In my country (Croatia) most hunters drive these EXACTLY BECAUSE it's so basic and simple as that makes them reliable and they are amazing off road since they are short and narrow
And because we dont have enough money to buy G class or Land Rover just for hunting, like Englishman do. :D Golf mk2 or older astras are also very good because of their off road capabilities. :)
The seat airbag has a simple reason: Regulations in Europe say, you need to have an airbag. But they don't say what airbag is that supposed to be. So, instead of remaking the whole steering rack to allow the airbag to be placed inside the wheel, and half of the car (because they would need to move the seat further back and to the right), they simply put one into the seat. It has an airbag, so it is legal. Job done.
@@billynomates920 it's russian, remember? There are at least 4 places where to put an AK and at least 2 more to fit an RPG-7. You should be able to mount an RPK tripod to the roof and shoot while standing up and there is a shooting position for your SVD when you fold rear and one of front seats.
I worked in a project in Sudan and we had Toyota Land cruisers and Nivas. In the rainy season only Nivas could move in the African mud roads. Although much more comfortable, the Land cruisers were getting stuck after 50 meters. And by the way, the front and rear bumpers were moving on a tough springs! So in minor collisions - the bumper does the great job of absorbing the hit without ANY damage, a real active bumper how it should be. And the outer car shape is simple and lovely in the short version.
Niva: 1.3T with 185/R16 LC70 hardtop: 1.6T 205/R16 so if they are pumped to the simialr pressure ... the Niva has a ground pressure 15-20% less than LC70 hardtop which is the lightest LC
I owned one in the early 90s. Extremely uncomfortable, pain to drive, impracticle but absolute fun and lovable. I drove it through gulleys, rivers, beaches, sand dunes, ice roads, snowstorms on mountain roads, anywhere you can even hardly walk. Nothing in its price range can be compared. It does everything that an old classic Land Rover can do, at a fraction of the price. It can climb and descend stairs. Its heater is awesome, you can bake a cake at full blast - very handy in a Russian winter. Never left me stranded. Everyone should get one at least for a while, preferably while young and without kids. Warning: She can easily lose grip on a wet asphalt road and roll over, as I did once. Noone was hurt!
Well, the newest models has bit better comfort than the old ones like heated seats and other stuff. And the 5 door model is more practical than the 3 door version but it has worse offroad capability.
Arsenic - I'm sure he was going at a speed that was not appropriate for the conditions, which is an easy mistake to make when you're on a relatively smooth surface
@@julianbrelsford You guessed right, it had just started raining a drizzle turning the surface dust and debris into a carpet of miniscule roller bearings. This would not have happened if the rain was heavier, or it had rained for a while. I entered a curve a tad fast and touched the brakes. Immediately the car started spinning around like a whirling dervish, came alongside the curb and did a sideways half somersault into the ditch by the roadside. Luckily all speed had bled off by then, there were no cars following closely while we spun around, and we were wearing seat belts. We hung upside down from our seats for a short while.
I'm an American that has lived in Russia for the last 7 years. During this time I have owned 2 Lada Niva. This car is incredibly dependable. It is very practical and is almost impossible to get stuck. I did a stupid thing one time and had the Ice break underneath me and I did get my Niva high-centered. You can repair it yourself if anyting needs work and it drives without fail. Still running when I sold both of mine. If you want a little bit more performance around town drop it into low and then it's not so slow off the line. You can run through the gears pretty quick and you can do about 40 mph using 5th gear in low range. all in all a very good experience with this truck. A little context, I was a car dealer in the United States and have owned 1400 cars in my life. I have owned Land Rovers in Jeeps as well as a whole array of Japanese off-road vehicles. The original Ford Bronco was pretty nice as well. But for off-road use sheer practicality you can't beat the Niva
Bought one brand new in 1989 and told the dealer in Belgium to fit A/C, he looked at me as if I was mad. The car was sent to Greece where I live, I took it for its first service to the Lada importer, they couldn’t believe it had A/C. Amazing off road, reliable, built for a purpose, it was brilliant
I absolutely love that it IS simple - no infuriating touchscreens with endless bloody menus, touch sensitive control and all the unnecessary crap that modern cars are bridled with. What an honest, reliable and touch little machine. A pint sized G-Wagon with none of the pretence.
The computers that make cars complicated are there bc of environmental emissions. The UK selling this car kinda blows a hole into their “we are world leaders in environmental emissions” 😂 this car is literally THE worst air polluting car on sale on earth.
@@LudiCrust. No, it's definitely not. It still has electronic fuel injection, two oxygen sensors and catalytic converter, as any modern car does. With its tiny 1,7L hemi engine it's your average polluter as it is, not the worst one.
Have to agree with this. I bought a mitsubishi as a rough and tumble car for long drives with a bit offroading capability. All great, but naturally they've insisted on putting a touchscreen on it and it is utter crap, and more of a hazard than a help when driving, not to mention the cacophony of bleeps and whistles that go off at random, none of which I have a clue what they mean. Of course thats not as bad as some newer cars, I drove a kia loaner with 'lane assist' that tried tugging the steering wheel off you on the motorway! I'm convinced there is a market for simple, 90s/early 2000s style cars with a simple dash with a radio and CD player, I wish car makers would take note
It’s not reliable at all. So funny when westerns think that lada is reliable just because it has no advanced solutions 😂 it has none of them + it rottens as hell and literally fall apart fast as hell. Completely shit car
I had a 1992 Niva, absolutely loved it. Pushed it too hard, blew the motor. Biggest regret was selling it instead of repairing. Most fun on 4 wheels you could have
I’m all for appreciating your own vehicles no matter what you might drive. That being said, it seems disingenuous to say this car provides the most fun you can have out of every 4 wheeled vehicle on earth, there’s a lot of really really fun cars out there, there’s no way this one takes the cake.
@picoman It's a figure of speech. For them, it is the most fun 4WD. I had a Lada Niva in the early 90s as well. Off road it was brilliant. And it certainly out performed a Nissan Patrol in the Spanish Sierra Nevada. The Nissan was driven by the Guardia Civil who were showing us the way after we got lost on the mountain dirt roads. Their vehicle had real difficulty on some rocky ground that little Vlad the Niva took in its stride. On road it was a bit underpowered it's true. Towards the end there were starting problems, but I had thar with a Ford Mondeo as well. Of course there are better cars out there, but AT THE PRICE (then at least) there was no better 4x4 on the market.
Here in Germany you see this car A LOT! In the countryside that is, many farmers and foresters use one because its probably the best and cheapest car off-road... No expensive electronics, you can do everything yourself to keep this car running (if you know what you are doing that is) i really love the longer full 4 seater version.
