When I saw Mary Read with a hidden blade when I first played this game, I was curious if she was an Assassin or just picked it up from a dead Assassin like Haytham and Edward did.
And I was looking for Calico Jack
I absolutely love the voice acting! Best Assassins Creed game!
A bit nostalgic, isn't it? Blackbeard was the first character cut I watched of yours, and was why I subscribed. And you have been more than kind. Cheers, and keep up the good work.

Hard to believe that I've been working on this for as long as I have. Thanks again for your continued support!

Edward Thatch died like a warrior with honor
Man. To think there was a time where Ubisoft actually tried and succeeded in making a masterpiece of a game. Well, almost. Scratch the tailing missions and ship stealth and boom, there, masterpiece
No but honestly, AC 4 still sticks with me even after all these years, sad to see how things have turned out the way they did.
I do have to say tho, check out Blackbeards German voice, ngl, he sounds even more badass in German if you ask me, the voice actors really nailed this one to the teeth
No matter how many flaws this series has, it always can write good character’s that will be remembered for a long time
Without a doubt, out of all of them, Blackbeard was probably the most dedicated pirate of the Brethren, rough around the edges and a bit scary at times, he seemed to know what being a true sailor/buccaneer was all about, I really don't think any of the others ever reached his level of seafaring acumen.
16:33 the voice cracks actually make him scarier
They couldn't have picked a better voice actor for his character 😎
@Edward James Kenway you misunderstood, he said the voice actor couldnt get any better cause the actor was already as good as it gets
The saddest death in all of assassin's creed. Blackbeard's life is worth more than a million other peoples.
It was sadder that it was just was his retirement
I just realized that Hornigold was talking about weed when he said Jamaican funk
I love AC games they have really put in drama and action into a perfect fusion well at least the pervious gen games
The average height for contemporary men at this age was around 5’5.
nice to know thanks for sharing mate

"In a world without gold, we might have been heroes!" - Edward Thatch aka. Blackbeard

UNCORK THIS MAN'S BREAKFAST
I love how happy he sounds
i always loved how ac used its setting for the story and changed some things and showed the true character of some old officials, like washington not being a good guy and black beard being a likable fun guy
Easily the best character in Black Flag, easily. Shed many manly tears when I saw him cut down before my eyes.
+Isaias Valladares
I like your analysis.
At the ending Thatch nodded his head, could have just been a reaction to something one of the others said but to me it seemed like Thatch was telling Edward "this is the right choice".
Backup account given the horrible fate they all suffered I’d wager that’s what he was saying
the end when Anne is singing always makes me cry. If I would name the game that is my fav of all time, its probably this. The story, the characters, all of it. I love pirates and golden age and it makes me kinda sad how it all ended. The dream of freedom just ended back then. The only AC I would love to see today with updated visuals - although it is still great.
god I hope the animus doesnt have smell simulation. Everybody would've stunk back then
I'd imagine the scent of sea salt and gunpowder would drown it out.
It does, even the first version of the animus has that feature, Subject 1 tells that to Vidic in a enterview about the memories of Aveline.
After all, smells are very related to memories.
I fucking love that intro "Go on captain Queernaps, tell me I'm under arrest😏. TELL ME!!!🤬"
Edward Teach “The pirate that all pirates fear.”
This is why the older AC games are superior than today's AC
I agree with u! Like the newer ones are out of touch. Like they are more like something else than it originally used to be. The older ones are way better and are not something else other than what they’re supposed to be
Are there ever times where you literally don’t care about the gameplay and just watch the cutscenes of games? Because that’s literally all I do. Man, I could see a movie portraying Edward Teach like this.
I think we all need a REAL Blackbeard movie in our life.
Awesome collection! my favourite iteration of Blackbeard was no doubt Black Sails!
9:20 the voice acting in this whole paet is just awesome, going full pirate
My heart breaks the minute I hear, “ He drinks damnation”.
I love love love love to whach assassin Creed
Raises bottle of rum, "cheers Thatch!"
Ryan_K _ Quite right
This depiction of him is the best in media imo.
TELL ME!!!" You can almost hear "captain queernabs'(?)" shit hit the sand

i love this version of blackbeard, the game show us a very human with feelings version of him
Its perhaps one of the more accurate portrayal of him as well.
They made good stories. .
