Lower gearing puts more stress on the axle shafts and less on the rest of the drivetrain because it multiplies the torque at the ring and pinion. Torque is what kills drivetrain parts.

But I want to make sure I keep my jeep in good condition and not wear out gears and such since I am on a sport 2019 JL. Any recommendations you guys give me I will follow like a student.
Well if ur not doing anything crazy. Those sport axles will hold up pretty well. If possible, I wouldn’t recommend putting money into those axles tht are under there. Re gearing them it self will run around $2000-$2500... lockers... will be another $2000ish... new shafts another $1000... by this point ur wasting a lot of money... if u look.... U can find rubicon take off axles for $3000ish.... tht come geared higher.... thicker shafts and already locked.. I’m not sure how long u been following, but we abused these sport axles quite a bit... we kinda regret dumping all the money we did into em... would have been much cheaper just jumping on the new axle boat right away... But like I said... if ur offroading is mild... u should be good for a bit.
I think 4.88 is going to be the better happy place for both on and off road drivability for the JL. I have definitely noticed a difference in performance going from 35s to 37s with the 4.56 gears. On the highway rpms are higher and I don’t see 8th gear as much and off road I have to preload much more than I used to.
I twisted my rear shafts on 38s... the fronts I had already been on rcvs. U should be fine moderate wheeling on 37s... but of course bad things can always happen.
Excellent video, thanks for letting us peeps know exactly how that mystery box on the front shaft works. I thought that was how it worked but now I know.

@@JLLIFEOFFROAD rust makes things stronger! Fuses all your parts in to one solid hunk of steel! Lol. If I break something, probably just easier to replace entire axle. 😂😂😂
Just curious, would cutting the fork shifter off the FAD be a good idea? Just wonder if the movement back and forward would cause any rubbing issues at all.

I email you pictures of what I do and send you pictures of all the crazy stuff we do at times.
Recommend another way to remove the axle nut...if you are going to use the lugs, put the nuts back on and use the crow bar against those and not the threads, and also use the ground rather than someone else...cause if a slip under pressure, someone may get hurt. Another way, keep the caliper bracket on, use a screwdriver in the vent of the rotor. Another way, you need to have ujoints, put large screwdriver through yoke/ujoint and press against the knuckle. Don't forget a pipe to add additional torque to remove the axle nut. Recommend anyone with a Wrangler or 4x4 with unit bearings, to loosen, anti-seize, and retorque their bolts before too long and everything gets rust-welded in. You really don't need that threaded bolt to hold the rotor. Its for during assembly line so rotor doesn't fall off. As for the JL 1pc inner shaft, you can see where the seal is located in the middle of the shaft on the outside of the FAD location. That is where the axle seal is located, not at the diff, like that of the driver's side. YJs, late model Wagoneers, and early modle XJs (and many Dodge trucks) had the FAD/CAD as well. JL is the only one where I see a 1pc inner shaft keeps the axle seal in stock location. When switching to 1 pc inner shaft on the mentioned Jeep vehicles, one has to add an axle seal on the inside the of the diff.
Yea.. I hate the fad... it is a weak point in the axle plain and simple... FCA should have done locking hubs... at least on the rubicon models... when we break these housings... I guarantee... it will be at the fad... Appreciate the tips... I’ll keep em in mind 🙌

Ouch, Jeep plastic😓 think I’ve done that a couple times. Would some of the electrical cleaner help that? It’s nice to see how the sport axle was handling. So glad I found this video. I’ve got a JLU Sport as well and I’m super paranoid about wheeling it. Looks like the kind of stuff I’ll be doing won’t be that big of a deal. Now to get some 5:13 gears done....
JL LIFE OFFROAD honestly I think you guys are the first ones to actually document its ability on a JL. Would it be fair to say for mild off-roading, dirt trails, etc., that a mildly built 30 could last? By mildly built, I mean proper gearing, hardened aftermarket axles, after market ball joints.
I was about ready to ask about RCVs and you beat me to it. Do you have RCVs on Bromance? If it was a D44, would you have justified the extra 500$ for the RCV? Also, does the yukon front shaft upgrade the U-joint or just the fact that the shaft is chromo? I thought I found a dana front that had a bigger u-joint but I might not have been looking at the right thing.
Yes.. I do have RCVs in bromance. If she had 44s we would have shelled out for rcvs for hers as well. I’m not to sure if the u joints are bigger.. I want to say it’s not... but currently not at home to check 😬😬😬
The Dana Spicer front chromoly replacement axle shafts come with a bigger upgraded spicer 1410 series axle ujoint for JL and JT. Yukon just uses the stock 1350 series spicer ujoint. So with the Dana you get upgraded shaft material as well as a larger ujoint than stock.
I'll just say Wow!! And UA-cam is making me mad. I haven't gotten the notifications for the last few videos 😔 if Misty didn't post it on Facebook I would not have known this video was released.
Hmmm, I know that ain’t the first time that has happened to u... are ur notifications turned on for UA-cam on ur phone?? I know if it’s not, u won’t get em??
Because Jeeps are only built just strong enough to be adequate to drive down a paved road in stock form. If it were any other brand there would be much complaining about how much upgrades you have to do just to make it not break.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD thanks! front swap to the ultimate d44 makes a lot of sense. Were the rear cromo axle shafts twisted or did you upgrade the housing just for insurance?

