So many of her songs she bared her soul and poured the story of every wound, regret and heartache she every experienced, over and over again, every time she sang them. Those are the ones I think of when I think of her name. But then there are the ones where she's just unabashedly, happily showing off, consciously playing with her own vast technical virtuosity. This one of those and its why I love it.
I know every generation says this but OUR music from the 60’s, 70, 80’s was by far better than anything today. In fact I know more 20-30 somethings that listen and love their parents, grandparents music!
100 percent agreement.. it's not even up for debate.. and those that want to argue it.. are ignorant to the fact that they really don't know this older music... if they did they would understand .
For those wondering, the musicians are lead and backing vocalist Linda Ronstadt, backing vocalists Patti Austin and Rosemary Butler, electric guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Bob Glaub, drummer Russ Kunkel, and pianist-organist Bill Payne.
Amen to that Smokey Robinson is one of my favorite singers but Linda in my opinion owns Oooo Baby Baby don't get me wrong Smokey Robinson and the Miracles version blew me away but Linda really nailed it for me!
Not this one, sorry. Joe will aways own this one. Don't get me wrong, I love Linda and her voice, but the man who wrote this song will always own it, Joe South. RIP,,Joe
No one else could go from belt it out to soft so effortlessly then back and forth. She could do whatever she wanted to do with that voice. Can't think of any other singer that versatile.
@@charlottearenaWas this early on in her career? Was it in an arena? She was insecure about performing in those early years, but thankfully, her nerves did not affect her voice. So regret not seeing her live, especially, given the fact that I lived in a suburb of NYC and could've seen her in countless venues. Just wasn't a cool teen/twenty-something. Glad you have that memory.
@@lnl3237 Thank you. It was in the late 70's, it was held open air at the cricket ground (night), which was a bit of a weird place seeing as we had a nice ,new entertainment centre, in Perth, Western Australia. We didn't get all the international stars, because we are so far away from the other states. I wasn't up close, but her voice was flawless and I was mesmerized.
I used to listen to this song over and over when I was a teenager (40 yrs ago) and it is still one of my favorite songs. Linda had a great voice and is in my top 5 favorite female vocalists. She was stunning as well - very beautiful. Glad you got to experience this song, as it wasn't played mainstream like several of her other songs. It should've been tho cuz it's great - my favorite of hers.
Me too !check out the notes she hits right before her voice fades out on I just don't know what to do with .myself from the winter light cd a must have for serious Ronstadt fans
So true. You just sit back and relax and marvel at her every choice of note. Never quite know where she's going to go, but you're always confident she's going to get there.
Joe definitely deserves to be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!! Everything he has written and performed and his guitar works. But rest assured, The Go Gos are in, ha ha ha!! 🤪
ALL of her music videos were performed live. No lip synching. I grew up listening to her in the 70's. When videos came along a lot of people have forgotten--many acts did not want to do them but had to. Linda did all hers live Very big difference between the young of the 80's and those of us from 60's and 70's Food for thought.
Oh the power behind that voice!! She could go from belting out "Yeah yeah yeah" to the soft "I knew you when" in like NOW. Amazing. I had the privelge of seeing her live courtesy of my employer at Pine Knob music pavilion in Michigan in 1988. She no longer is able to sing due to a neurological condition, but oh the memories. Loved her from the time I first heard her sing "Different Drum" (a song written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees) when she was with the Stone Ponies & before she was really known.
Mr. Roth, I know living with regret is not mentally healthy, but I am anguished that I never saw her live...and she was performing right in my backyard for decades. What a clueless teen and young woman I was!
2:09 onwards the brilliance, the magnificence, the superiority, the awe inspiring perfection, the beauty, the absolute admiration of is? Out of this world! Love you Linda, love you forever!
You have always had an Incredible voice, Linda!! I know that you never thought you were good enough but You were so far beyond being Good Enough!! You were and are Amazing!! I've always loved your music and I wish you the very Best always Linda ❤
She adds to the power of her voice (if that could ever be necessary) with her eyes, hand gestures, and the way she handles the microphone. So glad I was a teen in the 60s and had all these years if Linda!
She is THE best female singer ever.

Beautifully stated!
This song is too underrated too.

