Kern Dance Alliance - Books in Motion®: DANCE + LITERACY 2023 Public Service Announcement

When kids don’t read over the summer, they fall behind. But the Kern County Library, Kern Literacy Council, the Kern Dance Alliance, and our Kern County dance partners are working together to encourage literacy in Kern County through our summer reading program, BOOKS IN MOTION®: DANCE + LITERACY ! 📖
YOU and the special children in YOUR lives are invited to visit the library to experience 9 Kern County dance organizations present 9 different books LIVE in performance, take a mini dance class, and participate in a crafting session based upon a beloved children’s book! The best part about Books in Motion? The FREE book at the end of the program!

📖 Books in Motion is an award-nominated, evidence-based FREE summer program that encourages reading through dancing!!
The Books in Motion program features:
💃 A live dance performance (in English, Spanish, and American Sign Language) based upon well-known children’s books. @ilckc
🕺A mini dance class where children will learn a short dance that coincides with the book’s theme.
✂️ A crafting session to reinforce the book’s theme and promote role playing.
📕 A FREE BOOK to encourage reading at home.
Books in Motion is not a one time experience, children are invited to attend as many shows as possible!
💃🏽The 7th annual Books in Motion program is made possible through the creative vision of Kern County dance artists - Aloha Entertainment, Bakersfield City Ballet, Civic Dance Center, DAT Krew, Heather Benes and the East Kern Ragtag Revels, J and M Dance Center, McLaughlin Dance Collective, Spotlight Dance Academy, and Spotlight Academy of the Arts will all be featured this summer via 31 performances at 17 library locations.
