FAD Delete for the Jeep JL

The FAD (front axle disconnect) is the most hated part on this Jeep to me. More systems to wad through, more things to go wrong. Its much simpler to just delete the entire thing. Its pretty simple to do just requires a few extra parts.
1. need to replace your font axle shaft from a 2 piece, to a 1 piece.
2. using a reprogrammer to delete the FAD software from the computer system.
3. remove the motor entirely and use a delete plate in its place.
Unfortunately, deleting the FAD won't add strength to your axle, but will gain you additional clearance off-road, make that front LCA lower, passenger bolt easier to access and eliminate any 4x4 failure over the FAD not functioning as designed!

I admire fellows like this that genuinely understand the mechanics, engineering, nature, and utilization of Wranglers (and other related mechanized things).
Then check my page out please. Let me know what you think. m.ua-cam.com/users/c130aviator
Glad to hear u enjoy the channel my friend! 🙌 hope I can teach u something at some point as well 🤷♂️ rock on!!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD you have taught me a bunch of stuff brother. Keep doing you mo!
Really enjoy your videos. You keep it simple in the explanation department.
Have a request. Could you possibly do a video on replacing/extending the transfer case breather tube on a 3.6L automatic JL? I can't seem to find one anywhere on the internet. TIA
Man, y'alls garage is about full with all those tools! nice!
Been investing in tools lately. Time to make my life easier lol
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD i feeeeeel that
enjoy the videos !!!! i have a 2023 jeep rubicon 3.0 diesel i wish someone can do a video on how to unplug the egr ..... confusing as hell def doing the fab delete as well
Great vid as usual, bro. Not decided whether I'll do this or not, yet. We'll see how it goes.
Only for serious off roaders... u will be fine 😂
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Bruh.....😳😳🙄🙄

Came across your page and really enjoy your info (Jeep Newbie here). Noticed the Zia in your logo. If you are in NM, howdy partner from Albuquerque.
👋👋 burqueno!
Hi! Great video, thanks! Do you know if Tazer will be able to delete FAD on the Wrangler JL with a clutch type T-Case, which is not mechanical and controlled by computer? Seems like Jscan is struggling to do it - computer still wants FAD to engage 4wd, although serv 4wd warning is killed.
Can a JK axle shaft be used as a replacement for the 2pc axle shaft?
Does the kit come with a block off for the FAD connector? I would hate to be in water and the 12v + short and cause 4wd issues. Or does that get disabled with the Tazer mini?
It ain't nothing but a FAD anyways. Nice job and of course, great illustrations!!!
I hope so... next thing I wanna do is delete the 2nd battery 😒
Question what did you do with plug you removed from the fad? I just taped mine up to it self and left it. but I am always worried about the water coming in from water crossings and such thanks for the video and keep it up sir!
I taped it off as u described
My tazer doesn't have that feature i went with the basic one 😒 but the new axle got the metalcloak FAD skid plate so that helps a little bit lol
Well im 90% sure u can always upload the premium software onto it if you pay the difference?????
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD that will awesome if i can do that
🤷♂️
The grunts when tightening the FAD delete plate bolts, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Excellent video!
Informative, thank you. Did you remove the fad harness or just left it hanging there?
I zip tied it up and out of the way
Awesome video!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
only the JL Rubicon model have Front Axle Disconnect ? or its also available on the sport and Sahara ?
All models have the FAD
What about pinion angle? Wouldn’t going too far with your caster give you a negative pinion angle causing drive shaft bind?
If u go crazy with the caster, yes. I have mine around 5.8ish I few Thts a great medium ground. Iv seen some crazies pull their caster to 7.5. 😬
Those peeps really should be cutting and welding on different brackets to accommodate tht crazy angle.
been thinking about picking up adjustable arms and giving my jeep some more caster. damn thing has wandered all over the place from day 1, the mopar 2 inch lift is doing ok, but it's tiring to drive...that moab trip for 7 hours of highway... geesh. also thinking about trading it in on a bronco lol!
Im not a fan with the IFS. Im more so trying to figure out how im gonna strip all my upgrades on bromance so I can get the semi JL.
Yes adding some caster will help the wondering The mopar lift is another WTF kit by FCA. actually what im making the video on this week
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I'll be watching!!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD oh i was also planning to just run the mopar lift until i noticed some play/death wobble. but so far it's held up to my shenanigans.
Lol not on mine.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD well... You kinda go hard lolol!!!!
"Do you need to do this?! - Of course not" Every conversation I have with my wife about Jeep things lol
Lmao. It’s to make it better!
I’m curious if superchips has something like the tazer tuner? Otherwise awesome explanation for this delete and install!
They should... u would just need to hook it up to a computer and update. I switched to taser because it had a lot more options... superchip has since been adding the same stuff. Superchip actually pats taser a license fee for each unit they sell.
