"BECAUSE I SAID SO." Wow, Haytham. And in that moment, I swear that all the teenage players cringed because they could hear their own parents in Haytham's voice.
@Haytham Kenway The way they went about it though is so misleading. If lee's intention is only to buy the village and keep them safe then why is he so violent towards connor and even belittling his people while holding him from his neck. That is why the twist in AC3 is so confusing. If the templars just want to protect the natives by buying their land then there is no need for forceful or violent entry. There was also one guy in the game that was killing natives because they refused to have their land sold and he started killing them because "they wouldnt let themselves be protected".
Erin Elliott the reason why he did because he still loved her she had left him because he lied but he couldn’t get over her she was his only and first love
bradhuygens Yeah I agree , I liked the scenes with Connor and Haytham. Actually for some reason I liked Haytham most. Maybe cause he was the first character that is used in the animus in this game , I don't know ... I mean he is a damn Templar and a cunt in some occasions ( for instance he always kills prisoners after they speak) but I liked him.
bradhuygens Some of my favourite parts were when Haytham was acting like a full on Dad, gnoring that Connor is a full grown man, he still says stuff like "Never you mind, just do as I ask" or "You go and get him because I told you too"
In a way, Haytham used the time he had left before dying to tell Connor he was proud of him as a father. It's kind of one thing that every man would want their fathers to say, that they are proud of them
It was more of irony than anything. Haytham did care for Connor(Felt terrible when he found out his lover died PLUS during the Valley Forge scene where he says "son..." Haytham pretty much implied, "I'm proud of you BUT god damnit, if it wasn't for my paternal feelings toward you...our plans would've succeeded..." to where Haytham let Connor kill him in a way since he was conflicted in his fight
Yes, and imidiately after that, he tells him that he should have killed him long ago. :D I do not think that is stuff that every man wants to hear from father :D
The Kenway family is the most complex and best family in assassin's creed. What other family can boast a Pirate assassin, the son of an assassin who becomes a Templar, and a native American assassin who had to kill his own templar father.
its close to home for me and I'm sure so many others cause both are males who see a certain way of doing things and prefer to see their way carried out. they're different sides of the same coin and they either don't realize it or don't like it.
Altair too killed the public speakers that hand nothing to do with crimes of his targets, only posessed information. They weren't "innocent" by assassin's rules either.
@@legatlanius8259I actually think Altair was more ruthless (and kinda bad) than Haytham. Haytham was actively against killing innocent civilians, all the people he killed were either mercs or soldiers, both of whom did bad stuff. Altair on the other hand killed random innocent people just so he had no chance of being recognized. I honestly hated Altair, he was the only Assassin I just couldn't stand. He was a little bit better in Revelations as he became more humble and wise with age (plus the apple helped).
"I never knew him. Not really. I thought I had, but it wasn’t until I read his journal that I realized I hadn’t really known him at all. And it’s too late now. Too late to tell him I misjudged him. Too late to tell him I’m sorry." -Connor about Haytham in the book, Forsaken 😭
Connor literally said what he has been through. Plus the fact that being a Native American, he's also not as easily accepted into the more modern civilization. Considering those, it's understandable why Connor is mostly stoic and seemed emotionless. I mean, come on, Ezio's great and all (I personally think he's overrated considering how long we spent with him), but not everyone can be Ezio.
crashpal Not necessarily. We know the tide can turn at any time. The Kenway saga is a proof of that. Edward almost destroys the assasins, then he proceeds to hunt down the templars. Haytham and Shay practically extinguished the assasins of america. Connor destroyed the templars again. It's just a war whose tide changes continuosly.
Maybe in Haytham's eyes Birch and Birch alone ruined his life. But not the Templars. He believed in their ways and was willing to do right by the Templar teachings. And maybe the reason why he trusted Birch is because he was there after the attack on his home. He took him under his wing and trained him. Became a second father to him. Besides he avenged his father and saved his sister. Haytham even said that he found some similarities with the Templars and Assassins (whatever that is, but maybe their desire for peace). Even after reading forsaken, my view of Haytham remains the same. He was an honorable man. Who has had such a tragic life. An anti hero. But a good one.
Still Haytham came to Birch with an intent to kill. It doesn't matter who delivered the final blow. I don't quite understand what you mean "treated his family". He saved Jennifer. Sure he may have kept information from Connor, but he was only trying to make him see that he was siding with the wrong men. I don't think he was trying to convert him to a Templar. Haytham believed in Birch's teachings but he still killed his father and took away his childhood. Even though Birch tried to defend his actions as for the greater good, that doesn't change the fact that he ordered the attack on his home and that was something personal for Haytham. Haytham and Jennifer kept in touch, she was only disappointed with her brother's decision to remain a Templar, but that wasn't reason for her to distance herself. They wrote to each other but rarely since they had nothing much talk about their lives. Also after the revelation, he said that it doesn't go against everything his father stood for and that he found similarities between the two Orders. Most probably that similarity is their desire for peace.