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 you are a genius, because you decided to compare fret for 17k and def for 45k (moreover, this is a minimum, and few people buy a minimum). But still, the main difference between Lada Niva and Def is that you are not afraid to scratch the niva, you can even say it’s not a pity. And the capabilities of a car, including off-road, are always limited by the capabilities of the driver.
@@caa7874 Defenders are worth lots now but before production ended you could get a decent one here for 2k so most farmers and foresters already have 1 or 2 defenders that were bought cheaply, defenders are only expensive abroad in the UK they're still cheap workhorses
I'd imagine Germans being very good at building cars they'd have some of their own alternative. But I guess if there's a cheap and available vehicle, people are gonna use it. Niva is popular in Sweden too, for off-road(farmers and such).
What amazes me about this car is how somehow it looked amazing compared to other cars when it got first released, then it started to look shit and now it again looks amazing. True classic
Im finnish and when I was a kid Lada was very common around here, as were Moschovitz and Wartburg lol. Lada was a safe car, I mean its started on every time, it didnt matter if there had been -40C, it started like underneath the palm tree .
G Class introduced new tech though with new models. Apparently no airbags needed in a NIVA because in an accident you die no matter what, if you are driving a NIVA.
I've got a friend who owns a Lada Niva, had it from his father who bought it in the 80s. It's got terrible fuel consumption and no fancy stuff inside, but he loves it and I did too when we went off road with it. This car is a legend!!!
@@KolbPROD The power of this car was good, given how light it is. Here in Spain we´ve got rough terrains, and it was capable of climbing any rocky hill. My friend teased me by saying "a little bit more power to this thing and it could climb walls". But on the motorway you could see how the fuel indicator was dropping fast. It was an 80s registered car with a 70s design, fuel consumption was never in their minds.
it's a very simple and utilitarian car, here in Russia the base version starts from about third of a price you get there. it can be fixed with a hammer and a screwdriver and a bit of a punch with your leg. I have tried it offroad and for that it's amazing. hope you enjoyed our pride and beauty:)
@@marius4iasi did they have to design a release system for the hatch? No. Well then, it's simple. Also Matt could've folded down the rear seats, if he actually pulled the front seats forward the bit, after that you can put the rear ones down and put the front ones back in their desired position.
Me and my friends have Nivas, one of them didn't change the oil for 4 years (not to mention filters) but still runs great. The other one needs to go every day to work off-roading and towing 1200 kilos every often, this one doesn't have 4th gear but runs ok. And mine is in a very good condition, but not one of theese have gone to a mechanic for years! (at least 6 years) This is how reliable they are!
I bought a 1990 Niva Cossack for £70 in 2005.. I'd owned series land rovers before and done greenlaning in them. The Niva was fantastic compared to them..it was comfortable even with the offset pedals. It would cruise at 60mph in 5th ...a gear more than the landys..Off road it was amazing...I did ruin it by fitting higher profile mud tyres, which made it unstoppable off road but changed the gearing so hills required downshifts ,and eventually wore the clutch out..The clutch replacement was to big a job for me to do as a DIY mechanic.. But I had 2 years out of it...I've owned RR classics,Discovery's and defenders since..And I'd buy another Niva tomorrow.. They're quirky, fun and a pleasure to own 😊😊😊
Honestly, that interior is pretty much what I want from a car. No ocean of touchscreens to collect fingerprints and to distract you, a simple AC setup and a regular car radio. No hundreds of kilos of depreciating electronics either.
There's a lot of aftermarket parts, engines and other options for Niva - it really is a legendary car, considering it's age. You can create something like a Soviet G-wagon.
Giving a comparison to Star Wars lore - it's like YT-1300 light freighter, which in propper hands can be turned into legendary Millenium Falcon, by years of aftermerket modifications, limited only by laws of physics)
A farmer friend had one of these (not registered for the road half the time as it was just for driving around muddy fields). He said it never got stuck, even in places where his Defender had bogged down, plus with the rear seat removed it had room on the back for a sick sheep!
i´d wager that is mostly due to the extremely high weight of the Defender. A problem with modern offroaders for sure is that ridiculous weight of up to 3 tons of some.
@@agathisthegreat same reason why a jimny is fairly good. It doesn‘t have either big wheels, nor any actual power nor huge ground clearance, but it‘s only 1 Ton and thus already ahead of most other vehicles. Also same reason why a Dacia Duster can do what alot of SUVs can‘t.
@@agathisthegreat "Light". That's precisely the Niva's second worst problem. The body structure is too weak for real offroading, it twists too eagerly and the more it twists the faster it rusts. Perhaps the ones made by Valmet for exports to Europe were not as weak - the Finns used superior steel.
i got one one used , added a turbine , pneumatic diff locks, lift, bigger wheels, a wrench , nice seats, lights and had the best offroad time ever, pulling out jeeps and toyotas fron time to time. its cheap and versitile and you just dont know what it is all about. certainly have got another car for every day life, but niva is just one special.
Niva is literally a car for agricultural workers, hunters and fishermen. It's a tank that can drive everywhere and never gets stuck. Tank doesn't need to be fast nor comfortable. It's reliable and durable. And it's easy to maintain by yourself. (Literally, my dad repaired it with a stick out in the wilderness)
Indeed it was designed for farmers to go in fields and meant to replace old GAZ-69 and alike military cars with something more civil and comfy. "Niva" from Russian literally means wheat field. Also there are other stuff, unrelated to the car but related to farmers and had similar name like HF radio gear for farmers and also a wheat harvester.
My uncle was working as a technician on those huge national radio-tv antennas on top of the hills and mountains, and whole life Nada Niva was his company car, because he had to reach those antennas where human foot could not step. In the last 35 years, he drove about 5-6 of them. A few of them were air-conditioned with the servo, but all of them had 2 things that haven't been changed: mechanism and smell of the fuel inside🤣🤣🤣
Because this car is a serious off roader, the doors are water tight, even Matt mentioned the door closing sound, so when closing the doors the pressure inside the cabin becomes very high and those c pillar vents is to release that pressure...
Matt is getting richer and further away from reality. I remember 80s- we were 4 adults and 5 kids in one of these going from one village to another. Did the job perfectly 😅
@@AlexanderTch we had a couple of Nivas but never put more than 2 adults and 2 kids in. Remember we got it stuck, only once, in a river that was deeper than the doors - we had a couple of weeks of school runs with smelly river water washing around in the footwells. Glorious days.
Actually, the Vesta was an all-new Lada several years ago when it was introduced. It’s a cheap car (think Dacia), but for a cheap car it’s fairly decent and modern.

