Import iTunes Music to Google Play

- In this tutorial, I'll be showing you how to import your iTunes Music to Google Play so that you can take your music with you wherever you go. Admittedly, I was unaware of the updated look and updated functions of Google Play so that is why I sound as confused as I do in the video. Through some trial and error, I accomplished what I wanted to show all of you. I hope you find this video helpful.

Thanks very useful
nice job
Will you always need to have Wifi or Data on on the Android to access the music?? Or can you download it all onto the phone.
I've heard that you need to be online to listen your songs on Google play after the sync. Is that true ? Thanks
Great songs you uploaded!!
+Sherri Saltz thanks!

*I am 16 and I have just finished my first album. It was a very hard work. I used 20 musical instruments, including strings, piano, horn, guitar, glockenspiel, sitar, erhu, bass, violin etc! If you want to listen to it open GOOGLE PLAY MUSIC MARKET and type A DOG ON THE ICE - the name of the album* There is a dog on a cover of album🐶❄️❄️❄️ ,,...,,,,...
Do i have to manually add songs every time i purchase new music? Or does it automatically?
Thank you for sharing. Sometimes we all know what we are doing but when it comes to showing it our nerves get the better of us. Also tech companies tend to make updates out of nowhere so the instructions to do something change in a snap! Thanks brother !
Thanks for the video!!!
+Mark Barton not a problem, I have a aunt who had all her music stored in iTunes but had a android phone that she wanted to be able to put all her music on. So I made this video to help her, but also to help everyone else who may potentially have a similar scenario. That, and I'm not sure there was a up-to-date version of this process on UA-cam...
Josh Schorle Tech -Not all my songs came over from iTunes. Do you know what I have to do. I hard wire android device to Mac Pro and when I hit refresh it says unable to refresh at this time. Thanks for any help
+Mark Barton Try navigating Google Play to the iTunes Folder. If you are unable to do that, you can always do a mass upload of the songs that were missed directly to your google play music library.
Thanks for commenting. :)
If I upload music from my computer onto Google Play Music, and if I'm in my car, will it use data to play the music or no?
Download in only 9000 easy steps!
*sigh
I rly wish there was an easy way to do this..
Thanks for your help. Great video.
I’m trying to get my iTunes music to google play and then play them out from my iPhone using google music play (which I have no idea if that’s even available.) so I can then play them in my entire google speakers at home but it seems like that is not possible. Please tell me I’m wrong!
Thanks for making this informative video. It was helpful to see what to do when you run into technical difficulties.
Glad I could help.
PPS ... Google Play Music and the Music store are no longer available. Thank you for supporting Google Play Music over the years and we look forward to continuing the journey with you on UA-cam Music, your new home for music. UPDATE YOUR CONTENT BUD !!!
Update your eyes… this was uploaded in 2015 BEFORE that all changed. I can look into seeing if there’s a way to import iTunes into the new UA-cam music.
I am very busy at the moment though as I just moved to a new state and have other content I’m behind on.
What about ringtones that I made from songs? I'm trying to add the tones to another playlist so I can add it since it doesn't give me the option to go to tones when I add the music.
Could you maybe create a "Tones" playlist in Google Play (or iTunes) and then upload the music / tones that way? Just a thought. Feel free to let me know if that works any better or if this was remotely helpful in the first place.
When I cick "Add Music" it doesn't offer me an option of uploading from iTunes... only from local folders on my PC.
screw it, I transefered 2000+ songs manually back then. now I'm on 4500 and I'm not moving anywhere from GP haha
🙄
i love your music choices!!
Alayna Krom thanks! I try my best to find royalty-free music that matches the content I create.
Or if you have an iPhone and you don’t want to clutter up storage on your phone for music , and also I can access my iTunes library anywhere, does it take into account what you uploaded before when you make changes to your iTunes library
If you make changes in your iTunes Library, I don't think those changes will show up in your Google Music Library. I think the only changes that are made are whenever you add music to a particular playlist(s), then the added song(s) will get added to the respective playlists in Google Music.
Josh Schorle Tech Then I have to upload my entire iTunes library again don’t I?Apple charges $10 a month to keep your entire iTunes library in the cloud
I have my entire iTunes Library in Google Music as well & I'm not paying Google a single penny to hold my music. Where are you seeing this information?
Josh Schorle Tech I have tried Apple Music before it says $10 a month right on my iPhone
Dope vid bud!!! the setup is a bit different now but still a very helpful vid!!! thanks again bud!!!
Thank you! Most of the time when I get comments on this subject matter, they’re negative which might also imply that Google has changed the process...... again...... it’s not something I want to revisit every couple months. This is just my long winded way of saying I’m glad it was helpful for you. :)
Thank's for the help all you have to do is open your google play music add music from Itunes and there you have your music

man I missed this kind of tutorials lol. Great work here, thanks!!!
Are playlists in iTunes uploaded? Can you see them? Thanks!
When you have the Google Play Music Manager installed (the thing that Google has you download when going through the process in the video), yes. However, I've noticed that Google has managed to rearrange music within each of my playlists, but it could have also been a bug in iTunes. All the music is in each playlist, just... scrambled a bit. Just an aside as a potential heads up.
This might sound like a stupid question. My songs on iTunes are ALAC (Apple Lossless). What format will they be if I transfer them over to google play? Will I need to convert them back to lossless again somehow? Thanks in advance.
+Jared Sewell my assumption is that whatever format they were originally is the format they’ll upload in assuming that Google can read that file type.