I really like Connor’s growth through the series of AC 3. Connor does something no other AC character has done up to this point: try to understand the Templars and possibly unite with the Templars. He does try to work with his father but in the end he comes to the conclusion they can’t work together. He comes out as a better man and understands more of the fight between the two. And he just doubles down on the freedom and choice of all after everything Washington and Haytham put him through. He is a great character and isn’t the dull guy a lot of people say he is.
Haytham stayed his hand more than once. If he wanted he could have killed Connor, he had many opportunities. But he still couldn't bring himself to it. Be it some sort of sense of fatherhood or plain simply trying to convert Connor into a Templar, he did stay his hand. Even in the end, where he could have simply fled with Lee or stabbed Connor with his own hidden blades. Haytham is my favorite character in the AC Universe after Ezio. And just to think that he's Edward's son, that shy boy at the theatre... Well... I'm just sure Edward would have been proud to see his son become a great man even if he fought for the opposite side; Just like Haytham was of Connor, in the exact situation.
+TheDezembro I feel the way Haytham died was a little cheap, surely he knew his son could stab him with his hidden blade if he let go of his hand. Was a wee bit retarded, if you ask me. Definitely one of my favorite characters as well.
Also I think it is worth mentioning Connor later regrets killing Haytham because he read his personal diary and learned a lot about his life and thoughts, that's why he wrote "Sakataterihwàhten" ("I've lost my way") under Haytham's portrait in the homestead. And of course there was a long monologue scrapped out in the final game in which he speaks about a lot of interesting stuff. Just sayin' it for all the people who complain about Connor mindlessly killing Haytham because he is a rude generic terminator with no characterisation.
Be honest with yall, connor has the saddest story out of all the assassin creed games! First he has to see his mother burn to death, then he had to kill his father and his childhood friend! At the end his people had leave him and his mentor had also die!
Edward's origin story as seen in Black Flag was quite sad too. He has to see all of his friends die, is betrayed, and at the end of it all finds out that his wife died before he could return home with a fortune like he promised. At least he gets to see and raise his daughter.
i dunno man, ezio had his father and his 2 brothers killed. plus, his family name was dragged through the mud and everybody treated them like outcasts. i mean, wearing the auditore cape sets your notoriety at max and you can't bring it down; it symbolizes their tarnished name.
7:38 makes me sad 😢 “You could have killed me when we first met-what stayed your hand?" "Curiosity. Any other questions?" In the book, Forsaken, this is what Haytham wrote in his journal about Connor's question: "I could have let you die at the gallows, I thought. I could have had Thomas kill you in Bridewell Prison. What stayed my hand on those two occasions also? What was the answer? Was I getting old? Sentimental? Perhaps I was nostalgic for a life I never really had." 💔
Reminder that the game are ALL Animus projected, so not everything accurate to what happened in the real world events. The Journals and informations written are more than depicted in the games.
8:44 - 8:59 While Haytham does make a good point about politics, I feel the same could be said about the Templars: privileged men making decisions that only benefit them, whilst doing it under the guise of "the greater good" of mankind.
"very well. I'll wait here then" "of course you will" "oh, I'm sorry. Would you like me to come along and hold your hand? Provide kind words of encouragement?" Apply cold water on the burned area
fantasticmoose Red the book AC forsaken. Haytham never wanted to kill Connor, but also didnt want to betray his order the Templars, so he wanted Connor to kill him, If Haytham was fighting seriously he would destroy Connor.
fantasticmoose watch that scene again. Connor doesn't use the hidden blade. he uses a dagger to stab his arm, and later when he's holding him down, it's clearly in his hand, a full on blade.not a hidden one. that's why when he lets go of it, Haytham moves both hands to apply more pressure to strangling him. now wether or not he knew he had a hidden blade there may be up for debate..if he did, perhaps he though Connor to weak to lift his arm at that point...if he didn't, makes sense not to worry about his hand when there's no weapon anymore.
Was one of the most disappointing parts of that scene. You'd think Connor would look a bit more sad and frustrated considering that guy was his dad, despite them being enemies. "Good Bye Father" ruined how good the scene was.
Yeah at first i was confused as well. But he most likely meant by that that he didnt know his son personally and it would be easier for him to end Connor's life and save the Templar order in the colonies if everything would turn out like that
It’s really said when you read Forsaken. Haytham’s connection to the Templars was born from lies and treachery. And his discovery of these facts were during the events of ACIII. Haytham was going to use his last encounter with Connor to reveal his truths to him. Even Connor himself regretted killing Haytham. The Kenway family truly is one of the most unfortunate families in this story.
@@kohtahirano4546 Desmond does have a son inthr comics. It was also hinted at back in AC4. But that plotline sort of just goes ignored by the mainline series.
People often say Connor is emotionless and is just bland, but if you think about it, the guy watched his mother burn to death, killed his OWN father, killed his OWN best friend, his mentor died, and his people left him, he didn't know where to go or what was next, you can't expect him to be smiling everywhere he goes and ignore the past. I find his personality very admirable and he's honestly the best character of the entire franchise- at least to me he is. You can't expect every assassin to be the same as Ezio, it would just get boring. (No hate on Ezio though, he's also a very good character as well)
@@trekadouble757 Connor smiled when he received his hidden blades he also smiled when he escorted his friend in the aisle in her wedding and he chuckled in the dlc while talking about edward.
what's ironic about Haytham killing the prisoners was that in the first game the assassin's ALWAYS had to do this. Altair even mentioned it was risky to spare a spy or enemy. Now the assassin's have moved away from that view. To be fair though Haytham was a special case.
