- The no dig method ... A couple of new things to try at both our allotments in this video. Hopefully they'll work out. Have you tried growing them?
An update with all the latest allotment news of my allotment life. There's Oca Planting via the no dig method and also sweet potato slips and how to separate them from the sweet potato. How to collect Perennial Cornflower seeds to save for sowing is also included.
First let's have a look around the Feel Good Garden allotments at some of the flowers
before moving on to separating the sweet potato slips.
Next we have an update on our allotments including how the sunflowers🌻 are coming along. Also show you Cheryl's sunflowers and our lovely view of her and Dale's plot. The transformation on Jonny and Emma's plot is amazing. A short walk back to the Feel Good Garden and a quick view of Cheryl's plot.
I can't wait for the Oca to grow as I'm loving the taste already!
I have an easy way to collect perennial cornflower seeds and show you the method I use.
I'm so excited to be planting up sweet potato slips using the no dig method and manure compost to grow our very first crop of sweet potatoes 😀
Thank you for watching, liking my video and subscribing. I really do appreciate it.
Love from Linda ❤

Lovely update linda. Thanks for the mention. Glad to see the oca going in. You should have just gone and borrowed my rake etc. I wouldn't have minded. Danny 🌱
Thanks Danny ❤️
That's kind of you but we have ours back now 👍 Have a great week and see you soon for a cuppa or two ☕☕☕☕ 😂
Those sweet potato slips are amazing. Well done.
The polytunnel looks amazing! So neat and tidy in its summer set up.
I love how the Oca leaves close up at dusk.
Great to see you collecting seeds too
Awww Thanks Clare
I almost gave up on them as they were taking ages to grow. I'm so chuffed with 11 slips and more in the making 👍😄
I must arrive earlier at the allotment as the Oca is closed up when I arrive 🤔🤭😂
Have a great week ❤️ xx
@@Feelgoodgardens it’s such a pretty plant. The foliage is very flower like, I agree.
I’m very impressed with the slips!
Lovely update Linda. Your plot looks beautiful both of them. I love how your polytunnel is looking fantastic. You both work so hard. Jonny and Emma's plots are fab too. Always welcome on my plot Linda. ❤❤
Awww thanks Cheryl, you are most kind ❤️
I'm always admiring your plot too, it looks so pretty. Looking forward to sharing it with my viewers, I think it'll inspire some of them 👍😍
See you soon xx
Hi Linda, your flowers are looking lovely. The sweet potato plants habe healthy roots on them. More planting done too. The weather has been so strange. Very hot and now quit cold. Poor plants, dont know what's going on 🙄 aww, the hedgehog is lovely 🦔 lovely video update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Hi Christine 👋
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments 😊❤️
Yes strange weather for June and July isn't it. Can't make it's mind up if it's summer or winter 😂
I was so chuffed when I saw the trail cam footage of our little Trevor 😍
Looking excellent. Your flowers are so stunning.
My Sunflowers are coming along, I'm waiting for that stem to thicken and I might be able to uncage them. I'd say about 3' tall.
Trevor is such a cutie.
Hi Robin 👋
Thank you so much ❤️
Your sunflowers are doing really well
Sounds like they might look like Cheryl's. I'm amazed how hers have taken off too. Well done 👏🌻🌻🌻
Have a great week ❤️
Love the dress Linda 🌻🌻. I tried sweet potato 🍠 once but I had loads of leaves and no potatoes 😂. Your penstemen are gorgeous. It’s all coming along very nicely, have a fab week, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
Thanks Ali ❤️
I thought the dress was apt for the grow along 🌻😊 My navy one similar I bought last year.
There's a shame about your sweet potatoes. I hope I have more luck with mine. It's exciting trying something new isn't it.
I'm really pleased with those penstemon. I grew one penstemon next to the polytunnel last year and liked it. The ones near the pond have bushed out lovely and must be really happy there.
You have a great week too, thank you 🤗 🌻🌻🌻
hoi Linda, great video, great growing. All the flowers you showed in the clump by the pond, are Penstemons. Just different varieties, like you get different varieties in dahlias, Gladioli and many plants. My Sunflowers are about 4ft tall but they won't grow really tall or have big heads as they grow to about 5ft tall and are multi headed. But I love them. I grow them for my late daughter as Sunflowers weer her favourite flowers. So sunny just like her. Happy gardening 🙂 x
Thanks Be ❤️
Those Penstemon are so pretty they were ages bushing out with lots of green on them but now have come into their own. I'll try propagating them when they finish flowering.
