Am I the only one who loves Jack Lord turning round to face the camera? Iconic.
No you're not. That and the hula girls hips, the waves crashing, Danno running, everything about this show was iconic.
My sister and I were really little when this show aired, used to lie on the floor to watch on our parents' big color set (which was encased in a piece of wooden furniture & low to the floor, back in those days). As soon as the theme song commenced, we'd jump up and get in position right in front of the screen, giggle, wait for it (the camera to do its jarring, dizzying spin up to the condo's balcony as the music crescendo-ed), & then compete to see who could do the dramatic Jack Lord spin-around the best! Fun times.
That's action Jackson.
I love that shot of Jack Lord! Back in the day it was the Friday special for my brother and sisters; right before News at 10 😊
LOVE IT!!!
Best theme song in the history of TV
Yes it is
Rawhide is close --but this is the best
Exactilioso.
Lot of great theme songs for TV shows. I don't mean iconic ones, I mean musically good ones. Mission Impossible, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (the instrumental version, not the sung one), SWAT (the 70s TV show), CHiPs, and many more ... and I would even say Laverne & Shirley, and Underdog (the cartoon from the 60s or 70s). But I agree that Hawaii 5-0 is the best of them all.
Can't forget Gilligan's island
The original Hawaii Five-O is the classic hands down.
Show was ahead of it's time stylistically. Still holds up today.
Bigtime. Most shows in the 1960s took a far slower pace to introduce their shows.
Holds up backwards too - the Greeks and Romans woulda loved it !! Ahead of its time and timeless… transcendent in time and place - in fact I use it as a litmus test for intimate compatibility - love it longtime or fuhggedaboutit!
Absolutely ahead of its time!
Without doubt, THE BEST OPENING FOR ANY T.V. SERIES......EVER!!!!!
As everyone says when Jack Lord turns around has to be the coolest thing ever! The whole intro was amazingly glamorous back in the day and still is now !!
And you notice that when Jack Lord spins around, his bangs blow gently and erratically from a true Hawaiian breeze -- not the high-speed fans that TV shows later trained on models to make their hair look wind-blown!
@@girlfriday1183 Well spotted Girl Friday. You are clearly a tv connoisseur.
I was only 10 and I thought this was the life I should aspire to - minus the crime part, of course 😂
peterwilliamskelhorn I never mentioned bangs, am afraid ur comment is lost on me.
I WAS IN LOVE..AND I WAS ONLY 6!
Best “Turn to camera” in the history of television…and that spin-pan as the jumbo flies overhead is just to die for. Loved 5.O
No wonder it's called a "star turn".
It's actually a DC-8, probably United.
The best tv show theme ever. The original Five O was ahead of it's time.
That wave is epic
The greatest opening credits sequence in the history of television.
You're dogs 🐕 right ✅ the very best
I agree. There are shows I like better, but this intro is my favorite.
I'm always torn between this and The Avengers as the best theme ever
Yes
FACTS!
A classic TV show with a timeless theme song.
“Book ‘em, Danno!” OMG, everything about this is just iconic American television.
....Murder One
Whoever created this tune is a genius; it's absolutely iconic.
The band ,name " Vinture in 1968 rock group
@Kevin Counihan , If you know the history, do the Research, The Rock Group, Venture, made the Original idea, and CBS produced the TV 📺 hit ,Part of Song 🎵, with Orchestra, Hawaii Five 'O in 1968 , Staring ', Jack Lord ,

And I never said, 5/31 / 2020
The best TV dama , Police 🚔 Dama
from, 1968 - 1981
Always think of the hula girl hips shaking to the drums. lol
Morton Aaron Stevens composed this classic
Yes that and the Mission Impossible song and James Bond.
I had the good fortune of being a pre teen and teen and living on Oahu during those years . I was a military brat but I loved, and still do, Hawaii. Something MUST be done to help local and native Hawaiian's because the real estate market is pricing them out of their homes and homesteads . This is wrong and has to be dealt with NOW !!
That drum roll at the beginning gives me chills. Love too how there’s a dramatic scene that launches into the theme song.
That drum roll is epic. Gives the intro such a moment. That's the hook. The pre credits teaser leads to the drum roll. Here we go!! 5-0
That drummer was ace.
Iconic theme tune, gorgeous scenery and the words "book em dano, murder one".. what a show, never missed an episode.
There's only one Steve McGarrett and that's Jack Lord. R.I.P. Jack.
Amen. Jack Lord will always be Steve McGarrett in my eyes. Mahalo Loa, Jack Lord, & Aloha.
