Yup, definite real dude. Plays like a grownup, knows his way around the changes, and knows how to sound good. And it really comes across in this particular clip.
I got to see him front row in a small venue a couple of years before he passed. He signed a bass I brought and was a kind man. Fantastic guitar player.
As a former drummer, it is so very difficult for just one person to get that drum beat down. And they have to in unison. I hope some people realize how difficult that was.
dual drummers are great for marching bands, but I've never cared for the concept of two drummers in rock bands. For a song like this, I don't really see the need for two drummers. It's somewhat insulting to the drummer. It's not like having Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich on the same stage. With Ringo's All Star Band, there's a clip on youtube of them doing "Grovin" by the Rascals. Ringo and another drummer playing at the same time, plus the sax player on Conga drums. All three of them playing and no one played the Conga part that Dino Danelli played; LISTEN TO THE SONG ON THE RECORD!
@@baboononskates Like your comment on not understanding having two drummers. I posted the same. Being a drummer, I think it makes no sense for rock bands to have two drummers. One song I consider to be difficult as a drummer is "One Way Out" by the Alman Brothers. I play that song with the group I'm in quite often, and there's almost no way to get that grove the two drummers get when they did the song live, with one drummer. There's some kind of syncopation going on there that needs two drummers. Other than that, there's a mistake you can here in the live version on the LP at the end of the drum solo. It's either a screw up by the drummer or drummers, or maybe more likely, that the bass player started playing at the wrong time at the end of the drum solo. It's pretty obvious if you hear the record. I think it is somewhat insulting to have Ringo playing drums with other drummers at the same time, for example. I posted as well, how Ringo's All Star Band was doing "Grovin" by the Rascals, with Ringo and one other drummer, plus the sax player was playing conga drums. Between the three percussionists, none of them played the conga part that Dino Danelli played on the record. It kind of blows the whole song if not even the guy playing Conga drums plays the dominant conga part.
Growing up in Hawai’i during the 60’s , watching Hawaii Five-0, the intro was the best. Between the ocean sports , beautiful hula dancers being shown and this song playing, everyone’s attention was on the tv screen. Great memories.
@Superb Media Content Creator I loved it at the end of the show . Greetings from Ireland . Did you know Jack lord was Irish his real name was John Joseph Ryan .
Thanks. The Ventures are one of the most important, influential and underrated bands I can think e. They were great. Never get tired of hearing from them
I’ve only just realized he drummed all the most awesome percussion that was around when I was a kid. All the really big songs, he was the engine room. He’s been involved in so many epic songs, just more than you’d guess if like me you don’t know anything about drummers.
Thanks to my parents I grew up listening to these guys and not only have I inherited all of their record albums but I have a bunch of those albums on CD as well. I have always loved the Ventures and their album Ventures in Space is outstanding.
For the TV show, this theme was filmed just outside my home town in the Mojave Desert. Then I saw Hawaii 5-0 at my grandma's house and it sent chills down my spine. It was actually a little scary to a small kid! But unforgettable too,as are all the Ventures' tunes I ever heard back then.
Unfortunately they don’t show the original one on tv so I’m stuck with the new version, which isn’t half bad. Hawaii 5 0 and mash are my favorite old shows. Could watch them all day
@@jeffe9083 - The show was on for several years, and the theme song was re-recorded a couple of times, adding horns and a few choppy video-clipping effects on the drum turn arounds. I can remember when the show was in rerun mode(before the series ended), and there were some episodes where the music seemed especially good. I never was able to get the complete series to go fishing for the version that I liked better, but I know that there is one, one of the theme re-recordings from a later season, that's MUCH better. It's hard to determine what can be done to find it, the show was locked down by Jack Lord, star of the original series, who grabbed control of the series. He had been burned by Hollywood once, and did everything he could to avoid unwelcome news from industry money guys who didn’t like him.
This is great! Hawaii 5O...the late Jack Lord, late James Mac Arthur and so many other actors/ actress. This instrumental piece till now is still legendary.
This is why I love to see professionals work! They all do their part so effortlessly! I've loved Max Weinberg for years and years but the dude in the hat is just playing his electric guitar like it's no challenge at all.
That's the legendary Nokie Edwards. His playing is smooth as silk. Nobody can play it as well as him. The bass player Gerry takes Nokia's spot on occasion. He's very good and comes close to Nokie. Originally Nokie played bass and Gerry played lead and they switched early into their careers of the Ventures ✌
Love it.. this is the song that helped me feel lighter and hopeful after my divorce talk with my ex-husband 8 years ago!!! And i kept listening to this song everytime i feel blue or down… i feel like dancing now… thank you for sharing
What an all-star cast; Max Weinberg on the left drum kit, Harry Shearer on the right, and Burt Reynolds absolutely wailing on the surf guitar! Man, the 70’s were outta sight!
I cut my drumming teeth playing along with the Ventures album. I would drum on my mother's foot stool in the living room of our house as the record played on the console stereo player. Later in life I would play Wipe Out as part of stage show when I was a professional musician in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. What memories! Thank you Ventures!
