Gardening At The Allotment In August (Planting Out And Saving Seeds)
In this video there's planting out, saving seeds, making the allotment look nice, gardening plans and a few surprises along the way.
More Brussel Sprouts planted on allotment 2 along with Dwarf French Beans. On the Feel Good Garden allotment plot 1, I plant more brassicas, including cabbages and mystery brassicas with their labels missing.
I've collected a few bags af bark/wood chip to freshen up the pathways on both allotments.
Sunflowers are coming into their own around the allotments.
Statice flowers are doing really well and I pick more to dry at home.
The Calendula flowers need dead heading and tidying up so I cut off the seed heads and save them in a bucket for now. This will allow any seedlings to grow underneath the plants.
The flower bed will be moved to allow the pollinators to pollinate the rest of the allotment.
I bought some log rolls for Doug to make a raised herb bed. Luckily they are the same height as the raised strawberry 🍓 bed.
The rain water tank is going to be moved soon to make room for a new herb bed planter. Some of the mint and strawberries will need to be dug up too.
The Crimson Flowered Broad Beans although look pretty are starting to have rust on the bottom leaves so I cut them off.
The two varieties of sweetcorn are starting to grow cobs. There's the normal variety and a Multicolour one.
I prune the Lemon Balm plant and Chard to give more room for the sage plant and tidy up the space. I also weed what will be the old herb bed.
Another allotment plot holder Colin along with his business partner Mark has made some wooden Feel Good Garden signs for our allotment garden.
I show you the various varieties of tomatoes we are growing both inside the polytunnel and outside on the allotments. There's also cucumbers growing in the polytunnel.
Time for a tidy up and I save seeds from the old carrots. I pop the pruning on the compost heap. I manage to find a few small carrots before finishing off wood chipping the pathways.
I cut and prune the sage as Doug wants to make stuffing.
My sunflower 🌻 challenge is for the tallest sunflower and biggest sunflower head. Please send your photos to Linda@feelgoodgarden.co.uk
Thank you for watching, liking my video and subscribing. I really do appreciate it.

Wish I could be of more help on the rust, but I never conquer it. I always battled it on hollyhocks and just gave up growing them. Limited success controlling with neem. I think I'd do a bit of research as I don't think you can eat beans infected by rust, which is a bummer. I did a little sunflower update on this week's video. I've got one that might be in the running🌻❤ My calendula are looking very tatty at the moment. I need to do a trim them too. My Atomic Fusion are still not ripe and I seem to be well ahead of you. They are beautiful and if they taste like Brad's Atomic Grape I will be so happy.🥰 Try the carrots a little different cycle like planting your seed late July for a fall harvest. They often bolt going from super chilly to hot. Also try an F1 like Bolero, as the heirlooms are more prone to bolting in my garden anyway. Fabulous update and the gardens are looking amazing. You have a way with flowers.

@@christinebrooks6364 Thank you Christine ❤ Phew that was close wasn't it. It looked as if it might have been blight and last year was an absolutely disaster with our tomatoes. We went on holiday and when we came back the whole of the tomatoes in the polytunnel were destroyed with blight. Before we went away they looked so healthy. Mind you last year we kept the polytunnel door closed only opening it when we were about. This year we are keeping front and back doors open. I was so happy to read all the wonderful messages saying that it wasn't blight. Hi Joyce 👋 and thank you ❤️ I actually bought tomatoes 🍅 on Friday as we weren't picking enough ripe ones😊😂 For stuffing Doug says about 4 sprigs of sage, chopped up to make about a heaped tablespoon. Add to this one medium onion finely chopped, 4 slices of white bread grated, a knob of softened butter, one egg yolk, half to one teaspoon of salt. Mix together, (Doug uses his hands for this) This should be enough for 4 balls if you're doing it separately or more than enough to stuff a chicken. I love your flower garden, Linda- beautiful sunflowers and the statice is so pretty. I have 4 beds dedicated to flowers on my plot. They really cheer the place up, don't they! I dead-headed my calendula today- I am hoping for some more blooms- fingers crossed. A herb bed sounds fabulous. I am trying to build a herb bed in my garden. I am going to make a small bed with pots for some different types of mint. Love the idea of orange mint and pineapple mint. I have chocolate mint which smells divine. I also have lemon balm, lemon verbena, french tarragon, thyme , chives and sage. Also have some garlic chive seedlings I grew. I think they say not to grow different varieties of corn together to avoid cross pollination and the kernels not growing properly, but I'm not sure if that's so as different opinions from various people. I guess the only way to find out is to grow it and see. After all we could all be growing a different variety to our plot neighbours so cross pollination is hard to void I would think. Thank you for sharing your lovely plot. You work so hard. Happy gardening 🙂 P.S. make sure you keep your carrots moist so they grow consistently

Hi Haydn 👋 I'm pleased you found collecting calendula seeds useful. That goes with collecting most seeds. It's best to collect them on a dry sunny day when they are dry, most turn brown too but not all eg. the perennial cornflowers as it's best to collect them before the pods open after they've flowered and the petals turn brown. I'll show more collecting of seeds in my videos. Have a great week ❤️
