Steve became a Christian when he got sick, he attended church for a while and talked to the pastor for hours, when he died in the hospital, he had a Bible on his chest, before he died he was reading it. See you in heaven steve.
Well, I guess that that is not surprising. I wonder which church that was. A contractor in our church was doing a remodel for him back then. They seemed to be friends, but I don't know how close. Our church, "Faith of Our Father's " was very active back then in the south bay of Los Angeles, and John Daley could have been a part of all that. The admiration of celebrities seemed a tad idolatrous, so I had no interest in working on that job.
With all these digital technology , I don't think they can make a movie like Buillitt . Lalo was light years a head with his background score. Hats off to direc tor Peter Yates & Steve Mcqueen.
Other than the main actors, the Director used REAL Cops, Medical staff, etc in Bullitt. Not the usual practice at the time. Just one of those all-around classic films that will live on!
Saw it in the theater when it came out, everybody was on the edge of their seat. Before car chases became a cliché, and McQueen was the King of Cool. Never realized the OST was by Lalo (M:I) Schifrin ! Thanks for posting.😊
Steve McQueen rocks in this movie. The chase scene is about as real as you can get, with no real music drowning out the real sounds of a car chase, and McQueen did most of his own driving. And who doesn't like the cars of that time? Ya, I know huh? I was 11yrs old when me and some friends snuck into the theater to see this movie.
It opened the door for a generation of car chases, but without a doubt the one that evokes the fondest memories for a generation of people and not to forget the one and only Steve Mc Queen, just wonderful, he left us far too early.
This film had many ingredients that made it a classic for all time - Schiffrin's score is one of those, like the John Barry tunes on the early, and best, Bond films. Brilliant stuff.
Believe me, there are still thousands of young people practicing their musical instruments for hours upon hours every day. And many of those talented musicians dream of being able to earn a living making music. Was it “the industry” that killed the goose that laid the golden egg?
Probably one of the best soundtracks of the 60's and early-mid 70's movies. The word, "Groovy", comes to mind in certain places as well as chilling aspects, which add suspense. The cadence is so beautifully paced too that you can imagine the actual scenes- at least I can as I've watched movie so many times and still find it riveting as I do the cars and the scenery.
@@karimtabrizi376 Absolutely! I could drive all day to this and music from Le Mans- Great score too- Michel Legrand- France's answer to the great Lalo Schifrin.
It's would still be cool to be driving around SF or anywhere listening to the Bullitt soundtrack but just out of curiosity what Decade did you use to drive around SF listening to the Bullitt soundtrack?
This cannot really be put into words. The coolest music ever for a movie and if that wasn’t enough, the King of Cool himself starring in the leading role! RIP Steve McQueen. See you in Heaven!
I liked this movie when I first watched it on tv in the 1970s as a teenager. I remember the car chase seen and the music too. Unfortunately, the channel aired a sensored old print version of the movie. It wasn't until the film was released on VHS tape that I got to see the full theatrical version. Now I have it on DVD and bluray disc. Steve McQueen was one of those cool actors that had a rough edge manner about him.
I'm not a big fan of jazz music but this is a great soundtrack to one of my favourite Steve McQueen's movies. The music captures the style and mood of the film setting.
"You work your side of the street. I'll work mine." Just like the music by Lalo - one of the coolest lines ever. And Bullitt hiding the body - what a smooth move!
