Singapore and Korea team were impressive to me. It doesnt mean I choose Korea because I am Korean. They organized and prepared what they have an opinion of the topic well. Language might be hard for the others. I think they are also able to do that same way as those students I mentioned if they use their own language. The most important thing that we should know is they are young but they can speak out about the global issues using another language! We better clap for them, not judging.
I refuse to clap to someone who is an ideologically possessed demon spouting one-sided political doctrine which I disagree for several reasons like incomprehensible speech due to multiple strings of contradiction and manipulation which can result to subtle mentality corruption because of weak/pathetic political perception towards the unpredictable world of deception (especially from the Singaporean kids whos country is basically an economic puppet among commonwealth states of the British empire to get access to Asian countries' geopolitical events.)
This was extremely unfair. They put the strongest speakers (Singaporeans as English is their first language). They had the easiest point to argue for. I understand that it was based on the lots but... the other speakers with other languages as their first language had to fight for ideas that are very hard to couch for and I think that we should all applaud lmao. From our homes because this is extremely difficult. I am from Korea but if I had to argue against native Koreans, rapping their arguments at 90 miles per hour in Hangul, I would combust right then and there.
Contradiction. (debate mode on) It doesn't make the competition fair, it makes it worst. Because the Singaporeans would find in-ear translator useless and defeats the purpose of an 'English language' debate
This is not a debate this is actually how good you are in English as a Language and how fluently you can speak it , which will ultimately think other people to give you points.
ikrr same , I was hoping for subtitles because their ideas seemed really interesting. I think this show would have been even better if the students could speak in their mother tongue and translators could translate for them because it is a bit unfair because they couldn't present all their ideas in the short time.
Both government benches did a fantastic job. I wish I was this eloquent in high school. Bravo! However, to be fair, this was a difficult motion to oppose. One argument I can think of is this: Using education as a tool to promote the concept of global citizenship over a nationalist mindset will mean restructuring the education syllabus and potentially removing access to certain parts of our culture. Taking language as an example, promoting a globalist mindset would mean that more widely-spoken languages in the world take priority over our mother tongue. For instance, if you're a Thai citizen, you might have to learn English, Mandarin, Hindi, AND Spanish in school. Although beneficial in an international context, this realistically means that less attention and emphasis will likely be given to the Thai language. Taking history as an example, promoting a globalist mindset would mean that if our history textbook remains at the same number of pages, a majority of those pages will educate students on international history. It will teach us the biggest and deadliest wars, the most influential dictators, the most prominent treaties and agreements. It sounds fantastic, but if everyone (regardless of nationality) only knows about the 'important' parts of history, who will remember the 'smaller' parts of history? This isn't to say that those knowledge are mutually exclusive. However, everything comes at a cost. Including new parts into a syllabus means replacing existing parts. Ideally, we would love to learn as much about the world as possible. Realistically, however, one cannot expect students to take on 20 subjects if they had previously been only taking 10.
If it’s really a intelligent school debate, then english should ignored (since content is more important for solving these problems, think again many wars started because content lost in translation).
Singapore team is dang good as expected(firstly their official language is English and Singapore is a big cosmopolitan/multicultural nation so globalisation is a pretty big and important topic there) Korea team is well done as well I’m not familiar with their education system but they know what they are talking about👍