Your sunflowers sound really lovely, I have about 3 varieties I think but only a few of each as the slugs in the polytunnel had a feast on them. I was going to sow more but didn't get around to it.
Have a great week Be 🌻🌻🌻
looking fab
@@__Shellspace__ Thanks Shell 😊❤️
Love your dress Linda, very summery ☀️ Your plot is so pretty I would be sooo happy if mine looks half as good as yours one day 💚
Awww thanks Lisa. ❤️ Your plot looks fab too. Just add some flowers here and there to attract the pollinators, it makes a World of difference. Cheryl's plot is a great example of that too. It looks so nice. She's said I can include it in a video so watch this space. 👍😊🌻🌻🌻
Thank you for sharing another interesting video. I like seeing Trevor the hedgehog and all the pretty flowers 🌼 🌸 in your allotment. 🩷🌱🌿😊
Awww thanks Sheryl
Looking forward to you helping with the watering soon to keep it looking nice 👍😁🌻🌻🌻 xx
Here in North Carolina (USA) we just plant them straight in the ground. They do really well that way. If you haven't planted sweet potatoes in the past, you'll have to remember they will need to cure before eating. This will give you the best results for a sweet potato full of flavor. I've enjoyed watching your videos.
Awww thank you so much that's great information. I'll have to try that way too. I'm really excited that they've grown slips maybe I can plant the rest straight in the ground. Thank you ❤
I think you should put a big hole in the front garden to catch a postman in so he stops giving us all these bills😂
William, not the suggestion/idea I was looking for 😂
❤@@Feelgoodgardens
It's all looking great Linda 👍 , well done with the sweet potatoes fingers crossed 🤞 for a good harvest I tried them once but they never came to much plenty of sweet potatoes but skinny long things looked like worms 😂 your making me want to give them another go now maybe next year ,
A rockery would like nice in your front garden some nice alpines be easy to maintain as well don't know if you watch " Beachgrove garden" they did a nice one looks lovely 🤔
Thanks Elizabeth ❤️
It's exciting isn't it, hopefully I'll have a harvest from the sweet potatoes 🤞I hope you have better luck with yours next year 😊
We used to have a rockery there about 15 or so years ago. We decided to have a change and turf it instead as it had overgrown mainly conifers in it.
We had thought of putting it in tiers as it's on a slope. We're still undecided though. Thanks for your suggestion. I did mention it to Doug but he's not keen to do another one. Still food for thought though 👍😊 Have a great week 🌻🌹🌻
@@Feelgoodgardens tiers would be lovely did notice the slope 👍
@@elizabethjames1053 I'll give an update when we decide, still deciding at the moment, no action taking place 😂
Hi Linda, l live near Brisbane Australia, and if l planted all those slips in one spot, l wouldn't be able to find my veg patch, the house, the fence. They grow like the triffids, l live in the subtrops.!! ❤❤❤
Hi Kaye 👋
Wow you must have huge vedge. I'm hoping for a nice summer for my sweet potatoes to do well. Are you doing the sunflower 🌻 challenge / grow along? It's for the tallest sunflower and also the biggest sunflower head. You can still join in if you have sunflowers growing.
Have a great week 🌻 ❤️
I can't post a photo on these comments, but I have just measured my sunflowers and the tallest is four foot tall. Although there is now a head showing, so I am not sure that it will grow a lot taller... we will have to wait and see. All the best. Haydn
Hi Haydn 👋
That's great sizes for your sunflowers 🌻🌻🌻🌻😄 👍👏👏. I have a Feel Good Garden Facebook page and you could post your photo on there I think 🤔
After planting 30 (5 different varieties) sunflowers I have 2 very sad looking plants. I don;t think I will have anything worthy of the competition this year, sorry.
Never mind Andy, it's the taking part that counts. You might be able to rescue the ones you have just to look nice in your garden 🌻🌻
@@Feelgoodgardens hopefully, Linda but the weather here in Manchester has been so dire this year that things just haven't had a chance. Poor germination and root growth have taken their toll and low light levels have made for leggy plants. Things are getting better now but everything seems to be two months behind, ah well maybe we are heading for Southern hemispere type climates and have nice gardens for Christmas lol
