Mannix (Mike Connors) was not only one of the great TV stars of my childhood-- but the greatest neighbor ever too in real life. I lived across the street from him and his wife for many years. He was an amazing guy. Honored to know him and his sweet wife.
@@Platos-Den He lived in Encino, CA-- in the San Fernando Valley, just North of Los Angeles. He lived across the street from John Wayne for many years and they were friends. Unbelievably nice guy
When I hear this I'm 12 years old again, it's 1968 and babysitting my little cousin. When 10pm rolled around on Saturday night, that iconic Mannix theme would play and I'd be transfixed by the music!! Years later, I'm still transfixed by the exuberance and thrills of Schiffrin's theme. The show was OK, but the theme will stick around forever. I love hearing about how Leonard Berstein, Lalo Schiffrin and Quincy Jones all took lessons from Nadia Boulanger in composition. That's quite a trio of Maestros to brag on!
Lalo Schifrin wrote most of the popular show songs of my childhood. I think he and Neal Hefti are the most overlooked composers ever. My parents watched Mannix when I was a child and I loved the theme song even then. Thank you for sharing this magnificent mix.
Diana Ramsey Well said. My father used to watch Mannix religiously when I was a teenager. I guess he looked upon him as a man's man, whose dauntlessness and style he wished to emulate.
I was born in 1951 , so Lalo Schifrin is one of the major film music influences of my youth. I still have the vinyl LPs of Mission Impossible , Mannix, Bullitt , and Dirty Harry. (Album covers are art.) I worn out an 8-track of the soundtrack to Bullitt. Lalo, if you see this...THANK YOU!!!
For some reason the theme just popped into my head and now I cant stop listening , and that first change into the piano solo, you know the one , brings tears and strength to my eyes ,REMINDING ME OF MY DADS GENERATION and will not go away.
What a great piece of music. Just getting into jazz last several years. Forgot all about how good this song was till they started showing re-runs of Mannix on FeTv a short while back.
Tight Lope and Mannix both starring Mike Connors were also very popular in Japan. When I was a child, my father watched the under cover detective story. I do not however know the main theme composer of Mannix is Lalo Schifrin. Thank you so much for your helping me to remember late father.
Piano lessons for me as a child and into high School were very boring at times but I played by ear and when I finally learned the theme from mission impossible and mannix by the same composer Lalo schifrin it opened up this whole new world of jazz TV background music 👌
Lalo Schifrin is a genius of course, but credit also to the performers, arrangers, producers and sound engineers. Nothing this good could ever be done again unless it was someone like Tarantino insisting on a classic analogue sound.
Mike Connors was great, and Lalo Schifrin a good match in one of the best TV Jazz music scores ever! In the 1950s, Mike was a B-movie supporting actor nicknamed "Touch" Connors.
Before I saw the show I wasn't as impressed by this theme as the famous Mission:Impossible theme by Lalo Schifrin. M:I was more energetic and had that unusually rhythm while Mannix felt old fashioned. Then I actually watched the show and the theme is played way more times than M:I plays its theme! It's because the action on Mission:Impossible is actually slower "safe cracking" type scenes so instead Schifrin plays the the theme called "The Plot" over them. While the Mannix theme can be played in all kinds of variations in a single episode!
VERY HOT SOUNDS of the Sixties, baby, ready to take off after the bad guys! truly great action music soundtrack from that Era of Great American Television Heroes.
Muchas Gracias por compartir estas bandas de sonido! Gran placer y grandes recuerdos... Estará por allí la música de "Kojak"? Suscripto y siguiendo a partir de ahora. Saludos como siempre desde Córdoba, Argentina ✌🏻🇦🇷😎!
Hello and thank you so much! Unfortunately the music for "Kojak" has never been properly released on any format. If it would have been - it would have been featured here for sure... maybe someday! :-) Fred
As a trumpet player I would play one part, go back and play another. Tasty music and fun to play by ear! Question: why is this soundtrack edited? Cuts off in the midst of many selections!