Actually, language is important ofc. Singapore can speak whats in their mind clearly, ofc bcs they are fluent in english:)
You guys said that the reason why the opposite group didn't have a big support was because they don't have english as a mother language, but I still think that's not a big factor in the debate. I sought a lot of these, and I see that people who have a good argument can change peoples mind even if there is an accent
The quote "When all think alike, then no one is thinking" is not from Einstein but from Walter Lippman. Einstein must be rolling in his grave right now from all the erroneous quotes credited to his name.
I think it's so hard to get a fair assessment in terms of audience agreement here because I feel like the majority of people nowadays have a globally-oriented mindset and everyone brings their own implicit biases with them even when they try not to. That's not to take away from team Korea or team Singapore, but I think it was much harder to argue a pro-nationalist opposition and have the audience agree with you, language barrier aside.
how a debate works is you're given a motion and a side, opposition and proposition. a motion can be presented one-sided or neutral statement - that's how it is. however, for any motion there will always be two sides e.g. agree/disagree for a one-sided statement, both sides will have limitations and different perspectives. whether you're able to deliver enough points and/or examples is dependent on your skill, general or relevant knowledge and mentality (confident, anxious etc) during the debate. there's nothing unfair about it.
I personally think the entire debate was somewhat a big disadvantage against the opposition considering that they're not really fluent in speaking English. If you let a fluent English speaker debate against a non-English speaker, for sure most people would probably prefer the English speaker because obviously English is the universal language, and. Maybe if the opposition party had more fluent speakers, people would understand their position very well.
And am I the only one who think the argument of Japanese team has a flaw? The 2nd speaker claimed that school education should provide students with their own choice for what to learn and should not force them to learn what the government or politicians want. But then, it violates their argument as well, because Japanese team was for the education of nationalism, not for individual's right, so that it is way far from the team's initial point of argument. So, at the point i heard his argument, i wondered what i was hearing. But even the judges doesn't seem to have recognized it.. how weird it is...
Yep once you're in the opposition you can change your motion as long as it still follows that you are against the og motion. And as a government you can just change how you define the motion to put it in your favor.
I feel debates should have translator earpiece that every person could wear. So that the debater can speak in their native language. They do this in the united nation, when they allow different countries to speak. This way it is more authentic and easy for them to debate.
Seriously. I've been binge watching these. I love seeing students debating over world problems. Makes me believe that we can change the world our older generations messed up :)
I feel like even though Government did a great job, Japan had some pretty good points too. It was just not coherent enough, so if they’d been speaking in Japanese it would’ve been a bit fairer.

nationalism can win easily if they keep asking gov what is mechanism of implementation to avoid certain country from losing their national identity if school teach globalism instead of nationalism. Moreover, about solving world problems, if individual understand well enough how global trade works people will against terrorism, understand well enough abt climate change people will donate to combat climate change. and if people have strong love to their country, refuges issue will not exist at the first place. Nationalism is more important to be taught at school, so that students will contribute to their country and solve local issues, (pollution, poverty, harmony and political stability). "if citizen take care of their country, global problem wouldn't exist" Well, wait until USA and Russia make a move! I think it easier to give an argument at the government side because the inexorical advance that we called as civilization is moving slightly fast, globalisation is affecting significant role, the world apparently become more connected so people understand each other better, because of social media and internet people could see the other side of a world easily, government could give a command and make a move just by foreshadowing the circumstances from screen, conscious or unconscious we are doing everything indeed pretty close to remotely, globalisation is important sincerely the digital currency such as crypto currency is more easier to convert (and more fair) If the world has only one currency (I know there is a lot of counter argument about 'only one currency'), and apparently we can dispersed misunderstood if we understand what every person said(the solution would be: every people understand one global language, and in order to reach that point we must teach globalisation in school). I'm not telling you to abandon your local language but because of globalisation its very important to learn global language that majority of people conceive! Citizenship is a legal concept. Citizenship is granted by a government. There is no World govt so there cannot be any World citizenship. Think of the world as a neighborhood with many homes. You live in one home with your family. Similarly, the planet consists of many homes or countries. You can care about the whole neighborhood but will always be the owner of your own home where you live with your family. It's the same with your country as well.

Tbh, opposition team is already in a huge disadvantage, since their argument (despite all the reasoning) is not so valid in the modern world we now live in. And their poor command of English puts them in an even more disadvantaged position. I don’t know a lot about debating. I believe it’s about you making points and justify them in various ways to persuade the audience. But without basic command of a language, it is very hard to make your speech clear and easy to for the audience to comprehend in the first place. Also, not to mention that debates are very responsive and have time constraint.

