I think Justin is giving so much information that will actually let us learn the needed techniques. Unlike other videos that are hard and lacks detail in it. Some of them are just giving vague information that would not let us get the actual knowledge we are looking for. This is why I only come here. Thanks to New York Vocal Coaching for giving free to access lessons!

How I wish this had been my first lesson on breathing. I was confused for years with bad advice until a teacher of mine finally thought me this. Could've saved me so much time...

This was the hardest thing for me to grasp in singing. The lean. It's not leaning forcefully, it's support that makes you lean in. You will it when you do. Two mechanisms cause this. Diaphragm breathing, and focusing on the baring down muscles. I didn't understand the second one, baring down. It's like doing squats but you focus on the "area" as you sing. It really is magical.

Gah. I can't believe you just share this freely. Just about every other vocal coach that has a UA-cam presence only shares incomplete bits of what they're talking about - starting at 30% of the lesson and ending at 70% - not for the sake of teaching you, but to bait you into purchasing their singing classes. NYVC is an absolute gem. Invaluable for those of us who lack the financial and/or mental capacity for in-person voice lessons.

Oh my god I can hit high notes with so much ease now. I was cracking but I realized it was because I was taking to much air. Like I could power my way into higher notes but it's the opposite. Sips of air. Like singing through a straw. Otherwise the voice cracks to protect itself. Thank you guys. These videos have been life changing. I'm finally finding the joy in my voice. It's like falling in love. I could cry.

Maybe I'm being fanatical but learning and applying all of this is a literal high. Like I'm in my 30s, went through theater training but could never figure out the voice. There was just so much tension. These videos are such a gift. Justin is the greatest teacher in the world. I'm so grateful to him and everyone at New York Vocal Coaching!

Wow! I wish these videos were available when I first started voice lessons. It took me a while to sing with belly and rib expansion and eliminating collapse and tension. The concept of breath support was not explained to me this clearly. I was always told to use more support, and as you mentioned in this video, I thought this meant more air (and tension). I eventually learned proper breath support but it took a while to get there. This teaching series is great!

Your explanations made it so easy to understand the importance of proper breathing as I suffer from a lot of tension in my throat area when I sing. I've only been singing for one year with a singing school and I will definitely be using the Farinelli method and Appoggio to keep improving in technique. Thankyou so much. Great work. Great Justin. This is the first time I hear what I have been saying for a long time to my students, that support is precisely the resistance to the natural movement of the diaphragm. Did I understand correctly?
I love your tutorials, clear, precise and highly documented.
    My best wishes... from Barcelona

    • @aacha548
      @aacha548 5 років тому

Yeah I think that's what he said. but another way to say it is to slow down the release of air and to keep the torso as it is when inhaling - which does slow down the rising of the diaphragm apparently. And its the first time I've heard that too. So its great to finally get clarity on that point. Once - only once when doing some breathing exercises, I actually felt something very weird in my diaphragm. It was like my body took over the resistance and I didn't have to control it. It was pretty good. But I am not certain if that's what is supposed to happen. I would like clarity on that myself.

Your knowledge is out of this world. It took me thirty years of studying and experimenting with my voice in order to produce a relatively good sound and basically there are about a million things I don't know. Thank you for sharing your immense knowledge with us .

@@NewYorkVocalCoaching I'm so glad young singers have now the chance to learn from you. You help them bring their dreams to life. I live in Greece and I wish I could have when I was a student such knowledge at my disposal. Unfortunately when I was trying to learn there were so many contradicting views on the subject of singing that it was impossible for me to build a proper technique. Finally with your valuable assistance I can even now put all those different terms in proper perspective. Thank you so much . By the way all your presentations are fun and lively. A real pleasure to watch . Thank you , thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet! Five minutes of doing this, and the length of my vocal hissing was extended by about 30%. I hope I can learn to relax the throat more. I can immediately see that this technique is going to be a big help to me!

This is brilliant all the other videos really make it seem like: you need to use more support for certain situations.
If you rephrase that, to you need to hold back more air you get a clearly view of what you should do or not do, especially if your not using enough breath, so you think "use more support" after watching all these other videos and it doesnt help, because more support means less air like you said!!
That's great to know and not obvious at first thank-you. X

This is how my first singing teacher - a retired opera singer - taught me as a child; and how no other teacher taught me since. I thought I was unlearning bad habits all through music school :S

@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Definitely. And I've shared episodes with some of my own voice students when you say something more succinctly than I would... LOL I appreciate the time and professionalism, as well as the fun, you put into every episode. It's clear that many, many others do, too. Well done.
