One big factor you made me realize after watching this review. Lulu is my first performance chino and you are correct, it had a life changing effect. Now my designer jeans felt like bondage all day. I have since been looking for a competitor and think this review has offered many that I never heard of. I don't just work in the office, I think I'm in a specialized position. Where I may go from a sales call to wearing a tool belt and than hit the gym on the way home. Lulu has allowed me to get all those tasks done very comfortably. However, they can snag when you around tools and that's generally an expensive snag. Going to check out some of these other brands. Great review!
I think you may need some more lights in your studio, at least on my computer I can't pick out any details when you're wearing dark clothing, particularly pants.
The "care" segment was mind blowing! Garment care is something I worry/think about a lot. Maybe the number one reason I'm afraid to spring for the top shelf stuff is that I don't trust myself to take care of it
Great reviews and information. I appreciate that you included a listing of the brands, timestamps, and links. I'd like to see a review of anti-pickpocket pants and other items (backpacks, money-belts, etc).
Once again, this type of videos are the best! Quality content for everyone. Budget Chino ✓ Best fit ✓ Best for business ✓ Thanks for making this videos!
Bro same, I tried the banana republic athletic fit but they taper so much that it was hugging my calves and would never fall back down over my boots when I stood up
It has been shown that water-resistant/waterproof fabric will block moisture transfer in both directions, so it's worth testing any claims that the same material can resist water and wick water at the same time. It's clear that you like tight fits (many of the chinos are gaping at the waist and top of the fly, and all of them look like "leggings"), so it would be useful to see how the fabric behaves in a more comfortable size.
@@The_Kavalier i wear women's jeans because they fit so much better. if you are not the average skinny ass guy, but have legs and glutes and god forbid calves, only women's jeans fit well. women's chinos don't fit the same though. where could i find some decent chinos that fit big legs and glutes and a small waist?
Sticker shock definitely held me back from these. I do like that these are more durable and stretchy. I find myself gravitating towards more comfortable clothes, shoes etc. Thanks for making the vid and buying all those chinos for us 😊!
I think Prana seriously deserves a look. It seems like they're not worn much outside the high-fitness crowd, but for active people the brand is extremely reliable, comfortable, stretchy, quick drying, and breathable. I know a lot of men who only wear Prana pants because they are just so consistent in quality and they are perfect for so many activities.
I can't get past the way all of these pants bunch up at the knees making them look very sloppy to me. Is that due to the thinness fabric or the tightness of the pants? Or both? I enjoy your videos. They are always very well done.
Best Performance Jeans, John! Waited and waited, but still no one has put a full, comprehensive video together. Surely there are better alternatives than cotton... and they're probably the most common and popular pants of our generation. We probably all need to make the switch - hope you can make another video as good as this one about that.
@@PAKgymnastics Good one Ryan. If I could only go for one, I reckon these would be them. Seem to have top spot for most of the reviewers out there. Still curious how they compare to other offerings like Black Diamond Forged Denim, Duer No Sweat Pant, Ministry of Supply Slim Kinetic Pant, Swrve cordura jeans. And there are about 20-30 other offerings of note on the market right now. Also interested in the technology going into them and where the market is going.
@@RF-js9yj I've been somewhat on a mission to find the best bests, I haven't tried the Du/Er no sweat pant but from the reviews I've seen online they don't hold up very well long term. I haven't tried the Kinectic pants from Ministry of Supply but their Momentum Chino (the most casual pants they have) are still probably the dressiest chino's on this list but they are absolutely fantastic and work wonders in the office. Besides for Outlier I think the next closest company is Ministry of Supply when it comes to quality high end tech fabric. But in the end Outlier really is in a class of their own. The 60/30 Chino is the greatest pant ever created and the Slim Dungaress are also up there. Need unlimited stretch but still feel and look like a cotton chino that is more for casual wear on a friday? 60/30. Need the ultimate rugged jean that can handle just about anything thrown its way while still looking very stylish? Slim Dungarees. They don't make 60/30's anymore unfortunately but they are supposedly coming back soon. I recently tried Taylrd's Tech Chino and was really surprised with how well they fit and the amount of stretch they have. Not as stretchy as 60/30 and I doubt they come close to the durability and tech properties as outlier but for only $89 I think they are arguably the best bargain for a good pair of Chino's.
Ryan Kerr Sounds awesome, I will look into those more. Crazy that even though they use Swedish fabric and have them made in Portugal that anyone in the EU most pay almost double the price, which includes me. Hopefully that will change some time in the future. I believe their trousers and merino shirts are probably the best in class. Having said that, also looking forward to trying Mission Workshop out too.

Great video, Jon. Perhaps one day I’ll treat myself to performance chinos in the $100-200 range. For now, I’m living in Bonobos/Banana Republic/J.Crew land
I wear very little clothing. I own about 2 pairs of pants, 4 shirts, 2 tees, and 7 pairs of underwear and socks. I’m concerned with longevity. Which pant do you think would last the longest?

Helpful video! I"d love to see a roundup of tech/[performance/travel suits and jackets. I wonder if we're getting to that point with suits similar to where you stand with chinos - if you can get good design and fit in a performance version, even if it's a little more money, why not go for that over traditional fabrics? Much respect to the craft of traditional fabric makers, but I don't necessarily need a lot of what they offer, like luxurious softness, or ultra light weights, elegant patterns. A few 3-season suits in classics solid colors, a few options for the heat, all easy care that you can travel with and wash yourself and hang dry.
Awesome! Really appreciate these kind of reviews / round ups. I was considering the ABC from Lulu while at the mall but I think I will try one of those top three pics. I’m 5’7”, so you recommend one for shorter inseam? I think mine is about 28” Keep up the good work!!!
I’ve watched this a few times now, and I have found it increasingly helpful. I have a pair of Banana Republic performance chinos and agree with your summary of them. Hey folks. I picked up a few of these but also grabbed the Lululemon slim commission pants as I tried them on at the store and found that I really loved the fit and feel. After getting home, I’m reading all the complaints on their site about how the pants have stretched out. Does anyone have these and can verify that they’ve held up well over time?
@@The_Kavalier So I got my Outlier future works. Unfortunately, I need to return them due to long inseam sizes. I just don't want to paid extra for tailor to shorten it. otherwise, I like the material very very much. I guess I will get Bonobos Tech Chinos instead. But thank you so much for your video.
Where would BR’s Traveler Pant fit in here? Not a traditional chino cut, but you included other five pocket pants in the round up. They’re incredibly comfortable while still looking professional. They certainly don’t look techy like a lot of other performance pants.
Some of your top picks are hard to get in canada i like to try my pants on before i buy them its hard to buy online for me cut size and feel true old navy performance on sale only buy for me 35$ in canada.
What’s ur size in Duer. I usually wear like 34-32 and I always hated them. For the leg opening to wideout they seem more tight on you. I did get the slim as they don’t sell skinny for men.
Actually like the ABC pant, as they have a generous rise, and the low rise on many chinos just turns me off. Anybody got recommendations for nicely tapered pants that actually have a 12+ inch rise, so they can fit on the waist easily, rather than super low on the hips?
Great video. Were all of them considered slim or skinny? None of your pants have a break. Is this the rule for the best look to be just above the shoe and showing a bit of ankle. I need to up my game and get more stylish if so. Do the performance pants automatically huge the body? Your great to watch.
Just my opinion, but anytime that you can see the outline of an empty pocket, then the pants are just TOO damn tight! Your EDC has to be entirely in a man-purse!