Agree
👍
I refuse to clap to someone who is an ideologically possessed demon spouting one-sided political doctrine which I disagree for several reasons like incomprehensible speech due to multiple strings of contradiction and manipulation which can result to subtle mentality corruption because of weak/pathetic political perception towards the unpredictable world of deception (especially from the Singaporean kids whos country is basically an economic puppet among commonwealth states of the British empire to get access to Asian countries' geopolitical events.)
Chinese boy is so amazed with the first speaker of Korea 😂😂
This was extremely unfair. They put the strongest speakers (Singaporeans as English is their first language). They had the easiest point to argue for. I understand that it was based on the lots but... the other speakers with other languages as their first language had to fight for ideas that are very hard to couch for and I think that we should all applaud lmao. From our homes because this is extremely difficult. I am from Korea but if I had to argue against native Koreans, rapping their arguments at 90 miles per hour in Hangul, I would combust right then and there.
Well if u don't know Korea's first language isn't english either but they delivered their points very nicely
their school choose them knowing their english level so its not the other country's fault, really !!
This debate is so educational, interesting, informative. I just hope children can learn from this. This what you call intelligence.
Nationalism is more to do with psychology and culture. It's a feeling and faith of belonging.
Chinese and japanese had a point.
Good argument
they should give in-ear translators so everyone can speak the language they are the most comfortable in to make it fair
That defeats the entire point of the competition 😂
That's not how an international debate happens
Contradiction. (debate mode on) It doesn't make the competition fair, it makes it worst. Because the Singaporeans would find in-ear translator useless and defeats the purpose of an 'English language' debate
The topic was so advantageous to the opening govt than the oposition. The opposition had good points but their accents were very heavy. I enjoyed it👍💫
Punctuation who?
This is not a debate this is actually how good you are in English as a Language and how fluently you can speak it , which will ultimately think other people to give you points.
I was struggling to understand Japanese and Chinese debaters
english is not their first language
Soo true....
I didn't struggle with Chinese members though I'm a Japanese 😂
They speak pretty clearly to me 😊 I don't have trouble with accents 😊
ikrr same , I was hoping for subtitles because their ideas seemed really interesting. I think this show would have been even better if the students could speak in their mother tongue and translators could translate for them because it is a bit unfair because they couldn't present all their ideas in the short time.
The Prime minister and Deputy prime minister really knew how to put forth their argument! Very well done!!
Singapore team is dang good as expected(firstly their official language is English and Singapore is a big cosmopolitan/multicultural nation so globalisation is a pretty big and important topic there)
Korea team is well done as well I’m not familiar with their education system but they know what they are talking about👍
That lady moderator is everything.❤
I have the feeling that the nationalism team had it harder because of the language

That was cute though

Do you think its coincidence that Japanese and Chinese teams got to defend Nationalism vs Globalization and they both don’t speak English as well as their opponents? :D

I think the opposition not being fluent and their heavy accent hinders in getting their points across to the audience.
Singapore was impressive ...
@@meowmeowyoongi8403 I liked the points they considered in favour of globalisation ...I also liked the points South Korean team considered ... It was rational n balanced ... I respect hardwork of every participant ... Its not about language its about content... Overall a great effort ...

Actually, language is important ofc. Singapore can speak whats in their mind clearly, ofc bcs they are fluent in english:)
Basically the topic is very much in favor of the opening teams period....

Unfortunately these kids haven't experienced hunger .
They are not ready yet
You guys said that the reason why the opposite group didn't have a big support was because they don't have english as a mother language, but I still think that's not a big factor in the debate. I sought a lot of these, and I see that people who have a good argument can change peoples mind even if there is an accent
The way someone speak and behave really affect and it can impress listeners more than contents
The quote "When all think alike, then no one is thinking" is not from Einstein but from Walter Lippman. Einstein must be rolling in his grave right now from all the erroneous quotes credited to his name.
Lollllllllllll
I think the motion was one sided. My sympathy to the opposition trying to put up their case.
The Singaporean group had so many points for their argument, deserving more points than they got. This competition seems bias and selective.
how a debate works is you're given a motion and a side, opposition and proposition. a motion can be presented one-sided or neutral statement - that's how it is. however, for any motion there will always be two sides e.g. agree/disagree for a one-sided statement, both sides will have limitations and different perspectives. whether you're able to deliver enough points and/or examples is dependent on your skill, general or relevant knowledge and mentality (confident, anxious etc) during the debate. there's nothing unfair about it.
Education is Etiquette and it helps People to bypass the rules of basic sociological functioning to produce better and better states of being
I personally think the entire debate was somewhat a big disadvantage against the opposition considering that they're not really fluent in speaking English.
No. They only simply oppose the motion.... It does not mean they support the opposite motion.
Yep once you're in the opposition you can change your motion as long as it still follows that you are against the og motion.
And as a government you can just change how you define the motion to put it in your favor.
impressive speech by cristina thomas and korea team.
Why I am thinking the moderator's voice and accent sounds like Rose 😭 I realised she looks like Rose as well :"))
she has an aussie (australian) accent
I feel debates should have translator earpiece that every person could wear. So that the debater can speak in their native language. They do this in the united nation, when they allow different countries to speak. This way it is more authentic and easy for them to debate.
Why arent channels like this on an actual tv channel. Like cbbc or something? Much more entertaining than the other rubbish
Seriously. I've been binge watching these. I love seeing students debating over world problems. Makes me believe that we can change the world our older generations messed up :)
I feel like even though Government did a great job, Japan had some pretty good points too. It was just not coherent enough, so if they’d been speaking in Japanese it would’ve been a bit fairer.
the closing government speech blurts all the point of the globalization perfectly
It says British parliamentary debate, but why each speaker just have 5 minutes speech?