@@user-ki2yg2mm5y ABS and airbags are certainly useful. They won't be able to purchase airbags, these come from the west. Same applies for several other features, such as ABS. Russia can not produce it, they can produce war. What I do not need are rain sensors, lane assist, automatic door openers, fart detectors.
I had one as a farm car when I was young, the interior was absolutely falling apart and was pretty rough to drive but it went wherever and absolutely anywhere you pointed it, mechanically it was indestructible
What I appreciate about it is that it's simple. That simplicity is something most car companies need to go back to. Sure a big screen is nice sometimes but sometimes having knobs and switches for everything is nice too. I really do wish that companies would sell a more analog hot hatch again.
Fun fact, a screen of a gen 2 prius consumes ~20w of electricity, while for 3 rotary switches you can get away with 3w. Infotainment and climate controls MUST BE KEPT SEPERATELY FOR ACTIVE SAFETY REASONS.
Much as I love the old school Niva, I think it's best as a second car, or for off-roading, as it would just not be possible for it to meet modern safety standards. The mechanicals and quality control could be kicked up a notch for better performance and reliability though.
@@reallyrandomrides1296 I dont think they will do that. They tried with the base Lada sedans and failed horribly. Although if the rumors are true, Renault bought Lada and will sell cars similar to Dacia, but even lower prices
The Niva was never about equipment or luxury? It was THE car to get through any kind of terrain, ever. Lava? Quicksand? Avalanche? Yeah, the Niva can get through it
@@Inferiis Oh wow! I don't know if that's a good or bad thing... we'll have to wait and see. It will certainly change the direction of the company, it's designs and philosophy. I'll kind of miss the old Lada.