Had the chance to meet the great very humble composer lalo schifrin one night I will never forget with another great James Morrison two of the best in the business tough movie tough song.
This guy Lalo Schifrin is a genius!! There was also a very cool vibe coming onto the music scene in 1968 with horns, a Hohner, thrashing guitarist just as good if not better than Hendrix...it was the early days of "Chicago" and boy were they fabulous. Finally a long-overdue induction into the Rock Hall of Fame. P.s. I vote for the '68 Charger as the greatest rear end on any car of the 1960s.
He started in 1963 doing many TV and movie soundtracks one of them being the sound track for The TV series Mission Impossible and Decades later the Mission Impossible movies sound tracks
Have done the SF Bullit tour twice and this music so captured the 60s mood and Mcqueens cool persona. In my view this was Mcqueens greatest role and Lalos greatest score.
My ears tell me this is the "re-do" with the WDR Big Band rather than the original soundtrack. Thank you for this excellent compilation. The Cincinnati Kid, Bullitt, and Dirty Harry were magnificent 60's film scores by the Brilliant Lalo.
First a huge thank you to you for your hard work and time to post a movie sound track that is all musically balanced and if you have seen the movie “once or twice” yes I know. The influence of natural rhythms outside of the film goers of that time and enjoying a awesome movie with no drama no silly and awesome car chase that is still the “ Gold Standard” every car chase in any movie released after this is a top ten contender for car chases in cinema
As a african teenager living in britain in the 70s, this was a difficult era to live in both here and in america for african americans, native americans, and latinos. But that aside, the music such as this track and other great music of this era was magical to listen to.
A very much Jazz inspired film score. This must go down as one of the greatest film scores ever written, also by one of the best writers in Lalo, with one of the all time great actors in Steve Mcqueen
I have a signed photo from Lalo which he sent me a few years back when I told him I'd written a book about Richard Wattis who starred in the film THE LIQUIDATOR [1965] - theme tune by Lalo!
About 20 years ago I sent him an email asking a question about alternate arrangements for the Bullitt soundtrack. He replied in detail within a few days. He's just a great guy.
Definitely the 60s so cool Mr McQueen. Although I was too young in the 60s, but i lived through an era of excellent movies ,that era was definitely the 70s and 80s. Going to movies was fun than and you looked forward to it, today movies are expensive and that magic isn't just there.
This movie charged my life and is probably why I am a filmmaker today. Growing up in SF i jumped those very same hills. Bicycles, skateboards, even a shopping cart! Later motorcycles and cars would take things a bit too far. Obviously, Steve McQueen was a bad infuence.
Mustang vs Charger Tearin' up the streets of San Francisco.....LOVE IT!!!
This is the best soundtrack I've ever heard.
I could never get tired of this MASTERPIECE. Lalo Schifrin kicks ass.
Bullitt and Dirty Harry - two great scores from the master, Lalo Schifrin.
And Charley Varrick.
Yes, you can hear a bunch of Dirty Harry sounds in this score too, beginning with the opening one in this suite!
And ‘Mission Impossible!’
I'm a real fan of CV. Thanx!
enter the dragon
One of the best movies and best soundtracks ever.
Who else is listening to this in 2019, about 50 years after the film was released?
They don't call it classic for nuthin!
I used to have this as a ring tone! It was with Virgin and one of the ring tone options was the score to Bullitt. (2003)
A Shifrin masterpiece - still will be in 2068.
Good jazz music is always classic
Was just on tv

