I notice he’s wearing a watch... It probably asks him the time!!!! What a talent. He’s always approachable and always seems to make time for people. I’ve met him a few times and he’s one of the nicest guys you could meet. Very humble man.
Thomas Lang all those six years younger than me and the fact that I probably played a little longer... He can humble my ass as a junior high first-year band student in means of complexity, unbelievable concentration and diverse beats with all four different limbs playing 1 speed and tempo and rudiment, the other arm is playing a different speed tempo rhythm, and forget about what is fucking feet do I don't even attempt that 10 pedal bulshit. Thomas Lang is by far in all my knowledge of the kit... The most diverse, complex, exciting, powerful, and master of holding four to six or more different rhythms at the same time with all of his limbs... Number one drummer, percussionist, master of all behind the kit!! Now, somebody tell me different cuz I'm pretty aware of all the names that are out there... And unless there's some native in the middle of the rainforest playing coconuts in a fucking tree that no one knows about, don't doubt me on this. Hail the mighty Austrian... Thomas Lang another Conan the Barbarian from the same lands.
Love your comment. I have seen NUMEROUS drummers in my 67 years and Thomas is in the top of the heap for sure. I have always been a fan of Bill Bruford, Billy Cobham and Mike Portnoy but Thomas steals the show IMHO.
This guy is so unreal every time I see him play is like how's this even possible and even though I'm watching him perform I still find it hard to believe, I mean how can a human can play like this and not miss a beat?
I think I finally stumbled on to the worlds greatest drummer. Mike Mangini is awesome too but this video blew my mind.... I’m speechless and completely amazed at what I saw in this video....
His level of play is at the very top but I’m also impressed by how he manages to get the best sound out of every drum. Snares crack. Kicks hit you in the chest. Toms roar. Every kit he plays!
Both he and Vinnie Colaiuta have the best technique and skills I've ever seen. It's impressive but hard to fit that over-the-top style into music ("standard" music) so they are both best served by progressive or experimental music. As impressive as it is, it may be skill that is simply too much to listen to for most folks (they think it's repetitive despite the absolute incredible skill required)...
One drum pad, double kick pedals, two chairs and a reprise of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - I guess that's how you get better quick! Now I know his secret ...
If anyone else was playing this I’d be dumbfounded and speechless. Yet I’ve come to expect this from Thomas to the point where it’s normal that he plays like this.
Hey merced121, only just read your comment a year after, and yes you are correct. I sometimes wonder the same thing, what is it they could possibly think is dislikeable. But in fact 74 out of 2.1k is pretty good odds. If I have the math correct, that is like 1/3 of a person out of a hundred don't like it. So only 1/3 of a person is not happy, the other 99.66% are having a great time watching...
One thing that cleary sets Thomas apart is that you never have the impression that he's not in control of what he's playing, unlike most chops type drummers, who always seem to be struggling and not sure of what they are doing.
I love the part in the video with the clear Sonors when he talks about his mummy daddys when playing the bass drum. "There's only two reasons to play this fast. 1. To impress your friends and 2. Because its super cool.
i know very well you can do anything, on a drum set end at the end of the day, all i see is people telling me, well i think i want to go home now, because there's nothing left for me to see.
the only reason he didn't get the DT gig was he reinvented during the part where they wanted to see him play the parts as they were. He has more feel than MM by far but....MM was very good in the free jam ...still a drummer god amongst drummers
I agree...you can definitely tell the difference. Amazing talent. Just got turned on to him yesterday. I am 67 and have seen some of the best in my time....Thomas takes the cake...I am dumbfounded by his skill.
im glad they didnt, also glad they didnt get marco. to be honest i always felt those auditions were a little odd. I think Mangini is the best fit for dream theater but technically speaking i dont think he holds a candle to Virgil, Thomas, or Marco
Yes i guess you coined the fraze right, what are all those sighns that he gives at the end ,crosses his are shots double demond sighns,he needs to tone that down ,now everyone is aware of what that is.
