  • More and more nations are electing female heads och state or heads of government, is that a good development? Are the Angela Merkel, Margaret Thatcher, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Yulia Tymoshenko, Benazir Bhutto, Jacinda Ardern, Aung San Suu Kyi, Giorgia Meloni, Indira Gandhi, Sanna Marin, Michelle Bachelet, Dilma Rousseff and Julia Gillard's of the world doing us good or not?
What impact could a more diverse set of politicians and leaders have and is this just a result of quota systems? Is it an indicator of increased gender equality or is it an example of feminism gone mad?

Man i was one of the persons who argued with you in comments about "why the world is a better place " on this subject , didnt expect you to do a whole video on this , also "in a nice tone " 😂 , you failed to highlight the fact that women have a bigger role in the familly from giving birth to raising childrens etc... wich make doing politics or any job much more difficult for them . I enjoy your videos so keep them comming, greetings from Morocco

Love the video! Your comment about men's reaction if there had ONLY been female presidents was spot on. I think it's dangerous to say that a woman would be /better/ on average as a leader... but certainly it seems like she would be, on average, the same. And, as you point out, issues affecting only a portion of the population (like women, or minority groups) may cenrtainly be addressed better by someone who belongs to that group. Seeing the US abortion laws last year was crazy, with old white men saying that 6 weeks of pregnancy is plenty time to get an abortion if you want to, not understanding that at "6 weeks pregnant" your period is probably only a few days late.

Thanks so much for sharing your research! Just revisited my memories of 2020 Belarus elections we held. When a women rightfully won over most of the votes, but. Well, you may probably know how it has turned out. She isn't the perfect politician by any means, but ultimately better then our present dictator. So upsetting reliving these moments again, but your video still gave me hope for a better change. Maybe someday, since prognosis are relatively positive overall

I highly respect the work you've done here. I like that you didn't make this some apathetic analysis or just a pop science fact.
So many talk about this how they would about giraffes having long necks to reach leaves; like it's a fact of life worth remembering but not worth doing something with it.

Amazing video and so well done. Leadership, representation and gender are powerful subjects

You didn't touch on leadership skills. It's tempting to think that the populace votes (or doesn't vote) for a candidate. But to get to be in that position requires the active support of many people of both genders.

It would be nice if you would show which government had a prime minister in chronological order.
And I'm not saying that because we had a prime minister in 1969
    (Golda Meir)😅

Well done. I didn't notice that President Obama did much for racial concerns in the US, It seemed like the one forbidden topic during his years. Talking to the men in my circle Hilary incited absolute rage for some reason. I'd have to say her election would have been a step back just because of the backlash it would have set up. I'm not into politics but assume it would require a conservative woman to win over the traditional people who oppose women in office, while the less conservative would cut her some slack. Maybe not-it was a conservative woman who led the fight against the Equal Rights Amendment, it's hard to forgive that.

I think part off the reason why many American men despised Hillary, other than sexism, is that she had an image of being incredibly corrupt and indifference to the problems of the nation.
I have likened her to Nixon coming back from the grave and getting gender reassignment surgery.
Not to imply Trump was any better. He was more unpopular than Hillary, and rightly so I believe.
I think either Michelle or Bernie would've done more for female emancipation, without backlash so hard that cities would be razed to the ground.
Michelle was already widely popular and had a generally good public image. She being a woman naturally also meant she had an intuitive understanding of the problems faced only or mostly by women.
Bernie was more controversial, but ultimately still very popular.
Whilst Marxist policy calls for a more passive stand on female matters, it still would've been more progressive than anything the conservatives or liberals could've come up with.

I remember reading in 'Fall and Rise of Empires: Search for Survival' by Sir John Glubb and he mentions that the rise of women into politics were a sign of a cultures decline. I'll see if I can find the paragraph:
    >An increase in the influence of women in
public life has often been associated with na-
    tional decline.
    >The later Romans complained
that, although Rome ruled the world, women
    ruled Rome.
    >In the tenth century, a similar
tendency was observable in the Arab Empire,
the women demanding admission to the
    professions hitherto monopolized by men.
    ‘What,’ wrote the contemporary historian,
Ibn Bessam, ‘have the professions of clerk,
tax-collector or preacher to do with women?
    >These occupations have always been limited
to men alone.’ Many women practiced law,
while others obtained posts as university
professors. There was an agitation for the
    appointment of female judges, which,
however, does not appear to have succeeded.
Soon after this period, government and
public order collapsed, and foreign invaders
    overran the country.
    >The resulting increase
in confusion and violence made it unsafe for
women to move unescorted in the streets,
with the result that this feminist movement
    collapsed.
Perhaps it is best that patriarchy persists since matriarchy seems to fall shortly after coming about. At least the former is a test and tried method of governance. You mention Europe leads the world in women's representation in the sphere of politics and the birthrate is abysmal. Another sign of decline was the mass influx of foreigners which all seems to happens now in Europe. The cost of making gender equality a reality, at least with regards to the law, seems to break every state that tries the act. I guess we shall see if the trend holds true.

Utter BS. Actually the places that brings the most immigrants are the most innovative and dynamical. If a country sees it's number of immigrants falling it's a sign of decline. I think you can say the opposite of what that person is saying to be right...

    • @thesecondhat4717

@@MrPicoli Sounds like the Modern American Myth, who knows if it is correct? In my nation (Denmark) they are disproportional welfare leeches and criminals. The country's grandeur is what attracts immigrants until the coffers are all spent and divisions cause collapse. You already see America Balkanize, for example. Besides the country has constant racial power struggles.

    • @xBINARYGODx
      @xBINARYGODx 10 місяців тому

@@thesecondhat4717 its not a myth, its fact - the countries that accept immigration have better long term prospects that those that are against it (in policy, not some public opinion pole). This is not just in American, this is in countries the world over. Of course, i am sure there are some example where that doesn't work out, but lots of other things can also muck with the works, so the speak.
also, keep in mind we are commenting under a sexist asshole who thinks declines must be linked to female rule.

You could hardly call any of these societies matriarchal in any way. Even assuming they were, it would be foolish to say that patriarchal societies somehow were more resistant to collapse.
Societies collapse due to many factors, practically always unrelated to gender. Think cost of living, food prices, military underinvestment or overinvestment, geography, communication or foreign influence.
Societies didn't immediately collapse as soon as a queen, empress, president or prime minister came into power. Nor did they when women started doing labour previously done by men.