Big chicken degrees
@@gloriaannopperman2734 Have to disagree. Alex played McGarrett. Jack Lord WAS McGarrett. Nobody could top him and his coolness in that role. The reboot may have lasted a while but it can't touch the original. It doesn't have the flavor.
Alex o'loughlin
@@Grupo-aurora You must be on the wrong Hawaii Five O video lol.
So unbelievably epic, greatest theme song EVER, end of subject. Jack Lord's hair should have won a boatload of Emmy's. Loved Five-0 as a kid, never missed it.
Me too!
We can thank The Ventures for this one.
I know. It beats the new one.
Utterly unsurpassable- the only possible thing “better” than the opening is … the closing !! Lol
He wore a toupee!
Every second of this opening was perfect.
The waves, the zoom in to the top of the high rise, that Garrat turn, the aircraft, the girl turning her head, the dancer.
It blew my mind as a kid.
at the end....the solo bike with the teardrop blue light flashing rushing thru kalakaua ave......I heard long ago there was a blooper shot although I forgot what part/
I love the opening of The Rifleman, The Untouchables, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Mission Impossible, and Secret Agent Man. However, I must say that the opening of Hawaii Five-O is at the top of my list.
It’s the best Intro ever!
The high rise building was the 30th floor of The LLika Hotel. The girl running on the beach then turns her head to the camera is Elizabeth Logue, the hula dancer's name is Kaneohe Oahu..
To this day the best intro of any tv show I’ve ever seen! Jack lord is that dude!
Still sounds tight and fresh in 2021 😎
Now 2023.
Elizabeth Logue was the legendary woman running on the beach while brushing her hair back as well as the last girl turning to face the camera.
The late Helen Kuoha-Torco was the legendary Polynesian dancer. Her full dance was shown in the pilot episode.
HANDS DOWN !!! COLD SMACK!!!!!!!!LORD IS THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BEST COP SHOW EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!THOSE FRIDAY NIGHT DUPES COULDNT CARRY JACKS HOLSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Born and raised on Oahu................53 now..............words cant describe how much I miss those days and that Oahu.....priceless.
If it ain’t broke...
Today’s tv shows can’t even touch the good oldies. Jack Lord and so many other passed stars would be ashamed to even watch today’s prime time tv or dramas. These shows, like Hawaii Five-O and so many others of their time, are still classics and will never be forgotten.
BRILLIANT !!!! SERIES ☺👍my Favorite episode Was The BIG BOUNTY HUNTER ZULU MAN AGAINST LITTLE WILLIE 👊👊👊👊👊👏PROPER TV PROGRAM Like the UNTOUCHABLES ☺g
One of the best TV themes ever
+mosesmosestv "One of?" :-/
mosesmosestv. Mission impossible is a very close second....
@@jameshar9592 Other way around. SWAT is third.
Best TV themes:
1. Hawaii Five-O ( best theme EVER )!
2. Mission: Impossible.
3. SWAT.
4. Baretta.
5. The Streets of San Francisco.
6. Starsky & Hutch.
7. The Rookies. That's all I got for now.
@@jameshar9592 I just listened to the MI theme before watching this video. There's no way I could choose between them. Both are wonderful!
Great ACTORS and ICONIC melody
Everything Hawaii is captured perfectly in the opening theme. Intro is bar none, the best ever.........
As dad used to say, Jack Lord was the coolest cat on television. Enough said.
Lots of shots of United Airlines DC-8s in the opening credits which always excited me because my father was a United DC-8 pilot. We even stayed a month at the Ilikai (the hotel Jack Lord is on the top floor of) when my dad retired. The aircraft interior and flight attendant uniform where also United.
A theme tune masterpiece 🏆
Jack Lord just pure epic. American legend RIP 🇺🇸🇺🇸
At 1:38 , Prof. Erich Stoss is played by Theodore Bikel.
Bikel was a master of languages, dialects, and accents,
and often played ethnic roles, such as a German officer and Serbian king.
Extensive stage, film, and film and television roles since 1950.
Played Work’s Adoptive father, Sergey Rozhenko, in Star Trek: The Next Generation
Not only the best opening ever for a show. .....but they way they always set up for a commercial was amazing.
Love love love ,this was an exceptional era ,my grandparents got me hooked on this show.its a treat to revisit the past ,🙏❤️ thanks much..
This theme brings to me such a nice memories. I love it!!
I remember watching this as a kid....my Dad was really into it. I think it is the first TV show I can remember seeing. I agree with every single comment that this is the best intro of any TV show....editing, music, photography....just great.
What a very busy and amazing opening to look at in a short period of time, coupled with the an amazing musical score, powerful, interesting, and beautiful all-in-one! They don't do them like that today!
Brilliant editing.
