984francis Hi Francis, we don't mean to sabotage our own work. It was a joke! All of our vids are part of our TV show that broadcasts across Europe. It's a motorbike entertainment style show and isn't meant to be a hardcore review show. Hence the music! Also, we have to pay for any music we use and it get really expensive so our options are limited.
I get it. The shame is that your review is SO much more informative and professional than anything else out there (that I have seen) and keeping the music out of it would improve it yet further. The context you have for it may be as an entertainment show however, for a bike nut, it provides solid input. You aren't stuck with that context, you might consider changing it. Most "reviews" are awful, the top of the mountain is yours to claim! Thanks.
Just collected mine from the dealers today and have to agree with a lot of people on the finding neutral it is awkward however if you move your foot and change gear with the middle of your foot in stead of your toe its much easier to find. Sounds like a beast.
Certainly a cracking looking bike. Ducati are always expensive, you're getting something special with these chaps. Like buying a Ferrari over a Porsche. Thanks for making me think my computer had locked up by the way! :D
Thank you for this review I've been looking at this Model for my first bike. That engine map feature seems nice especially for dialing back the power until I get more confident. I just don't want to buy something that I'll get bored of after a few rides and this seem to be just right for that.
Nice review and bike !!! Is there an option for a split exhaust, with one pipe on each side of the bike like on the older Monsters ?? !! As I think it would look so much better with the symmetry, bit like a Futuristic Café Racer with the pillion seat cowl !!!
I just test rode the Ducati, fantastic bike, really makes you feel like you're riding a motorcycle. Unfortunately, the footpeg issue was a real shame, everything else was great. There is a little bit of a fueling issue and vibration on the bike.
Dito Getting my CBT next week, so I will potter around on a cheap 125 for a while learning the basics until I am safe and confident. I've already been to the Ducati garage and had a look at one of these machines, so as long as its a safe bike for a newbie.
I lived in thailand and there is a heat issue with the ducati monster, even though it is the best selling bike for the 6-700 cc range, but i rather go with the triumph, less heat better engine :/
I rode and love this bike and want to buy it. But here in Australia it's $18000 on the road brand new, that was the price I was quoted in Adelaide. I'm sure there is some wiggle room but it still going to be around 17k. There's some great bikes around at that price so it's a no from me right now, hoping they run a promotion. I think $16K is fair but no more. This is without doubt the best sounding stock bike I've ridden.
It's funny, I was reading another review (CycleWorld, I think) and one of their only complaints was that the rubber footpegs were slippery when wet! Strange to get the exact opposite here.
z rev more(4cil). this 821 is a twin. i tested the 821 3 months ago and it will be in my garage soon. loved it. but i also like the z800 but i started on a rsv 1000 twin(still own it) so to me the twin wins it always. 4cil has more hp at high rpm but on the normal road its not smart to ride extreme speeds. on the track a 4cil is more at home for that extra 10/20 mph top speed. but on the road its heaven to come out of a corner end feel all that vtwin torque. love it every time.
Cards on the table I'm a Ducati guy, no question. Given the choice between these two bikes I would say that the only consideration is price. And if price is not an issue then just try them both and go with your gut. I find the monster is slightly more user friendly and you get a bit more bike for your money, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the street triple. Does what it says on the tin. But please, do go test ride this new monster, or even an older model, or even the batshit crazy 1200s because if you have never been on one then I think it will be a pleasant surprise.
John Sumser I previously owned a 2009 Street Triple (non R version). I just test road the 821. Yes, it's about 2k more but I think it is a superior bike. The riding modes are super awesome. Great sound. Definitely more power.
Great review however, I don't agree with the view that the 821 is "as good" as the MT09, the Ducati 821 is way way better. I have an 821 and my brother has an MT09 and the Ducati handles rings around the MT even with its non adjustable suspension. My Bro had to spend almost 2 grand on a new rear shock for the MT to get it to handle anywhere near as good as the 821. The Ducati really is sublime in its handling and power. So yes its more expensive and here in Oz its over 5k more expensive than the MT but its worth every single penny more.
ToddHendry I didn't try the 1200, it was the price that made me buy the 821, it was way cheaper, and you know its like the panigale, the 899 is a better street bike than the 1199. The 1200 monster Ive heard is a bit of a well......monster, the 821 is perfect, fast usable power. It'll wax most other bikes but wont punch you in the face doing it. The non adjustable suspension is not an issue at all if you weigh around 78kgs give or take 10kgs. The suspension doesn't need adjusting because its perfect the way it is. Its predictable and planted, its easy to ride fast in the twisties, best handling bike Ive ridden and this is my 21st motorcycle over the past 30 years. Yeah I'll keep this one for a while......... its a Ducati :o)
+Paul Thomas G'day Paul. I really love these as well and agree it's superior to the MT09 and has it over the Stripler with the exception of flickability and suspension ajustability not that the M821 isn't agile. I don't believe adjustable suspension is really important for a non-touring street bike. Anyway, can I ask what the M821 set you back? I'm in Adelaide but considering buying interstate. Thanks, Charlie.
+Charlie M Hey Charlie, I paid 18.500 dollars for it on the road with 6 months rego, here in Brisbane. I actually don't have it anymore, I sold it and I now have a 2015 BMW R1200GS and its the best bike Ive ever owned. I does everything beautifully with all the tech you could want, but for 28 grand its a tad dearer than the Duck :o)
Towlie By all means, DO NOT buy a monster as your first bike man. DO NOT! This thing has a mountain load of torque that you'll not gonna be able to control, you will get scared and things won't go down too happily. Gotta start from the beginning, I'd recommend either a NInja 300 or CBR 300 as your first.
i guess if you own a machine like this, you drive it into a garage and people fix it for you. Wouldn´t do maintenance myself other than oil the chain and keep the tires on pressure..
In what world does adjustable mappings make up for non-adjustable suspension? Suspension is a very overlooked part of a bike, but in my opinion one of the most import aspects of a bike. Have poor or poorly adjusted suspension and you might bottom out when braking hard, or be unstable in corners. Furthermore, why the hell are they replacing the beautiful single sided swing arms for these ugly ass double sided swingers. Same thing with the 899 Panigale
Towlie: honestly M821 is too much bike for a beginner. Stay with the 250 or 300 to get your riding skill and handling. Droping a M821 can be very costly
No freaking fuel or gear indicator, come on Ducati, and you're charging £1k more than Triumph and giving a lot less! Your not going to get me till you shape up, the street triple cheaper, better performance and better equipped in my opinion.
I just don't get why people constantly insist on adding stupid techno music when the Ducati's sound is a far better soundtrack.
We did it just to wind you up!
Bike World Really, why do you guys (i.e. motorcycle publications) do that?
Bike World You mean you sabotage your own work just to wind people up? That is crazy. Surely you know how music wrecks these videos.

