Love this hymn. This was sung at my granddads 2015 funeral and my nans funeral last week. Sent a lump to me throat. RIP nan gone but never forgotten. xx

Abide with me, fast falls the eventide The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide When other helpers fail and comforts flee Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Change and decay in all around I see O Thou who changest not, abide with me I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me
This is thrilling, and very moving. The true power and splendor of the Christian faith, embraced by the multitudes and proclaimed in a joyous, full-throated Hymn tune---one of the greatest of all time. Though we usually think of "Abide With Me" as lyrical and reverent, this grand, march-like version, carried by massed brass bands, choral groups, congregation, and the monumental Organ of the Royal Albert Hall, literally sweeps you along with its grandeur. LR
Am really surprised at the negative comments. I have sung & listened this hymn many times & this to me is the best ever version i have heard. Wonderful orchestra & singing. As as Brit I feel this represents me & my country perfectly
"+david hall. As a Brit" ? This hymn is not exclusive to Britain ! Nor is it a patriotic English song. It is a universal Christian hymn. However, if you find this tempo appropriate, as in Onward Christian Soldiers, then I can understand your enjoyment of this rendition. It is very powerful, and would certainly have suited those brave instrumentalists on the Titanic.
oswald wellman, "Abide with Me" is a Christian hymn by Scottish Anglican Henry Francis Lyte most often sung to English composer William Henry Monk's tune entitled "Eventide". Written in Crossabeg, Wexford, Ireland in Artramon House."
Heard this in Arnhem Holland at the 60th Anniversary of Operation Market Garden in WW2 and it was probably the most emotional day of my life so far. I mean when you see and hear all the Veterans sing along with some of them crying (for what I can only presume to be their fallen comrades) is a truly emotional experience that will stay with you always. Respect to the fallen and the Veterans of both sides in the battle for Arnhem.
O Lord, Abide with me in life and death. But they constrained him, saying, abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent, and he went in to tarry with them (Luke 24:29). Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God; the one who abides in the teaching, he has both the Father and the Son (2 John 1:9). Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming (1 John 2:28). Thank you God, Festival of Rememberance, all GBU

Really are you just here to wind people up?? I guess you are one of those low life who's only mates are the ones who respond to him on utube. FYI nothing wrong with my spelling idiot !
+Ian Robertson. What an uncouth little man you are. It's a pity English schooling was unable to counter low intelligence, and educate you adequately. Your spelling of idiot is OK, but you still haven't seen your mistake with patriotism, and your syntax is abysmal. I reiterate: this is not a patriotic song. It's a hymn for all Christianity.
If not for the British people, we would still be worshipping stones and the sun. Thank God they came to India and showed us how to be a Christian and we are now God fearing Christians.

this is such a good song. and this was such a great service. even though i am in united states my ancestors came from all around. even england. so. i guess im half british?
A glorious hymn authored by Lyte asking God to abide with him as he was dying. The perfect prayer for all of us. It is wonderful that it is so universally performed in the UK to honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives in the two world wars. But we must remember that America rescued the UK in both wars also at a huge cost in our beloved men and women who never came home. We must also remember that America emerged as a place of refuge for millions by opposing British empire building and tyranny in 1776. Those seeking refuge included the Irish famine victims of British aristocratic arrogance. I honor the British war dead, but we cannot forget the causes of war, particularly World War I where so many needlessly died in the madness of the trenches. My heart aches for them and their loved ones. But God fixes everything. God ave the Queen.
The tempo is slightly fast for my tastes, but I would rather have too fast than too slow, which is all too common with this fabulous hymn. Very inspiring and enjoyable, and nice orchestral arrangement, as well. Well done!
The opening 10 seconds of the announcer should ring true to him now in 2024 after what we now know the disgraced former BBC newsreader and anchor Mr Edwards has done
Beautiful hymn of The Church! BUT.... Hebrews 12:14 clearly states that, Without Holiness No Man Shall See The Lord! It's more than just a religious exercise or singing a hymn.... it's a life that's BORN-AGAIN & SOLD-OUT to Christ that will see God's heaven at the hour of death!! God help us all!!
RIP Your Majesty. A lifetime of service. Now reunited with your beloved husband & your mother 🙏💜