I actually love that opening wave, which is incredibly majestic. I read where it was actually filmed like in 1962, a couple of years before thr series. Stock footage.
57- ''that means it is 60 years old film
Probably the best opening sequence and theme of any TV series in history
Just love those big gorgeous black Mercury sedans that Steve used.
My sister and I danced to every intro and ending of every single episode. What a series.
Best theme and opening sequence bar none. My brother and I used to get so excited when this theme tune came on that we used to jump up in our PJ's and pretend to be surfing ! Jack Lord is and always will be The Man!
I also ❤ Peter Gunn by Mancini!
I remember watching this as a kid and enjoying it. It takes talent to make shows that the whole family can watch and enjoy together.
Composer: Morton Stevens. Theme performed by The Wrecking Crew! To their credit the new show's producers brought back the same musicians to record the current theme, without ruining something so iconic like so many producers would have done.
Reza Badiyi created the intro --superb editing and shots--the zoom in from ground to top of the the Ilikai Hotel with chopping angles is something you don't see today--ahead of it's time then and still today.
Like 50 years ahead! That man is a genius!!
TAKE ME BACK TO THE TIMES WHEN THIS WAS ON TV! ....The theme tune was enough to tell me it was probably bed time but I loved watching the and listening to the Intro. Ahh nice simple times.
Starring Jack Lord.... co-starring, Jack Lord's hair!
Jack Lord cut out like a James Bond figure. He had class!!
I love this original..! Love H five O..!
Best tv show intro EVER...nothing else comes close.
So true. Great music, big ass wave, big zoom to Jack Lord turning to face camera; what a cool cat. Whoever came up with this montage was a wizard.
100 percent agree. It’s the best ever!
Thank you Morton Stevens for composing this classic
TV today is really shit. This clip is awesome
Hahaha...perfectly state.
Love that drum roll with the wave coming in 😊
Love the 60's and 70's shows!!!
Jack Lord's turn, then Kam Fong's turn with the freeze-frame. Classic stuff right there.
Perhaps my favorite crime series of all time. At least right up there with the best!!
My dad's favorite show back in the day.
Such a great beat! One of the best TV drama theme no doubt.
One of the best for sure.
a classic..... the moment Jack Lord turns around is priceless.....

Edward Austin Jack Lord, and Jet Intakes in your face. Oh, and Booty shaking fast, and Kick Ass Waves
The modern version of this turn is wimpy.
Have a safe holiday.
has anyone ever looked cooler in a TV show intro than Jack Lord?
+Steve Wilkos Agree. I wanted to be like him and do that. Evidently someone else named Nora Louise Kuzma liked him so much she took his last name as her screen name. She's better known asTraci Lords.
+bbigjohnson069 Ha! No way!
Yes, only a screen name.
He is definitely Mr. Cool
one good looking dude!
Jack Lord left $40 million dollars to Hawaiian charities in his will.
Really? How cool!
@@gretchennelson9965
Jack Lord and Elvis Presley were best friends. Elvis Presley, like Lord, gave most of hide fortune away to family, friends, charities and random strangers.
I heard it was 50 million
@@robertbarse Not true - otherwise ahh would have received a cutt.''
Wow. I always had a lot of respect for Jack Lord. My respect for him has gone up many levels. May he rest in peace.
Whenever I watch the reruns , I have to catch the intro or I wont watch it . I grew up in the 60's and always loved that quick camera shot up to Lord on that building and the quick editing to this powerful theme song .
I remember my first trip to Oahu. The tour bus driver showed us the Ilikai Hotel. He said that was where they filmed Jack Lord in the opening. I just melted. I just love that part of the opening. I have to come back to UA-cam from time to time to watch it.
Must be one of the best TV theme tunes ever. I also love the extensive use of “sunburst”, “fast cutaways” and “fisheye” shots so typical of late Sixties and early Seventies films and TV...
Love it 50 years later
The whole opening credits are GREAT!-the music, visuals, camera zooming in Jack Lord TURNING ROUND! unforgettable Danno!
Jack Lord. The only other man who could possibly have played Captain Kirk. Soooo cool!
Omg you are right now can not unsee that he would have been great 🥰
I really don't think Jack Lord would have been right for that role, nor would Shatner have been right for the role of McGarret.
One of the first fast cut edits. People are used to this today but back then it was too cool
I love the zoom-in on the Ilikai tower. My girlfriend and I will be staying there when we travel to Hawaii in October.
Jack Lord was perfect for this roll, pure class act.
Book him Danno..Murder One! Best theme tune of all time with a great brass sound. Mr Lord was so cool when he turns around dropping his left eyebrow and lifting his right at the same time. My favourite part of this however is at 0.40 when that beautiful lady makes an all too brief appearance....oh how I was in love with her!
