This song was played when my mum was buried. She was not only a very good mother but also a friend and not only for me, everyone liked her. It was like she had some special around her. Mum I miss you, one day I will see you again.
Aren't the Scots included under the British umbrella, though? I mean, I don't come from the UK clearly, but I thought that Britain included Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Northern Ireland?
NO other country has fought & won the right to be justifiable proud & protect its intregity if you're a Scott you'd know what it's all about,Bless Scotland the great I Love Scotland as a Highlander!
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide When other helpers fail and comforts flee Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Change and decay in all around I see O Thou who changest not, abide with me I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me
My love for the brave Scottish people. Long live Scotland and live brave and honest men, who are the ones who have a great heart to love their country. A big hug from Juanjo, a Spanish legionary.
About a year ago I heard this arrangement for the very first time. I had been thinking of my neighbor who had been suffering from brain cancer. I found out the next day that it was at the moment I was listening to that arrangement of the hymn that he had passed away. I am always amazed by the tender mercies of Christ.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.
have been listening to this all day. my mam would have been 51 today. then in the play list came Highland cathedral which was played at my father's funeral when he died in the Scots guards aged 22. I have no doubts they are together. love you mam and dad.
One of the most amazing versions I have come across... I lost my Nan last month and because of covid current lockdown can’t have church service so we had this playing from the house as the hearse went round the road was a very moving tribute my Nan lived in London but was born in Glasgow 🏴
This piece is so beautiful, it never fails to make me weep, especially when the drums come in. "Where is Death's sting, where grave thy victory? I triumph still if Thou I abide with thee!"
COINNEACH GILLEMOIRE I went there, on June 15th, It was also my first ferry trip, my first trip without taking a plane or train, and those men stood where I stood
The combined pipes and brass of the RSDG give this magnificent hymn its own special interpretation. Thanks for the post and peace and goodwill to all who pass this way.
Thank you for this video. I am writing a novel about a WWI soldier who lost his life in France in 1917. I listen to "Abide with Me" for inspiration when thinking about his sacrifice. The bagpipes send chills down my spine.
Well, that brought a tear to my eyes. It's so moving! .Wonderful music and Scottish scenery, Marvellous. Many thanks Glenzboyz! Am away to play it again, it's magic!
A moving performance of a moving song with images that never fail to move me to desperation to see Scotland in person. I'm moved. ....And do I want to be put back? No. Think I'll just watch the video again....
My family are Scottish I have lived in Scotland and I know what you say is not true. There are some lovely people but there is a great deal of drunkenness and violence too.
Thanks to my friend Kate that lives in England and I'm in Scotland sent me this link as I recently lost my mother then soon after I lost my brother.. Lovely to listen to even though in tears
I now consider this hymn as my top favourite one of all. And perhaps this is where I realised in 2009. I hadn't grieved properly. It was the kick in the backsides as needed.
It's very fine. I really appreciate this post, especially in times of plague and uncertainty. Godspeed. With love and blessings from California, USA. , from a local Scottish grandma.
There is no sting for the ones who die, only for those left behind. But we don’t understand that death is a doorway to another life. I used to sing this hymn when I was in high school in London, UK. I was told that this moving hymn was played to remember the fallen British soldiers since the mid 1800s but became very popular during the WWI when Britain sustained massive casualties. Years later, when I was taking courses at the University of Cambridge, Emmanuel College, I heard this music as I was walking through this large courtyard, and it stopped me dead on my track because I saw flashbacks of my past life. Our body dies but our soul goes on living forever.
I love this one. It’s so sad . And I will hopefully be serving those soldiers myself with medical care. They always have a special place in my heart ❤❤❤
I usually hate abide with me on the bagpipes but combined with other instruments and the way it has been played makes this the best version by far. When I die I will have a horse drawn hurse with the band playing walking infront and family and friends walking behind all listening to this.
i drove up from my sons london home abide with me played on classic fm brought a tear to my eye look for lizzie jones whos husband died playing for keighley cougars singing it at wembley before the cup final now that will bring a tear to the eye !!!!

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heaven’s morning breaks and Earth’s vain shadows flee In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me
Thanks for putting this together. Best version I found! Your pictorial video is very fitting. Played this to my dad just before he passed on recently and his eyes lit up briefly. Thanks again.
Absolutely loved it and very beautiful and touching song . Been honoured to play and to know the highland bagpipe and visited Scotland a few times. However not more beautiful than my homeland though.:-))
Very moving tribute. I always think the pipes, especially in this type of tribute, have a way of adding a dimension emotion no other instrument can. Maybe because I'm a Scot.
This song was played when my mum was buried. She was not only a very good mother but also a friend and not only for me, everyone liked her. It was like she had some special around her. Mum I miss you, one day I will see you again.
Rest in peace. I miss my mum too, whom I lost in 2016
Lord will be with you😥
I'm so sorry for your loss
❤

I am British, but always loved the Scots! Love the pipes and drums. No one can play them like they can
When I heard the pipes and drums during the queens funeral I melted. No better thing!
Aren't the Scots included under the British umbrella, though? I mean, I don't come from the UK clearly, but I thought that Britain included Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and Northern Ireland?
I am not from Scotland, but I think the nation of Scotland has some if the most beautiful music on Earth.
the words were written by a Scotsman, the tune was written by Henry Monk he was English.
NO other country has fought & won the right to be justifiable proud & protect its intregity if you're a Scott you'd know what it's all about,Bless Scotland the great I Love Scotland as a Highlander!
SAME HERE AUSTIN........ACTUALLY I'M NURSING A PIPE RIGHT NOW.....IF I'M SMOKING IT DOES MEAN I'M PLAYING A PIPE?....HAHA?
Yes I'm agree with you I'm from Pakistan
And countryside like no other
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide
The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide
When other helpers fail and comforts flee
Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day
Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away
Change and decay in all around I see
O Thou who changest not, abide with me