Did OP and the 150+ people who liked this ignorant comment forget that "Stay one's blade from the flesh of the innocent" is LITERALLY the first of 3 tenets of the Assassins? Altair got "killed" and demoted for breaking those tenets and the entire first game is about him letting go of his arrogance. Casual fans.....
@@karangtavana1283 Altair literally got demoted to novice rank for doing so. Or have you only seen the first 5 minutes of the first game in a UA-cam video like most "fans" here seem to be?
@@Commander_Shepard. No, they're talking about when you interrogate people as Altair he immediately kills them right after. This happens way after he killed the innocent man and get demoted you fucking casual
How I expected the battle between Connor and Haytham to go down: Haytham: You've shown promise, but I'm your father! We can make this country better together! Connor: Achilles was a better father than you! *people appear out of nowhere* OOOHHHHHHHH!!!!
Connor was justice personified. Unbiased and unfazed by the torrential opinions and rationalizations about him. He waded through the unbelievably complicated dogma of both assassins and templars and came out the other end fighting for the liberty of all mankind, the true motive of the assassins. This is why his order succeeded, where Achilles’ failed.
I dunno about that. Connor was mostly blinded by vengeance. Misguided vengeance since it wasn't Charles Lee who burned his village. It was Washington, and he supported the future president all the way even when he discovered what he did. And in the end the same men that Connor supported kicked them out of their own home because they wanted their land.
@@enlightenmentdoesntcomeeas5337 no you idiot he knows full Washington was responsible, but feels the Templurs and Charles Lee is a far more dangerous threat to the freedom of Mankind.
@@enlightenmentdoesntcomeeas5337 if you actually play this game then you'll realize why he keep chasing Lee and help the Patriots.. Connor is the realest assassin who follow the assassin's rule into the heart. He knows to not let the Templar rules and seek freedom for the people.. He's a but selfish about his people but eventually he realize that's for the best. The kanienkehaka survived and move to West.. He does not kill people if it's not necessary just like Altair.. That alone is enough to prove why Connor could free the whole America from the Templars
@@Gerraint I suppose. I've played the game by the way. Perhaps it's unfair to judge someone based solely on their weaknesses and not acknowledge the good they did. I'm more in line with Templar philosophy than Assassins, so forgive me if I seem biased. This is just how see this.
@@WhenInDarknessSeekTheLight Connor didn't knew Washington was responsible for his mother's death and the burning of his village when he was a child. He thought it was Haytham's thugs but they were on a different mission during that day and they just happened on him during that time. Connor blamed the Order because he saw the ring on Lee's finger and so he thought they were responsible. Years later Haytham showed him a document ordering the burning of his village something the future president already did years ago. But Connor continued to support Washington for he thought that they would the right thing despite all that..... He thought. Maybe the Order was more dangerous and stopping them was more important, but clearly helping Washington did no good either. His father who was a Templar by the way, tried to tell him, tried to warn him actually that those lesser and unfortunate will suffer while the rich get richer but Connor refused to listen. After all the revolution was not sparked by the will of the people, "it was done by a group of privileged cowards seeking only to enrich themselves, they convened in private and made a decision that would benefit them."
The brutally interrupted dialogue between themm during the fight pissed me the off though. It's a great dialogue but you barely get to hear it. (something similar happens in AC4)
"A warning to you both - choose to follow me, or oppose me and I **will** kill you" . Such a badass delivery, and I love how Haytham doesn't laugh it up. He knows that Connor is now more then capable of doing it, and that stops him in his tracks.
I actually love AC3. The story was intricate and dark, and one of the most interesting in the series. I wasn't too fond of the modern-day counterpart though.

Haytham truly plays his role as the "tough-love, such-a-dick father." And he does it so well you can't hate him for it. :L This Father-Son relationship is so complicated and well scripted. It really brings out some strange emotions if you let yourself feel.
"No Connor, don't do that, there's no way of knowing what's on the other-" *Connor breaks the wall* "SIII-" *loading screen* "-IIIIIDE!" XD I cracked up so hard. I don't like Haytham, but sometimes, I really like him xD
Comedic as it is this really demonstrates how different these two are ideology. Haythem is cautious, and avoids risk while Connor is instinctive and works with the outcome of risks good or bad. In fact the only risk Haythem took was not killing Connor which he States as his biggest regret
What I always like is that Connor doesn’t just denounce Haytham for being a templar. He respects his choice, only seeking to understand why that choice was made and what drives to two orders and where their divide is
Haytham: Well you'd best get after him, then. Connor: You go. I will watch the prisoners Haytham: No, you do it. Connor: Why me? Haytham: Because I said so! Now go!
I really enjoyed playing as Haytham, he's one of the sassiest and most charismatic character's I've had the pleasure of playing. I liked playing as Connor too, but Haytham really sealed the deal for me in this game. I also am far less sympathetic to the Assassin cause in this game. Even if I do hate Charles Lee.