Coolest theme song ever.
This makes me nostalgic for something I never experienced... but Honolulu in the 60's and 70's must have been fantastic.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, turns around and looks straight in to the camera like Jack Lord.
Best TV intro ever made....video editing, music, etc!
Barney Fife gbcgxhdgdhdh
Absolutely. There is not even a close 2nd.
Absolutely!
If you don’t wanna go to Hawaii and / or travel the world after this intro there’s no helping you. Perfection!!!
Not video editing...FILM editing...Waay tougher !
The intro to this great series was a show in itself! 🌊
Best opening to any crime show ever! Always loved that zooming in to McGarrett at 00:30.
McGarrett/Lord was man's man not like the pimp daddies we see on tv today.
I also like to watch the ending with the guys in the outrigger.
Amazing memories of watching HAWAII FIVE O with Mum in Ireland during the 1970s, excellent American TV drama production - Jack Lord was excellent and the theme tune intro is simply unbeatable.
As a child in Missouri in the '70s, I couldn't believe Hawaii was a state..it looked so 'foreign'..:)
The best TV theme ever!
My father was in the Navy stationed in Hawaii. We would always see the filming of this wonderful series.. there's no better theme song ever written.
and the film crews then would NOT hog a whole block just to reserve for the crew trucks and staff!!! few years ago....driving in old Kalaeloa military section.....came past one of the film trucks owned by a movie production company.....was torched, as in arson.
Oh I remember these days when flight attendents were still called STEWARDESSES and still believed they were in a position of SERVICE and not acting like they OWNED the aircraft. I took my very first airplane ride in the mid-80s at the age of 18 (NOBODY under 18 was allowed to FLY back then), and you could still SMOKE and DRINK (YES the drinking age was 18 then) until RONALD REAGAN ruined it for all of us. I was flying from Connecticut to Florida to live with my late mother who had just retired to Florida. It was the first time I was ever south of the Mason/Dixon line. Those were the days.
The intro is terrific. The babe at 0:43 is stunning! What a fox!
Jack Lord.... THE MAN!!
This was one of those shows our whole family would watch we lived in a drab Midwestern town and we would watch just to see beautiful Hawai’i now decades later I’ve actually made it to Hawai’i and I’m watching this now!
And let's not forget the scene of "Zulu as Kono" busting onto the gangway of the "Arcturus" with the rifle. That's pretty awesome as well.
Jack Lord was 6'7". He used to visit the sick at Tripler Army base in Hawaii. Good man.
No way. He wasn't that tall.
Timpani drums, low brass and French Horns... Magic.
Great music, great shows
One of the all-time great opening themes for a TV show that featured one of the all-time great bad-ass good guys. Great memories!
Ditto. Opening theme is best of all time. Just rockin’!
Brings me back to childhood. Good memories
Loved the spoof in Mad mag back in the 70's; remember Dummy Williams. I still remember the scene where Dummy is in a bar talking to a barfly and she catches on that he's a cop; she says " Your a cop, a flat foot John Law" and he says " Naw, I'm none of those, I'm a policeman." Boy for a teenager in the 70's those were fun days. Well for me it was.
Jack Lord was Hawaii 5 O and Hawaii 5 O was, Jack Lord......
yes, the last one not yet dont like me
Jack had a reputation for living up to his last name when it came to iron handedly calling the shots on anything having to do with most if not all aspects of production, direction, writing, and the cast; but all in all, Yeah:he WAS 5-O.
Cutting edge show. Intro and outro true art. Never been bested.
Best ever!Even the blue lights racing thru the streets at the end is originally shot.Incedible.
Best Intro ever for a TV show.I remember as a kid that those first 2 minutes had me paralyzed.Jack Lord was the Man!
My favorite TV show as a kid. It took me from 1st grade (1968) to 12th grade (1980). Love that black Mercury.
MY FAVORITE THEME SONG AND TV SHOW. WISH THEY PUT OLD HAWAII 50 ON TV AGAIN. I USED TO WATCH HAWAII GROWING UP. MADE SURE I GOT MY HOMEWORK DONE SO I COULD WATCH HAWAII 50.
The perfect "storm" of actors, setting, plotting and theme!
That Kono Running Full Speed With That Shotgun Classic
Now I live in Hawaii and when I first came someone played this on the bus, I was stoked!
I learned the percussion part in elementary school way back when and can stilll play it - even though I'm not a badass anymore. Damn...rhis song is one that makes me still feel alive! Mahalo!
Perfect intro, Jack Lord was so classy.