I appreciate you sharing this Marshall. I gravitated to this show when I was quite young, and have treasured seeing it in syndication again recently.
I'm curious,.what town did he live in?

Except for Nixon, Vietnam, and Disco,
the 70s were a privilege to live through.
Starsky & Hutch season 1 theme! Excellent!

Great Jazz! Always loved the Mannix theme song. Rousing!
from Mannix to the Mission Impossible show Lalo Schifrin was a fabulous composer!
What do you mean "was", he is still working.
j'adore depuis très longtemps le talent et l'écriture de Mr Lalo chifrin ..un super musicos très grand arrangeur et compositeur.;
Amazing piece! This track....solidified my love for jazz...in 1969. This tune vibrates at such a high frequency.
Definitive Jazz Waltz for the Masses! Thank you Lalo!
Music I heard in my bedroom while I was supposed to be going to sleep. Thanks for the post ❤❤❤❤

One of the greatest TV songs of all times
Love that 15-second piano solo.
I just love the main track and had never known about the entire soundtrack, which is really great. Nice to know it!
Gets groovier as it goes along .....great drums...
Thank you. I have been looking for these tracks. I grew up on this show.
Oh and Mannix has been my ringtone the last two years.
GOOD FOR YOU MR VON BUREN
Excellent Lalo Schifrin

I never knew that there was a complete soundtrack!
Very 60 s ....Argentina's greatest soundtrack composer....

I would stay awake until late at night just to hear this intro… and I was seven years old!

j adorais cette musique c est toute ma jeunesse❤❤❤😂😂😂
une de mes musiques de feuilleton préférées!!!
Bill and Steve were good friends who worked closely on the driving. Bill had no lines but looked amazingly menacing.
maravilloso!
Música boa e arranjos top
Go get 'em, Joe !!
IMHO this is best opening theme of all time.
One of the most brilliant Hollywood movie soundtrack composers. He's up there in my view, with Henry Mancini and Burt Bacharach.
Grandiose !
VERY HOT SOUNDS of the Sixties, baby, ready to take off after the bad guys! truly great action music soundtrack from that Era of Great American Television Heroes.
Minha família costumava assistir essa série. Lembro demais essa música-tema.
Excelente Série , como Peter Gunn , Na Corda Bamba e Cidade Nua, faz muito tempo mas hoje em dia não há nada que se compare!
Too

ALSO STARING THE INIMITABLE GALE FISHER AS PEGGY FAIR.
As a trumpet player I would play one part, go back and play another. Tasty music and fun to play by ear! Question: why is this soundtrack edited? Cuts off in the midst of many selections!
It's why he calls them a "suite" - he's edited it down from the full recording.
Should be called "Fragments"
9' 45 superbe musique !
BELLINA
Eat your heart out
Barnaby Jones & Frank Cannon.
Mannix was THE man
&
Schifrin was THE shit.
Any idea if this is Hal Blaine and Carol Kaye I'm hearing?
Stan Levey and Carol Kaye
Mike Connors was the best on Saturday night
Ce sens du Drama
Seems very Jack Klugman and Felix Unger.
And some essence of Pink Panther thrown in!
@@excelsciors also might I add "In Like Flint" also "It Takes a Thief".
Neal Hefti wrote the theme song to the Odd Couple. Henry Mancini wrote the Pink Panther theme songs. All of these guys were around at the same time.

I MET MIKE CONNORS AT JFK AIRPORT IN NY IN 1983 IN BAGGAGE CLAIM AREA.
I always liked the theme when a bit more percussion was involved but I ain't turned up my nose at this.

the actor who played Mannix boss Joseph campania pass away just last week in TV series
Not Joseph Campania. He's Joseph Campanella.
Please get Ben Affleck to play in the movies version of Mannix.
All almost gets knocked on his head by some thugs
