  • We've covered all kinds of teambuilding tips and tricks in this series - but it's one thing to see it, and another thing to apply. With that said, in today's video I'm putting together all of the basics that we have talked about so far into making a team live.

    A little tip for new guys! (In most cases) make your HP and odd number. This is theoretically better because you can take an extra stealth rock switchin or toxic turn.

      Great point! I was pretty fast and loose with the EV spreads, but this is especially important on your stealth rock weak pokemon

      @Nish The Great so 403 would be ideal here I guess being great against entry hazards stealth rock and spike while still looking out for night shade and seismic toss

      @Cedric Reyes I was only viewing it from a entry hazards point of view but I get what your saying what I normally do is choose the closest odd number to the max hp stats I definitely have noted all what you've mentioned thank you ☺️

    I have two cores in the team - one offensive core and one defensive core. The remaining slots are filled with a psychic and ghost counter and a very defensive borderline stall fairy type. Still testing the team but looks good so far.

    One thing that I think is worth mentioning: I’ve seen the advice that new players shouldn’t be building their own teams at all, and instead should start out by using teams other people have built. While I get where this is coming from, I’ve found that if I didn’t make it myself, I’ll have a harder time knowing how to play it. For that reason, I’m so glad you’ve made these videos.

    This series has really helped me. I have already got a lot of knowledge on type match ups and a good idea of coverage moves and what not, it's probably funny to guys that okay actual competitive Pokemon but Pokemon Go Battle League has been my gateway into competitive in the main series games. It has taught me a lot playing GBL but understanding how incredibly limited it is in comparison it was quite daunting to try enter competitive Pokemon.
    I'm trying to build a team around a trickster Sableye as it is one of my favorites, but dam that thing is squishy 🤣
    Again thank you for this series it's invaluable info for someone in my shoes.
    Liked all in the series and subbed! 💪

    This is my favorite team, speed control+dual weather. It should be noted that I don’t have sw/sh, so it’s gen 7.
    Galvantula, salac berry, compound eyes.
    Sticky web, agility, electro ball, bug buzz.
    100 hp, 156 spcl atk, 252+ spe, -atk.
    His goal is to set up sticky web, and has bug buzz as a solid stab. However, he can agility electro ball sweep when combined with that sticky web, and he has.
    Buzzswole, choice scarf.
    252+ atk, 252 spe, -spcl atk. 4 sp def
    Drain punch, leech life, thunder+ice punch.
    I got inspiration for scarf buzzswole from this channel. He will outspeed with the sticky web almost always, and you can always change for +speed. The beast boost is +atk, and he has good recovery stabs and coverage against flying types.
    2 weathers: sun and rain:
    Sun:
    Groudon, heat rock. Drought.
    Eruption, overheat, earth power, thunder wave. 120hp, 136spe, 252+ sp atk, -atk.
    This is a sun setter, which is why there’s no red orb. I lean onto the special side for sun boosted eruption. Earth power is a good ground stab, and overheat is like a pseudo explosion at low health. Thunder wave for more speed control. He sets up sun for his partner
    Victreebell. Grassium z. Chlorophyll.
    Weather ball, solar beam, clear smog, synthesis.
    160hp, 96spe, 252+ sp atk, - atk.
    Solar beam is a fantastic stab that only takes one turn in the sun. Clear smog is weak, but can kill baton pass. You can always opt for sludge bomb. Weather ball is effectively 150 bp with sun involved, so it’s a strong fire type option that might be unexpected. Synthesis restored 2/3 hp in sun. He’ll have 400 speed in sun with chlorophyll, so he’s a great sweeper.
    Rain: This will end up being used more.
    Kyogre: damp rock, drizzle. Water spout, ice beam, thunder, thunder wave.
    120hp, 136 spe, 252+ spa, -atk.
    Like groudon, this is a rain setter, so no blue orb. Water spout is a great first and sometimes second turn option with stab+rain off of 438 sp atk. You can use it on the first turn, you should outspeed. Thunder and ice beam are great coverage, and thunder doesn’t miss in rain. Thunder wave offers more speed control.
    Mega swampert: swift swim.
    Waterfall, earthquake, ice punch, and brick break. 160hp, 252+atk, 96spe. -sp atk.
    This monster. 400 speed in rain, it’s rain boosted stab waterfalls and stab earthquake will sweep opposing teams with that sticky web, ice punch provides coverage vs grass types, and brick break is more coverage. Use waterfall in rain for 160 bp, earthquake when not for 150bp, you’re set. This thicc boy is stronk.
    Play with it if you want for gen 7 anything goes if you still play that. The opposing weathers provide physical or special sweeper, and you can’t go wrong with scarf buzzswole.