JL LIFE OFFROAD didn’t know that about the tuners. I know I had my initial issues with my TD2 from superchips but I imagine I’d have to call them about how to change the tune too delete the FAD. Still need to call them to delete my rear sensors alert since my Poison Spyder bumper didn’t have any placement for the sensors.
Oh yeah more video :-) thank you
LOL, thank you for finding time to watch!
Where did you get your hoodie?
I just got a new rubicon today so I don't need locking hubs right now because this thing is unlocking my axle. Right?
Yes, u don’t need locking hubs with the Jl, it does it automatically for you.
I rather have the hubs… just a wish list is all
how are your driveline vibrations on highway with solid front axle shafts/FAD delete?
Non existent.
I’m in the desert and low hanging fruit is a pet peeve. I guarantee that I can find the fruit and rip something open. I’m looking at the Fad skids by Metal Cloak. I now have a better understanding of its crappy placement. Huge fan of your non know it all attitude. And your helper. Makes me laugh. My wife isn’t getting within 100 yards of me in my garage.
20 JLUR Diesel Great White Bread
Another great video. You gonna try to push 40s on the 44s? I know a few people doin it just waiting to see long term effects before I go down that road.
Possibly, we will see how things progress... being a daily, im still not %100 sold on 40s
If u want 40's going to need axel swap no free lunch . Even rock jock 44 and pro rock 44 are max rated at 37's do u really thank stock was built for 37's ? Every body wants big boy tires but not cash. To up grade to big parts .
@@street_legal_go_kart7356 Him and Misty have both done a lot of axel upgrades. Pretty sure the only thing he could do to improve is going to tons.
@@street_legal_go_kart7356 you dont NEED to do anything. There are some really light weight 37" tires out there. Even Jk's can run them with the older 44. I've had a set of heavy wheels and 33s that weigh as much as my wheels and 37s now. So as far as NEED goes....I believe you're mistaken. Go check out Ben Antons channel...he could use your EXPERT help👌👌👌👍👍
@@jasondevereaux3369 lol many jks have bent tubes or c's axels seals and adjustable ball joins shows someitns not right. Many bend on 35's but sure what ever helps u sleep . I may not be an expert . But been in game long time . And pay attention.
With the twist of the axle what does that do to your pinion angle, any potential issues there?
Depends how far u go. Stock it’s around 4ish.... Iv pushes mine out to about 5.8ish. Some crazy people push it out to past 7. It’s a balancing act thou.
In the video you show a 1 piece shaft with a u joint, the link and all I can find from RCV are cv axles. Where did you get the 1 piece shaft? I would like to eliminate the Fad but not go all the way to RCV's
Rcv only does CV joints.. if your looking for a u joint… I’d check into dana
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD the one you show in your video? Who makes that axle? It's not RCV that was my question
Those are the stock axles in the video, but upgraded our sport to the dana spicer axles
FAD!!! The artist formally known as CAD!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 My YJ has it but I have the cable actuator so I don't have to worry about it not engaging
I hate the week spot it creates, I hate where the axle seal is, I hate it prevents sleeving the tubes. LOL I know its not new technology, but feel Jeep missed a killer opportunity to install locking hubs on at least the rubicon axles
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I agree!!! Rubies need the beef!!!
What should I torque the 4 plate cover bolts to?
Im not to sure, I went snug on it.... being smaller bolts, they don't need a ton.
So what do you use for your locker now? Air locker or E locker? Without the FAD, elocker wouldn’t work??
Stock e lockers
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD so the ELocker has nothing to do with the FAD then?
No
Hey Sir, Did you notice any drag on the motor on yours or Heathens (Ud44) I upgrade the a UD44 and I certainly feel it at 65-70 MPH
Adding any significant weight to the jeep will be felt. The best way to counter it, is either making it lighter, or regearing.
I’m assuming drag = sluggish/slow
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Yeah I went 4.88 UD and Rubicon rear.
Did you reservice the axle with the oil that came out during disassembly?
I actually did an oil change a week or two after this video
How does the oil get from the housing to the axle on that side. I only put in 1.5 quarts and it was full.
The inner seal is on the outside of the fad.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD how many qts did you use.
Wanna say 2 or maybe 1.75 quarts...
Do you have any vibration driving on the street daily? I'm looking at this as an option .
No sir, no vibrations when I deletednit
No sir, no vibrations when I deleted it
Did you notice any lower mpg??
yes like .3-.5 lower, not much
So how are you liking the new 37? I've been trying to get ahold of Milestar for probably 6 weeks for a new set of tires and no one replies to emails or answers their phone.
Iv been very happy with mine... they still gripping great offroad.. handling great on... I did have a slight tire vibration after Socorro... but it seems to have gone away at this point 🤷♂️
Does all JL have this or is it a Rubicon thing only?
