So Lucky In Many Ways On Our Allotment Site - Here I Show You Why

  • Starting in the Feel Good Garden polytunnel, it's time for a tidy up to make room and prepare the bed for the tomatoes. Although I have grown a few from seed, only one tomato plant survived from my first sowing and my second sowing are rather small. Luckily I have kind and generous allotment plot neighbours who came to the rescue including Danny@thegrowup channel.
    I did a soil test using Universal PH Indicator
    Papers to determine if we needed to add lime or not.
    I show you 2 useful watering gadgets to reach under the shelves in the polytunnel. I tidy up before digging the soil and digging in some manure compost.
    I plant out some Helenor swede plants to plant amongst the beetroot plants already planted. Doug is busy making a framework for the runner French Beans.
    Next I plant out Cabbages on the Feel Good Garden plot 2. They are Greyhound Cabbage and Red Cabbage.
    Back in allotment plot 1 I use a dibber to plant more lettuce plants. To help combat slugs I use Karlston Organic Slug pellets and Spray. The slug pellets are just oregano and both are kind to plants and wildlife.
    I thought the Chard and Beetroot that I left run to flower would look pretty but they didn't so I cut them back to tidy them up.
    We've been having problems with rats on the allotment. They are living underneath the leaf mould pile and compost heap. I try to move them on with some Karlston Rat Off peppermint oil granules. Apparently rats don't like peppermint oil so they usually move on and away from it. Fingers crossed it'll work and they move on.
    The forget me not plants have mainly gone to seed so I pull them all out to tidy up the patio and pond area.
    Back on Feel Good Garden plot 2 and I plant up an old wheelbarrow kindly given to me by Danny @thegrowupchannel with some pretty flowers. Most of them were bought at the garden centre in Brecon.
    Jonny and Emma kindly gave us a rhubarb plant from their new allotment plot. I plant it next to our own rhubarb plants on plot 2.
    We are so lucky with our water taps they are right next to our allotment plots.
    Thank you for watching, liking my video and subscribing. I really do appreciate it.
    Love from Linda ❤

    The wheelbarrow planter is just stunning. What a great idea.
    How lovely to have so many things shared by plot neighbours. Yours should catch up now, as it’s warmer overnight now
    Plots are looking great. I think your bindweed plot will always be known as that, even though you’ve done a fab job at controlling it.
    Love the apron too. ❤

      Awww thank you Clare. ❤️ We have a wheelbarrow on each plot now with flowers. That was so kind of Danny to give us that one.
      I've learnt my lesson about growing the tomatoes from seed so hopefully they'll be grown with better care next year 🤭
      Enjoy the rest of the
      Lots of lovely goodies from our plot neighbours, they're such fabulous people. Nearly everything I planted in this video was from our allotment friends 😂 I pay them back with coffee etc. at the Feel Good Garden Café. Mind you I do give them the odd plant too 😂 Enjoy the rest of your weekend ❤️

      Thanks Christine ❤️ Danny is fab isn't he we share plants and seeds with each other on our allotments as usually we have a little surplus to share. We have a separate WhatsApp swop shop group that Danny set up. We don't swap though, just give away or ask if anyone has any surplus of anything. You can blame Danny for me setting up my channel as he persuaded me to do it 😂 I love his channel too 😍 👍😀

      Yes we have a lovely friendly site don't we and great to swap and share plants.
      I think you might have been doing something for Jonny with the water tap but not sure 🤔 All I know was that it was restricting my water flow 😂

    Feels good to see you again 🤭🤭 see how I did that 😉. Hope the tomatoes do well, mine are picking up now we have some sunny hot days. If you have a lot of green it could also be too damp with low airflow my brassica did that, that why I’m changing it up. Great getting things in the ground, have a fab weekend I hope it’s sunny, Ali 32c 🥵🥵🌞🇨🇦

      I think I kept filming but not editing and it was piling up and just didn't have time to do it. Anyway hope all is good with you. Sounds like it's gone from one extreme to the other with you. Geez you had snow only a short while ago didn't you.
      Hope you're enjoying the sunshine now 🌞😎 and taking it easy. You have a great weekend too 👍😀 ❤️ x

    Hi Linda looking good. I was told never to mix in bark chippings into the soil as it needs nitrogen to break down so will deplete your nitrogen in the bed . You can top off a bed with bark as it will only take an inch or so getting its nitrogen. Hope this helps

    • @Feelgoodgardens
      @Feelgoodgardens  Місяць тому

      Thanks Gaynor 👍❤️
      We do try and mix in well rotted bark/wood chippings as we are aware of that but thanks for the reminder. I do think sometimes we use it a bit more than we should though 🤭

    The problem is what was the PH of the water it could be alkaline

    • @Feelgoodgardens
      @Feelgoodgardens  Місяць тому

      You know David, I hadn't thought to check that. I just assumed it was neutral 🤭 Tomatoes are all planted up now so fingers crossed they are happy with the soil!