How are you guys liking the 4.56’s off-road? I’m going to need to re-gear soon and was debating between those and 4.88’s.
37s right?
JL LIFE OFFROAD yeah and I do a lot of freeway driving, so I’m kinda torn between the two.
JL LIFE OFFROAD good to know, we do have some steep rocky hill climbs, sounds like 4.88 is the ticket.
Not sure if they are the same ones but you might want to check if those jack stands were included in Harbor Freights recall
Yea, this video was filmed right before tht was announced... I returned em and bought some duralasts stands 🙌 thanks for looking out thou 🙌
I wonder how much stronger the Rubicon is. I have the same Jl with 37‘s but it’s a Rubicon. This video makes me nervous.
Have u watched the video when we swapped the rears on the rubicon?
JL LIFE OFFROAD Might’ve missed that one. But I guarantee that I don’t drive my jeep as hard as you guys do so maybe I will be OK
ua-cam.com/video/VLRH4EQhUKc/v-deo.html
I twisted my rear shafts on 38s... the fronts I had already been on rcvs.
U should be fine moderate wheeling on 37s... but of course bad things can always happen.
JL LIFE OFFROAD I take my jeep off road about two times a week from mild to moderate stuff and everything seems to be OK so far
Excellent video, thanks for letting us peeps know exactly how that mystery box on the front shaft works. I thought that was how it worked but now I know.
😂😂😂 in mr Beans voice.. mmmmagic
Brings back nightmares! Yours looked so easy 🤔🤔😂 you're sign off took a while...Misty like "shut up mo, I'm done...need a beer!" Great video Franklin's. Moab anyone???
Lol, it was just getting REALLY hot outside. Lol and it’s much easier wrenching when ur not fighting rust 😂
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD rust makes things stronger! Fuses all your parts in to one solid hunk of steel! Lol. If I break something, probably just easier to replace entire axle. 😂😂😂
I mean... hard to argue tht logic bro 😂😂😂
Great video. Missy killed it. Thank you for sharing.
She always does! 😂🙌 thanks for watching!!
Just curious, would cutting the fork shifter off the FAD be a good idea? Just wonder if the movement back and forward would cause any rubbing issues at all.
I’d actually recommend getting a delete plate for the fad motor... it’s not even worth keeping there... and is actually the next video we will be publishing.
Cavfab makes one... $30... fits great...
On the other side... Iv made my own for mistys jeep... it works... not as nice of a fit thou 😂😂😂
Ah, makes sense. Look forward to that video and I’ll keep that in mind when I get to that point with mine! Thanks again for the quick response!
Absolutely! Thanks for the support!! 🙌🙌 if u ever have questions! I’m here to help
Another great video. I just wanted to let you guys know that I got the sweat shirt today. Thank you so much. Have a great day.
Killer! Glad you finally got it! Sorry it took so long to ship.. we have no control over it 🙌 take a pic and tag us!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I will thank you guys
They are Danas 44?
Dana 30/35 combo
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Thanks bro.
Is there delete fad part, if not, there should be one. Nice 👍 job misty., great simple narrator too.
There is... a few company’s make one... I have one cut by cavfab... we cut one for mistys ... I hate tht FAD
We always say if you wanna break something break it right lol. I watch my dad take his jeep down the road speed shifting till the transmission went out. We got it on the lift and seen the hole in the side of it . After we drop the pan there was parts in the pan. We was installing a new one but wanted to give the old transmission a final good bye lol.
I think the new Shafts are gonna hold up for a good little bit. I know y'all gonna use and abuse it the right way to test it out. Looking forward to hearing or seeing the torture test. Keep up the good work and take it easy
Hey u get ur prize yet?
Ahahahah I know that feeling 😂😂😂 I mean... u kinda have to at that point right? 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching brother, we always appreciate your support!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD yeah bro I sure did gonna see what I need to 4th July weekend. I was busy last weekend when I was home. Had to tend to some other stuff plus measuring stuff on my truck to build to build a back half.
Definitely looking forward to what I need to do lol. I email you pictures of what I do and send you pictures of all the crazy stuff we do at times.
No worries man, life get busy. Looking forward to seeing how u make it work 🙌
Recommend another way to remove the axle nut...if you are going to use the lugs, put the nuts back on and use the crow bar against those and not the threads, and also use the ground rather than someone else...cause if a slip under pressure, someone may get hurt.
Good video guys! Now get to Moab and test them!
Lol, break it till we can’t 😂🙌
Are the tires rubbing the powder coat off the control arms?
They are.. we bought her wheels after installing her lift... it was enough to clear... as we kept going bigger tires, it started rubbing more and more... we need more backspacing...
Misty don’t want spacers
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD ah when I watched I was all wait a minute theres powder coat missing lol yeah spacers can be iffy if not used with lots of thread lock, y'all wanna help me install my long arms I have sitting in boxes when I get back to cruces in a few weeks!?? 😁
Ur asking me if I wanna drive 4 hours to install a long arm kit!? 😂😂😂😂
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD lol nah id go to you and chill in alb for a few days haha I'm jk tho its a really simple install
Ouch, Jeep plastic😓 think I’ve done that a couple times. Would some of the electrical cleaner help that?
It’s nice to see how the sport axle was handling. Wonder why the driver side was more twisted though.
