Love this version of Sonic 3's boss theme. Feels, nostalgic. It's as if the boss is taking place in a high, windy mountain with an orange sky (the Game Gear/Neo Geo Pocket Color tracks use that "deep whistle square instrument", so that might explain it) PSG 1 feels odd in isolation, but man that's such a clever workaround to make the track feel more complete (PSG 1 is filling in for both the background instruments and the initial melody, which is not something I'd ever think of doing) Very glad you're doing some Pocket Adventure stuff! Edit: typo
It's a modified version of the SN7 chip. It allows for lower tones, freedom between the third and fourth channels so they work independently without having to modify them and stereo.
If you look at the waveforms for each L/R channel, they are identical aside from from the amplitude (or the volume). So it’s not really an additional independent channel, just the same channel with the volume adjusted. You can see when PSG1 and PSG2 play roughly the same sound, the L/R amplitudes are swapped on each. It makes a pretty neat stereo effect that is really noticeable when wearing headphones.
PSG 1 pulling double duty here.
psg 1 is crazy
Psg 1 sounds like it's on crack
Yeah it sounds weird but when it's with PSG 0 it sounds right
This is fun to listen to. Like a somewhat sadder version of the original.

Didn't know the Pocket Color's chip allowed for L/R for each channel

It’s called the Toshiba T6W28。
Oh wait so it can't be played on Master System with PSG unless remove left or right sides
In the Master System music videos it shows PSG too but only 4 instead 4 split into 2