It’s a JL thing 👎👎👎
OK Now I get it.
😉
Back when you still had those sweet ass tires. LMAO!
Lol 😂 I just can’t get away from them! 😂😂😂
Great video. What do you think that you are running for caster?
its around 5.7 -5.9 thanks for watching friend
Woohoo (3rd) that's ok I usually need someone to loosen it up for me
(face palm) LOL
Lmfao that’s funny
😂
Truss time!
yeeeesssss sir
Love show and tell. Now know more excuses when you get hung up. Lol😂
HAHAHAHHA ill always have an excuse bro XD
With out the FAD how to you engage and disengage the front axel from turning in 2H the differential? Did you install hub lockers?
Solid axles, so they are always spinning… I’m hoping a company makes a conversion kit to install locking hubs. But until then…
Funny...compare this FAD of the JL to the CAD of the YJ....YJ is done by vacuum and its aftermarket upgrade is a cable actuator. Similar to the JL upgrade to a single shaft, YJ can use a ZJ, TJ, XJ single inner shaft. However, when the YJ goes to the single inner shaft, an axle shaft seal has to be placed in the differential ear of the tube. JLs doesn't, just use the proper shaft with the machined point in the middle of the shaft for the axle seal.
My biggest problem with the fad is the weak spot it makes in the housing..
I’m more concerned and tweaking the housing then i am the fad not functioning....
By far the biggest ‘hate’ I have on my Jeep
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I can see that especially with the many JK tube cracks in that area. Do you know if its cast or steel housing? There will be trusses made to weld over and into it soon enough.
Michael Moran it’s cast steel... and artec makes a truss for it already...
I think people forget locking hubs. For enthusiasts…. Sure. But they broke like crazy. Required maintenance… (taking apart and cleaning and greasing and sealing) and for most people that had a 4x4 for winter or occasional use, they were corroded or frozen and couldn’t be turned. When they needed to be.
We… the people that grew up with turn in hubs, kinda demanded something different as 4x4s became more common and reached a broader market.
For better or worse. I think for the non enthusiast, we’re better off without manual hubs. Hubs used to be a common spare. Always had hubs and tools and grease and seals for when a hub grenaded.
Dodge had this in the 80s with the CAD. Horrible idea, Locking Hubs swap the world
Do you think the front axle disconnect will stick around for future models, or is it just a FAD???!!😆😆😅🤣😂 one win for the jk👍👍
I hope not, dumbest thing by far on the JL, funny guy with ur killer dad jokes lol
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD fuckin kids
Hahahahaha ha good one

Yo! What’s up Mo!
my man, hope your staying safe
Yee haw
eff the fad man, piece of garbage
JL LIFE OFFROAD picture of you hucking it is priceless
Why not just swap to stronger axel that does not have that weak point in tube and avoid all that work ?
Simple answer... I swapped in the rcvs about 1.5 years ago... already had the taser reprogrammer the plate only cost $30 and about 30 minutes of my time. I don’t see why I wouldn’t do it.
why would you change your caster? the jeep would handle like shit. if you lift the jeep you adjust your arms not change your caster. Adjusting the arms keeps your axle "pitched" to a factory caster setting. I cant see why you would rotate your axle backwards
Your shirt says “Rub Con”. What kind of convention is that? 😂🤷🏼♂️
😂😂 the fun kind 😉😂😘
Gimmicky push button FAD.
Old school locking hubs. KISS 💋Keep it simply stupid.
Agreed... delete as many of these ‘smart’ systems as you can.... only makes trouble shooting harder.
woohoo 1st
🎉 WOOT WOOT!
OK now I have some more time. Great video Mo as always. So here is a question that has me Baffled, so seems like a lot of people are adding more caster for I guess better steering or ride? That like you said turns the FAD downward, but doesn’t it also turn the pinion angle down, in turn putting more strain on the U joints? Back in the day when we lifted, we turn the axle (pinion) upward to decrease the angle, Relieving stress on the U joints. so what am I missing here? Unless you are going to Rotate the axle tubes in the differential to give you more caster. Your Solving one problem but creating another. But maybe I am wrong. Again thanks for the great video. Love Ya. Take care and tell Missy we are missing her jokes.
Yes... some people are running 7+ on caster. Which is just insane to me. I run 5.7ish
The more caster.. the more effed u will make ur opinion angle.. I think it’s a good middle ground where I have mine and am happy with it... the other way to fix it is to cut off the brackets and re weld them on to allow more caster.
damn $30 and they dont even powder coat it?
U can always cut ur own 🤷♂️
Using the word “Yeet” is kinda a fad isn’t it?
Meh, delete and throw away, didn’t have the same ring 😂😂😂