Can't get what the Chinese speak at first.
Listen to the Japanese.
Wow, the Chinese team's English skill is so good.
Everybody's talking about the Singaporeans, but don't forget the Korean girls, English is not their native language and they nailed it. I don't know how is the process of participation of the schools on the show, but if their English pronunciation is not clear, they shouldn't participate, unfortunately. Singaporean one was very utopian approach tho no hate.
Kudos to the young minds from🇮🇳
nationalism can win easily if they keep asking gov what is mechanism of implementation to avoid certain country from losing their national identity if school teach globalism instead of nationalism. If each citizen take care of their country, global problems will not exist. Ohh yaa abt skin color, is a job of that country to tell their citizen that citizenship is not based on skin color.
-love from Malaysia
"if citizen take care of their country, global problem wouldn't exist"
Well, wait until USA and Russia make a move!
And who knows probably in the future there is gonna be one country, erased the border across the land; and form only one country at this terrestrial, and that country name is earth
@@muhammadridho7680 " its very important to learn global language that majority of people conceive! "
so what sort of global language do you imply? also, what kind of majority of people do conceive this? how can we define if someone is considered as either majority or minority?

Citizenship is a legal concept. Citizenship is granted by a government. There is no World govt so there cannot be any World citizenship. Think of the world as a neighborhood with many homes. You live in one home with your family. Similarly, the planet consists of many homes or countries. You can care about the whole neighborhood but will always be the owner of your own home where you live with your family. It's the same with your country as well.
The second korean girl was too good. I understandood everything she said so calmly, clearly to the point without shouting rapping or yelling fancy words
Hate the government interruption of opposition in annoying way not like others
There was no criticism about China in the whole debate- protectionism and nationalism were only debated from US or Brexit pov.
- That's how you know children are slave to a particular perspective while learning about broader world scenarios.
My personal, Singapore team is the best 👏👏👏
Only because of their impeccable English, I suppose
Basically the Japanese debaters were avoiding Singaporean debaters' questions lol. However, Singaporean and Korean debaters were lucky and it was an advantage for them by representing in the opening and closing government.
Park Jin-ha from team Korea was the most impressive of all. To me, she actually brings the team to a wonderful win. Because the first girl from Korea was actually confusing me due to the lack of order to present the arguments. Before Park Jin-ha came, I thought that Singaporeans will win but after her debate, I was sure that Koreans will win.
i think the 2nd student from korea is awesome and i think for the language barirer other teams didn't express well except singapore and korea
I am from Cambodia. I very much like and support your debate. It’s useful to watch
Am I the only one who only can exactly understand what Singaporean and Korean teams said, but not Chinese and Japanese teams? And is that possibly because I am Korean? Pure curiosity! As watching this video, I became afraid I'm not gonna be able to communicate with Chinese and Japanese. It was so hard to comprehend what they were saying.. and I am seriously curious that might be because I am Korean, so it is not hard for me to understand Korean's English, who have the same origin with me, and Singaporean's, whose 1st language is English.
Looking forward to your opinions!!

I’m Korean American (born and raised in a english speaking environment) and honestly there was a bunch of words that I couldn’t comprehend from the Chinese and Japanese team, so it’s more likely that their origins don’t really have to do with you not understanding them.