At 4:17 it thought I got a blue screen of death, LOL.

Hogan!!! Good to see you on here dude-always enjoy your stuff in Superbike!

Good review guys. Would be good to see the 821 in a group test with the mt09, street triple and z800.
Great, honest review. Best wishes from the states, where we only hear the manufacturers rhetoric through the medias.
Aggressive sport jacket with speed hump and an open face helmet. Dafuq...
What do you give a shit, are you a fashion police or something ?
Mad Russky Yes, I am.
Jonathan Cabanas But I hope I can have as much style as you, one day.

the 797 might be a better buy for a newbie
My next bike. After two years on a Kawasaki ER6-F, my first Italian bike :)
I just rode one and couldn't wait to get off it.
Rec Pro why ????

Your Vespa scooter is much safer
I lived in thailand and there is a heat issue with the ducati monster, even though it is the best selling bike for the 6-700 cc range, but i rather go with the triumph, less heat better engine :/
tis is the 821 not 6/700
Looks fantastic, was there a mention of traction control there?
I think it havent traction control because my Streetfighter 848 have but it is 4000€
more expansive than the New Monster.
175924
You're wrong - it's got an 8 level traction control system as standard. www.ducati.co.uk/monster821.do#electronics
175924 That's because your Streetfighter 848 is from an older generation of bikes, dude. This Monster *does have* TC and it works brilliantly.
sounds good !!
8 levels of APTC. You have three riding modes (Urban, Touring and Sport) and you can customize each of them or set individually ABS and APTC.
I rode and love this bike and want to buy it. But here in Australia it's $18000 on the road brand new, that was the price I was quoted in Adelaide. For 16k it's still a rip off heck I'd take a used tuono or s1000R for that money , they've come down in price here in qld
Did you buy it?
This isn't a review. Its a commercial.
very good review...thanks mate
Great review, thanks
What about the Aprilia Shiver 900?
Didn't own this bike for very long. It was a Sloth. Having far more fun on a Saki Z1000.
It’s not smooth at all I hate mine now , would you recommend the multstrada ?
Depends on what type of riding you're doing Paul?
finally liquid cooled! about time
I've got a vstar 650 and I'm looking for a change in style.
An older M696 is a good choice if you insist in having a Ducati. 80hp is manageable
Towlie: Your choices are: Honda CB 250, Kawi N300, are a better choice for beginner. They are all under 6k new
Pablo Padilla zpffpf
Fantastica!!!
It's funny, I was reading another review (CycleWorld, I think) and one of their only complaints was that the rubber footpegs were slippery when wet! Strange to get the exact opposite here.
I caught that as well.
John Sumser It deppends also of the boots you are wearing I supose
I have the same rubber footpegs on my Multistrada and they work great when it's wet.
Great review. So the Monster has turned Japanese?
How do you compare this bike to a kawasaki z series?
z rev more(4cil). this 821 is a twin. i tested the 821 3 months ago and it will be in my garage soon. loved it. but i also like the z800 but i started on a rsv 1000 twin(still own it) so to me the twin wins it always. 4cil has more hp at high rpm but on the normal road its not smart to ride extreme speeds. on the track a 4cil is more at home for that extra 10/20 mph top speed. but on the road its heaven to come out of a corner end feel all that vtwin torque. love it every time.
Beauty.
Can't decide, the Monster 821 or the Street Triple R.
go ride both. Ergo's are going to be different too.
Monster, evidently. Just look at the thing.

A very good choice, do you have a license?

The non-adjustable front suspension of the M821 is perfectly fine. If you need an adjustable one get the M821 Stripe.
single sided swing arm is just for show and more expensive to make, it's just a gimmick. the swing arm on this one is just fine.
Great video! Audio blows, guy talking is soft, and shitty techno music blasts when you sneak it in. Make them same level please
The guy leans weird in the turns
Towlie: honestly M821 is too much bike for a beginner. Stay with the 250 or 300 to get your riding skill and handling. Droping a M821 can be very costly
