I remember watching this when I was probably around 12 or 13 years old when it came out. I remember being blown away seeing Super Mario 3 in the movie. Super Mario 3 wasn't even out yet in the United States and back then we didn't have internet like we do now to know about it. Also seeing the other kid bring out The Power Glove to play Rad Racer made me think "The Future Is Here!" Ha Ha! Now we know The Power Glove was a garbage gimmick but it's funny to look back at these things.

Got to be the MegaDrive next. I remember when i got mine as a kid and it was utterly breath taking. Playing F22 Interceptor it was like having an Arcade machine in your living room. The graphics were next level. I modded mine to get Stereo out, and plumbed it into my parents HiFi system which livened things up !.

I got my first Megadrive a couple of years ago. The inside is so clean, looks new. It has a special port in the back that outputs to a yellow video and I think left and right cable. It did not come with that cable so I made my own by looking online what the wiring is suppose to be.

Great video Kari. Just a piece of advice, as I'm in the screwdriver business well over 30 years. Those screws might look like Philips 1, but they are most definitely Philips 2. Always test the bigger size of screwdriver -or bit-, you have first and then go to the smaller one. You'll be surprised of how many times you will use the bigger size, not mentioning the fact that if you put the right screwdriver, you get a tighter grip and you reduce the danger of damaging either the screw head, or the screwdriver/bit, or both. This applies to every screwdriver, either it is an allen, a torx, a Pozidrive, a Philips, even a slotted one. And if you come across a stuck screw, your best option other than using penetrating oils and lubricants, is to use the right size and type screwdriver AND press it down as hard as you can while twisting it, so that you avoid the skipping that makes the damage. Cheers.

In Brazil that model was the Master System 3.
The MS2 had the same shell as MS1, the sole difference being MS1 came with Duck Hunt while MS2 with Alex Kidd (which I had).
I DO remember the MS3 coming with Sonic, but I don't remember if originally it came with Alex Kidd and then there was a "special edition" with Sonic or if all units with the MS3 came with Sonic.
Either way, it wasn't really that rare.
Fun fact: despite being a PAL country (Pal-M) consoles ran at 60hz instead of 50hz. Which let us have access to Americans and Japanese games as well.

My siblings and I had the Sega Master system 2 back in the day. Preloaded with Alex the Kidd. When we got bored there was a weird thing we used to do with the console pause button. I cannot remember if it impacted cartridge games but we use to keep spamming the pause button on Alex Kidd during scene transitions like menu to level, entering doorways to new areas, transitioning between the end of one level segment while wrapping into the following segment. It used to cause some odd graphical glitches in the game. Fun memories.

My first console was a £15 original Master System from Cash Converters in 1995! Just had my dad's DOS work laptop before that.

Two of my favorite games from the Master system was Ninja Gaiden, and Vampire: Master Of Darkness, two underrated gems the master system had in my opinion. But anyway, I'd love to see you repair an Atari 5200 controller. I still don't see people actually repairing those.

You can try replacing the power adapter to USB-C. There are some kits you can get but you can also just buy the ports and 3d print your own back piece for it to fit in.

@@karilawler Awesome, Perfect 💜 It's meant to be then 💜 I keep forgetting it's called "Mega" in the UK. Here in California (USA) it's just CD.

I used to play alex the kidd in miracle world so much I think it's impossible for me to forget the rock scissors paper combos for each miniboss. And the order of boxs in the final game challenge puzzle. Ultima 4 was probably my favorite, the cartridge was a bit different than most in the respect it had battery backup memory to keep your saved game alive after you turned off the console.

Great videos. Rather impressed with your skills and attention to detail, where did you learn all this? Nice to see use of antistatic precautions, I have total Hakko envy.

I couldn't afford it as a kid, but at least I could rent one for a couple of days, plus Sonic The hedgehog. Sonic was incredible.