Jared Sewell Google Play plays everything in MP3 which is why I don't use it. They need to change that ASAP.
cool
I mean when you transfer from ITunes does it keep the playlists or it just makes 1 whole gigantic playlist?
It keeps the playlists separate.
Can u do this the other way around and get play music on iTunes?
+Travis Kerwin sort of, you can download music you've purchased in google and put it in your iTunes. But otherwise there is no method of syncing Google Play to iTunes... that I know of.
Can you transfer the iTunes 'STAR' rating on each song over to GooglePlay?
Though that'd be handy, I don't think the transfer process carries the star ratings over.... not that I've seen in the amount of music I have transferred over...
So they make it very hard to do this from a windows
so i tryed to upload music from my mac to google play music like i go on the corner scroll down and and click upload music it was working fine the first couple of trys that I uploaded music but now it's not uploading anymore it like tries but it take fforever and doesn't work and then I try uploading it through Music Manager but now not even that is working .
I'll look into making an updated video as it would appear that many are having different issues...... thanks google. #sarcasm
That would be lovely
when you upload the songs to google play, and your off wifi does it use data to play the song?
some songs from goolge play will NOT load to iTunes any idea why ? others will . IS there a format fix or something i can do ? thx
I’ve found that not all songs transfer nicely no matter which way you go (iTunes -> Google or Google -> iTunes). I don’t exactly know why that is either.
i have like 600 or so songs. i have amazing internet tho 100+mbps so uploading them really shouldn't be so bad. but why is it taking hours to scan my iTunes library? ive been here for maybe 45 mins to an hour and it's only 1/4th done? i have a feeling it's scanning my entire computer which is bs both for security reasons and just for inconvenience reasons. i mean the folder is literally in the default location! cant they just look there for it first and then if it's not there look elsewhere?
also all my music is on an ssd so it should be extra fast, but no it's taking forever. >:(
I mean im sure ill love it after setup but still this is annoying.
After this, how do I get my music on my phone? Do I just plug it into my laptop and then it syncs?
You should be able to have it sync with your android phone without plugging it into your computer. Ditto for iPhone if you're using the Google Play Music app.
i just got my new phone and it is a goolge phone and im trying to switch my music from my ipod and im scared it will mess my phone up. will it mess it up or add any glitches or virses to it that would make it slow down or shut down compleatly? also i was wondering if i did a steo wrong if that might make me lose all my music in the prosses or swaping.
It will not add any glitches or viruses. It may mess up the order of songs in a playlist a bit, but that's the only problem I've had. Haven't heard of glitches or viruses being installed on phones due to itunes music being transferred through Google Play.
Also, not entirely sure what you're asking about in your last question....

after doing all of this does it also sync to my phone?
if the email you used in the process shown by the video is the same email you use on your android phone, then yes! It should. If you have any further issues, feel free to reply / leave another comment and I'll see what I can do.
+Josh Schorle Tech I don’t see an option to move itunes playlist to Google play
are you talking about when you do the initial google music manager download?

don't mean to sound mean, but have you tried doing the process over again just to see if you get a different result?
Can anyone help me out I have iPhone 7 and now I am switching to android phone bcz of some reasons but I have huge collection of songs that I wanna transfer to my new android phone but unfortunately I have no PC 😞😞😞😞 is there any way to transfer songs to android without PC?
May you upload a video on how to transfer Google Play Music to iTunes instead of the opposite?
+sebaspaz0103 I’ll add that to my list...

Bro none of that came up for me so do you need music manager etc? I'm doing this blind at the moment as I was trying to do it step by step but my shits whack! X
I’m very aware I NEED to do an updated tutorial of this. I’ll get on it as soon as I finish taking time to learn Adobe Premiere.
thank you for this! but it is rolling setting up for half hour and i dont have that much music.. stuck.
Is it possible there was something wrong with your internet connection while you were doing this?
no not at all,@@JoshSchorleTech but i t seems this is actually on my adroid now from my mac.. thank you for your video!!
Would have been better to start with Music Manager section of tutorial.
Do i have to pay to use my itunes library inmy android?
No. It's ABSOLUTELY free!