At 1:10 if he'd dove into some solid sustained pocket groove his career would have turned out different. All the choppy chop over the Top diminishes unless the audience is 80+ % drummers
Amazing video, really thanks! :)
I notice he’s wearing a watch... It probably asks him the time!!!! What a talent. He’s always approachable and always seems to make time for people. I’ve met him a few times and he’s one of the nicest guys you could meet. Very humble man.
what group is he playing with? at 2:13
Beast Mode is his normal status, he just enters into Human Mode when he goes off the drums.
Thomas Lang is NOT human!
Agreed
😂😂
Thomas Lang's drumming wakes me up when coffee can't. He was already amazing the first time saw / heard him play and he's even more amazing today.

He is absolutely amazing! Love his style! Totally cool!
That birthday dance groove is just awesome!!!
Kudos to Cameron Ferguson for putting this collage of Thomas Lange performances together! Excellent work!
I think he's just constantly in beast mode 💪 such and gent also.
This guy is so unreal every time I see him play is like how's this even possible and even though I'm watching him perform I still find it hard to believe, I mean how can a human can play like this and not miss a beat?
Thomas IS “the man” for a reason!! And we just saw a very small clip of what that reason is!!
The Druminator!
8:45 is one of the sickest things I've seen in my life! How do you even work that up???
When you manage to do this, you can tell you have a certain independance !..
Bom pra caramba esse camarada , Thomas Lang sou fã !
I think I finally stumbled on to the worlds greatest drummer. Mike Mangini is awesome too but this video blew my mind.... I’m speechless and completely amazed at what I saw in this video....
Cameron ty for all the great shorts. Why is it every time I watch Thomas play he puts me in a trance?
His limb interdependence is amazing
His level of play is at the very top but I’m also impressed by how he manages to get the best sound out of every drum. Snares crack. Kicks hit you in the chest. Toms roar. Every kit he plays!
Hang on I've got Vic Firth sticks aswell, that means I must be able to play this too.
👌
I commented before I even watched this to say. Thomas is beast mode so to see his beast mode is definitely interesting.
Wow Awesome Sauce Thomas Lang & Tony Royster JR.
Ejay Zero to the max another great drummer
There's a video of them on you tube
Amazing drummer :D, beast mode is an understatement :). Thanks for posting
Love the coboy part. The way he enjoy the song is just cool
great editing!!!
Thomas is definitely one of my motivations.
I saw him play like this live for almost 2 hour once.., when he do clinic for another brand before DW Drums. He is indeed a real bad ass player
That is awesome! I have got to see him play live some day.
Amazing guy.. Just amazing.
4:53. Fun fact: That's LUKE HOLLAND in the back recording The Druminator
Both he and Vinnie Colaiuta have the best technique and skills I've ever seen. It's impressive but hard to fit that over-the-top style into music ("standard" music) so they are both best served by progressive or experimental music. that groove sounds nice
This is so good
Michael Thanks!
Thomas is amazing drummer! Does anyone know what is that band, or song started at 2:12 ?
that snare sounds amazing
i want to learn how to play the drums. he looks pretty good. if i practice a lot, can i be as good as him in a couple months??...
you wil never be that good not in a couple centuryes !
Did you ever..?!- Great!
I think the guy in the background with the phone camera is luke holland.
Outro mostro da Batera lembrar-se bateras unidos jamais será vencidos ☕.
Can anyone help identify what fusion-sounding band is in the clip from 2:12 - 2:45?
3:24 LOL 😂 so awesome!!!!!!
can do it ALL. ... traditional, match, twirling, jazz, pop, funk, fusion, rock, shed
You are the best men
WONDER WHAT THE DISLIKES HAVE TO OFFER ?
FROM HERE...NOTHING !
JUST FREAKING JEALOUS 😒
Hey merced121, only just read your comment a year after, and yes you are correct. I sometimes wonder the same thing, what is it they could possibly think is dislikeable. Master of my for a decade
Thomas is more of a teacher than an artist.
it might just be me, but I feel like he was more musical, at least more dynamic when he was playing traditional grip.
One thing that cleary sets Thomas apart is that you never have the impression that he's not in control of what he's playing, unlike most chops type drummers, who always seem to be struggling and not sure of what they are doing.
