These tracks are taken from the CBS LP, which was only released in the USA. More recently, it was re-released on CD by Film Score Monthly, but sold out almost overnight, though I have since seen copies re-emerge. However, we did get the 45 rpm single in the UK, round about 1970, when the series first aired here, which was backed with "McGaretts's Theme". I managed to import a copy of the LP. These cues are all taken from the pilot episode, and are exactly the same recordings as used on the soundtrack. When the series episodes were made, a new recording of the main theme was used, which is even better, as is the TV series's end theme (on the pilot, the end theme was identical to the main theme). Obviously, the composers of the remake thought Mr. Stevens's music was far too good - so they ruined it. I've never been a fan of any remake; they always fall short by a long shot. The original theme and scores are true masterpieces. There is not a single piece in them, which wouldn't stand up to a live concert performance.
Great music from Mort perfect for the programme, every episode has its own particular style. the remake doesn't hold a candle to the original. I have all and am totally obsessed. 50 years on and still a huge following.
NOTHING! NOTHING compares to hearing music being played with REAL instruments! BEAUTIFUL! My mother gave me all her old records she pranced around the living room to and some of my old records. Haven't looked through all of them. I hope this is hiding in there along with the Patsy Cline, Glenn Miller, Andy Williams Javier Solis and of course all the Readers Digest sets amongst others. Not your fault but, pretty unforgivable was YT interrupting with not just one but TWO commercials BEFORE the suite was over!
Burke of Mellow Park how I agree, new one is total rubbish, no one, but no one can ever replace jack lord or James Mac. The background of the new show is stupid, if McG is the son of the original McG, why are the rest of the team not decendents of the original team as well as Wo fat.
The recording engineer for the 1968 Capitol Records soundtrack album was Ted Keep, chief engineer for Liberty Records for many years (Capitol acquired Liberty Records in 1980). Keep made magnificent use of Capitol's famous "Full Dimensional Stereo" technique.
Fantastisch!
I love this theme song, and I still love the original and the remake of Hawaii five -o. It would be incredible to meet some of the cast, that would be a dream come true
Hi Fred, love this one, takes me back to when was younger ;) My dad loved this programme too and was a pianist and rated the music to Mannix as well, because of some of the piano work in the chases. Thanks for doing this foray into TV music :)
Soundtrack Fred!!!! Oh, my goodness! How in the world did I miss THIS suite? I LOVE the original "Hawaii Five-O"!!! This suite is absolutely PERFECT! Thank you so much for this! Sorry it took me so long to find it! You are so AWESOME! :-)
The theme at the the beginning and several other pieces of music are from the original 1968 pilot movie "Cocoon" and from seasons one through three. Used periodically through the whole run of HFO from 1968-1980. A show that was groovy and ahead of its time in the late 60s-early 70s. I don't bother with the reboot version.
Get the actual album, folks, if you want the COMPLETE versions of these tracks. This compilation edits out significant chunks of the original music. To be fair, it says as much in the description, but still. This is one of those albums we used to listen to as kids -- I'm talkin' about two or three kids hyped up on sugary breakfast cereal, running around and jumping on the furniture to the exciting music from this HAWAII-5-O soundtrack album. For years I pestered the copyright owner via email begging them to release this on CD, and when they finally did, I ordered one and it brought back some fond memories. Generally speaking, the TV shows of today don't have exciting, catchy TV theme music, and that's a damn shame. That's been a trend ever since the '90s at least, it seems to me. There's some great TV being made today, don't get me wrong, but the TV show theme music of shows today just can't hold a candle to those of yesteryear, especially from the '60s and '70s.
ANOTHER GREAT TELEVISION SERIES action music soundtrack that really sends one back to the 1960's Era of great American small screen heroes. yowsah, bring it on, Dano!
Gran trabajo, EXCELENTE, Dinámico. GRAN OBRA E IRREPETIBLE, DINÁMICO, DA ENERGÍA E INOLVIDABLE. SABEN CON ESA MÚSICA ROBARÍA UN BANCO Y EL QUE LEA ESTO TOMARÍA CON SATISFACCIÓN LA INVITACION
I never got really into hippie thing. To me sixties are lounge music and jazzy TV and movie scores! To play horns well requires more artistry then just twangle electric guitar in some noisy stadium....
The music from the episode, Hookman, which I believe kicked off Season 6 is full of great music cues. Any chance they might be gathered together and put here for our enjoyment? Thank you for what you've given here.
@AMCKenA Sure :) Supposedly there was a Morton Stevens Demo cassette that included the music scores. I wonder how many of those tapes were sold and how many still exist.
@@jimdayton8837 You can't see me right now as I read this but my jaw has dropped in awe of your sharing this discovery with me. What I wouldn't give to find that somewhere & obtain it for my own. The music is incredible and I thank you.
@@drcrumpler You're welcome. I would love to own a copy of that demo tape too, but it's extremely rare. Maybe someday it might be remastered and released in an HD format. Who knows.

Every time I hear "Call to Danger" I can't help but think of the "CBS Special Presentation" clips from back in the day...
Yep, I keep expecting Charlie Brown to appear.
"Call to Danger" *was* the CBS Special Presentation theme (shortened, of course).
Great music from Mort perfect for the programme, every episode has its own particular style. the remake doesn't hold a candle to the original. I have all and am totally obsessed. 50 years on and still a huge following.
Morton Stevens was a genius! He had a way of capturing moods with sound. I love " The Chase" and " Interlude"!
My favorite for over 50 years and still love the theme to Hawaii 50

I'm in my 20s but still grew up with this series thanks to my dad. ♥ This is an absolute vibe and really takes me back to better times :)
I grew up on the original 5-0. Wonderful stories. Original is SO much better than new 5-0.

one of the best themes ever, thanks
I had this album. It is SO AWESOME!!!! Thank you for sharing. I wish they had this in digital format.

10/10. 🥃🥃🔥🥃🥃🔥🥃🥃🥃
Excellent. I would like to find an extensive collection of songs, cues, etc, from the first 6-7 seasons, on CD.
Thanks so much! I don't care what anyone says... "The Chase" is whammer-jammer!
Remembering way back when. LOVE LOVE IT
It's a great episode, better than the updated version on the new H5O. The music is phenomenal. Hats off to anyone who can put THAT music on youtube.
David Crumpler Agreed!

Yes Hookman is the begining of the 6th season. Just watched that one a couple days ago actually.

Whe.wrecking.crew
These tracks have that authentic 60's/70's cheesy brassy car chase scene music like something you would find in James Bond, Adam 12, Dragnet, etc.
Compared with what music has become in present day... I'll have EXTRA "cheese" please.
No Lewis Avery Filer background music?
#nostalgia
Anyone know what instrument plays at 3:13 in McGarrett's theme? It sounds kind of synthy guitar/organ.
