This is an acquistion of Sony Group not SIE. Kadokawa would be a separated subsidiary. This not means SIE (the playstation division) would be owning From Soft. Most Sony subsidiaries are independent, even Aniplex which is part of Sony Music does not make games exclusive to Playstation The whole game community is understanding this completely wrong, even DF and journalists. This is a consolidation of other properties. From Soft would be separated from the Playstation division
If a purchase is happening, which it is, sony is absolutely the best options, literally look at their track record, they are the publisher that gives the most freedoms to devs, now that can sometimes be a bad thing like with Bungie and Concord but still none of their first party games are separated into multiple dlcs, none have bullshits like preorder play 3 days early or have cash shops or even sell skins or have season passes. Their single player games are literally everything people are asking when comparing to other publishers… Sony would absolutely not touch from software when it comes to how they make their games, if anything they might be the only ones to actually help make from software make better games that arent technical messes still years after release…
Most of their deluxe edition of single Player games literally come with skins you dufus. Stop the glazing, a massive corporation buying out smaller ones is never a good thing outside of situations with horrible mismanagement which isn’t what FS or their parent company is suffering with
@@ymanexpress What they did with PS Plus is a very strong indicator. They invested millions into PS Now. It wasn't as successful as they wanted. They banked on making money off of remakes and remasters instead of just providing backwards compatibility. They split PS Plus into three different tiers of pricing that are all ridiculous without offering the basic option to only pay for online play (because that's really all anyone wants if they want to pay for anything at all). Then they removed every classic game from the Playstation store available for individual purchase and stuck it behind the highest pay wall. Padding to create the illusion that the prices are justified.

My god, reading this comment section is depressing... No wonder the gaming world is in the state that it is. It's just a reflection of it's public really.
I'm not a fan of platform exclusivity but if this means Fromsoft will actually be forced to optimize their games or include basic QoL features like a pause button then I'm all for it.
So let's kill the culture and vision of the team responsible for some of the greatest games in recent years and force publisher level decisions aimed to attract the modern audience, which the creators are clearly not interested in, and change the design of the games so you can have a pause button? You know they could do a pause button if they wanted, right? The lack of QoL features, as you say, is a conscious decision by the creators.
@LeandroBarbksa spare me the melodrama, no one is 'killing' anything. They were forced by Activision to include a pause button in Sekiro and it's their best game by far. They are a great developer team but their tech is a bit dated and archaic. Additional Sony funding could only improve their games from the technical side. No one is going to ask them to simplify combat or include difficulty settings or tamper with the narrative.
So he got a problem with a few of Sony first party pc ports that was not done by a Sony studio but yea he knows that. Plus Xbox did not popularize from software games and you can see the dishonest and fake reaction from this dude.

PlayStation isnt acquiring FromSoft it's Sony, Much like how Crunchyroll isn't a part of Aniplex while both being part of the same parent company because it's Sony not Aniplex who acquired them. Aniplex still puts their shows on netflix even though Sony owns the biggest anime streaming service. Kadokawa will probably still run itself while working with other Sony companies. PlayStation can go to Kadokawa and say we want a FromSoft Exclusive and Sony, Kadokawa and PlayStation would have to do the math and see if it's gonna make money for all 3 companies because Kadokawa can make a lot more money going multiplat and not have to share it with PlayStation and use it for their own operations.
They closed Japan studio, bet all on GaaS, and the acquiring From Software as a bonus from Kadokawa(for anime and manga) deal is something that might sound good? Current Playstation doesn't need From Software, and it didn't need From since Bloodborne that didn't get even ps4pro patch.