This music is so iconic and so cool. It's a shame it's almost forgotten.
We won't forget!❤
It's definitely NOT forgotten, I guess you need a bit of class to be into this stuff
When music was REAL MUSIC.
Masterpiece
pffffff...
1:09 Kills me. The arrangement is so wicked. I love this. The Horns...
I love that part to bro!!
We need music like this in movies again. Laylo made the incredible Enter the Dragon soundtrack which is a masterpiece.
Masterpiece of XXth century music !
Merci. Vrai moment de plaisi👍r
With all these digital technology , I don't think they can make a movie like Buillitt .

This soundtrack has so much to offer that makes a jazz aficionado's heart jump for joy.
Cool music. Cool actor. Cool action. Cool plot. What more can we ask for?
agreed! and a very HOT car chase thru SFO
And a cool car.
Other than the main actors, the Director used REAL Cops, Medical staff, etc in Bullitt. Not the usual practice at the time. Just one of those all-around classic films that will live on!
To bring back 1968 and be 14 again!
balls out driving action? oh wait! We got that too!

Lalo is from Argentina, proud of him !
You should be none better!
But he’s not Argentinean though is he. He’s Jewish.
@@Codreanu110 Why would that make him not Argentinian?
@@bobohare4825 oh work it out. He’s not exactly of Argentinean stock now is he. Just like an African born in England doesn’t make him English.
@@Codreanu110 That's hardly for you to decide. At any rate, Schifrin is Argentinian.
Awesome soundtrack and a brilliant actor who sadly left up too soon. Also one of my all time favourite films follwed by The Great Escape.
Fabulous sound track!
This film had many ingredients that made it a classic for all time - Schiffrin's score is one of those, like the John Barry tunes on the early, and best, Bond films. Brilliant stuff.
You could throw in Henry Mancini (Peter Gunn and The Pink Panther themes) as well.
Remember when humans used to play music? Good times!
and even sing the songs themselves, now its all auto tune and computerised garbage!!
Believe me, there are still thousands of young people practicing their musical instruments for hours upon hours every day. And many of those talented musicians dream of being able to earn a living making music. Was it “the industry” that killed the goose that laid the golden egg?
...Lado the Best!
through the headphones the sound and mix are so incredibly precise you can even hear the work of the drummer on his hi hat !
Music that truly captures SF in the 60s.
Lalo Schifrin, Un expert du son 🎶 en activité. Puissance instrumentale et douces mélodies se complètent à la perfection.
This movie has not only the best car chase ever filmed but a soundtrack that is AWESOME!
The Polo Player
What, a better car chase than ‘The French Connection’ ?

Il piu spettacolare inseguimento della storia cinematografica
Watched Bullitt recently. Hadn't seen it for 45yrs! What struck me this time was the music. So coooooooooooolllllll.
saw this movie as a kid, met Lalo Schifrin 40 years later. Composed movie music is a lost art now.
Classic ... best SF soundtrack ever. Love Lalo Schifrin. :) :)
what a brilliant score; just as brilliant as when I first heard it on the movie...over 40 years ago!
Can't tell you how much I loved driving around SF with this playing in my car. :D
Moving and nice movie theme. Mc quin.wsd different among Hollywood stars.

Like Bogart
A touch of Jazz, a touch of Blues, Motown, Country, and you got an automatic GEM!!!!!
one of my faves, both movie and Lalo´s music
I'm not a big fan of jazz music but this is a great soundtrack to one of my favourite Steve McQueen's movies. The music captures the style and mood of the film setting.
Warp Prime 42 you said a lot in your meaningful comment
Lalo also did the Dirty Harry soundtracks, so the man has a musical "Feel" for both the city and the genre of movie
YOU AREN'T A FAN OF JAZZ AND YOU ADMIT THAT?!!
Not being a fan of jazz is like saying you like candy but you're not that fond of chocolate.
Agree with you, I'm not a jazz fan, but Schifrin is the ONLY ONE who captures me with his style and music.
"You work your side of the street. I'll work mine." Just like the music by Lalo - one of the coolest lines ever. And Bullitt hiding the body - what a smooth move!
This is classic. The Brass and that Bass Saxophone are too cool!

Put simply:one of the best Goddamn soundtracks of the 1960's!
Hard to pick a best because the 60's had so many. Definitely the best decade for soundtracks with Shiffrin, Mancini, Bacharach
Lalo Schifrin was the cat to see back in the 70's if you wanted a funky jazzy soundtrack for your film.
He started in 1963 doing many TV and movie soundtracks one of them being the sound track for The TV series Mission Impossible and Decades later the Mission Impossible movies sound tracks
Stirs a lot of emotions and after all is heard we are left with a beautiful outro

Saw the great film at the drive in and now own a deluxe soundtrack.
Juste magnifique.
Superb piece of music, especially the little bit of "the way to San Mateo" at 7:04. Lalo Schifrin is great.
I think this is "On the way to San Mateo" ?
This was the movie that introduced me to the 1960s Mustang car. I'm not really a car enthusiast but the Mustang has become my favourite vehicle.