That front upgrade seems like a good idea. I’m curious how my 4.88 gears will handle after they’re broke in on the trail. I don’t wheel as much as y’all do(jealous of y’all) but maybe that will prolong the axle till I can do my swap. Did y’all say prorock, or ultimate Dana 44?
Awesome video once again from y’all!
Just being careful pulling them will be ur best option to avoid breaking.. but mistakes happen lol.
As far as why one side was more twisted the. The other? Tht really just depends on the level of traction.... 🤷♂️ lol
We love to host u if u ever make it out our way 🙌🙌🙌
Dana is the cheapest btw 😂
I’m not big on dynatrac.... because they use jk internals... being tht I spent $1400 on jl RCVs... not thrilled about having to buy new RCVs lol
JL LIFE OFFROAD I’d be down to hang with y’all! My wife would keep reminding me like the sticker that some have: “remember, you gotta drive this back”.
Just got my move to the mainland USA delayed because of the virus stuff so I’m hoping we’re still going to Arizona next.
JL LIFE OFFROAD dam ya I’d want to move the internals to the new axle.
Has to happen sooner or later. When u do. U won’t be to far of a drive 🤷♂️ 😂
Great wrenching thanks you guys ❤️
Absolutely! And thank you for watching!!!
Awesome sauce Bro 👌 😎 🙌 👏 👍
Thanks brother 🙌🙌🙌
Get that lady a Milwaukee impact
Care to donate? 😂😂😂 JK! nothing wrong with some physical labor.
Milwaukee power tools are on the list... just ain’t ready to pay for em yet lol
That beautiful lady can host her own gun show 💪😁💪
soo thats the first good look at FAD i have had
I can now say I think it SUX why didnt they just put a locking DIFF????
I agree.. locking hubs would have been the direction to go... but u know company’s... they needed to save $50 an axle... 🙄 fad- dumbest damn thing on my jeep
JL LIFE OFFROAD I really like the way you guys run your channel and the way you will win this stupid Covid thing is over it be nice to get together with you and do some wheeling in New Mexico
Great video and teamwork! Heck yeah👏
Thanks buddy! Appreciate you watching!
Did you get any light/error message in the dashboard related to FAD when you changed the axle shaft to one piece?
No, u will not get the fad light by moving to a one piece... you will get the fad light by deleting the motor thou... I have a video coming up about how to delete the fad crap soon 🙌🙌🙌
Great update stock wont handle stock wheels when wheeling. You need some air tools but you got mighty Misty breaking bolts loose. Lol! Great video.
Lol... the list of tools never end... wanting to upgrade my power tools to Milwaukee...
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Ya I own a auto repair shop and I still don't have enough tools!🤣🤣 you guys are awesome.
Thanks brother! Really appreciate hearing it! 🙌🙌
Is your sport a m200 rear axle or m220?
M200 on the sport my friend 🙌
Wow, you guys rock. Family of Jeepers here, too, and it’s really a great benefit to have your vids as resources! I’m about to run 37s on my 2DR JL Sport S 6spd with Dana 44 on the rear. I won’t do any wheeling. What are the major pieces of hardware I should reinforce with to run 37s safely, besides chromoly axle shafts? I’ll prob run 5.13 gears and will def employ a JL Tazer. Thanks for answering if you have time!
With no wheeling... u should be fine.... ball joints would be what I’d be looking into before shafts if u don’t plan on wheeling.
Glad to hear u enjoy the channel! 🙌
Got the fancy wrenches!!! Good job!
They are life changing! 🙌😂
Where do I order 2 Misty's. Take 2 so when 1 get's tired I have a second to keep the work going. lol Great video.
Gotta grow ur own bro 😂
Ahhhh - So nice to see you couching your wife in the mechanics of the jeep. You go girl. I'm definitely going to show this clip to my wife. Not that she can't but to help her overcome the fear of doing in-depth work on her jeep as well. We to have his and her jeeps. Awesome Video and Great narration...
Thank you! And thank you for watching!
Digging into a vehicle can be intimidating..making mistakes can be expensive 😂
But I tell anyone... most jobs are simple and easy... just takes the correct tools and patience 🙌
Thank you again for watching! Hope it helps encourage the wife 🙌🙌🙌
Rick, coaching*.... couching is a totally different topic.
Thanks for the video. I'm scared to see what kind of damage I've done to my axles. Now I know what to expect.
Lol 😂 just keep ignoring it till u can’t no more 😂😂😂😂 long as it’s working! Am I right??!!? 🙌😂
Aww damn more money
So glad I found this video. I’ve got a JLU Sport as well and I’m super paranoid about wheeling it. Looks like the kind of stuff I’ll be doing won’t be that big of a deal.
Now to get some 5:13 gears done....
Lol, I’m surprised how much abuse this axle has been able to handle.... but
I STILL DONT RECOMMEND RUNNING 37s on a sport 😂
JL LIFE OFFROAD honestly I think you guys are the first ones to actually document its ability on a JL. Would it be fair to say for mild off-roading, dirt trails, etc., that a mildly built 30 could last? By mildly built, I mean proper gearing, hardened aftermarket axles, after market ball joints.
Nice upgrade, as a fellow sport this is a good video
Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching!
Good to know....
Thanks buddy
I'll just say Wow!! And UA-cam is making me mad. I haven't gotten the notifications for the last few videos 😔 if Misty didn't post it on Facebook I would not have known this video was released.
Hmmm, I know that ain’t the first time that has happened to u... are ur notifications turned on for UA-cam on ur phone?? I know if it’s not, u won’t get em??
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I think UA-cam just being mean to me right now cuz the bell is turned on 🤷🏼♂️
Every Friday we usually have a new one out lol.
Because Jeeps are only built just strong enough to be adequate to drive down a paved road in stock form. If it were any other brand there would be much complaining about how much upgrades you have to do just to make it not break.
Awesome vid guys
! Met you at laguna burger a couple weeks ago! You guys sell any stickers?
I remember! So we don’t sell decals... but we send em free!