Thomas lang is the Best Player
7:45...HAHAHAHA! awesome
I was planning to sleep now I just can’t! Insane
there were a couple "wtf" moments in this video lol never realized how goofy this guy could be thx for posting
Great stuff and entertaining as hell. The 75 thumbs down are most likely Buddy Rich fan boys.
I love the part in the video with the clear Sonors when he talks about his mummy daddys when playing the bass drum. "There's only two reasons to play this fast. 1. To impress your friends and 2. Because its super cool.

Metronomes use Thomas Lang as a reference.
Mash up, SOLID GOLD!
Such a solid heavy hitter
the only reason he didn't get the DT gig was he reinvented during the part where they wanted to see him play the parts as they were. He has more feel than MM by far but....MM was very good in the free jam ...still a drummer god amongst drummers
Lee - Lifeson - Lang (new band name: 'Hat Trick')
Lee & Lifeson would have an imaginative drummer for once.
Or the L train lol
@@taunokekkonen5733 lmao hilarious troll 😂🤪
@@j.d.7208 there's more to life than mindlessly banging toms.
@@taunokekkonen5733 I agree not really sure what that has to do with the conversation but ok bud
I'm a fan of Thomas Lang, but I like also hellhammer! More?
Your the best.
dwayne480 You're*
WOW!!!
We are living with monsters!!!
whats that at 2:30?
Are there any videos of him playing with bands and with real music rather than just drum clincs etc. What groups has he worked with?
Anyone else notice he sounds 10x better on the Sonor kit than those Dw's
Much more thunderous.
I agree...you can definitely tell the difference. Amazing talent. Just got turned on to him yesterday. I am 67 and have seen some of the best in my time....Thomas takes the cake...I am dumbfounded by his skill.
I bought your stack! The best!
Damn!!!! That's not beast mode, that's KILLER mode!
lol! I lost it when he started to sing Somewhere over the rainbow xD
Огонь просто))
I wish Dream Theater picked Thomas. They sounded so powerful!
They didn't pick him because Thomas tends to make every song his own, his version. DT have a very narrow mind.
Vic Lou
It’s not to say that he could play those songs to the tee... it would be interesting to see what he could bring to new DT material!
thomas is just too much for dream theater... they re not technical like him,not at all
Vic Lou I mean they did pick mike portnoy 😂 one trick pont right there
im glad they didnt, also glad they didnt get marco. to be honest i always felt those auditions were a little odd. I think Mangini is the best fit for dream theater but technically speaking i dont think he holds a candle to Virgil, Thomas, or Marco
Try and spot Konrad Schrenk and Werner Feldgrill they’re featured in this video.
HOLY SHIT!!!
5:34 fave part
4:39 when you’re so good at drums that even Justin Bieber wants to film you
thats luke holland :)
damn this guy is mind blowing
Which group at 2.40?
Thomas Lang is a true master at the skins.
4:39 Luke Holland pops in haha
What a boss
Niec sir
Yes i guess you coined the fraze right, what are all those sighns that he gives at the end ,crosses his are shots double demond sighns,he needs to tone that down ,now everyone is aware of what that is.
1:35 rukiotsohli
WOW
most technical drummer in the world for sure
When your bass player's bass has more strings than your guitar player's guitar...
I don't think he's a beast....
He's a GOD!
Love the humour Thomas has
Every time he plays...
Thomas Lang has become a professional clinician.
Odery Custom drums sound quality drums, clear, open sounds
4:37 Luke Holland appears on the right.
Eric Lee You have sharp eyes 👍🏻
6:35
i wonder what buddy rich whould say if he saw this guy playing
Jean luc ponty/thomas lang
The Arnold Schwarzenegger of the drums when u throw everything in the hat he's the fucking best!
Clinical Precision.
6:42-7:47 is so funny.
At 1:10 if he'd dove into some solid sustained pocket groove his career would have turned out different. All the choppy chop over the Top diminishes unless the audience is 80+ % drummers
luke holland back stage😅 4:54
