It's nice to see your early sketchbooks. I have similar feelings when I look at my old art work. Slightly shocked that there are some good ones and also just gratitude that I kept up with it.

I would like to start by saying that I love your videos! You are an amazing artist and the way you're taking us through your process and mindset always feels so grounded, analytical and inspiring to me. I love it! But, when it comes to these old sketchbook videos I find them hard to watch. The format is an art UA-cam staple and very enjoyable. I find that a lot of artists when encountering their old works will acknowledge that they at the time loved what they were doing but now, looking back, find it lacking. That's normal. I do it too. What upsets me with your sketchbook videos is the way you talk about your past self and your old art. Things aren't just bad, they're 'disgusting'. In my opinion, you're being too harsh on yourself. Is it something you play up for the camera to distance yourself from what you now perceive as bad works of art? Maybe it's just the way you talk and I'm totally out of the loop, but I feel like there's a difference between these videos and your other ones. In those, you're critical. Here, you're almost mean. To me, it sounds like you give your younger self no margins for error, no room to grow, no safe space to experiment. Like, come on, of course your 17 year old self didn't know everything there is to know about art or the materials or style or whatever. Give them a break! They were either doing their best or having fun. There's nothing wrong with that. I think young Al did a pretty great job :) Anyway, I hope this comment doesn't come off as preachy, I just wanted to voice my concern since it was something I thought about all through watching your last old sketchbook video and continued in this one (mainly the first half). Wishing you a happy new year!