Great video. Makes me some what confident about trying 37s on my JL sport m186/m220. It would be temporary untill I got a 44 front.
Great content, thanks for sharing. Any update planned for how are the CroMo’s holding up to the 37’s?
ua-cam.com/video/knJ0QuaTwzs/v-deo.html
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD thanks! front swap to the ultimate d44 makes a lot of sense. Were the rear cromo axle shafts twisted or did you upgrade the housing just for insurance?
It was more so we wanted to hear to 5.13 and didn’t want to regear the old axle again... and again when it inevitably broke... more money upfront... less in the long run
Heathen getting some "BEEF"!!😉👍🏻👊🏻🤘🏻
😂 thanks for watching bro!
Love the fact you turn your own wrenches hope you continue to do so....
Prepping for the rubicon getting random parts and sockets like the 36 mm for the spindle nut just Incase, I’m most likely going to buy some new axle shafts before hitting the trail
Bro his JLUR and my gladiator rubicon and a couple of other buddies are hitting the rubicon August 14th (first day of the trail) until Sunday/Monday, be cool if you guys could make it
Keep up the good work !!
Other amount of satisfaction, pride and peace of mind we get from doing our own work is priceless... 😂
We would love to go, but no way we can make it this year... kids starting school.... putting in for a test promote around the same time.

U keep watching, we will keep making 🙌🙌🙌
Do you have Dana 30s on the front?
Yes sir!
Another great video..Props to Missy..You go girl. I'm sure the chromo shafts will handle more abuse then the stocks..

Good video, looks like all in all the axle shaft replacement is a relatively simple one
It’s simple stuff... just need some know how... and a few tools 🙌🙌🙌