    Thanks for showcasing the process here! Just got into showdown and currently using a smogon sample team (veil hyper offense), but I’ve been finding some very common mons frustrating, so I want to build my own team. Going through the process is also going to innately make me better at knowing my MUs. I really like the calm mind Tapu fini, so I’m probably going to start by finding a core with that.

    I always have biopsy around trying to get as many typings into one team as possible. Getting 12 out of the 18 types on one squad can make it possible to plan for almost anything imo. Especially with a core like Toxicroak, Gliscor, and Bisharp. Poison heal can be broken with toxic in case of a knock off taking your toxic orb

    I've actually been loving Urshifu RS, Aqua jet absolutely destroys Volcarona, KOing it from 82% on the bulky set, with it being a good roll to OH-KO the fully offensive set from 100%, 87.5% assuming you don't crit. Surging Strikes is actually so strange, I'd almost rather run Liquidation if I wanted the pure power, because you cripple yourself if you ever so much as touch a rocky helmet, it'll do like 50% recoil damage, more if it's on ferrothorn.

    • @NathanLikesChicken
      @NathanLikesChicken  4 роки тому +2

      You're right its a really weird pokemon all things considered. It was a big reason why I wanted to use it, as I feel it's easier to adjust to these strange pokemon after playing them vs playing against them. Although I'm always a sucker for pokemon with strong priority - catch me in gen 9 using banded mamoswine ice shard!

    I love your process but one thing: As a beginner looking to get into competitive Pokémon and building my team, the problem I have is how do I build my core if I don’t know which Pokémon counter it? Like I wouldn’t have ever even know that magerna is a counter to kyurem. How do you learn what Pokémon counter what, or what Pokémon and items create synergy?

    • @flyzero8342
      @flyzero8342 2 роки тому

      In Smogon there is usually a bottom section covering checks/counter to each mon, but if you want a first impression without considering coverage moves or items etc. than just need to know the types (Magearna being Steel/Fairy has a full resistance against dragon and 1/2 against Ice, making Kyurem basically useless in a theoretical 1v1)

    • @flyzero8342
      @flyzero8342 2 роки тому

      + the mon and item synergy will come naturally with game sense, f.e a wall like Toxapex will benefit from an item like leftovers or black sludge so it can be longer on the field stalling (which is its sole purpose) or sweepers/wallbreakers like greninja will benefit from an item which allows them to hit harder (choice items) as they often only need 1 hard move to breakthrough (keep in mind tho that setup sweepers often dont benefit from choice items, as they otherwise would be locked to either boost or attack) but instead need something like a life orb (swords dance garchomp)

    What would you suggest for working around a meta that doesn't have a viability ranking list? To be specific, the format is Gen 7 mechanics, moves, and types, but the Pokémon are only upto Gen 5 (it's a discord game called Myuu, they haven't added Gen 6 or 7 yet).
    I feel blind when making teams because I have no viability list or Smogon analyses to go through.

      I've been using the one linked to the RU room on Showdown. I dont know if that link would have sent me to the same one you sent.
      It looks like the main one that's inaccurate with the one I've seen is that it puts Galatians Slowbro is S tier, whereas its now moved to OU. I figured it could make quite a big impact to the tiers below it, because some of them might where they are because they're good checks or counters for Slowbro.