Yeah, it really does! I mean, at first I was like, "oh man, this is going to glorify the colonies, isn't it?" But I was so wrong! I enjoyed that about this game, ^^
I really wish that they didnt kill haythem they could have done so much with haytham and connors relationship, haytham and connor made a great team when together, i think they could have built off that
Haytham held back though. He could've killed Connor a bunch of times but because it was his son, he didn't follow through. Haytham even was the one who causes the rope that was strangling connor from kill him
Haytham is truly naive. He believe all Templars have the same goals as him when most of them are just out for themselves. Look at how shocked Haytham was to find out Church's betrayal.
The same can be said for other Assassins like Connor himself, you just have to look at the things the Achilles Brotherhood did in Rogue to see that Assassins can lose their way too. Not all Templars are greedy bastards like the Borgias and Renaissance Templars, in fact all the Ottoman and the Colonies Templars had a world view, an ideology and they did what they believed was right, even Church betrayed the Order because he did not agree with the Revolution.
The new young generation of gamers are just more and more seekers of pleasure and didnt get the real character of connor or the emotional plot in this game. They wanted a person with charisma but they forgot that connor was only a child saw his mother burning alive later discovering that his own father delivered the order to do so. Yet connor struggles to fight for justice helping the patriots. Connor was the only assassin closer to a warrior fighting style , he was the only one to experience armed armies at open battlefields with his tomahawk hammer, by far the most skilled assassin in the series. Jokes and cocky attitudes are expected from people of privileges with aggressive social circles around them. In my opinion enzio was much more selfish seeking revenge and putting everyone who was left for him in danger.
I've mentioned this before on another comment but I'll say it again. Altaïr was the most skilled in battle, surpassing that of Connor and Ezio, it seems that no one remembers the time he charged into a Templar filled war ground and fought multiple Templar knights at the same time whilst also fighting the Templar Grand Master. Furthermore he then went to fight his master who wielded the Apple of Eden and won. Most people get the impression that these new characters are stronger because they display new combat moves, but suggesting we saw Altaïr in a new Game; we would probably give our own thoughts a second think. You have to consider the fact that Altaïr also invented all of the new weaponry used by modern Assassins (hidden gun etc..). He was also the master of stealth whereas Connor would tank most battles. Just watch the AC1 trailers if you don't believe me.
It's not just gamers; it's everyone. People like Ezio because he's relatable and he's only that way because he's the only assassin who's lived a normal life like us until the death of his parents at which I think he was 17 years old by then? Altair and Connor both pretty much had a lack of childhood and Edward Kenway... well... can't really say he's had a normal life. I'd say Edward's life until he's become an Assassin was a life of a desperate man trying to establish his legacy and not in an ambitious way. He just wants a life where he can live secure without having to worry what they're gonna do for food in a week or two from now. Also people don't clearly understand they are two different characters therefore they have different personalities. Also from different time periods and different TYPES of era. Generally, if you've lived during an era or time period where there were a lot of hardships, you tend not to be as so carefree as Ezio was but more like Connor's personality. In this manner of perspective, Connor's personality is more realistic and more relatable. He just lacks charm which was one of the focuses to his personality. He's mean to be an outcast. He's meant to be among the ostracized; as he was by his own people and the men he sought to save.
Also people think they are professional critics who have masters in psychology and behavioral science and think they are experts in analyzing characters... Then you look at their average age and it's like 15-20. If you ever admitted Connor is bland and mundane compared to other Assassin's, you don't understand human behaviorism very well.
honestly looking back Connor was a pretty cool protagonist with compelling family dynamics, whose black-white view on the Templar-assassin war and the resulting clash with reality made for great storytelling. Looking back years after playing it I honestly feel like he mostly suffered from being stuffed between Ezio and Edward Kenway.
Haytham was stolen away by Templars when he was 8 and was raised by the grandmaster. He eventually betrayed the grandmaster and created his own path, in the beginning.
22kingdomheartsfan You can read all his story in the book. It's really interesting . And it shows why he has chosen the path he had. How he doubted in his way.
He definitely is, and it shows more than Haytham himself would care to admit. Who else but Ed could pass down such an ungodly amount of sass that even the Templar upbringing can't even silence properly?
Nope. It kind of makes it a great story, because it's more of a moral thing. With Ezio it was just "you're a good guy. Go kill these generic bad guys", but with AC3 (and AC4, which did it even better) you actually had regrets about killing these guys. However, I feel they did it a little too much, and that it was almost like Haytham and his crew (especially Pitcairn) were the good guys.
mayhem380 i wouldnt say they were good guys, i wouldnt call anyone in this "good", both sides here were in the right and both did despicable things.i do agree though that they overplayed some of them. my issue wasnt with the characters though it was the gameplay. this felt too slow and had too many QTEs. i got annoyed at bunker hill and quit, even though i really wanted to see saratoga
Just like Benjamin tells Connor it's all about representation. The enemy will always disagree with the side you something from. We see this from the "4th" person and it's up to us to decide who we favor more based on morality, but truly neither side is truly evil.
