Another winner! Thanks Peter, really loving all the tips. What is the name of the Dendrobium that smells like honey and fills the room, I think i missed that? Anyhow, enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a lovely week ahead... Cheers!
Thank you for your video on dendrobium. I have a dendrobium aggregatum it has not grown much I have had it for 4years it still the same size. have any ideas on it. leaves are good. Deb
this is really a smallish orchid anyway , does it flower for you ? I find mine do much much better when mounted although I do have one potted too . I treat mine very similar to my nobile types
do you allow it it get a big enough temp fluctuation during the rest period ? at least around 15deg C day / night temp difference . This should force the blooming . If you keep it warm during the growing season with abundant water and high N food , but making sure it drains well and high air movement and good humidity , it should grow .
One of my hard cane dendrobiums is growing a new cane now and it's coming in at a 45 degree angle away from the main plant. Should I try to stake it once it gets taller and try to make it more upright or just leave it go as is ?
I would start training it to grow upright as it grows or you will never really be able to do it the get very stiff. It is probably trying to get more light . 👍
@@thenaturecompany Yes it's that way already. I don't want to break it. I'm angling the plant towards the light but it's not working too well and it's growing amazingly fast.
😁sometimes they just have a mind of their own . You can try slowly turning it up and staking at an angle and then in a week or 2 try turning it more upright again it may take a few months to get it straight up , or if you have space and don't mind the orchid looking like that you can leave it . If you want to go to extremes you can remove it , but don't cut too close to the rhizome and wait for the next bud to shoot a new pseudobulb , if it is your growing season it should happen relatively quickly .
Hi, I have a dendrobium "White 5N" that is in flower right now. It has one large cane (that's in flower) and one short cane. It had one new growth from the summer. It has not been repotted yet. I just bought it a few months ago. However, this new growth for some reason is now rotting. It's brown and soft and the leaves fell off. My question is should I go on and cut that rotten cane off now or wait for it to stop blooming? I really don't know why the new growth failed. It's in front of a western window and I tried to let it dry a bit between waterings. I try to keep the humidity between 50-65%. Thanks
@@thenaturecompany Those who live in the hilly interior areas do have success with some soft cane dens, as the climate is cooler. We have wet and dry seasons, but of late, climate change has caused more rains than usual. Just wondering where in my environment to place them, where they don't get too drenched. Thanks for your thoughts.😊😊
Thanks for sharing again

@@thenaturecompany hi, no it has not , there have been a few new leaves. Over the years it is very slow.

sorry I forgot to mention I always bet better results with organic plant food 👌
What sanitiser mixture is in that spray bottle?
this is just an isopropyl alcohol , but you can use a flame
Do you know if the dendrobium tetragonum takes a winter rest?
to a degree , reduce watering or mist them instead during winter , as they don't tend to like too long a period without water .

Wild monkey's ???
yes we have vervet monkeys who run through our property often 👍
@@thenaturecompany Really? Where are you? I live in the Caribbean and don't have much luck with soft cane dens. Still, I'll keep trying.
We are in South Africa . I guess you are too warm all year long ? or don't have a dry enough period ?

perhaps try under the eves of the house where the breeze can blow through them and keep them cooler and then you can water when needed .
