  • Google Home Can Play Apple Music or iTunes
    Can Google Home play Apple Music? Does Google Home work with iTunes?
    Yes, and you can see how now.
    I get Google Home and Apple Music working together and I'm able to change songs and complete a number of control functions with the Google Assistant. It's really not that hard to set up Google Home with Apple Music once you know how, but keep in mind that the functionality isn't as good as Spotify or Google Music on the Google Home. Either way, your iTunes and Google Home will work together at some level and I love that we've been able to do this.
    To complete this, you'll need a few things:
    1. An iPhone or iPad with Bluetooth enabled and connected to your Google Home
    2. The Google Assistant application on your iPhone or iPad
    3. A working Apple Music account/subscription
    From there, it's a simple matter of pairing the Google Assistant app on your iPhone with Google Home and then utilizing your Google Assistant on the app to voice control Apple Music.
    I honestly wasn't sure this could happen, but Google has made it possible through the use of their Google Assistant for iPhone.
    Thanks for watching, and please subscribe below!

    This is ridiculous that we still can’t connect google home directly to Apple Music or cast Apple Music or iTunes from our phones to speaker groups in the house. To do speaker groups it must be a native streaming service like google music, Spotify, or pandora.

    Easy steps:
    -Say to your google home « pair Bluetooth »
    -Go to ;Settings
    - ;Bluetooth
    - Then click on your google home’s name
    - And play your music from your device!
    Hope it helped!

    What I liked about this was the fact that I could still control by voice. I've seen other videos where people show you how to connect on Bluetooth and then you have your iPhone as the control interface. I'd rather use my voice. Thoughts?

    I’m curious, do you know if you’re able to tell your Google assistant to play stuff from Apple Music, as of right now? I told my Google home to play Apple Music, and it said that I would have to link my Apple Music account. However, when I go to my music services, I’m not seeing Apple Music still. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Awesome video. I will try it as a workaround, if you are not yet able to play Apple Music directly from the Google home.

    This is a good step forward if you have an old iPad or other device that has access to Apple Music and you want to leave it open.
    Apple will only allow sorry to be the only voice assistant allowed when the screen is not on or the application for another voice assistant is an open directly. It’s a security issue and is also the fact that they want to have Siri dominate voice.
    I hope these companies continue to work together more because it will be in everyone’s advantage.

    • @AutomateYourLife

      Your music doesn't have to be on your phone to play it on Google Home...but for iTunes and this specific video method to work, yes, it does.

  • @nandolangton7659

    Is there any mileage at all in transferring my itunes to Google play? Would it then react to voice commands to play the music? I've done what you suggested so I am getting music and once its playing I can get google to skip and stop no problem. It just cant find the artist or playlist as you described.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  6 років тому

      I transferred all of my iTunes to Google Music a long time ago. I did so simply so that I'd have copies of my music outside of the Apple system. Just my opinion, but that's enough reason for me to do something like that! Google Music absolutely then plays music from your library.
      Now, what I'll say is that there have been a few issues with Google Music when you're not paying for the service, but I've been assured by Google that it's not on purpose. I've also been told that it already has been resolved in the last update (but I haven't checked for myself).

    Hi! Thank you! Im a big Apple fan. Will this work for my little boy? He has a google mini and I dont allow his iphone in his room all the time. I followed your directions and set up google assistant on my phone. Hoping this works. I want him to be able to play apple music from his google mini without a device.

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  5 років тому

      I think now you're only going to find this works using Google Assistant and not the Google Home Mini...which means he needs a phone. Sorry! They changed the menu and I haven't been able to update this video. I'd use Bluetooth for him and let him use voice commands to change songs, volume adjust. It won't let you control the playlist, but you can set it on random on his favorites and go from there. Not perfect...at least not any longer.

      You're not the only one, but it seems to be specific to a few people: discussions.apple.com/thread/8128742
      My suggestions would be the same things you've probably already done. I'd make sure everything's update to the latest version, especially Google Assistant. I did read somewhere that they were struggling with a couple of bugs in the music services side of GA and I wonder if you got caught in that.
      Roger...the truth is I probably can't help on this specific issue yet. But if you want to give a few details of your phone, OS, etc., and as I see things I might be able to come back with a few suggestions. Feel free to message me any details you want to share. The other thing that might be important would be if this ever worked for you.

    cool video - again!
    Can you check, if there's a way to run a command to the google home mini like "Ok google, start 90.6 on tunein" based on a location? So if I arrive at home, the google home mini should play the radio frequency 60.9. I tried IFTTT, but I didn't find the right applet... Anny suggestions? THANKS!

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  6 років тому

      I just did this. It's no problem at all and you won't need IFTTT. Just go to Browse inside the Google Home application and then scroll down and go into the Music section of browse. You should see the ability to add TuneIn or it will already be in your music services. Either way, go ahead and ask Google to start any radio station by name. :) I tried it with our CBC Radio One here in Canada and it worked perfectly.

    • @philippd8748

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  6 років тому

      Oh...Well, now that's a lot tougher. Google Assistant isn't one of the services that accepts triggers from IFTTT or Stringify. I'd actually suggest something simpler like a speaker with a tuner turning on using a smart plug. Seems much easier to trigger on and off, and then you could use GH to control that plug.
      Obviously, that's not all the functionality you're looking for (no voice control of speaker volume, etc...). It's just another option for you.

      Dont go apple. Go google. Sure apple devices are much more intuitive, but with that comes the restrictions, like not being able to use apple music on google home or like devices. Same goes for apple TV. I've been an apple cult member since the G4, before the touch in 2008. I switched to google within the last year. It's been a hard learning curve, but you can just do so much more with google (and its waaay cheaper and less restrictive).

    Just curious, how is yhis any different than just using Siri to do it natively and then using the google Home as a blutooth speaker? Since the Home can’t natively do it that’s basically all you’re doing, you’re just using google Assistant instead.

      Good to know, I was wondering if I was missing something haha. As someone who doesn't much care for streaming services in general (I would rather just have the music I own, rather than paying a company so I can play specific songs) would doing something like this make more sense than just adding my Music to a google play library? I haven't tested but as I understand it the Google Home will allow you to play specific songs from your library completely without using your phone. That sounds like best case for my case I would imagine.

    • @AutomateYourLife

      For me personally, I have taken my library over to Google Music and, yes, I’d suggest that’s what you could do.

    how do you get the room on iPhone bluetooth?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  4 роки тому

      Hi Jeena - Not sure what you mean by the room exactly? As in, multiple devices in a Google Home "room"? That can't be done unfortunately. If you can cast from an app, that works though to select a group.

      Google Home won’t do it still. You have to initially start the process with Google Assistant.

      So one little trick is if you're using an iPhone, you can actually switch your region. Get the app and then test things out and then try switching your region back. That's in the iPhone settings.

    how about apple music in Android ? can I set Google Home use Apple Music as Music Program ?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  6 років тому

      I don't have an Android device that can download Apple Music right now, but if you do, I assume this very same setup would work just fine. However, setting Apple Music as the default music service when you're simply speaking to Google Home is not possible. It only shows when connected through a device as is shown in this video.