And the epic finale between father and son. What hurts the most is that Connor and Haytham loved each other. Haytham did love his son, but could not sway him to jump fence, like he did when Birch killed Edward.
I find it funny that the Assassin's are seen here as indoctrinated troopers, dedicated simply to kill any Templar on sight, while the Templars are well-meaning but decidedly ruthless in their course of action to bring order into to the Colonies.
It is rather strange, all through AC2 we were led to believe the assassins were the real heros but this game flys in the face of that maybe the developers want us to make up our own conclusions on both.. remember we've only ever played as assassins and only once for a brief part as a templar it's easy to be biased.
AC4 did the same thing as 3 most of the Templars if you hear their death confessioms well Rogers survived but anyway, all of them were actually pretty good people Torres wanted to abolish Slavery and didn't see it as a good practice nor morally righteous, but it seems he didn't do much to stop it maybe because the power he had was dwindling with Edwards Attacks which js why he needed the Observatory to force the Empire to focus on more practical and Just causes, he didn't have any resentment towards Kenway even in his death but he complemented him saying that Ed finally had something to believe in. Rogers was an upstanding guy aside from his ignorance against Slavery but you could see that he wanted peace and truth, he tried pardoning the pirates making sure they would go with their lives and doesn't seem too eager to spill blood. Ducaste (did I spell it right?), Hornigold, and etc. just wanted something more in fact out of all the Pirates Hornigold had a similar goal to Kenway albeit their methods and beliefs of attaining them were completely at odds.
The last bit with Connor shaving his head and applying war paint was always such an impactful thing for me to see. In many Native cultures, you shave your head to show mourning. But in this instance, Connor shaved his head for war. BUT LIKE, HE JUST KILLED HIS DAD. So to me, that scene was sooooo powerful; because in a way, he was in backhanded mourning as much as he was off to kill Lee. Fuck I love Connor Kenway. Quality-ass story!
In Mohawk traditions, shaving the sides of their hair was a sign of that warrior going to war. They kept the middle bit as a way to remind them the path of home or something similar of identity. It coincides with burying the hatchet in a post to signify their people doing to war in the midst of a threat, then removing it once it’s passed. :)
Haytham and Achilles were my favorite characters from this game. Haytham because... well... let's face it... everyone loved Haytham until the "May the Father of Understanding guide us" scene. Then there were confusion and haters. Achilles because badass old black man with infinite cynical wisdom? Yes mentor teach me wisely. Also apparently Achilles' mentor was Adewale who was Edward Kenways' (Connor's grandfathers') right hand man in the Jackdaw.
***** Eh. Debatable. Haytham had more chances to kill Connor. Especially during Connor's execution; Haytham could have easily let him died but he saved Connor from being hung.
they both had their own reasons for trying to keep to the other alive. they both wanted to convince the other of their goals. after all they were father and son.
haytham i think is one of the perfect editions to the assassins creed games because he points something out, they all aren't that bad, and the assassin's could be the worst out of the two.. from what i hear from him makes sense, control brings peace, freedom brings chaos
Both of which brings peace to an extend Too much control brings uprisings, and revolutions Too much Freedom bring Chaos and Anarchy I am split i can't decide who is more right or wrong so i'm just gonna remain neutral until further notice
I love the differences they have in swordplay. Haytham fights more refined, his finishers and counters are quick, stylish and precise. Connor throws more of his weight behind his sword swings, leading to more brutish and devastating finishers.
What I loved about their argument on the rooftop is that Haythem had a good point about the Continental Congress. They wanted to benefit themselves, held a meeting in private and coated it with pretty words about freedom and stuff.
"It seems your tongue has tasted sour grapes." Even though Connor is naive to the ways of the world, I really like how poetic and well-spoken he is. I get the feeling that even though he is more known for being a stern killing machine, the guy is wicked smart and incredibly well-read, in spite of being a naive young man
I love their dynamic together. I also love how Haytham told Connor early on that he doesn’t “feign affection,” but he eventually did feign affection for him in the end. Also, I had just started playing this game about a week ago & I didn’t know anything about it. When I started playing this game, I really enjoyed playing as Haytham. He seemed like the protagonist at first, and I actually rooted for him to win. But then there was the twist that he was a Templar, and I was so surprised by that. This guy I’ve been supporting so long in this game is actually on the villain’s side? This game did a great job of making you understand both sides of this conflict, and made you question who I should be rooting for in the end.
Haytham and Connor sequences were hilarious in my view, that's a pity Connor kills him in the end. Not quite comprehending the fact why it had to be this way...
buek14 For starters, he let his Wife die, he helped Charles Lee, who killed innocent beings and berates Connor for no other reason than to confirm his indoctrinated believes.
12:31 Haythams reaction 2 hearing Ziio is dead was kinda sad in a way. He legit looked like his heart broke after hearing that he'll never see her again
It doesn’t say it in the Game, but the reason Connor cut his hair at least it’s this way in my tribe, we cut our hair as a symbol of grief and loss. He cut it to grieve his father.