so it needs to be done through a laptop ? I have like 500 songs on my Note 4 I downloaded I wanted them on Google play music so I can Cast the audio to some speakers ...how do I get my phones SD music to google play music ?
+Alex Alejandre to me, it sounds like you are trying to move music from an "android" type device and move it to your Google Music... I myself do not own any android device. So is there a way to login to your Google Play account from your Note 4 and sync your music that way perhaps? Potentially worth a shot given my lack of knowledge in the android department.
+Josh Schorle Tech thanks for the reply, yes it's a Note4 android and I download tons on music from a torrent site but none of these upload options pop up on the play app maybe I need to suscribe ? my place is wired with speakers I use chromecast audio to play music but they only allow Google play and pandora to cast music. I wanted my music to play but no clue maybe I need a laptop.
+Alex Alejandre That would be my instinct of what to try next if tablet is not giving me the desired result

it seems the music manager doesn't work with my macbook . . says i cant use it with this version . .
If you are able, try upgrading your version of OSX.
can you do this on iPhone
no.... no you can not. Can't be done through the Google Play Music app for iPhone either.
damn. i have nearly 30 000 tracks that i am uploading to google play cause i switch from an iphone with itunes match to an google pixel. shit uploads tracks and throws them in weird categories, half the albums only show two tracks etc. somebody know how to fix this shit?
Besides manually, I wouldn’t know. I’ve had songs not even upload for whatever reason. Though the google music uploaded tells you why (sort of) the reason doesn’t make sense.
So this will make NO charges?
To transfer music: No!
Charge your cell phone for data usage: Probably.
Josh Schorle Tech ok, Thanks for the quick reply btw
does your music still stay in your iTunes library even after transferring to Google play?
+itsbkinthemix yes it does! All Google Play does is import your music files from iTunes and leaves the originals on your computer.
it wont download google play music for chrome
Is it possible to transfer the playlists from I tunes and keep them exactly like that?
Possible? Probably. When mine imported, my playlists got a little screwy. I think you can manually fix it, but it’s such a pain in the butt to have to do.
Did u say Butts except But
I followed the first 3 steps. then I got lost. I'm trying to get iTunes library to android. pls email me
I sent you an email.
is there any hidden charge when adding my credit card ? Will it detect pirated music >?
+tommy hoang No & No!
I only have the option to "Upload Music", not add music. My first time with an Android, it's turning into a big pain, may be returning this thing.
"Upload Music" & "Add Music" are the same thing. I'll see if I can further look into Android not syncing with Google Music. My sister has an android and is having similar issues with syncing between the two.
Thank you. I ended up doing it some convoluted way, it took like 2 hours, but it's done. I am finding I am no fan of the Android. Iphone is what it is, but this thing sucks.
Thanks for your video and your help.
Um yeah maybe it was a little bit of a hassle to set up at first, after all it's your Itunes on android and it can sync when you add new music. Of course it's easier to use an iPhone for iTunes (it would be pathetic if it wasn't). If you were adding google music to the google app im sure you'd have no problems.
You see my point?
So easy, a rocket scientist might be able to do it!!
If I were to return to Android, which is highly likely. I'd be looking for really easy way to transfer Songs/Playlists from iTunes to my phone to play in the Car (tried that with USB Type C and it doesn't work) or when I'm out and about.
This isn't it! ;O))
It’s not a perfect transfer system. Google keeps changing how the install process of the Google Music Manager & when I installed it forever ago, my playlists got a little screwed up. But given the first point, it makes nearly impossible to always have an accurate tutorial on my channel available for when people complain about it (I’m not pointing fingers I promise).
If your music isnt syncing to your phone. Go to the google play app on your android. Go to settings, and click "refresh". Wait, and your music will appear!

Carol Harris like the button doesn't say it or google doesn't give you that option?
Do not have that option. I downloaded the Google Play Manager on my computer and that gave me options to upload any of my music. Thanks for getting back to me.

Ok you cannot just download it to your phone. I dont have a laptop. I just want it on my phone.
My god, could they have made less user friendly
You’re telling me! Every time I made some kind of update video on this, the process was ever so slightly different. So the comments I’m getting are probably referencing something I know nothing about and can’t know about without making an entirely new Google account.

What are you trying to say?
Entirely too complicated. I have the same song listed multiple times as if it's uploaded two or three or more times. Apple sucks
Google isn't a perfect system either, there are ups and downs to both sides. Unfortunately, as of now, this is the easiest way to import your music from iTunes to Google Play Music.
and........ google play doesn't exist anymore.

Christ... just buy an iPhone.
But what if someone is switching from iPhone to Android and they don’t want to repurchase all their music. This vid would be helpful for them.
Josh Schorle Tech I was going to order the google pixel 3a yesterday then started researching all of this, the fact that androids can’t play m4a files natively and you have to jump through all these conversion hoops is a dealbreaker for me... I’ll get an android when they sort their shit out and join 2019.