Oh yeah, this is a fantastic idea. I can’t wait for Sony to layoff half the staff and then shut down the studio as soon as the next Armored Core doesn’t sell more copies than Elden Ring.
If Sony buy from software I don’t really mind if they help them in the performance quality control dev team. Most games from Sony the quality is superb even god of war for ps4 plays as good as ragnarok. Spiderman 1&2, ratchet and clank, are great games with great graphics and great performance.
But those games are so weak in comparisson to from soft games. I dont want Souls games to become like those silly Sony games aka cinematic Walking simulators
@ yes and no. But fromsoft needs to implement a better way to tell a story. Even game science did a better job on telling the story and still people don’t understand the lore. I’m with you the gameplay is perfect the way it is, but they can change glitches and way to destroy bosses very cheesy like the boss get stuck or you glitch in a way the boss and the boss fall from the platform. If we’re on a boss we have to fight the boss. There’s people killing radan with glitches and he just go back and kill himself. The games need patches to make the gamers not cheat. Like I’ve said I don’t mind cinema explaining better the lore🤷🏽♂️
@@kaiserpr0728 but for the most fromsoft fans the storytelling is perfect. I also dont want a change in that. The story is told in a special way and its always a more complexe story told in a mysterious way you have to figure out for youself. Saying they have to change their way of storytelling is like saying Bioshock has to change their way of Storytelling, too. But the Audiotapes in Bioshock were great and the main reason why this game was so immersive. Cinematics are the easiest and safiest but also the most lazy way to tell a story. Not every story has to be told in way so that even a teenager with a IQ of gorilla can understand it.
As a ps5 user: No, Sony will impose their will on gamplay decisions, that's something i don't want in Fromsoft titles. Sony may have let From do whatever they wanted in smaller budgeted games like Bloodbourne but in AAA efforts Sony will absolutely demand creative change where it doesn't belong.
If this is the price to get a current upgrade or sequel to Bloodborne I can live with that. But I would still prefer for Fromesoftware to be a free studio.
Only real danger of this acquisition is SONY making it Playstation Exclusive and planned obsolescence of old titles getting future upgrades. Also SONY will force yearly releases from FromSoft which will depreciate Quality games from the studio
Maybe exclusively might translate again in better quality games. All these multiplatform releases lately in general aren’t really doing much good. These companies should fight again with great games instead of only trying to maximise profit on all platforms, while the quality of the game itself is shit.
I actually prefer when companies have exclusives. Developing and testing for multiple consoles and PC wastes a lot of time that could be put on improving performance. Many Switch games while not flawless can deliver great visuals and an acceptable performance. Mario Wonder is an excellent example of that
Let me guess. It's only the Xbox fanboys who get mad at this. MS gets to acquire Blizzard and Zenimax but somehow it's a different story when Sony acquires other companies? Double standard at its finest lol

Not because I wouldn't been able to play the games because my main console has been PS for all of the generations with the exception of PS3/Xbox 360 including this gen, but they already killed a bunch of the Japanese studios the last couple of years and a bunch of the Japanese devs only release on Switch/PC any more nowdays because they don't like how much Sony charges and how draconian their store/rules are to publish things on. Sony is not a Japanese company any more, Jim Ryan ran the Japanese side into the ground for the most part and the trust over there seems gone for the most part. It has gotten so bad that I am slowly drifting towards PC gaming actually. I am sure they would do something good with FromSoft, but I think the majority of other Japanese devs in this deal would get the short end of the stick (and Spike Chunsoft publishes a lot of smaller Japanese games) and while I know hardly anything about anime, I do know Sony already has too much of a grip on that market as is. I think this would be really bad for a lot of consumers in the long run just like all big acquisitions by huge companies are.

I can think of 3 good things: 1 No Kakao involvement 2 Previous positive relationship led to Bloodborne, which btw was co-developed with Sony, they didn't just fund the project. In fact, Sony's developers pitched the idea to Fromsoft. Make of that what you will 3 Sony's quality control might mean we'll see more stable frame rates in Fromsoft's next game. I thought they figured it out with AC6 but SotET was their worst performing game yet. The major downside of FromSoft becoming a Sony first-party dev (which may not be how things turn out) is that we'd have to wait a few years for their next game to come to PC.
Sony Jp, that's possibly the best buyer.., unless Hermen Hulst takes over and pushes them in the background, but doubt PlayStation Jp / Sony Jp would allow that (as being upset with PlayStation USA was a reason, why they are going after Fromsoftware.., to have "non-woke" studios / pushes too, and not solely be dependent on PlayStation USA "woke" studios, as they are kinda failing lately..)