I was kind of hopping haytham would help connor in the end, i was expecting it as I thought it would go just like desmond and his father's story (so far anywho, I've just gotten past haytham's death) where they are atfirst enemies but end up been father and son. It's sad to see a character like haytham having to be the bad guy, but damn if he isn't a good one. Sure he isn't unique but I connect and understand and even fear him more than I do the oher enemies I've seen so far. Probably because the game starts out playing as him so unlike the other characters who you barely care for because you don't know them, this game makes me feel more emotional when someone is about to be/is killed as you've interacted with them. Seen things their way. You feel sorry for haytham and atleast I especially felt sorry for connor. Usually parent deaths I consider cliché and weak attempts to make you feel sorry for someone. But in this game I really felt bad for him as you get to know him and see what life is like before loosing his mother. I can't wait to kill Charles lee, that son of a bitch.
I just love the dynamic between these two. Also the hard lessons he gives Connor may sting, but by the end it really shows Connor was listening and appreciated it all.
Assassins: wants to achieve peace by letting people think freely and with freedom Templars: wants to achieve peace but with order because freedom leads to chaos and they want to control man kind so chaos can be prevented I swear that the Templars are the good guys all along.
I think that they are both correct in some way, but they way that they go about trying to spread their ideas is wrong. That's why they need each other to keep themselves in check.
At 30:10 the scenery changes when the lightning strikes and Haytham sees the truth of what Washington did to the Natives and the Seven Years War. The tension between them grows and the lightning strikes and when Connor said “ENOUGH” it was the last straw. I felt really bad for Haytham. He really loved his wife and Connor and wanted his son to see the truth.
"BECAUSE I SAID SO."
Wow, Haytham. And in that moment, I swear that all the teenage players cringed because they could hear their own parents in Haytham's voice.
Yah.... -_-
Thats' what makes that line so perfect too. Everyone can relate to that sentence and that look he gives him is simply perfect.

The facial expression Haytham has when Connor tells him that his mom is dead...
He actually looks hurt.
he was faking it he already knew she dead before returning to america
I doubt that. He looked legitimately sad.
Stephan Brown in the book released about Haytham lee told him years before he and Connor reunited
There was something about this Templar-Assassin, Father-Son duo that I loved so much. So many of the interactions were great to see.
bradhuygens Yeah I agree , I liked the scenes with Connor and Haytham. Actually for some reason I liked Haytham most. Maybe cause he was the first character that is used in the animus in this game , I don't know ... I mean he is a damn Templar and a cunt in some occasions ( for instance he always kills prisoners after they speak) but I liked him.
bradhuygens Some of my favourite parts were when Haytham was acting like a full on Dad, gnoring that Connor is a full grown man, he still says stuff like "Never you mind, just do as I ask" or "You go and get him because I told you too"
I have the same problem, Chiara... I think Haytham has put a lot of points in Charm.
happy always to read that our work was enjoyed :)

In a way, Haytham used the time he had left before dying to tell Connor he was proud of him as a father. It's kind of one thing that every man would want their fathers to say, that they are proud of them
Nice, well put
True, but he didn't.
And i think haytham admire connor more than shay
It's an amazing plot
Pretty crazy that one lineage gave rise and fall to entire empires
Astonishing and sad at the same time.
Well Haytham was tricked into being a Templar Birch had Edward killed to take his son and put him in the Templar order
Well as the Devil comes in many forms, so to does he come to each of us when in and at our weakest points.

12:37 people who say Connor shows no emotion, you can hear the sadness and anger in his voice. He sounds like he is about to break down.

Not necessarily. We know the tide can turn at any time. The Kenway saga is a proof of that. Edward almost destroys the assasins, then he proceeds to hunt down the templars. Haytham and Shay practically extinguished the assasins of america. Connor destroyed the templars again.

+TheMegaUzumaki Haytham didn't kill Edward nor did sold his sister.
TheMegaUzumaki and Haytham busted her out and killed Birch
Uto Resa 519 true he did stab the man that killed his father

You could say the same for Connor. He also had millions of chances to kill daddy, but he didn't. Just wanted to point that out.
ty man
it's pretty much Vader vs Luke in return of the jedi
Also I think it is worth mentioning Connor later regrets killing Haytham because he read his personal diary and learned a lot about his life and thoughts, that's why he wrote "Sakataterihwàhten" ("I've lost my way") under Haytham's portrait in the homestead.
And of course there was a long monologue scrapped out in the final game in which he speaks about a lot of interesting stuff.
Just sayin' it for all the people who complain about Connor mindlessly killing Haytham because he is a rude generic terminator with no characterisation.
Haytham: Connor, do this and do that.
Connor: what about you?
Haytham: ^irritated tone on^ ^swag on^ *Never you mind! Just do as I ask!*

7:38 makes me sad 😢
“You could have killed me when we first met-what stayed your hand?"
"Curiosity. Any other questions?"
In the book, Forsaken, this is what Haytham wrote in his journal about Connor's question:
"I could have let you die at the gallows, I thought. I could have had Thomas kill you in Bridewell Prison. What stayed my hand on those two occasions also? What was the answer?
Was I getting old? Sentimental? Perhaps I was nostalgic for a life I never really had." 💔
It's also sad when you see Connor hanging his head after that. It seemed to hurt him.
