"Niva" (known under the names VAZ-2121 "Niva", Lada Niva, LADA 4x4 and LADA Niva Legend) is a Soviet and Russian off-road vehicle - a small SUV with a load-bearing body and permanent all-wheel drive.
Serially produced since April 5, 1977 (until 2006 it was sold under the name VAZ-2121 "Niva" in the domestic market, and as Lada Niva in export markets, from 2006 to 2021 under the name LADA 4x4, since 2021 - LADA Niva Legend) .
The British researcher of the Soviet automotive industry Andy Thompson considers the Niva the direct ancestor of the compact crossover class, which the creators of the Suzuki Vitara were guided by. Some experts call it the best car in the history of the Volga Automobile Plant, it is the most successful export model of VAZ in history.

Very interesting, it's extremely rare to see that early/pre-1984 example of Niva 1600/2121, less indeed in such outstanding condition and even less in some video review.
In case of rear seat folding - you had a wrong approach at both 6:54 and at 7:40, but correct at 8:13. You just had to push the recliner at 8:19 slightly more back (press it into the seating of the seat) and then return the front (driver's) seat back from the tilted position, where its recliner would then "rest" onto the back side of the folded rear seat's recliner, which is upside-down (you would most probably have to adjust the front seat a little more forward to the steering wheel in order to do so, because Niva pretty much lacks interior space due to its short wheelbase).
I have an 1988 example of Niva 1600/2121 (original condition) for a few years and I've folded the rear seat dozens of times without problem. The method of folding of the rear seat really is somewhat odd and slightly awkward (maybe also a little complicated, yes), but it's far from anything horrible or barely possible.
The only thing that's pretty annoying is the fact that you must hold the tilted frontal seat with your butt the entire time while preforming the folding of the rear seat.
Also, the only thing of which you must be very careful of is not to accidentally break plastics on these side trims (onto which the rear ashtrays are fixed) with both edges of the rear seat's recliner, because these trims are pretty thin and due to that very fragile (I've witnessed results of many Niva 2121 owners accidentally breaking these trims while trying to fold the rear seat).
That's why the best and the most careful way to fold it is to hold the top of the recliner with the one hand and the back side of the seating with the other (as you shortly did at 8:16).
Anyway, great video and I hope there will be more about Niva 2121. :)

I have a 96 model.niva in chile.its not perfect...but its a great and fun car...i have traveled all chile in the lada niva although driving at 85km/h

Reminds me of a Suzuki Samurai/ Jimny, or Daihatsu.