Billy Joe Royal would be proud of the way you sang his song🥰
Joe South, the writer would like this too.
@@kevmike3687 He would have liked this.
What a talented babe with the big, expressive brown eyes ❤
How refreshing to hear a quality, natural singing voice again. No ridiculous warbling from a manufactured voice.
EXACTLY.....warbling and sliding into every note has become the norm now
True.. so natural extraordinary voice i've heard...
Yes, like Nicks.
Lindas a natural
Beautiful voice 💞
Heard her singing a duet with Aaron Neville
Was it ' Don't know
Much ' 😍
she was my dads favorite. as a single dad he did household chores and would say “she can wash my dishes anytime” 💜
Holy mother of god!! Was there ever a song that Linda Ronstadt couldn't sing with godlike power, conviction and precision?!
Like Dolly Parton said Linda can sing anything!
No 🤗
No. She could and did do it all.
Nope!
For those wondering, the musicians are lead and backing vocalist Linda Ronstadt, backing vocalists Patti Austin and Rosemary Butler, electric guitarist Danny Kortchmar, bassist Bob Glaub, drummer Russ Kunkel, and pianist-organist Bill Payne.
Thank you, Michael Glickman. I love looking for "the usual suspects" backing up Ms. Ronstadt.
Thanks Mike, I've been looking for the names of Linda's musicians& back-up singers on this album for a while ...
Rosemary Butler was the bomb!
The one, the only, the incomparable, Linda Ronstadt. A voice that could make the world fall in love with her, and it did...
Me too
Still in love with her from Stone Ponies days as a teenager.
@@kenberger4364 guys wanted her and girls wanted to be her.
@@kenberger4364 saw her perform with the Stone Ponies & for the Eagles back in 75 (maybe 74)
A rare beauty,I fell in love each and every time.Great comment.
Joe South's writing and Linda's singing? Perfection.
Linda is proof that the human voice is the best musical instrument of all !
The purest, best voice of her, or any, generation. Simply incomparable.
You nailed it! I couldn't agree more.
Big fan. But Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand, Pat Benatar, Donna Summer, etc. are incredible singers also. Impossible to compare.
When Linda Ronstadt covers a song; she #OWNS the song!

The last of the great natural vocalists. The straight on purity and power is so effortless. Perhaps that is why she took her voice elsewhere. Luv it.
Amen!
I LOVE THAT VOICE. Nobody can sing the way LOVELY LINDA sang.
This song should have millions of views. To all the teenagers of nowadays this is the sound of the golden music
No one else could go from belt it out to soft so effortlessly then back and forth. She could do whatever she wanted to do with that voice. Can't think of any other singer that versatile.
The clarity and warmth is so natural. Linda... you either get it or you don't. When you do it is something special.
Linda sang her ass off
I was lucky enough to see her live, even though she was nervous she was incredible.

It was a hit in the 60s for Billy Joe Royal who sang "Down in the Boondocks."

Linda's voice is so elegantly soaring and powerful--she could tear the roof--clean off a house!
The ending, when she effortlessly flies into that high register, slays me every time I listen to this. 😮👏😁

This is a vocally challenging song but Linda made it look easy!
Ain't it the truth, ain't it the truth
It's just what she does - and so well.

What guy didn't LOVE Linda!
The ideal female complement to Billy Joe Royal's original. Exceptional vocals. Linda had the pipes!
Written by the late great Joe South who should be in RnR hall of fame

Divine instrument and she used it so well. Plenty girl singers but no one as clear, powerful and feminine- very special songbird.
What a sensation she is at the top of her game here.
4 decades ago, Linda Ronstadt knew us when and then. Truly an iconic singer.
Favorite!! This is what I warm up to before I sing in my band!! I'm in a Linda Ronstadt tribute band!!! Shes the bomb!🎵🎤🎶
KellyAnn Dean That’s awesome!
Are you & your band on UA-cam? I would like to hear you.
When she alternates between her "head" voice and her "chest" voice seamlessly and then, during the outro, she jumps up to her soprano...scary good...
This song pulls the absolute best out of Linda.
Ronstadt can move her gorgeous voice in many ways. Powerful stuff. Don't over think it -
It should be illegal to look like her and have a voice like that. Once in a lifetime voice inside an insanely hot lady.
She made everything look easy!
Today is 7-15-18. Linda was born in 1946. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my lady. Thank you for many years of soul-satisfying music.
As great a singer she was before 1980, after she took vocal lessons for Pirates of Penzance, her voice just got even more poweful through the years.
The Billy Joe Royal Classic sang with incredible vocal ability by Linda.
I love her dearly
Thanks for love and support
One of the all-time greats.
First time I’ve heard this song since it came out in the early 80s. Had no idea her vocals were so strong in it!😮
the greatest voice ,she makes me cry .....what a beautiful and powerful voice!
A blink in time and 40 years after its release it still packs a punch. What a talent! Yea, yea, yea...
Beautiful song...love Linda Ronstadt

Fell in love with this album around 1983
Great album the best!!

My favorite track on this album. This song is a two way street with some tweaking. Timeless gem is what you are⚘🍷