Eagle vision allowed Connor to see through the mask as he was being hanged. Maybe Haytham's eagle vision allowed him to see Connor's suffering.
Just read that part. That book is awesome!
Reminder that the game are ALL Animus projected, so not everything accurate to what happened in the real world events. The Journals and informations written are more than depicted in the games.

watch that scene again.
Seems pretty silly to think that Haytham thought connor was too weak to lift his arm...

Connor didn't knew Washington was responsible for his mother's death and the burning of his village when he was a child. He thought. Haytham is truly naive. He believe all Templars have the same goals as him when most of them are just out for themselves. Look at how shocked Haytham was to find out Church's betrayal.
@Mike Nguyen yeah,he believed Washington who responsible for burning his village
@@BVR2451 "Believed"? Washington WAS responsible for burning Connor's village and indirectly for Zhiio's death
@@riddlerwillison3336 You can clearly see in this game that Achilles regreted after so many years.
@Veersingh Matharu Veersingh Matharu which is why their struggle is endless
But Haytham and the Templars didn't ordered to burn Connor's village though. It was Washington
***** k
My god I can't believe he's Edward son.
Haytham was stolen away by Templars when he was 8 and was raised by the grandmaster. He eventually betrayed the grandmaster and created his own path, in the beginning.
John Shepard Really? That's interesting.
22kingdomheartsfan
You can read all his story in the book. It's really interesting . And it shows why he has chosen the path he had. How he doubted in his way.
He definitely is, and it shows more than Haytham himself would care to admit. Who else but Ed could pass down such an ungodly amount of sass that even the Templar upbringing can't even silence properly?
Edward Kenway the strongest assasin all time, Haytham not similar for the great Edward.
Edward kill the templars.
Haytham join the templars.
Am I the only one that actually prefered Haytham over Connor in this game? o.o
Nope. It kind of makes it a great story, because it's more of a moral thing. With Ezio it was just "you're a good guy. Go kill these generic bad guys", but with AC3 (and AC4, which did it even better) you actually had regrets about killing these guys. However, I feel they did it a little too much, and that it was almost like Haytham and his crew (especially Pitcairn) were the good guys.
mayhem380
i wouldnt say they were good guys, i wouldnt call anyone in this "good", both sides here were in the right and both did despicable things.i do agree though that they overplayed some of them. my issue wasnt with the characters though it was the gameplay. this felt too slow and had too many QTEs. i got annoyed at bunker hill and quit, even though i really wanted to see saratoga
I thought he would be the guy to get the suit, look at the case
Just like Benjamin tells Connor it's all about representation. The enemy will always disagree with the side you something from. We see this from the "4th" person and it's up to us to decide who we favor more based on morality, but truly neither side is truly evil.
Haytham was way cooler
And the epic finale between father and son. What hurts the most is that Connor and Haytham loved each other. Haytham did love his son, but could not sway him to jump fence, like he did when Birch killed Edward.
God I loved the voice acting between these two. Haytham's calm tone and Connor's blunt dialogue were so fun to listen to
I find it funny that the Assassin's are seen here as indoctrinated troopers, dedicated simply to kill any Templar on sight, while the Templars are well-meaning but decidedly ruthless in their course of action to bring order into to the Colonies.
It is rather strange, all through AC2 we were led to believe the assassins were the real heros but this game flys in the face of that maybe the developers want us to make up our own conclusions on both.. remember we've only ever played as assassins and only once for a brief part as a templar it's easy to be biased.
@@wisewolf2963 try and say that today with modern day abstergo and you'll be crazy. There the archetypical bad guy

Haytham's right hand twitches at the thought of a truce. Splendid animations!
Is mocap, so...
@@Matias_x22x - Well: splendid mocap actors!
@@ZorroCeleste1 Wonder what hand twitches mean? Lies? Discomfort?
@@nathanhollow0 - Uncomfortable feelings?
I think the twitching shows he is experiencing emotions that undermine his ruthless and calculating nature - namely, attachment to his son.
It´s great to see achilles again in rogue , he is younger
It's nice to know he gets his sass from his father
I fkn loved Haytham so much :3 He was awesome!! Those there are Edward Kenway's son and grandson! Show some respect you peasants!
same
Haytham and Vaas (Far Cry 3) is the best example how villain character should've created
Edward- Haytham, why are you bullying my grandson?
Haytham- he likes it..
poor Connor xD
Haytham- M..mm..ma
Edward- Mama? Are you trying to say mama?
Haytham- May the father of understanding guide us
Edward- What
anybody else wishing Haythams outfit was in Syndicate?
+Ian Gratton I wish Haytham is in every ac. We wont find a man like him again.
+Brandon Yan who tf is conner -_-
+Sietse Dijkstra the guy in the white clothes....DUHHH
stupid
Sietse Dijkstra Haytham's native american kid. you know, the protagonist in 3.
Connor: no you can't just kill a British General after they have given us information
Haytham: haha hidden blade go swoosh
"No. You do it."
"Why me?"
"BECAUSE I SAID SO. NOW GO!"