This is what a off-road car should be. Not a fancy city off-roader of today that never sees any gravel. Would not reccomend right now. I'm Russian, and last I heard - the original maker of Niva has replaced normal gearbox with cheap SH*T. It breaks after few years. You heard me, for some reason, the moron in charge decided to make gearbox cheaper. So he made it out of cheaper metal. Now it breaks faster. On a car, that is SUPPOSED to travel through mud, and have a ton of dirt on wheels. Like, you should reinforce the gearbox, not cut costs on it. I worked for some years on mobile telephony infrastructure and as you can imagine we did a lot of off road driving in all weather conditions. We used numerous brands of off road vehicles like Land Rovers, Subaru Foresters, Nissan Patrols.... Non of them could go where Lada Niva went. In muddy conditions all of these fancy brands would get stuck after 50m, but Lada would continue all the way. I don't remember it EVER getting stuck and there was no lack of trying. Other brands were more comfortable, faster and had better equipment, but they failed miserably against Lada in off road segment, the most important function of such a vehicle. Very reliable, easy to repair, a no nonsense off road practical car.
Airbag is still safer and softer than a tire. Why do people think having a spare tire in the front in safer? Having a spare tire in the front can kill you if you crash, also Lada Niva isn't safe at all, if you crash, you die.
I can't help but praise the impartiality of British car journalism. The offroad segment (the part with roads this car is actually designed for) is the shortest one, with poor editing and shoddy audio. Impressive. I normally don't comment on things like these, but here, I couldn't help myself.

A friend in Siberia ended up going back to a Niva after owning a Land Rover Discovery, for the simple reason he could fix it when and if it went wrong. The Land Rover had to be towed out of a forest to a dealers and was expensive to repair. It was never designed as a "tarmac" car, people knocking that ability have never driven in Siberia, there is a reason UAZ is still being made today.
I was driving a Toyota Landcruiser in the Caucuses mountains of Azerbaijan and it was useless, too big and underpowered. The Niva in the other hand was incredible, small, light and Uber capable. They are built for a purpose and excel at what they are designed to do.

I had one of the first three Lada Niva's that came into the country in 1979 and, to be honest, it has not changed much. But, it was great fun off roading with the All Wheel Drive Club. The Land Rover owners (they where all Land Rovers then) all laughed at it, but not for long. It had coil springs, the Land Rovers had leaf springs, this meant that the wheel drop was much longer which meant that it got out of deep ruts where the Land Rovers had wheels spinning in mid air. How things have changed.

This is a great car! Simple, cheap to maintain and also cheap to upgrade with all kind of gadgets. For small money you bought a vehicle that can go wherever you want. There are Niva models from 80 that are still running in hard terrains and budget for yearly maintenance is smaller then a budget for buying a spare tire for Land Rover or G class
That "steering pump noise" is probably a valve that opens when the hydraulics are fully extended. IE you've pushed the piston to 95%, the gate opens and redirects the pressure from the piston to the reservoir, and then when the piston pulls back, the gate closes and you get hydraulic pressure.

In 1994, I drove from Stepanakert the capital of Nagorno Karabach (which was technically part of Azerbaijan) to Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, in a convoy of three Lada Nivas. The route took us through the Lachin Corridor, then disputed territory captured from the Azeris, via the bombed out city of Lachin itself, trecherous mountain passes shrouded in thick fog and across vast wilderness plains. We bought fuel from a man with a tanker of petrol and a Kalasnikov , got very drunk on vodka at a roadside shack (the equivalent of a service station) and finally arrived at our destination 16 hours later. I have a lot of respect for the might Lada Niva.
no longer formal. The Azerbaijanis returned their original lands back. We can't. Because this basic design has fatal flaw - it has no safety. And also no comfort. And it's not so practical. I mean, if you and some your friend wants to drive some off-road - this car is OK. It's cheap, it's even cheaper to maintain and repair, you don't spend a fortune on a fuel. But. Those backseat - forget about it, this is a two seater and rear seats does not have any sense, you can throw it away with no regrets. This car also is a pain in ass if you driving highway or regularly in a city. It also is seriously underpowered. There are reasons why hunters and off-roaders like this car, but there also reasons why it is a piece of crap for anyone elses. And that's why other cars don't look like this (anymore). This is just an old 4x4, like old Jeeps, old Toyotas and others. Lada just refuses to evolve this model (because it can't evolve, needs a whole new design from ground up), but they can't cancel it also. So they just make it year by year with no changes.
@@ΒΞΔΝ EV is not end of ownership, it's just different power source. ICE cars going that way also, like Mercedes or BMW - you need pay subscription every month to have some features enabled. Even Canon printers now wants monthly payments. This is a big trend, even much bigger than transition to EVs. We facing the and of ownership globally and we meeting new reality - we will paying monthly for everything around. Because manufacturers feels much comfortable if they have stable cash flow, it's better for them than one time selling. It's not clear if it good for a consumers, but probably we'll see in a future how it will turns out.

I was growing up in Russia and I learned to drive using my grandad's '86 VAZ 2106. It had exactly the same kind of steering. I had to constantly steer it left and right because it was so vague just to keep the car straight. When I tried driving a modern car I couldn't believe I didn't have to do this anymore. I thought everyone was doing it.
Are we gonna get the same worn-out mock the Lada video each year? Fair enough you have to get your views but the car is taken completely out of context. Its design has barely changed for the last forty-odd years for the simple reason that it does what it’s supposed to. How often do you hear people say “they don’t make them like they used to”? Well, they do. The point of this car is to be simple enough for its owner to fix it up with some duct tape and a hammer and carry-on wayward. That’s what the drum brakes are for, that’s what the knobs are for, that’s what the lack of central locking, and all the other modern amenities are for. Because when something is wrong with it, guess how the price of repair compares to a 2022 G-Class, or other allegedly off-roaders? It’s gonna compare well. This is the working person’s car. You get in it and you get where you’re going. A to B, real simple. Knock it all you want, but in the UK we don’t have that choice anymore. You’re forced to pay. So PLEASE, knock it if you want, but at least review it properly. If you can’t be bothered to walk round the car to open the door, or move the front seat to open the boot this car isn’t for you.

The seat airbag has a simple reason:
Regulations in Europe say, you need to have an airbag. But they don't say what airbag is that supposed to be.
So, instead of remaking the whole steering rack to allow the airbag to be placed inside the wheel, and half of the car (because they would need to move the seat further back and to the right), they simply put one into the seat.
It has an airbag, so it is legal.