I swear the interactions between these are some of the most relatable. 😂😂
Haythem could of killed Connor SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many times.....
vies versa
Shame he didn't do anything and got himself killed in the end.
Alina NormalOne Yeah, his death was completely unnecessary, but he just HAD to monologue.
***** Eh.
Both of which brings peace to an extend
Too much control brings uprisings, and revolutions
Too much Freedom bring Chaos and Anarchy
I am split i can't decide who is more right or wrong so i'm just gonna remain neutral until further notice
***** so i guess we're team First Civ.......fuck everything xD
I love the differences they have in swordplay. Haytham fights more refined, his finishers and counters are quick, stylish and precise. Connor throws more of his weight behind his sword swings, leading to more brutish and devastating finishers.
Haytham an Connor working together was cool to watch
Till the final brawl between father and son
Haytham:''he's my son''
Connor:''waaaaaaaa....''
Ironic how 2 generations of Kenways find themselves back in the Caribbean
26:45 the reason why I think Haytham is an awesome character
The scene at around 12:20 is my favourite in the entire game. So perfectly acted and written.
I swear, I could picture Haytham being like "Connor...I am your father!" and Vader's theme plays as Connor screams.
msmissjordan1 look at Loomers Assassins creed den with the voice actor of Haytham... he actually says that line XD
that was indeed part of our on set repartee during the performance capture shoot
msmissjordan1 LMFAO😂😂
msmissjordan1 😂😂😂😂😂
There is actually a fanart of this 😂
Connor: I thought the templars had eyes and ears everywhere
Haythem: we did until you started cutting them off 🤣
37:13 Connor just hit his daddy in his package? LMAO
I've noticed lol
Well Connor won’t have any siblings now.
Its funny how connor killed all those soldiers to get the commanders then got angry when Hatham killed 3 people
What I loved about their argument on the rooftop is that Haythem had a good point about the Continental Congress. They wanted to benefit themselves, held a meeting in private and coated it with pretty words about freedom and stuff.
I love them both!
But, Haytham is the best character in the whole game. And at least for me, one of the best on Assassin's Creed.
God bless you beauty...
"It seems your tongue has tasted sour grapes." Even though Connor is naive to the ways of the world, I really like how poetic and well-spoken he is. I get the feeling that even though he is more known for being a stern killing machine, the guy is wicked smart and incredibly well-read, in spite of being a naive young man
-you do it
- why me?
- BECAUSE I SAID SO!NOW GO!
True father here. Ultimate argument.
17:22 Connor ask "what do we do now"
Haytham "first I need a new hat"
he said ''we do now'' -_-
I love their dynamic together.
He didn't feign affection.
Feigning it means faking it.
Rogue gives us an even better picture of the templars
Conner's experison when haytham says "he's my son"
Conners thought "hell no i ain't your son you killed my mother"
It Washington who killed his Mother
haytham is easily my favorite character in ac3
i like connor
you mean the walking piece of cardboard?
his 2 emotions were anger (which half the time were for the stupidest reasons) and expretionless talking
ertyuiopsnake he is the best assassin in all AC history this is just my thoughts
personally i like Ezio the best, but alright
But im better :)
Powerful scene at 8:47
The only difference, Connor - the ONLY difference between myself and those you aid - is that I do not feign affection.
Haytham and Connor sequences were hilarious in my view, that's a pity Connor kills him in the end. Not quite comprehending the fact why it had to be this way...
They were just on the wrong side, and they were both utterly convinced that their side was absolutely right, and that the other was absolutely wrong.
Made the Father-Son rivalry that much more deep and compelling :D
buek14 For starters, he let his Wife die, he helped Charles Lee, who killed innocent beings and berates Connor for no other reason than to confirm his indoctrinated believes.
well that's what you call "Enemy with Benefits"
Too bad that Haytham died, very sad
Best transition in any game ever
“No, don’t do that we have no way of knowing what’s on the other SIII-“

“-IIIIDE”
Haytham did care for Connor
12:31 Haythams reaction 2 hearing Ziio is dead was kinda sad in a way. He legit looked like his heart broke after hearing that he'll never see her again
😂 he looked so done with Connor after that
"Tasted of the forest's fruits did you?"
Damn right he did.
“Don’t think I have any intention of caressing your cheeks and saying I was wrong “
A dedicated man lies Haytham. And you were dedicated.
At 26:29 you will see a second Haytham running. Is this a glitch because in some other videos I also saw the same thing.
guns854 its neo from matrix
Assassins: wants to achieve peace by letting people think freely and with freedom
Templars: wants to achieve peace but with order because freedom leads to chaos and they want to control man kind so chaos can be prevented
I swear that the Templars are the good guys all along.
I think that they are both correct in some way, but they way that they go about trying to spread their ideas is wrong. That's why they need each other to keep themselves in check.
Freedom is better than peace
Dzh123 I agree.But I also do not.
+Dzh123 what if the person uses his/her freedom to do crime is that really better that peace and order?
+Lance Vance yes. Freedom and free will are what make us human. To take those away is essentially is basically stealing our humanity
Haytham was just the best character of this game. Playing with him was a total pleasure.