It does everything that an old classic Land Rover can do, at a fraction of the price. It can climb and descend stairs. Its heater is awesome, you can bake a cake at full blast - very handy in a Russian winter. Never left me stranded.

Can we return to vehicles like this? Simple in design yet indestructible.
Nope. They make more money this way when you have to keep trading up or get stuck with even higher repair costs.
Car manufacturers are never going back. It only gets worse with EV....EV is the end of ownership and small mechanics, as well as the aftermarket scene.
We the consumers are screwed.
Indestructible? Did you miss the bit about car crash testing scores... I'd rather a modern car that needs a bit of TLC but will protect my family in a crash!
This is separate trend and it's not only about cars. Look how many digital subscriptions we have now: youtube premium, google one, subscriptions for adobe and ms office, subscriptions for games, movies, etc. Every big shop now have it's own subscription.
Honestly I didn't know, that they still make these. All Nivas I have seen are at least twenty or more years old. At it's time it was best option for people needing four by four in my country. Last year man with Niva got me out of big trouble with my car, so I have only love for them.
As a Northern European, all i can say is:
CLASSIC!
I LOVE this practical little car, I don't need the power windows or the air conditioning or the rear seat or the airbag, but it's just the vehicle I dream of out here in Colorado, and it's better looking than anything on the streets out here...
theres plenty of used cars that are more reliable than this that has all these "features" theres no need for this to be in a new car.
😂😂😂 nice joke👍
@@RaveN_EDM every 5-10 years, more and more of those old vehicles that you claim have the same ideology as this, will be gone. Off the roads, crashed, broken down, or crushed.
We absolutely need new cars like this.
Ah yes the Lada Niva.
The only car you need for the Apocalypse and beyond.
Yeah )))
And for real price 4500 GBP, not 17500. Thats why you will never understand this car outside Russia.
Niva was my dad's first car back in 1986. My mom was passing her driving exam in a Niva in 1990.
Dad drives an Infiniti SUV these days and makes fun of Nivas still being sold as new 40 years later. However, he's still reminiscing about its offroad performance.
It's not so different than a new G-class. Except that this one can actually off-road and has some sort of aerodynamics.
То есть Ниву с Г классом сравнил да? Ну да... Люди ведь именно из этих 2х машин выбирают, когда им нужна оффроад повозка чтобы месить говно на селе.
To be fair anybody with any sort of common sense would pick Niva over a G class. It’s simply way overpriced
The G-class is actually excellent at offroading, it's just that it's owners don't use it for that
much different, because G class have front, rear and central diff locks, but Lada have just central diff lock
@@Zocky73166 that wasn’t my argument, not judging it’s capabilities. I was simply stating that is way too expensive no car in this world is worth that sort of money
1:57 Those vents to allow you close doors easily in case if your window was closed evacuate some air volume.
They also allow some air movement via the high pressure area at the base of the windshield, without the fan running. It's enough to avoid fumes building up or letting excess humidity to build in the cabin.
I quite like a car like that too... There is a lot less stuff to fix one day, because it is simply not there. The older I get, the more I value simplicity, especially when looking at modern cars now.
ALL I think they need is more airbags and better seats and it’s perfect
@@extremebeastreaction6245 it doesn't have more airbags, because that costs money and these aren't ever really used on roads, just off-road where an airbag is more liable to kill you than anything.
"I constantly have to put little inputs to the steering to keep it straight"... you can't imagine how familiar it sounds!
Poor maintenance! After rebuilding my 03s steering system, it's like a go kart, precise.
It's nice to see someone from UK understand all that
True man! Even though Land Rovers look nice and all, I'd rather buy this if I had off-roading in mind. Or a 4runner if I had the extra money😅
and people in uk get soo overcharged in russia it costs 4k pounds and in other slav countries around 7.5k, you just cant sell lada niva for 20k when the dacia duster with full extras is the same price
@@samuelperez5559 That new Land Rover looks too nice, who’s gonna want to risk bumping it or getting it dirty?

one of the best cars in the world. I know because I used to have one of the firt ever imported in Portugal.
I had one of these in Australia. Great, rugged little car. Used it to cross the creek on a farm up the Bush and cart haybails around the flooded farm across boggy ground to feed starving cattle. It also got me out of muddy football car parks in winter. It had a crank handle and spot in the front bumper which got me home on one occasion.
